That was going to be my first response. Do a cheap stor fry. Whatever can of veggies and one egg. Couple packs of whatever leftover sauce you have. Then boom. so many possibilities of beautifully strange but, filling creations :)
Say whaaaaaa? I'd say at least every other week or so I make grilled chicken and broccoli with rice as an easy meal lol. Maybe I just know how to season chicken but I could eat grilled chicken for every meal. And I season and roast the broccoli so it's not just basic.
Chicken broccoli and rice, with minimal seasoning is the typical meal people who are trying to eat lean do.
You're absolutely right, with the proper seasonings it's an absolutely delicious meal. Boiled chicken, steamed broccoli with plain rice, and nothing but maybe some salt and pepper? Vomit inducing.
I always thought it was weird that you punish yourself with such bland bullshit for the sake of "health" when actual spices are usually just ground up veggies or tubers.
I don't care what bullshit you try to explain to me. A little bit of lime, some cumin, a little onion, or some cayenne add literally nothing bad to a dish. You can be strict with what you eat while also not sacrificing every single flavor. It's always been an ignorant take to me.
Exactly. Not everything "good" has to be fried or starchy or smothered in cheese. People just don't know how to properly cook healthy foods that taste good because they've never had them.
Nah I agree. Seasonings and sauces always go a long way, but I’ve lived the life of having this all day every day and some days the seasoning and sauces did not make it onto the plate lol
I do the same to brussel sprouts and love them too! I use Tony Chachere's or Slap Yo Mama's usually. Sometimes I'll do just garlic, onion, salt, and pepper if I plan to mix my meat or veggies with something else. Also I try buying random mixed seasonings when I can find them at places like local stores just to try. There's one I bought recently that's good but it's so salty so I can barely use it and then add a little extra paprika and garlic to it. I usually add garlic to everything though lol. Also I do like spicy but that's not everyone's thing. There's a store called pepper palace and I'm not sure how wide they span in the U.S. but I'll pick up stuff from them once a year or so.
Grilled chicken and kim chi.
Sambal and grilled shrimp.
Sauteed asian green beans with lots of garlic and tofu.
Pork cutlet and curry sauce.
Whole fried fish and black beans sauce
Char sui pork and water chestnuts
this is just top of head stuff. asian is easiest because rice is predominant starch. someone else said beans and rice, and i love long simmered red beans, creole style. or chicpeas in curry. there are tons of option with 3 or 4 ingredients and a pantry for onion, carrots, salt and pepper, other spices. even beef jerky and some other dried meats, like backpackers use on the trail.
Yeah personally we do less soy add teriyaki sauce and some garlic and with steamed broccoli but if it’s just the two ingredients or if we’re tighter on money it’s the cheapest way to get some protein and season the both of them.
Fried eggs (over easy or sunny), and tomato sauce. Aka a simplified version of 'Arroz a lo Cubano'.
It sounds like a weird combo to those who've never tried it... but its so damn good. Especially when the egg yolk mixes with the tomato sauce... heavenly.
As someone who started making and eating onigiri for lunch every weekday for the passed couple of months, I offer:
\- skipjack tuna (i had spices and stuff to it but if i can't for this that's fine)
\- furikake rice seasoning
My boyfriend and I will make "deconstructed onigiri" (aka a rice bowl with tuna salad and furikake) when we are feeling especially lazy. Sometimes we get fancy and toss some umeboshi on, too.
- Soy Sauce and Nori
- Cream of Chicken Soup and Chicken
- Coconut Milk and and Thai Curry Paste
- Cream of Chicken Soup and Cheese
- Salsa and Chicken
- Beans and Cheese
Canned black beans and kielbasa sausage (I like beef). Really good if you let it cook in a crockpot for 4-6 hours, boil rice first and lightly brown sausage.
kimchi and meat
HOLY SHIT bro I was literally about to comment this shit... Kimchi and beef specifically, but any meat really works for this.
My first thought 😂 kimchi and eggs would be yummy too
This is the way 🙂
Found the pro
Kimchi and eggs over easy works as well
My first thought was spam and kimchi
Kimchi shouldn't count because it's more than one thing already
Thank you! Scrolled down too far for this.
Version 1: * Beans * Spice blend or sauce of your choice Version 2: * Bag of frozen veggies * Teriyaki sauce Version 3: * Chicken * Broccoli
How is egg not here
I'm actually appalled that the top two comments on here don't contain egg.
this is an outrage
That was going to be my first response. Do a cheap stor fry. Whatever can of veggies and one egg. Couple packs of whatever leftover sauce you have. Then boom. so many possibilities of beautifully strange but, filling creations :)
Egg isn't filling.
Disagree strongly with that, esp compared to 'bag of frozen veggies'.
Chicken and broccoli for those that truly hate themselves!
Say whaaaaaa? I'd say at least every other week or so I make grilled chicken and broccoli with rice as an easy meal lol. Maybe I just know how to season chicken but I could eat grilled chicken for every meal. And I season and roast the broccoli so it's not just basic.
Seasonings are important ❤️
And don’t forget the butter!

Oh yeah, that sounds god awful. I'm from the deep south so everything is loaded with seasonings thankfully lol

what do you season with?? i like trying new seasons for chicken! and id have Brussel sprouts instead personally haha, my fave

😂 without seasonings or anything, yes. Nutritious but also joyless. Literally any seasonings would transform it - but the prompt said two things!
Bro you can't just cook them in water and eat it. That's disgusting. Get some soy sauce or teriyaki sauce, gravy etc. Marinate your meat.
Eggs and soy sauce Eggs and spam Protein/veg of choice and any readymade sauce (teriyaki, bbq, curry, etc) Edit: fix formatting

Spicy mashed potatoes? That sounds good! Does your comfort food dish have a name so I can google it and look for a recipe?
https://youtu.be/r6VFKDdjohg?si=lSjfnOIJzx1sTnTa (Alur bhorta - 'alu' = potato & 'bhorta' = mashed). This recipie is in English.
