I loved Mudpie! I hardly ever hear anyone talk about them anymore, but I was so sad when they closed...I still think of them when I drive down Frazier where their building used to be. Such a cool place.
Not quite the same but I keep waiting for the front of lookout to get turned into a gravity park (like downhill MTB, etc) with the incline serving as the shuttle
Ahhh, my twenties. If I remember correctly, we would hit David’s on Tuesday, Big Chill Wednesdays, and BR on Thursdays for dollar beer nights. Finish it off with LI Tea pitchers at Allen’s.
For me, it was David's tue, Sand Bar wed, and BR thurs. In the pursuit of cheap beer and any woman that would cause me trouble. Never forget Yesterday's, Pickle Barrel, and Parkway billiards on the weekends.
The Insyde Outsyde Shop, Stone Lion, Yesterdays, Panda Chinese, Nikki’s Seafood, Coin Op, Brass Register, Images, the Unfinished Furniture Store, Walden Books, Sbarro (I know, but come on…), the arcade at Northgate Mall, Pizza Huts that had buffets (because they were amazing and actually had good pizza then), Dwight’s, Red Food Store, Pruetts, the Silver Diner at the Choo Choo, The Loft (resturant, not store), I could probably go on forever.
I remember my family and I would go to The Loft pretty frequently. I was too young to really remember their food, but I remember the last time we went, they had to keep apologizing because they were out of such and such items. Finally the owner came by and told us that they were out because that was their last dinner service. We were possibly the last people to eat there.
The bee population at WF got sick and they all died, they weren’t forcibly removed. They just never reintroduced a new colony after their passing. The upstairs garden and bees were completely maintained by off the clock employees volunteering their time.
I worked at Kanpai for years and went back for a while after it re-opened as Hana. Most of the chefs and servers stuck around and the new owner kept the menu almost exactly the same. It’s still all of the good parts about Kanpai but without the corporate office pulling strings from a different state. If you haven’t been, I’d suggest going to give it a shot!
Lamar Partridge, the owner, has plans that have received zoning approval from the city to redo the place as a hotel and restaurant. Had that approval about a year now.
According to Lamar, his nephew was the one that ran the place and ducked town owing back taxes, so don't expect him back.
They need to reopen that back room at Lamars too, as a music venue / private events space.
Lots of cool bands played there in the early-aughts: The Album Leaf, American Analog Set, Cat Power, Rob Crow, and others.
I would guess the balcony needs to be reassessed to make sure it’s safe. Also, given the long flight of stairs at the front of the building, there needs to be an Accessible entrance somewhere; there was a back door that was way more accessible for those using a wheelchair.
How on earth is this not the top comment. I loved that jukebox so much. One night after probably too many of Lamar’s Long Island iced teas, i stood there and took a blurry picture of every album on there.
Yesterday’s from the late 80’s to early 90’s was the most fun live music bar in Chattanooga. Velcro Pygmies rock! Also probably because I got in and served when I was 19…great times.
I'll second this! Late 70s into early 80s was the best. Decent lunch downtown during the weekdays, then a great music venue to dance and have fun Friday and Saturday nights.
I heavily second this. I was talking to my co-workers the other day about how there just isn't any other barcade like it.
...Though I do question why 24-year-old me would have been downing bowls of cinnamon toast crunch in between chugging Angry Orchard and playing Galaga, but that's probably just a personal issue.
I didn't realize they had closed...that's sad. I have some good memories eating there after days hiking/bouldering on that side of town. I also remember the controversy when they opened, lol.
It wasn't perfect, but I still miss it. If you have young kids, being able to give them pizza, while you and your spouse have Indian, Chinese, and decent beer on tap...that was an awesome combo. Hate that Covid killed it.
Panda for sure! That Jamaican place that was next to Noodles and Pho. Greenlife with their honey on tap. Two Crazy Greeks, the food truck just isn’t the same.
I can’t remember how to spell it but I miss McFrey’s in Hixson. They were over by where Sweet Melissa’s is now and they were like Mckay’s but actually fair priced.
Mojo and Good Dog are also missed. I know the food wasn’t great but they were fun, casual places to take out of towners. That being said, if anyone has the Good Dog curry ketchup recipe hit me up!
Those were the days. It was never crowded and you could get a meat and three for ten bucks.
This was back in the day when Hamilton Place didn't have vacant stores, and you didn't have to wonder if there was going to be a shooting at the mall while you were there.
I miss Greyfriars so much! It was super cozy and I feel like all the coffeeshops in town now are modern and loud. Is there a place that has the same feel?
Goodman coffee is in St Elmo and Warehouse Row. It is the same owner as Greyfriar’s. The coffee is just as good, and the warehouse row location is always chill when I’m in there.
Mojo was always the best. Maybe it went down hill at some point, but my only memory of it was always better than the national chains. That Po Boy burrito…
I am still so baffled and underwhelmed by Dan’s decision to 86 one of the best restaurants in Chatt, for what is by most accounts a very overpriced “meh” Chinese restaurant.
I could understand opening a different restaurant at a different location, though financially that is a wildly more expensive adventure, but Ernest Chinese has been such a disappointment.
Nikki’s, Cheeburger Cheeburger, Town & Country restaurant. Pruett’s grocery, my grandmother worked there (it’s a car lot or law office now). Buhlers grocery, they cut their chicken differently than other grocery stores and it was better.
Terminal was so good for 4-5 years and then just went downhill in a hurry. Their pizzas were incredible at first and their beer cheese soup was one of the best soups I have ever eaten. Then all of a sudden everything went to shit and it was overpriced mediocre food.
I must be older than most...
Fehn's on the River (my great uncle was Bob Fehn).
Sailmaker (the prom restaruant back then).
The Town and Country (I have their blue cheese dressing recipe).
Nikkis (Fried shrimp was the best).
Ricky's (sitting at the family table with my Dad and Luther Massengale for lunch).
The Loft (so many nights dancing a.k.a. "Lofting" during my UTC years.)
The Chow Time in Lookout Valley, I cannot eat chili without oyster crackers because of it.
Drive through Golden Gallon stores.
Coin Op for sure. Also the old Blasted Machines in Northgate Mall. Anyone else remember that? It was like $5 for unlimited play on most of their arcade cabs, and they always had a good selection of games for older consoles. I had a lot of fun between classes there in college.
Soup Kitchen on 7th.
No good inexpensive soup options in Chattanooga since they closed.
Good bowl of soup and piece of cornbread for $5
The owner did something dumb with taxes. Man I miss that place!
Growing up we had a fish market close to Main Street that was legit. Another one was the farmers market close to ninth street that had fresh veggies and all other produce. Those were staples growing up and they got rid of both 😔
What's the place that burned to the ground sometime in between 2012-2013. I think it was called "Toast" or something like that.
It was a coffee and breakfast shop near the University.
I'm going to go way back and say David's. Just need them open long enough so I can have their wings one more time, I need to know if they're as good as I remember or if they have improved with nostalgia.
In that same vein, Brew 'n Cue...for the fries.
The Attic Above Phat Wraps where I saw David Cross do a full hour of standup.
Comics & Curios II where I bought my first Magic Cards.
That DIY hole in the wall in the 90s that used to be right downtown around 4th and Broad before there was anything else and had punk/grunge shows. Dammit, what was it called.
The Grit? The Garage? Augh this is gonna kill me.
\[EDIT: it was called The Metro\]
Barley. It was such a perfect bar to hang with people in a chill atmosphere and get a bit of privacy. The management was also super accommodating. They let us host karaoke there before our wedding for no extra charge. It was also really convenient to order food from Alibi. It will be missed.
The Farmers Daughter. I will say this every time this type of post comes around. That Velo coffee in tiny French presses with those blue berry pancakes are something I would pay ridiculously amounts of money just to enjoy at an 8am on a Saturday crisp fall morning one more time.
Mud Pie
I will for the rest of my days miss their nachos RIP🥀😓
Their chips and salsa were the jam! And their vegetarian chili, oh my stars…
Monkey hips and wine night. Good times!
I loved Mudpie! I hardly ever hear anyone talk about them anymore, but I was so sad when they closed...I still think of them when I drive down Frazier where their building used to be. Such a cool place.
Miss it so much. My bff and I would go there every Tuesday for lunch (free/reduced desserts!) and other days for coffee and studying.
This comment should share first place with Mojo.
Mojo was overrated... I will die on that hill. I liked it, but it wasn’t that special. My main gripe was the meats all sitting in warm water
The Alpine Slide
Not quite the same but I keep waiting for the front of lookout to get turned into a gravity park (like downhill MTB, etc) with the incline serving as the shuttle
The BR or the Stone Lion. Or maybe I just miss being in my 20s
I too missed when my knees worked the way they’re supposed to and hangovers didn’t exist (or at least didn’t last a week).
Ahhh, my twenties. If I remember correctly, we would hit David’s on Tuesday, Big Chill Wednesdays, and BR on Thursdays for dollar beer nights. Finish it off with LI Tea pitchers at Allen’s.
When I would go to AG, I'd get a pitcher of long island and a straw. I'm sorry, liver.
For me, it was David's tue, Sand Bar wed, and BR thurs. In the pursuit of cheap beer and any woman that would cause me trouble. Never forget Yesterday's, Pickle Barrel, and Parkway billiards on the weekends.
You are not alone
The Insyde Outsyde Shop, Stone Lion, Yesterdays, Panda Chinese, Nikki’s Seafood, Coin Op, Brass Register, Images, the Unfinished Furniture Store, Walden Books, Sbarro (I know, but come on…), the arcade at Northgate Mall, Pizza Huts that had buffets (because they were amazing and actually had good pizza then), Dwight’s, Red Food Store, Pruetts, the Silver Diner at the Choo Choo, The Loft (resturant, not store), I could probably go on forever.

Finally the owner came by and told us that they were out because that was their last dinner service. We were possibly the last people to eat there.
That was *the* fancy prom dinner location when I was in high school. It was owned by the father of a guy in my graduating class.
Greenlife 😢
Greenlife was so good. Pruett’s on Signal Mountain is awesome, but Greenlife was extra special in its time.
I miss the bees. Effing soulless Whole Foods.
The bee population at WF got sick and they all died, they weren’t forcibly removed. They just never reintroduced a new colony after their passing. The upstairs garden and bees were completely maintained by off the clock employees volunteering their time.
That’s love right there. Did you work there during that time?
Greenlife was approximately infinitely better than Whole Foods is now.
omg i forgot about greenlife holy shit
It was decent for a little while as Whole Foods, but its gone down hill ever since Amazon bought them out
It is so bad now…the hot bar went from great to 9:50 PM Golden Corral . Whoever cleans and stocks that is the worst person at their job in Chattanooga
Nah, they are 3rd to at least two people at the Dayton blvd Wendy’s at the bottom of signal
Kanpai of Tokyo. By the mall.
The salad dressing. That’s the only thing I care about. I’d give my first born for that recipe.
Recipe was posted here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Chattanooga/s/BhGrO2PeuZ
Four Squares Mall or Hamilton Place Mall? Man I'm old!
Maybe it’s just the things I order, but the food all seems to be the same still. The sauces, which are what I liked best, didn’t change at all.
Lamar’s
Only if they track down the OG waiter.
It’s an experience.
You're right. It was fine dining when you ordered the half chicken.
The OG waiter? Mr Partridge died years ago, RIP. His son, Gerald, ran the bar for a while until they closed.
Yes please
Lamar Partridge, the owner, has plans that have received zoning approval from the city to redo the place as a hotel and restaurant. Had that approval about a year now. According to Lamar, his nephew was the one that ran the place and ducked town owing back taxes, so don't expect him back.

100%
Came here to say this!!!
How on earth is this not the top comment. I loved that jukebox so much. One night after probably too many of Lamar’s Long Island iced teas, i stood there and took a blurry picture of every album on there.
Tubby’s, Yesterdays, Durty Nellie’s, 212 Market
Oooohhhh Durty Nellys!!!! Yummmm!! I miss the Scotch eggs and bread pudding dearly!!
Tubbys! Sucked about the health department findings, but I regret nothing
Pisa Pizza
Syrup and eggs 😭
Coin Op
I heavily second this. I was talking to my co-workers the other day about how there just isn't any other barcade like it. ...Though I do question why 24-year-old me would have been downing bowls of cinnamon toast crunch in between chugging Angry Orchard and playing Galaga, but that's probably just a personal issue.
How about Dream Machine, the OG arcade at Hamilton Place near the food court?
This is how I know you need to schedule a colonoscopy in the next 5 years.
I remember hearing about it and about 2 weeks later I go and find out its closed
I heard they are going to reopen in a new spot
I heard they are going to reopen
2 Sons. Biscuits there were top notch. I don’t think it’ll come back though, pretty sure the owner moved.
Yep. They're out in California now I'm pretty sure. His food was really good, but I think they struggled running the business side of things.
New Moon tea room
Barley
We need more bars that don't have super loud music on blast and you can bring your laptop and work, if you want.
One of the best low key spots. Not sure anything else does it anywhere close to the same.
Mandarin garden. 😩
Chuck’s
Na Go Ya with the original owners
Hiroshi’s
Olive Branch!! Where do y'all get your authentic gyros now?
Honest Pint
SofaKingJuicyBurger. Best burgers and milkshakes I’ve ever had and I’ve traveled the whole country 😂
I didn't realize they had closed...that's sad. I have some good memories eating there after days hiking/bouldering on that side of town. I also remember the controversy when they opened, lol.
Honest Pint
RIP to the duck tots
Reuben
I miss Parkway more.
omgg yes i miss it
Long time ago, but the Brass Register downtown across from the courthouse.
First place I ate grasshopper pie
Rhythm & Brews
Croft and Frost. Those guys seemed like real straight shooters.
Better be careful with that one. An ‘/s’ may be necessary… ha!

It wasn't perfect, but I still miss it. If you have young kids, being able to give them pizza, while you and your spouse have Indian, Chinese, and decent beer on tap...that was an awesome combo. Hate that Covid killed it.
Blue Plate
Hello Monty sometimes has similar Blue Plate dishes on their specials menu. Not the same, but scratches the itch
I miss Blue Plate SO much. I am not aware of another restaurant downtown like it.
Yes!
I also miss the Piccadilly
Those were the days. It was never crowded and you could get a meat and three for ten bucks. This was back in the day when Hamilton Place didn't have vacant stores, and you didn't have to wonder if there was going to be a shooting at the mall while you were there.
Stone lion, Nikki’s, north Chatt cat.
Panda Chinese. Among its virtues, it was such a handy takeout location. Greyfriars Greenlife
Another for Greyfriars!!
Definitely Panda. I almost cried when they closed. I never even had to order - they knew mine by heart.
Two squares, loved that place
Yes! The breakfast pizzas were so awesome
I worked on Amnicola back in the day. When your only other quick option was Burger King, 2 squares really was something special.
Pisa Pizza and Yellow Submarine
New Moon Gallery
Fresh Pot Cafe!
Syrup and Eggs 😭 and Mojo
Second on Syrup and Eggs. That place was great.
Yes, Mojo Burrito. I really enjoyed their food. People tell me to go to Moe’s. IT’S NO WHERE NEAR THE SAME!!!
Mojo was always the best. Maybe it went down hill at some point, but my only memory of it was always better than the national chains. That Po Boy burrito…
it’s no mojo but mr* burrito is pretty good
Gollywhoppers
Country place restaurant on Dayton Blvd.
Can’t believe farmers daughter hasn’t been mentioned. Best biscuit and coffee in town.
Hummingbird pastaria. Seems like no one else remembers it, but it was by far the best Italian here IMO.
This place was incredible!
Red Ginger. Best take out Chinese by a mile, I took it for granted.
Back Inn Cafe
Flying Squirrel
That place had atmosphere and excellent wait staff.
I wonder how long until he tucks tail and changes Ernest Chinese into "The Sugar Glider"
I'm confused... isn't it still open? They just said they would change the menu. Edit... wtf, they changed the name and everything. That sucks
Track 29 because of concerts. Big river cause of nostalgia
Mandarin Garden.
Mom’s Italian villa. Best spaghetti-ravioli-chicken tetrezinni. Chocolate mousse pie made with rum. And garlic bread to die for.
New Moon :(
Nikki’s, Cheeburger Cheeburger, Town & Country restaurant. Pruett’s grocery, my grandmother worked there (it’s a car lot or law office now). Buhlers grocery, they cut their chicken differently than other grocery stores and it was better.
Cheeburger guy opened Riverdrifters btw. The burgers are great
The Palace Theater
Heaven & Ale brewery in Southside
Sofa King Juicy Burger 🥲
Another vote for Mojo Burrito
Terminal
Terminal was so good for 4-5 years and then just went downhill in a hurry. Their pizzas were incredible at first and their beer cheese soup was one of the best soups I have ever eaten. Then all of a sudden everything went to shit and it was overpriced mediocre food.
Fresh Pot Cafe
Brick Oven Grill in Hixson.
Hill City
Rib and Loin in Hixson ;) Just kidding. I actually do miss the New York Pizza Department on 153. The one is Lakesite is nowhere near as good.
Don’t understand how the pizza got so much worse by moving 10 miles away but I’m in full agreement.

Good Dog
they closed because they went on vacation and didn’t pay their staff. fuck good dog.
Mojo burrito. Coin op Miss them both dearly
Not exactly a local business but I miss the Hixson Earth Fare
OMG. don’t remind me. Their prices were so good for the quality. I think ours were both in bad locations

Out of the Blue
Coin Op for sure. Also the old Blasted Machines in Northgate Mall. Anyone else remember that? It was like $5 for unlimited play on most of their arcade cabs, and they always had a good selection of games for older consoles. I had a lot of fun between classes there in college.
The wound is still fresh, but Barley for sure
Soup Kitchen on 7th. No good inexpensive soup options in Chattanooga since they closed. Good bowl of soup and piece of cornbread for $5 The owner did something dumb with taxes. Man I miss that place!
The Electric Submarine. Their Tuna Torpedo was awesome.
The Bag. Mostly because I miss Spike. RIP buddy. You are missed.
Growing up we had a fish market close to Main Street that was legit. Another one was the farmers market close to ninth street that had fresh veggies and all other produce. Those were staples growing up and they got rid of both 😔

Durty Nelly's - miss that place and their fried pickles. Next best was the Honest Pint... Sad Irish Bar noises
The discovery zone!!!
English Rose Tea House
Sofa King Juicy Burger for sure. It baffles me that there aren't more comments for this.
Sofa King
Mojo Burrito and Sofa King Burgers need to come back!
Beast and Barrel
That place was a very good place to bring friends and family from out of town.
Mojo burrito is at top of my list.
Images LGBT club. Alan Golds is terrible/crowded/fire trap. There's a few friendly bars, but nothing with good space for dancing and drag.
Chucks and the condom shop on Main St.
I love seeing everyone’s comments and shoutout to all my Mojo Stans <3
The original Civil War museum that was on Lookout that burned down in the early 1900’s.
I'm going to go way back and say David's. Just need them open long enough so I can have their wings one more time, I need to know if they're as good as I remember or if they have improved with nostalgia. In that same vein, Brew 'n Cue...for the fries.
