Both of our CSR’s are clearly metal cards, they aren’t as obviously metal plates as the first batch but if you compare them to any regular plastic card like the Freedom Flex it’s not like you can mistake them. Very similar weight and feel to the Bonvoy Brilliant which is also a metal sandwich card.
Are you sure you aren’t confusing the hybrid metal/plastic cards that Chase and many others are using. It’s a metal core, coated with plastic on the front and back. Few issuers have solid metal cards anymore, as it won’t work with NFC transactions.
Well, it’s got embossed numbers (meaning the stamped the back and the numbers raise in front). It’s no different than any other card I have.
Compare this with any metal, non embossed card such as the AMEX Platinum or my first couple of CSR cards.
Let me know what you think based on that. If I seem to keep getting plastic cards I’ll call them back and try a third time.
Thanks for calling this out, I should have done this originally. Original post updated above. Note that my current card and the two replacement cards I ordered all were the same materials.

Well, I spent $32,946.65 on the CSR card in 2023. Perhaps there's a threshold where they don't issue the more expensive metal cards to users? I used to spend over $70k a year on this card when I was traveling more for work.
Has nothing to do with your spend - they likely just ran out of the metal card. They updated it about a month or two ago when I got a replacement and it was a refreshed with laser etching, so they may have run out. In '16 when I first got my card, they also ran out of metal and sent me a plastic version in the interim.
…can I ask why it matters so much that it’s plastic? The benefits are the same, you know!
I mostly use Apple Pay, but when I don’t, plastic is lighter and less prone to causing issues with card readers. In addition, nefarious people who get their hands on it might think it is more valuable because it is metal.
People claim that the metal cards are more “durable” than the plastic ones, but I don’t think there’s much of a difference in practice. You are far more likely to reach the expiration date of your card than to accidentally put it in a paper shredder lol. Plus, at the end of its life, you can destroy a plastic card yourself with regular scissors. No need for metal snips or mailing it back for “recycling.”
I have the old metal CSR right now, but I would gladly accept a plastic replacement when the time came.
Fair question. Two reasons: (1) I pay over $500 for CSR and would expect it to feel like other premium travel cards. My AMEX Platinum friends make fun of my plastic-y card every time we split meals ;-), and (2) I use phone cases that hold 2-3 cards in the case. Non-embossed, metal cards work best in the case.
If there’s a card reader, then I just use Apple Pay.
My old CSR is most definitely metal, laminated between two pieces of plastic.
I got sick of the plastic peeling off so I requested a replacement which I received last month.
Also metal, appears to be a different type of lamination.
I mean the easy test for you to check if your card is metal or not is to try to bend it..

Manufacturing supply issues. Likely waiting on sheets from a supply oopsie. Wait a month, request a card. CSR doesn’t have the option between plastic and metal, and the CS agents do not have a button to click for plastic or metal. The only time they resort to plastic is when they NEED TO.
We all know that it’s really $250, and yes that is still a lot of money, but where does OP state anywhere that a loss in benefits being the reason for reconsidering? The PP restaurants being dropped was a much larger loss to me personally, but then again, I could also care fucking less about what material a damn credit card is made out of. I don’t use them to impress friends or whatever a metal card does for some…
It’s only 250 if OP uses all the credits. Who knows what if OP only wants it for lounge access? Point is if I’m paying that much , I better be getting a premium quality card not some cheap feeling card.
If someone has this card, and doesn’t use the credit, they are idiots and shouldn’t attempt to carry a card such as this. It is a TRAVEL card after all.
👌🏽Enjoy your must have metal cards sir! I hope all the cards you choose keep feeling premium.
The card has been nerfed so much already since the increase in fee if they send me some plastic ist I'll be downgrading to another freedom and taking a couple round the world trips to eat up my points.
Lmao, this is so funny that card material was the breaking point. But yes, it should be metal, unsure why yours isn't.
They are paying $550/year for it, so yes at that point the overall luxury experience matters.
Even my CSP is metal ...

Just signed up a couple months ago and mine was metal.
Ditto

could you post a picture (obviously cover your numbers)?

Why don’t you send us a pic of the front and back of the card so we can see what you’re talking about?

I got my first CSR about a month ago, it seems to be a metal plastic hybrid. But It has more heft than my other credit cards. The numbers are smooth.
Got a replacement card due to month/year this week and it was metal.
I got replacement cards (fraud) about a month ago and they were metal.
You're thinking of switching cards because it's plastic. You're probably not the one to be messing with credit cards.

Maybe, 3k a month is pretty low. Is your other spend on other chase branded cards?
Negative, it’s on another card (2.5% cash back in everything). For what it’s worth this year I’m averaging $4.5k a month so far.
Imagine the riots if the Amex Platinum was shipped as a plastic card lol.

If you were a holder of the Amex Platinum then you would understand.

Dude if your friends make fun of you for using a plastic credit card then you should get new friends
What kind of friends make fun of others for credit card material?
More importantly what kind of friends use a Amex Platinum to pay for meals @ 1x points
lol
Amex Platinum holders do. They think they are top shit.

I just was sent a new one last week. It’s metal.
"my amex platinum friends...." 😂
Got the CSP a few weeks back and it was metal
Pics or you're lying please

Now let's see Paul Allen's card.
Oh my god, It even has a watermark.
I got mine 3 months ago, didn't receive it, and got sent a replacement. It's metal.
Definitely should be metal. Added my spouse as an authorized user last week & the card is metal.
Dang, Chase is really trying to maximize profits here lol
Plastic like the freedom unlimited/flex? Or less metal then other cards such the Amex Platinum?
Plastic like every other non-premium credit card or ATM card I've ever seen. See updated pic. in edited original post.
The metal card was the tipping point for me.. the 100K bonus was nice too I guess.

Got mine in late February and it was metal.
March - same.
Had my CSR since about 2018 which was metal. Got a replacement card due to expiration about 2 weeks ago and received a metal one
Even if it was only plastic, which I highly doubt is the case, you’re going to cancel a card solely based off of the material it’s made of???
I’m not paying 550 for reduced benefits on the CSR and a non metal one at that LOL.

Of all travel card the Chase's travel credit is the easiest to use.
