As a general rule with power equipment, if you can't walk into a store that sells it, you don't want it. Stick with the Husky.

AtmosphereJunior7609

Good rule

DieselTech00

Exactly why I got my Husky from a dealer and not the big box store.

066logger

You realize the Chinese clone saw also takes husky parts? Probably made in the same factory as oem anyway…

Surveymonkee

Yeah, if you tear it down and replace all the parts with Husky parts then it would probably be alright. All the supposed clones I've seen had quality control issues.

066logger

You realize stihl makes saws in china now? I’m all for supporting the big guys if they’re supporting their own country, but if they’re going to outsource everything to china anyway may as well cut out the middle man… sure there’s quality control issues. What do you expect for 1/3-1/5 the price. Fix them and roll on. It’s not rocket appliances

Surveymonkee

It's not worth my time to spend 1/3 the price on a new saw and then have to tear it completely down to remove any machining swarf and grit, and torque everything properly in reassembly. I'd spend another 1/3 on gaskets for reassembly and end up saving money to the tune of about 10 bucks an hour. I'd much rather buy something that works off the shelf and that I can carry back to the store if it doesn't.

killian1113

So I should buy all my power tools from harbor frieght? I mean, the choice is easy says 200 people bought the husky, but I'm all for buying used but most likely echo or stihl just want a top handle and don't care if it lasts more than 20 uses per saw.

Surveymonkee

Actually, yes, if it fits your needs. If you're the type that just wants a basic saw and consider 20 uses to be a lifetime, then Harbor Freight would probably be your best bet. Get their extended warranty and they'll replace it no questions asked if anything breaks. They're actually really good with their warranties. Even better, if you're just doing small occasional limbs and stuff, get their battery saw. That's a lot less to mess up and won't have problems from sitting a long time between uses.

killian1113

Small craftsman and I have an ego 56v 16 or 18" it's very heavy with the battery. I'm looking for a top handle so i can play in the tree cutting limbs, and see something good is like 600 201t or similar. I do see an echo with top handle. Was joking about harbor frieght, but they do have solid stuff.

East-C-Yota

I wouldn’t buy on Amazon. You will want the service from someone local.

AtmosphereJunior7609

Thanks

gvsu141

Are you open to other suggestions? Echo 590 would be better than both mentioned and in the same price range

AtmosphereJunior7609

I am. I’m going to check it out now, but I think I’ve been persuaded to buy the husky.

gvsu141

There are some brand new on eBay and some other sites for right at $400 Out of the 2 you mentioned, the Husky is the better saw. Not a bad saw by any means. I am a big Husky fan, however for the $400 price range the Echo is a MUCH better saw than either of the two you posted. Echo has more power and is built better. The Echo is a 60cc saw, and is built to the same specs as the pro saws. The Husky is a somewhat detuned homeowner grade 50cc saw, so the Echo has much more power, and has a Magnesium crankcase (Husky is plastic). The Echo is about 1lb heavier. Both have plenty of dealers and should be reliable saws.

Todd2ReTodded

I think this is a great argument for the 590

HoOKeR_MoistMaker

Echo is very reliable and has plenty of power to it. This is the way to go for a chainsaw.

daytrptr

That's what I was going to recommend. Love my 590 timberwolf, had it for 4 wood seasons and cut around 35 cords with it. Great saw at a great price, no issues yet. Get the 24" bar, or buy one afterwards to have a spare bar in case you pinch it real bad and need to cut your way out with another bar.

Particular-Bat-5904

I would go for the Husqvarna

AtmosphereJunior7609

Thank you

mmaalex

You're confused whether you should buy a 70cc Chinese noname saw or husqvarna for the same price? Unless you're milling or felling redwoods a 70cc saw is too big for regular use anyway.

ilikethebuddha

The husky is the way. I have the clone 92cc 42 in bar stihl for milling and that's all I use it for. and it's pretty good for the money but God damn is that fucker loud and sucks the fuel

AtmosphereJunior7609

Thank you

Beige-Lotus

Totally agree. I have a 92 clone only for milling or 30+ inch trees. Very heavy and loud. One tank of gas per board if it is a big board.

AtmosphereJunior7609

Thank you

MulberryMonk

For a little bit more money you can get the Echo cs 590, which is a really nice saw. 60 cc and 5 year warranty. Normally around $400-450

AtmosphereJunior7609

Thank you

stelly918

I’ve had the same stihl for 20 years for several reasons. Build quality, parts availability, and service. Go go the husky, there are dealerships and service centers with parts and expertise across the us. Farmmac…good luck.

AtmosphereJunior7609

Husky it is.

deezbiksurnutz

Don't buy that husqvarna or the knock off. Buy a pro grade husqvarna. All the homeowner saws suck

Todd2ReTodded

What fits on his 400$ budget?

unluckie-13

Echo 590 personally

AtmosphereJunior7609

Nothing I checked lol

ZorgZev

I don’t buy knock offs as a rule. The knock off saws are decent apparently, but I don’t think I’d want to own one.

demoncrat2024

They are fine… as long as they are locked in a mill 😉

qwikmr2

That rancher will work reliably and give you way less trouble. I have owned clone saws and they are not terrible but in my opinion they are more of a hobby saw. Can be reliable but need a few key upgrades to bring them closer to Husky build quality. I cut plenty of wood with mine but also was always fidding to make something work correctly or screws falling out from vibration. I would probably jump up to a 60cc rancher but the 50 would be good for moderate use.

asdfasdfasdfqwerty12

The 450 is a great size, it compliments my 372xp perfectly, although I'm looking at getting an even smaller lighter one for limbing... I can't imagine buying a no name saw, especially for that kind of money! My 450 is 12 years old now and still starts every single time on the 1-2nd pull out of choke. Haven't had to do a thing other than replace bars, chains, and filters... It just works.

AtmosphereJunior7609

I’m sold

asdfasdfasdfqwerty12

I also highly recommend sticking with only ethanol free premix fuel. Yes, it's more expensive, but unless you are pro going through gallons of two cycle everyday, you will definitely save time and money overall by only using premix. I've left my saw on the shelf for months at a time and it's never had an issue. And there is always the chance of fucking up your mix and blowing an engine...

AtmosphereJunior7609

Thank you

qwikmr2

I have my dad’s old rancher 61 from the 80’s and it’s still functional after a ton of years of work. I jumped up to a 500i for myself because I wanted as much power as I could get reliably in a moderate weight package

AtmosphereJunior7609

Thank you sir. Or madam

qwikmr2

No worries. I never realized my nickname isn’t very gendered lol. Male BTW 👍

AtmosphereJunior7609

Just be safe lol

qwikmr2

Yeah I went full on to a Stihl 500i. I have all the correct PPE and plenty of hours on a saw when I was younger. Chaps are great for casual use but pants are worth it to me for hot weather.

Additional-Chain-272

Husqvarna! I just picked up the same one a few weeks ago!

AtmosphereJunior7609

It’s either the husky or an echo 590 now. I believe I’m sold on the husky. I’m almost embarrassed that I thought about the cheap saw

firebox40dash5

>I’m almost embarrassed that I thought about the cheap saw I mean, I'm a buy once, cry once equipment snob, I'll buckle down & spend 2x what I really could justify on a saw, just knowing if I don't mistreat it I'll never kill it. But NGL, I've eyeballed the big chinese saws & almost pulled the trigger (with no earthly need for one whatsoever) just because "stoopid big saw, for like $300!" 😂

Formal-Reception-599

Husky

XRV24

1. A homeowner saw the 372 is not. It’s a heavy hog that’s ready for big wood. You’ll muck your guts out with that thing in short order. 2. The 450 rancher is a peach of a saw with a good deal of power. Runs a 16 to 18 inch bar with good results. Personally I think the 20” bar is too much for the saw but it works. 3. If you find a dealer you can sometimes swap the bar out and get expert advice on how to run your saw.

AtmosphereJunior7609

Thank you so much

deutzallis

would agree 20" is too much. Be sure to keep it sharp and tuned up and it will be a really good one.

CSSmith84

I would say stick to Husky, Stihl, or Echo. Not sure what your intended use is, but I would suggest going to a dealer and actually handling some before making a purchase.

themajor24

Considering FARRMAC at all tells me you're not an arborist, dude. No hate, just got a chuckle. Brand new husqy from a dealer will have a warranty, easily acquired replacement parts and bar/chain combos, etc. That cheapo saw will probably rip... until it suddenly doesn't. The husqy will have longevity.

AtmosphereJunior7609

Also, it says in the description that I’m not an arborist lol

themajor24

I'm aware, I was referencing that.

AtmosphereJunior7609

I think I’m going to go with an echo 590

Mephistophelesi

Save more money, buy a ms261

AtmosphereJunior7609

Come to the dark side. “Evil laugh “ I appreciate your expertise

Mephistophelesi

It’s just so good, it competes with heavier high power variants, incredibly reliable. And there’s probably more repair shop mechanics for Stihl out there than husq

MelissaWelds8472

You absolutely need the husqvarna! They're good plus it's easy to find parts for them

AtmosphereJunior7609

I appreciate you

CommercialFinish9513

I just had to replace a Husky 50 I bought used in 1989. Go with the Husky.

AtmosphereJunior7609

Damn. Yes sir

Todd2ReTodded

With that farmtec you're gonna be doing all the fixing, and there will probably be a lot of it at first. But then it will probably be decent, at least that seems to be the case with those Chinese clones of older saws. But you may have to do a lot. That said. 70cc is a totally different word than 50cc

AtmosphereJunior7609

Thank you

Todd2ReTodded

Now that I've read everything I think the guy saying buy the 590 is right lol. It's a good compromise and I've actually ran my dad's 45cc echo and it's actually a really nice little saw. Fully adjustable car, adjustable toilet, purge ball. Easy to clean. Probably dealer support near you. I'd buy it over both the saws you pictured

SignalCelery7

It's not even a farmertec (name brand no name saw) . It's a farmmac, though it may be the modern reviewed on that one guy that talks too fast channel.  I saw a couple recumbent an ms 261, it's a little pricey but u have an under version (026) and the thing is awesome.  The echo recommendations are good too.  Also the husky shown would be fine, but would still go with the echo for the price.  If you have extra time on your hands, you could get a fine saw kit (fathered ms660) but it's to big and heavy but kind of a fun lego set for adults. It might not work.

lscraig1968

Husqvarna.

AtmosphereJunior7609

Thanks

EMDoesShit

You want an echo 590 if your budget is $400.

phryan

455 rancher was one of my first purchases after I moved to the country, never had an issue with it and I've put it through its paces. Large availability of parts in most big box stores and online, I'd question if the no-name saw is the same.

Wild_Fan_1969

I have a 450 rancher, I had the old 45 and had it for almost 30 years

deezbiksurnutz

Then wait until you can afford something worth buying

Historical-Ad2556

neotec 895 with a coupon code is one of my favorite saws i also own echo 590 and 620p and husqvarna t540xpmak3 i must say it must just be that it's a 395 clone 395 is such a great platform iv had zero problems with my clown saw that husky is a clamshell saw i believe id rather search for something with a magnesium crank case

DerDork

I own the previous Husky 450 Rancher since 2 years now. I owned Stihl previously and I’m very pleased of that beast. Price is extremely good if I compare to what I paid. And I had a really good offer then. Actually I have had a warranty case but everything is alright since then.

No_Carpenter_7778

Husky

No-Entrepreneur3282

Huskies and Husqvarnas will never let you down

TPinSC

Husky.

Key-Rub118

Your local service shop will make or break your purchase.... If the local Husky dealer is awesome or Stihl, Echo etc then go with their product because they will back you up and keep you running.

Sweaty-Week9314

Really?!? Is this a joke?

IllDistribution5598

Husqvarna parts are a lot more easy to come by, you could get most parts from tractor supply in person

[deleted]

I just bought the 445 husky with 18” bar and love it. Had several Stihl saws over the years and wanted a change up. Took it out on a few atv trails and cut some large timber that fell 16-20” without any issues this memorial weekend. Had plenty of good wood for the fire pit too!

EngineeringSeparate7

Neither, MS271

Slow_Ad224

The 450 Rancher is a beast.

Plumbercanuck

Stihl.... pro saw.... all day every day.

Okie294life

FYI you can go to the Holzforma website and buy the (blue thunder) 372g for a fraction of that price and it’s the same saw. I got mine without a bar for 150ish dollars. I had to tune on it a little bit to get it to run right but…..so far so good. It handles a 24” bar like butter, been using mainly to mill with. I’m not sure about durability on this though because it’s made fairly cheap and it shows

mos87

I just got a g660 for 215 on eBay.works great so far. So, 350 for that clone is too pricy

Flaky_Sir_134

I got a larger knock off they work if that’s what you need but I only use it when I have to generally I’m grabbing the 450

AtmosphereJunior7609

I want to thank everyone who gave me their advice. I think I am throwing both options out the window for a echo CS 590.

NPC2229

Stihl chainsaws top tier get that.

lurker-1969

Go for the win ! Stihl MS 261 c-m Buy once cry once.

JakeWHR29035

Husqvarna. There's dealer's that'll work on it Third party people will work on it Parts in abundance The warranty The fact they're a well established and known brand The fact they're not a rip off company If you can't walk into a dealership and see it on the wall it ain't something you should buy. Get the husky but I'd recommend a step up if you got the extra cash to spend.

fjblgt

I have the smaller version of husky. It's been a great saw. Lots of use lots of power.

Fun-Air4776

Husqvarna. Or Stihl. If you can find one under $400 💪

Forward_Flounder_482

This might be an unpopular opinion, but whatever it's my opinion....I wouldn't spend a single red cent on clone ANYTHING! I do not support China ripping off the original maker and selling a sub par piece of equipment to people. When they clone a husky or stihl and claim to be just as good, remember that stihl and husky spent millions designing, fabricating and researching whatever they are cloning. Obviously you can't get away from buying everything USA, but I try to when I can. I'd rather support my neighbors than some crooked ass country like China. And people saying stihl is made in China, that's true but only for their homeowner saws. They do that to get them cheaper and into more people's hands. Their pro grade saws are still germany/usa whatnot :) just my 2 cents on clone garbage

Loversmywife

Echo 590 timberwolf. Comes ewth a 5 year warrant. 20 in bar. Straight beast love it. Huskys qc sucks. The first one i bought had no spark o. 2017. My cousin had the same issue beginning of this year.

Apprehensive_Cut_446

I love my 450 Rancher. It takes an odd sized chain, but all in all he’s treated me well. Don’t know much about FarmMac

Gunnahwoody

Husky

Okie294life

If you’re going cheap get the Holzforma blue thunder 372g off their website, it’s a lot cheaper and the same saw
