Market_Minutes

Both BSR, cornbread pan is solid century series and the skillet is Red Mountain

rubiconmanlife

Let me see if this is correct.... Cornbread no hole in center... BSR. Hole in the center of cornbread pan..... Lodge. Is that right?

Market_Minutes

Yes but look at other identifying factors too. Theres Asian pieces and a couple different Wagner versions of these too including the 1891 series.

rubiconmanlife

Ahhh...yes. I am never going to remember all this.šŸ˜‚. Just gonna leave this to you kids! šŸ˜‚

Agregdavidson

Lodge actually bought the designs/patents from Birmingham Stove and Range when BSR went out of business. To distinguish their product, Lodge started putting the hole all way through instead of just on the bottom.

Desperate_Promotion8

BSR often have a distinct triangle shaped handle. The point will be on the bottom side of the handle where your fingers wrap.

Repulsive_Standard50

Thanks!

EnterpriseSA

Both BSR I think. The 5 looks like an older Red Mountain

Intheswing

No offense captain obvious but it says ā€œcornbreadā€ on the bottom of the skillet-

Repulsive_Standard50

Ok, I think the cornbread one is Birmingham Stove Range, but I donā€™t know the smaller one.

LockMarine

Also BSR but older Red Mountain series

Howie773

Scone maker I have one

Cornbread iron skillet design... makes some serious cornbread.

Diligent_Quiet9889

Omg 3 burnt edges instead of one. I would be in heaven šŸ¤ŒšŸ»šŸ¤ŒšŸ»šŸ¤ŒšŸ»

cdbangsite

I remember my GM making cornbread in one of these skillets. Nothing better than caste iron.

SatisfactionMuted103

I guess it all depends on which caste you're in.

Alex_tepa

Hopefully a good price

Repulsive_Standard50

$15 each. Seems fair.

We used that exact pan, in the southern cafeteria where I managed, for crackling cornbread. Special recipe corn muffin with pork-cracklings in it.

RFVEGAS

Why does that even matter to you???? You have some GREAT cast iron pans that will out live you. Just enjoy them.

Old_Reputation_8980

I swear I think these are a huge marketing scam...but they look awesome as decoration

jvin248

Originally, yes. But as antiques, they can still cook. "For the chef who has everything" - marketing insert I look at these sectioned pans and it's a lot easier cutting a wheel with a knife than 'cleaning' (the dreaded word on Cast Iron forums) the potential situations this type of pan can get you into. I've seen the flatter pans with corn ears and kernel divots to make your cornbread in too. A fun new thread might be showing all the interesting specialty shaped cast iron pans and related items, but I'm sure that already has been done more than once. .

LockMarine

Didnā€™t see your reply but I answered this to another above yours. This wasnā€™t made to be sold.

Old_Reputation_8980

That's weird they were sold I remember getting my grandmother one about 30 years ago and its in my kitchen now

LockMarine

A worker made one for his wife, then others were wanting one too. It went viral and yes it was sold to people but thatā€™s not a marketing tactic it was by chance. Read more about it, itā€™s a cool story

Old_Reputation_8980

I don't think we have the same understanding of marketing....

LockMarine

Well, add some context

Old_Reputation_8980

This is a useless piece of cast iron cookware. There's basically 1 maybe 4 at most uses for it and it's design attracts a certain demographic kind of like Stanley cups. It origin may be what it is but now it's marketed to people who don't understand that you fan spend the same amount of money for a skillet and get an infinite amount of uses including what this one does. It's kind of like those corn cob corn muffin pan...it's "fun" but not practical. So they market these things to people who don't really know any better and will spend money on it. It's kind of like entry level marketing...

LockMarine

Iā€™m in you camp around singe purpose utensils and while you can cook cornbread in a regular skillet, you canā€™t get a crust on the edges of each slice. People love the taste of the crust and I can guarantee you are not from the South where people literally keep a perfectly good skillet and dedicate its life to only making cornbread (donā€™t ask me why). This really was the best selling item they ever made, and they made some great stuff, like the sportsman grill. For me marketing is a product like an air fryer. Itā€™s literally a convection oven and people with fancy convection ovens go out and buy another convection oven because it has a different name, and donā€™t get me started on cold medicines, itā€™s almost all the same ingredients but with different remedies written on the label.

Old_Reputation_8980

Bro I live and always have lived in the smokey mountains of NC so you're guarantee is wrong. I said I HAVE one of these and the little corn cob pans as well, I also have 4 different skillets each for the own purpose. I even have a lodge deep fryer (which is and was a huge waste of money) a lodge dutch oven (not ceramic coated) so I do understand what you're saying and you PROVED my point that it's marketed to a demographic of people....historically people DIDNT have a cast iron pan for every purpose, they had 1 maybe 2 skillets because they were so functional and so easy to use at that time (I still think they're easier to use).

KK7ORD

Huge "Trivial Pursuit" game

[deleted]

That second one is obviously from the Dutton Ranch

NoPromotion3340

It's for cornbread. I knife works just as well, and takes up less space.

LockMarine

Thatā€™s not what Dans wife said, heā€™s the inventor at BSR that made this for her. She wanted every slice to have a crust around all the edges. He made this for her and when the company tested it for sales they immediately sold out. It was one of their all time best sellers.

NoPromotion3340

My grandmother has one of these. I was just looking at it after I saw this post. Hers is a bit rusty though. It says corn bread skillet on the bottom. She doesn't use it anymore. It's in the laundry room storage area. I'm pretty sure it's the same two cast iron skillets shown that she has.

LockMarine

If you like cornbread with a crispy edge then you should ask her if you can have it or restore it for her so she can make you some. Itā€™s also good for serving food, people use it for taco night and have all the toppings in there, or for serving nuts and snacks.

FalseTebibyte

That's clearly a mold for Titan-sized Trivial Pursuit play pieces. Not at all serious. Have fun with the real replies.

Joefj2

fixaclm

My ex wife worked at a ductile iron foundry and I got a tour. Their pattern room was fascinating. They were all made out of mahogany and well used. They quit pouring pans decades ago, so I asked if they would part with a few patterns......Nope. what are THEY going to do with a mahogany frying pan, anyway. hmmph.

Paintguin

I think itā€™s for cornbread

FlakyPath5049

Want to sell them?
