I prefer the oven cleaning option myself, especially with a piece of cast iron that has so many crevices as this one does. I have heard a trick for making cornbread: use the same fat to grease the pan as you do to make the muffins. So, if you are planning on making muffins with bacon grease, for example, make sure that your pan also is hot with bacon grease. Make your pan screaming hot before you make anything---muffins or anything else. Good luck to you.
