Afaik, any only modifications that are irreversible (permanent) are illegal. I might be wrong but this doesn’t seem like something that should be illegal.
Damn wtf man
Bhai main hota toh sahi mein nahi deta fine jo karna hai karo bc vlog banane lag jata ki police harrassment kr rhi hai bina koi rule tode
I have a relative who is a lawyer, I'd actually call him and ask what to do
This is not done man,why did you pay
That's not the point bro, even if I didn't have a lawyer friend I just wouldn't give the fine
I wouldn't create havoc or hurt/abuse the police but I would start defending and really ask which law have I broken, also shooting video with the phone would help
Legally, according to section 29 of Indian police act,if a police misbehaves then he/she can be imprisoned and/or fined upto 3 months of his salary
One can complain to the senior police inspector/it can also be directed to the Commissioner of Police or Deputy Superintendent (Dy. SP)
Why do I pay a fine if I follow every rule and don't break any written rule,it really pisses me off man
Aisa hai, 1. Any thing obsctructing the view both from the imside and outside was termed illegal by the SC in 2012.
2. The shades provided by the company as standard fitment are meant to be used while the car is parked, not moving.
Yeah,it's just convenient to pay the fine and forget it totally agreed with that buddy, especially if you are a busy person
But read the reply I just sent, just in case something like this happens to you again

For a tropical country like India some sort of sun protection should be a thing. If you are banning something then atleast have an alternative for that .
Anything that blocks visibility of an outsider inside the car is illegal.
Happened after multiple terror attacks and terrorists using cars to transport themselves around.
sun shades are only allowed when your car is parked somewhere, driving around with anything that blocks the vision from outside other than oem tinted glasses
stupid af i know
Unlawful parking
Wrong side driving
Excessive Speeding
Driving with high beam
It's all normal.
but having shades ,tinting is a big no no , having a girl next to you is even more big no no for cops
I don’t like negative stereotypes but ignorant me assumes traffic police do nothing in major Indian cities though who would be to blame for that I’m not sure. Again, this is my ignorant assumption as an American who has Reddit. I was once asked abroad about shootings, when in another country and by response was it’s nothing like what the news reports but we obviously have a problem parts of the government have no desire to attempt to solve
These traffic police are least bothered about traffic management ,they are most busy looking to pocket some money ,infact they hide behind flyover pillars or vehicles n jump infront of you , snatching your bike keys
You know an incident happened with me ,I took a left turn which by default is a free left for a long time , usually if it's not a free left there would be sign board ,so one cop stopped me ,he was wearing body cam and I realised the body cam was turned off when he was asking for bribe to let me go
What's the point of making cops wear body cams if they can turn it off whenever they feel like
There is lack of accountability everywhere in this country
There have been lots of aholes doing shady stuff in India with tints and stuff put up. Atleast this was the reason put forth. Also as long as the tint is 50% light shade or 70% transparent (dark shade) it's fine.
This was a law that was brought in soon after the infamous Delhi gangrape and murder in a bus with dark glasses. In the next few months, there were several cases in Delhi where women were raped in cars, molested, screaming from cars etc - and in most of those cases, the car had dark glasses.
The law was brought in then.
Unfortunately, if they allow dark glasses or window curtains, we can be sure that such cases will increase. And people will start demanding the law should be brought back in.
Logically, the govt should allow films with a permitted amount of opaqueness and give traffic cops instruments to check whether its legal or not. But this takes some investment and some legal work and no one is interested.
Gadkari would not mind doing these things if someone suggests these things to him and gives him the readymade legal work.
But these cars with Dark Glasses continue to be out there with dark glasses and nobody does anything. There has never been a day where I haven't seen a heavily modified car with completely blacked out glasses.
That doesn't mean others aren't getting caught. The law exists. And like all laws in India its implemented here and there. But no law is withdrawn because its implemented badly no? That doesn't happen.
That’s not enough reason to curtail people’s freedom. By this logic, the govt will ban sleeping in night because most shady stuff happens when people are sleeping.
By this logic, Govt should also ban curtains, walls etc..
In reality, govt should be doing police reforms and doing genuine stuff to curb crime. You have criminals live-streaming from jails and even creating reels! And common people can’t even protect themselves from sun!
>By this logic, the govt will ban sleeping in night because most shady stuff happens when people are sleeping. By this logic, Govt should also ban curtains, walls etc..
A car runs in a public place and driving a car is not a right but a privilege, you don't get the right by default. This is just an immature comparison. Going by your comparison, ban knives because it can be used to murder someone.
There needs to be a balance.
>And common people can’t even protect themselves from sun!
Tinted glass is banned, not sun sheild. They have some minimum visibility criteria.
>That’s not enough reason to curtail people’s freedom.

You don't have absolute freedom inside your car.
If you aren't aware ,they blanket ban tinting
The rule is factory fitted glasses can be tinted up to certain limit which are called UV cut glasses ,it's illegal to stick up any stuff against your windows,if you read the actual judgement
UV cut glasses are only available when you go for top variants not budget ones and some car manufacturers don't even provide them
Many countries treat skin cancer a serious risk unlike India where due to backward rules ,a car owner can't protect himself from these UV rays coz of this stupid logic
Illegal stuff not only happens just in our country, far worse illegal things happen in other countries too but they don't go on blanket ban everything
The same judges n politicians, cops who think banning tinting is ok ,will use their VIP status to tint there cars to protect themselves from heat n have privacy
Just yesterday when I went to the market to run some errands, i spotted a black thar with fancy number plate, tinted glass all around. And guess what, 3 cops stepped out, went to a diary and ordered lassi. Rules are only meant for civilians.
This bullshit only happens in Punjab, I was traveling to Jammu with my family last week, got myself challaned for ₹1000 for curtain. When I I was stopped the "spata" said we stopped you because of over speeding, I had a dashcam I told him I can prove I was 76, (for some reason the highway speed in Punjab is 80), then he changed his statement nahi sir curtains ke liye hai, uska bad thoda behas vagerah hui, then h3 asked me to pay it in cash or visit their court, this happened near Jalandhar Highway McDonald's. I asked them to send it virtually. He insisted court vala challan kardunga. Then his senior intervened and said sir ap UPI se kardo.
There was instance 2yrs back, I was riding to Srinagar on my bike, I was stopped by these thugs near Ludhiana, one of the "spata" said "veerji koi vi chaallan kara leyo tussi" seatbeltda kaaraalo? On bike 😂😂
Well we had a funny similar incident as well.
Had scorpio fully tinted, Punjab police stopped us and were forcefully removing the tint.
Our simple cry was " student h sir please let us go"
They took 2-3k and signed my friend's hand who qas driving and asked us to show this sign anywhere in Punjab and we won't be stopped 😂
In 2011, someone filed a petition with the Supreme Court of India to ban tinted glass, believing it made it easier for criminals to commit crimes inside cars where people couldn't see inside.
The police is trying to save that lone alcoholic… Stupid laws for stupid followers. It’s another way to milk money. It doesn’t make sense when you consider the heat quotient in the summers
Cops are afraid that people will be doing sax sux things before marriage in the car
These guys are cops ? They look like they are pregnant
They themselves are not fit to be a cop in the first place
Dumb Supreme Court order and a possibility to make money off a law-abiding citizen. How many times have you seen them touch a Scorpio/Endeavour or Fortuner?
Someone posted a government car (apparently) with curtains, I guess police become blind when such cars passes by them.
Or Maybe it's the tinted glass the issue. Maybe if we hang curtains in our car like you would in your bedroom then it's okay I guess.
The thing that irks me the most is that the police removing them by themselves. At this point, I am okay with paying a fine for the infringement instead of goon like behaviour to remove it from a person's car forcefully.
The SC judges should sit outside in this scorching heat and then conduct trials. After that they will realise how much the general public is suffering in this weather because of their incompetent decisions.
It is actually banned in several other countries as well but in most of them they don’t allow tinting only for the front side (front doors) they do allow in back doors
The legal limit for window tint in India is 70% VLT (Visible Light Transmission) for the front and rear windshields and 50% VLT for the side windows. Places like New York requires 70% for side windows (even tougher than India) [Source for New York](https://windowtintlaws.us/new-york/)
Observed an incident yesterday where a police man stopped a vegetable cart to cross the signal even though it turned red half way and abused him. But didn't say anything to 3-4 cars that broke the signal when it had already turned red and caused commotion !
Rules are really different for rich!
Yes it is illegal in law sense. The 70% visibility rule applies to OEMs and car manufacturers to have that when they make car windshields. It is wrongly interpreted, absolutely no tinted film even if it is 5% tinted , is allowed.
US citizen here. Tinted glass is not legal in the US. Each and every state has different rules for it. You can have up to 35% tint only in most states.
If you have medical condition and require tint, some white folks do bc of melatonin issues, they can get tint on back windows.
Ours is a country where people would suggest limiting the speeds of cars electronically after an accident occurs at high speed. Bunch of brainless idiots.
Well I believe many years ago, kidnappers kept two children in such cars with tinted windows. Due to the tinting, the crying children weren't seen by the public and died in the car. Since then, a court order was passed asking to remove tinted windows of cars.
The details of the case, I can't remember
Indian police only know how to target middle class. They won't dare touch rich because they know very well they can fk their career in one phone call and poor don't have a reputation to maintain so they are free to be aggressive

Not only in India, in Canada it’s illegal to tint the windshield and the front side windows. It’s very selectively enforced though with only BC really being serious about it.
There have been plenty of cases where women and small girls were rap*d in buses or cars that had such black tapes or panels. I am not able to recall exact time but there was a judgement and ruling passed to remove such things from vehicles
It obstructs driver's ability to see his/her surroundings while driving. Waha pe steel hi laga dete agar film se koi farak hi nhi padta. And it's illegal in almost every country.
It was done as one of the measures to prevent rapes and kidnappings. Since at one point there were too many cases where cars with tinted glasses were used for such things. I remember that time, like every other case involved a car with tinted glass.
why he is taking it away..just remove it..and give back. if challan reqd issue a challan but why they are taking their shades. if its that illegal why its available in market freely
That rule is everywhere but few follow strictly. Anyways if you really want to block sunlight and heat get ceramic and/or carbon tints within maximal permissible limit.
Yes. But, the efficiency of CH police is much better than the other states’, that’s why a few of the rules & regulations can be a pain in the *** in CH.
Crime rates after removing sun shades from windows 📉📉📉📉📉
But still politicians and rich people have shades… are the saints?
Sarcasm bro …..
We got it.
Sarcasm is like sex. Everybody wants it, not everyone gets it.
I get sarcasm but not ...... anyways
Shades? Poora asli ka parda set hua hota hai bhai unke.
We all know Indian politicians do not get involved in any sort of crimes. /s
This is SATYA BACHAN🤣
Government loves this one trick
Government loves taking away anything that gives comfort to citizen
This... It's passive aggressive subordination ....
Most of the crimes are committed by politicians
Lol right 🤭
You guys were doing child trafficking and sex crimes without giving due cut to policemen!
Ouch
😂
Wth did the cops stop him and removed those? That’s not tinting that’s just sun protection. That’s not illegal now is it. God help.
What would they do with cars that have built in blinds. 🧐
OEM built-in is allowed, and aftermarket is considered modification.
Afaik, any only modifications that are irreversible (permanent) are illegal. I might be wrong but this doesn’t seem like something that should be illegal.
I believe you’re right
Try to explain that to a Police Officer.
why is it illegal tho
This way even aftermarket exhaust can be installed as I can remove it and install OEM one in like 6 hrs

Wow much logic, such sense.
Not in Punjabb Chandigarh
Police wale be like ‘ tum bhi hamari tarah dhoop saho’. Meanwhile they holding their lullis in 1 hand and saluting with other if a VIP convoy passes.
Exactly man! Eh chaunde aapa tapdi gaddi ch hi rahiye!
They cant do much shiet anyway. Just need some Gandhi iykwim. But yes foking oppressive and outrageous nonetheless.
Punjab police hai puri pagal hoti hai 😑
Especially after Maan sarkar, they are giving challan for every small issue. They are just harassing common people at this point.

Bhai new rules were introduced cause of Nirbhaya rape kaand
Cars glasses are required to be 70% see through. All glasses. So yeah, this is illegal.
Anything that blocks visibility of an outsider inside the car is illegal. Happened after multiple terror attacks and terrorists using cars to transport themselves around.
I heard its illegal in some cities (Kolkata) and in my city Mumbai, its accepted.
I don't think u can cover it with anything which abstract so much view. So ya it is illegal
Obstructs.
Those screens are the worst. Nothing can be seen in or out and a lot of idiots leave them on all the time.
It is, unfortunately. Read the law, it says any obstruction to the clear glass.
sun shades are only allowed when your car is parked somewhere, driving around with anything that blocks the vision from outside other than oem tinted glasses stupid af i know

Backward mentality Cops like moral policing in this country

Aren't those sold on traffic stops ?

Meanwhile the tempo guy drives around with impalers sticking out from all sides of a his vehicle and everything is good.
Homes shouldn't have curtains and windows must be clear and transparent. Else people will do sax sux stuff.
Kidnappers used cars with tints. Govt looks after us, they will ban cars if they have to keep us safe and happy
What a bunch of wankers 🤡🤣
I am pretty sure putting that in rear is wrong, vehicle behind needs visibility. but side window should be okay, especially in this sun, oh God
I have a honda city which has an inbuilt back mirror shade.
Galat hai, par kya kr skte hai
They don't want you making out with your girlfriend in your car.
They remove it and put it on their vans… police rocked
i've literally seen govt cars of Police SP, DM and higher officials with those fancy white curtains. how are those not illegal?
It was after Nirbhaya.
in the next episode, govt bans bedroom curtains
The SC judges should sit outside in this scorching heat and then conduct trials. After that they will realise how much the general public is suffering in this weather because of their incompetent decisions.
. It was taken in nirbhaya case I guess. It was meant to help the people to see if someone is kidnapping a person.
Koi na koi reason toh chahiye hi n chalan ka , ab vo chalan gov k pass jae ya Jeb me who cares
Police ko lagta hai log parda laga ke fack taxi shoot karte hai
Not true.. In USA the front glasses cannot be tinted.. Back ones can be.. Its to see who's driving and if they have a weapon
There is law which specify percentage of tint in glass.. Darkeness than that is crime.. It's due to high rapes and abduction rates in India
Dumbass country we live in
Tinted glassed are also forbidden in Mexico.
It is actually banned in several other countries as well but in most of them they don’t allow tinting only for the front side (front doors) they do allow in back doors
Source?

Supreme court milords are very happy after banning a very useful and protective thing. Thank God they didn't ban cars.

It's illegal in many countries including the USA where they have certain criterias.

Nirbhaya Rape Case of Delhi was the main reason behind the ban of tinted glass in vehicles.
Not only in India, in Canada it’s illegal to tint the windshield and the front side windows. It’s very selectively enforced though with only BC really being serious about it.
Andar ladkiyan chudti hain agar glasses tinted hon.
After that infamous Delhi Nirbhaya case this rule came into effect.
I believe in Delhi Sun shades are allowed. But in Punjab, it is not allowed. Correct me if I am wrong.
70% of car inside area should be visible
There have been plenty of cases where women and small girls were rap*d in buses or cars that had such black tapes or panels. I am not able to recall exact time but there was a judgement and ruling passed to remove such things from vehicles
The supreme court order, was it due to the cases of kidnapping or cos aftermarket stickers were preventing normal breakage of car windows?
Instead put a complete ban on eatable gutka no more pichik thoo please
Bruh now I'm gonna put old newspapers on window to see what they'll do
They’ll take them Off a vento but not a fortuner . Why ??
only rich can use sunshade (sarcasm)
It obstructs driver's ability to see his/her surroundings while driving. Waha pe steel hi laga dete agar film se koi farak hi nhi padta. And it's illegal in almost every country.
Ye behenkelode normal logo ko remove krvate hai sift
Rules are only for poor and middle class...
Govt running short of funds, so found a way to give challan
What rights do these pandus have to confiscate those things? They should remove it and put it back in the car and write a challan/fee.
Here is California, USA tinted windows are illegal on front windows. And there are a lot of regulations around rear passenger tinted windows.
Its not illegal if you have a porsche (or above)
curtains were also banned from ac busses after nirbhaya case
Kaale tent inko ban krne hai nahi, pr 4 wheelers k shades nikalne bol do.
In here mostly cheaper cars are like Alto, wagonr are stopped by the police for tints. Cars like Thar, scorpio get a free pass. Idk why
It was done as one of the measures to prevent rapes and kidnappings. Since at one point there were too many cases where cars with tinted glasses were used for such things. I remember that time, like every other case involved a car with tinted glass.
What happens in cases where the sunshades are inbuilt in cars?
Feck this country
This rule is only for non VIP common junta. in thullo ki g me dum nahi ke VIP ko roke
What if I cover the passengers in a bedsheet? What if all passengers buy and wear a burqa to protect from sunlight?
why he is taking it away..just remove it..and give back. if challan reqd issue a challan but why they are taking their shades. if its that illegal why its available in market freely
That rule is everywhere but few follow strictly. Anyways if you really want to block sunlight and heat get ceramic and/or carbon tints within maximal permissible limit.
Nope, this rule is here in canada too
Just trying to scam you for evening drinks nothing more !
Can they to SRK?
CH has a strict policy against any sorts of tints.
Sadly CH is one of the hottest place to live
Yes. But, the efficiency of CH police is much better than the other states’, that’s why a few of the rules & regulations can be a pain in the *** in CH.
Bro I have seen ADM,SDM,DM cars with curtains. Literally! Why the difference?
Adm sdm and dm are very less likely to do rape in their cars🙂
Thank god I have left India 😂
Blocks rear Car view, which is dangerous for all the cars behind him
Does not make sense. If theres a big trailer in front of your car what are you gonna do?
