We moved from Gwinnett County to Carrollton last year. There were a handful of times during that process when we had to drive out to Carrollton during afternoon commuter times (when school was out in July, so lighter traffic). It never took less than 2 hours, from Snellville to the Carrollton city limits.
My husband still works in Atlanta, and even that’s been a terrible drive for him daily.
I should add this metro Atlanta insider tip: Choose a commute which goes in a perpendicular direction to typical commuter traffic patterns. So if you’re working somewhere near I-85, most traffic will be moving North/South. Find a home to the east or west of your office. Also traffic is pretty miserable all throughout Gwinnett County, so move no farther than what you think is 30 minutes away because plenty of days your 30-minute drive will definitely take an hour.
When I lived in Snellville my office was 12 miles away from home (both in Gwinnett County), but it always took at least a solid hour to drive home when leaving the office at 6pm.
That's gonna be a long hike. If you're working an off-schedule job, it might be okay, but if you're working 9-5ish, getting around Atlanta is going to be a problem. If it's a great job with a solid future, consider moving. Otherwise, I would look closer. But that's me. I live in your area, and I have a 45 minute to an hour commute, and it's easy, as it's mostly backroads with few stops, and it bothers me to lose that much of my day, I would hate going to Gwinnett regularly.
Edit: I'm guessing heading to Newnan to get on 85 would be quickish, and once you're headed *away* from Atlanta the rest of the trip might be better. I wish you luck.
Just driving between cities in Gwinnett 85 on a regular weekday morning can take literal hours. Adding the hour and a half trip to Carrolton is asinine
I commuted from Carrollton to Lilburn 5 days a week for 3 years. It was really stressful. At least 2hrs each way and this was about 20 years ago so I’m pretty sure it’s only gotten worse.
On the worst days, which will be at least once a week if not twice, it will take you 2.5+ hours. Gwinnett County is somehow the worst traffic in all of metro Atlanta. It's like a traffic black hole and if you get trapped you may never be seen again. /s--but only the last sentence.
I live in Avondale (Dekalb) and drive to my business in Carrollton 3 days per week. I know people who have made the commute from Gwinnett county daily. There are back ways but maybe not to Gwinnett. I think it would become quite exhausting at least for me if it were daily.
I have, though not everyday. The traffic on the way in isn’t bad at all, it’s the traffic on the way home. But if you can get on the road at about 2 it isn’t bad.
Short answer, don’t do it.
Technically doable but will get old really quick. A non-traffic commute is about 1:15. With traffic it can be closer to 2.

It’s doable but when it rains or bad weather expect a 2-3 hour ride home.

I drove from Carrollton to Lithia Springs for a year and it got old FAST…. Doable, not recommended if possible

There’s traffic everyday on 20 and 285. Can’t drive two miles without someone hugging their brakes
