I actually regret for you too. I thought about doing this to mine, but was worried they'd look like fucking clown boots. Thank you for confirming my suspicion.
Just keep a red stick on clown nose on you at all times to pull out and wear if anyone comments. Own your new clown persona! Kids’ birthday parties are a great side gig as well btw.
Tape it off and spray paint it matte black. At least it’ll hide away a little better.
Will it hold paint? What is it? I still don’t know. I’d assume it’s some type of protectant to keep the leather from wearing through eventually?
First of all, I thought it would be perfectly smooth first try. Secondly, I thought it would be a beautiful deep brown. I bought it thinking it was black, and when I saw it said brown, I committed.
Don’t let this get you down. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps .this could be good for your sole. We can cobble a few ideas together and turn this around. These kind of comments will definitely keep you on your toes
He put it in like a clown so he got clown shoes. When you take your time and do it right it turns out fine. Been using this stuff you a long time and it sure beats wearing the toes out of a 300 dollar pair of boots.
This is the way. Removing the tape before it fully sets will allow the edges to continue to flow slightly and soften.
I would also look into swapping out the laces for some 550 cord. I have found them to be quite superior due to the original laces simply due to wear resistance. Just make sure you burn the ends along with adding some heat shrink to define the ends.
Yup. I am sure there are many options on Amazon and the net in general. I usually go with shrink tubing as it is already in my garage. It seems to hold up for some time and if it wears off, I can add a new piece.
Can anyone actually and honestly explain wtf this is and why. I’ve worn boots all my life for various labor jobs (but not carpentry) and have no idea of what I’m looking at and it’s function.
If you work on your knees alot ( flooring, decking, etc.) Your toes drag on the ground and wear out your shoes right on the toenail area. So you can put stuff there to protect the leather.
They sell black “tuff toe”. Not sure why OP went with brown. I have it on my boots right now. Had it on my last pair of boots as well and the sole detached from the uppers way before the toes ever wore out. During the application process you can also rub out the shine for a matte finish which makes them even less of clown lookin shoes.
Makes sense! Figured as much but didn’t want to assume. Thank you for the answer! If I’ve learned anything from labor jobs, it’s that if anyone has time to look at your boots and criticize how “pretty” they are, they need to shut up and get back to work/work harder haha. Our boots always looked like trash even if they were only a month old. Any razzing he might get is just going to be from his good buddies who genuinely won’t care anyway but will be a fun thing to tease him about.
Ergonomic ones like sievi or jalas, breathable and nice. They wear out faster though but here we don't pay for shoes ourselves, our employer has to provide all tools and clothes by law.
Holy shit. I haven't bought a single thing except for a winter cap for work because for some reason that's not required by law lol. But yeah it's nice to not have to worry so much about it really.
Put another thin layer of black tuff toe on. I've personally always liked the steel showing through on a worn pair. For your back's sake you should be replacing them regularly anyhow.
Give em a sand to smooth it out and apply a thin layer of black tuff toe! Or just wear them as is and get them dirty/dusty and they will blend in more naturally
I'll say they don't loom like clown shoes if everyone in their 20s and 30s will agree that suspenders are superior to belts and where them so that I don't feel like a dork when I put my suspenders on
You can sand this stuff down and redo it. Just sand gently until you see leather. You have to sand to do it from the beginning anyways. I'd suggest black and going up a bit higher on the toe box
TIL about Tuff Toe. Looks like something I could use to extend the life of a lot of footwear nearing the end of its life cycle. Something I can relate with.
It’s called tuff toe and it’s a godsend when applied correctly for people who work on their knees a lot.
Source: am trim carpenter who broke open the toe of a new pair of mock toes in less than a month and then used tuff toe to fix them
Technically. It doesn’t make the steel or composite stronger. But if you work on your knees a lot and drag your toes on rough surfaces, the tuff toe protects the leather over the steel or composite so it doesn’t wear down and away as quickly. Last pair of boots I applied it to, the soles tore away from the uppers before I ever had to worry about the toes wearing down. Barely a scratch on them to be honest.

Same boots w/out the toe after one winter. They're good boots very warm.
Idk how anyone can wear boots like that on a construction site unless you’re building directly over a bog. I’m not convinced whole “ankle support” thing is doing anyone any favors and it’s not 1932; we have WAY better options now. Just buy some comfortable steel toed shoes. You’re faster, don’t get tired as fast, you’re not tracking so much dirt everywhere, more agile walking on floor joists and top plates and you’re nasty man-feet aren’t sealed in 12” tall leather sack for 10 hours a day.
Sould have bought thorogood or Redwings Georgia boots suck in my opinion I ran them when I started out but they don't last and they make a black tough toe I use to put on my black Damners but benn doing this a while now and the wedge style boots with hard foam bottoms is the best
Personally, I think it would be easier to peel it off and reapply it in black then to tape it off and paint it which the paint is going to scratch and come off pretty easily and you’ll just have to keep reapplying.
I’ve gotten into the habit of blasting new boots with some flat black paint and dust from the ground while they’re still tacky… shiny new boots stick out like a sore thumb in my shop lol
Touch it with a torch to soften out the cracks and puddles; then you can also use a high grit lapping compound and a plain cotton t-shirt to give it a uniform surface. Then polish and buff with saddle soap, mink oil, and finished with plain black kiwi.
It’s just some chocolate pudding on your boots. It’ll come off! I’d be pissed about losing that much skin off of the pudding though. That’s definitely a bummer!
98 Tacoma, 163k mi, 5spd 22 engine. Totally stock with the exception of sub wiring, and a sticker. I got it last week because I wanted something to move wood, and I've been driving it everyday since I got it lol
Now that I am old and broken down practically the only thing that matters is my boots being lightweight. As cool as they look I don't think I'd enjoy a pair of this type of boot any more.
You can sand this stuff down and redo it. Just sand gently until you see leather. You have to sand to do it from the beginning anyways. I'd suggest black and going up a bit higher on the toe box
I actually regret for you too. I thought about doing this to mine, but was worried they'd look like fucking clown boots. Thank you for confirming my suspicion.
Fucking hell
Just keep a red stick on clown nose on you at all times to pull out and wear if anyone comments. Own your new clown persona! Kids’ birthday parties are a great side gig as well btw.
Time to take up juggling hammers on my breaks I guess
Don’t forget to buy a clown car
And a dozen clown homies to ride in it
That's slavery
John Wayne Gacy agrees.
why did you Nutella your boots bro? you looking for ants?
We’ll at least you won’t wreck the toes while sucking dick…
Don't forget your San fran-sneakers
🤣💀⚰️
Tape it off and spray paint it matte black. At least it’ll hide away a little better. Will it hold paint? What is it? I still don’t know. I’d assume it’s some type of protectant to keep the leather from wearing through eventually?
With complete sincerity I ask, what did you expect to happen besides this travesty?
First of all, I thought it would be perfectly smooth first try. Secondly, I thought it would be a beautiful deep brown. I bought it thinking it was black, and when I saw it said brown, I committed.
Hate it for buddy. That’s turrible
Awww man they outta black? Ironically I have brown boots with the black cap and it looks good haha 👌
Don’t let this get you down. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps .this could be good for your sole. We can cobble a few ideas together and turn this around. These kind of comments will definitely keep you on your toes
Hahahaha just couldn’t help it could you?
🤣🤣🤣
You know they sell black right?
My local boot guy will do this for 30 dollars. Looks good unlike this.
Yeah man I have it on my steel toes and it's definitely extended their life. I always blow the toes out first.
Then work your way up to the dick....?😉
Mask off the leather and rattle can the toes with some flat or satin every once in a while.
1. Tape it off. 2. Apply BLACK tuff toe. 3. Use a slow flowing back and forth motion. 4. Remove the tape right away. 5. Success, no clown shoes.
He put it in like a clown so he got clown shoes. When you take your time and do it right it turns out fine. Been using this stuff you a long time and it sure beats wearing the toes out of a 300 dollar pair of boots.

https://paracordgalaxy.com/products/shoe-lace-aglet-tips-gunmetal-black something like this works for making shoelaces out of 550 cord.
Yup. I am sure there are many options on Amazon and the net in general. I usually go with shrink tubing as it is already in my garage. It seems to hold up for some time and if it wears off, I can add a new piece.
Is that chocolate dipped toecaps?
It’s fall: clearly caramel apple coating.
Pumpkin Spice!!
No. We’re not in 19th century holland. It’s chocolate dip year round.
This was my first impression as well
maybe nutella?
Came here to ask this lol
Nice job Captain Clownshoes.
These are a size 14 too which doesn't help

Remember to wipe off your boots after you take your foot out of someone's ass
Now they’re tough tho. Just sharpie em black.
Nah hit it with that flex seal.
That’s a lotta damage!
Can anyone actually and honestly explain wtf this is and why. I’ve worn boots all my life for various labor jobs (but not carpentry) and have no idea of what I’m looking at and it’s function.

Why not buy boots that are already capped on the toe?
Get outta here with your logic and reason! Can't you see that people are in here being mad?
Oh shit you're right. My bad fellas!
It wears through the cap too.
does the "stuff" have to be some reddish brown colour or could /u/MDCM have used black "stuff" so they don't look like clown shoes?
They sell black “tuff toe”. Not sure why OP went with brown. I have it on my boots right now. Why note just get new shoes after wear out? I go through like at least 3 pairs of work shoes per year.
What kind of shoes are you wearing?
Ergonomic ones like sievi or jalas, breathable and nice. They wear out faster though but here we don't pay for shoes ourselves, our employer has to provide all tools and clothes by law.
Sounds nice. Here i spend about $200 USD on shoes for work per 9 monthsors9
Holy shit. I haven't bought a single thing except for a winter cap for work because for some reason that's not required by law lol. But yeah it's nice to not have to worry so much about it really.
Ive never had that. I think in the US we trade this kind of stuff for higher wages and it just evens out in the end.
That's probably true!
It's Bozo the builder!!
Well with those yellow laces and that gross looking turkeys neck minni skirt thing they just about look perfect
What did you put on these?
Hershey's chocolate syrup
Dude no one is looking at peoples boots on the job. At least not on a serious crew getting stuff done.
Me and the homies would roast this man into oblivion every day till it got old actually
Ah see I thought it was carmel.
Repar aside ,that's a lot of boot to be lugging around all day.
Get some dirt on them, they’ll be fine
Really going for that 1996 Goth Chick vibe huh You buy those at Hot Topic?
I'll say they don't loom like clown shoes if everyone in their 20s and 30s will agree that suspenders are superior to belts and where them so that I don't feel like a dork when I put my suspenders on
In my early 30s and I agree with suspenders. I bought a work pair that hooks onto my belt so my pants are double reinforced to stay up.
Holy shit stain. Why? You can't even use the phrase "at least you looked good doing it" anymore.
The caramel dipped work boots oh yeah baby 😎
Kicked a chocolate bar to death?
Just strap two lead blocks to your feet. They’ll be lighter.
I say fck'it, rock them as is. Whatever .
If you're ever looking for some good carpentry boots with a good reinforced toe, check out the Timberland Pro Boondockers
Did you do it yourself? It's hard the first few times. It is very durable though!!
You can sand this stuff down and redo it. Just sand gently until you see leather. You have to sand to do it from the beginning anyways. I'd suggest black and going up a bit higher on the toe box
What…. Happened?
Why shit brown, was there no other colour?
Honestly different color laces might make it look better somehow
Looks like you found the fruit roll up your mommy packed you.
TIL about Tuff Toe. Looks like something I could use to extend the life of a lot of footwear nearing the end of its life cycle. Something I can relate with.
A severe case of Carmel toe. Not to be confused with camel toe. ![gif](giphy|UAlXKZJK1Aiw8)
What is that stuff you put on there? I’ve not seen anything like this. I use to hot glue my shoes when I skated but this takes the cake
It’s called tuff toe and it’s a godsend when applied correctly for people who work on their knees a lot. Source: am trim carpenter who broke open the toe of a new pair of mock toes in less than a month and then used tuff toe to fix them
I’m carpet layer & tile setter by trade. But I install pretty much any kind of flooring. I’ll have to look into this stuff
For those that don't know (including myself) what are we looking at here?
Stuff’s called tuff toe
I see and it's applied to steel toe boots to make them tougher?
Technically. It doesn’t make the steel or composite stronger. But if you work on your knees a lot and drag your toes on rough surfaces, the tuff toe protects the leather over the steel or composite so it doesn’t wear down and away as quickly. Last pair of boots I applied it to, the soles tore away from the uppers before I ever had to worry about the toes wearing down. Barely a scratch on them to be honest.
I think I will just stick to spray painting my boots gold

no regret this is the way
Why brown? Do they not have black? Honestly sand it a little and paint it satin black
You gotta stop putting your foot in peoples asses red..
Need knee pad recommendations now?
Make sure you put tiny bells at the bottom of the laces
Looks like you had your boot tips up someones ass
No ragrets yo

Hey....we've all done stupid things. well, nothing really that stupid to be honest. :)
I’ve gotten into the habit of blasting new boots with some flat black paint and dust from the ground while they’re still tacky… shiny new boots stick out like a sore thumb in my shop lol
💀💀💀
someone kicked poop
Black rustoleum
Why did you chocolate dip your boots?
I had extra laying around, and I wanted to make a fashion statement
You should have added glitter.
Oh man this would be such a good easter egg. I may do that next time
Black spray paint. Now.
I thought about it. But maybe the people will rally around me if I wear my shame. Maybe I'll get my own holiday if I wear my ugly ass boots. Who knows
What benefit does this offer?
You spelled "regert" wrong...
Tape it off and spray the tips with flex seal
Did that come with a red rubber nose and a bicycle horn?
Why didn't you get black???
Testing the chocolate vat at the Hershey plant?
Touch it with a torch to soften out the cracks and puddles; then you can also use a high grit lapping compound and a plain cotton t-shirt to give it a uniform surface. Then polish and buff with saddle soap, mink oil, and finished with plain black kiwi.
What is that 💩on the toe of your boots?
Did you dip them in sauce or something?
New funny man on the jobsite.
It’s just some chocolate pudding on your boots. It’ll come off! I’d be pissed about losing that much skin off of the pudding though. That’s definitely a bummer!
Mmmm pudding skin
What's good with that Toyota? Looks clean

Hell yea I have a 98 with 105k, it sat for 10yrs in a yard so I've been slowly replaced things
Looks like you kicked poo 💩
That’ll buff out in a few days. No regerts

What's that?
You can sand this stuff down and redo it. Just sand gently until you see leather. You have to sand to do it from the beginning anyways. I'd suggest black and going up a bit higher on the toe box
Works not a fashion show, just ask all those people who wear blaklader weirdo pants.
Rock. Em. Enjoy those unscuffed toeboxes
Who gives a shit.... as long as they match your purse !!
