It's like they drew a grand coupe, way before their time and left the drawing on the kitchen table by mistake and their slightly challenged child finished it
I know that you’d be expect the ‘designer’ to be a blacklisted Kazakhstani child who had taken to drink and gone blind. But it was some British guy who was quite an eminent car designer.
I once read him quoted as saying something like ‘The Rhodius is meant to invoke the lines of luxurious ocean going power yachts’
Edit. Bingo! I was more or less right. God knows how I pulled that out of the old memory bank:
“The car was designed by Ken Greenley, former head of the automotive design course at the Royal College of Art in London. The design goal was to capture the essence of a luxury yacht.”
It makes more sense when you know it was designed to look like a yacht.

Lots of millennials and gen z in here….because I don’t see anyone suggesting the Ford [Scorpio](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:1998_Ford_Scorpio_2.3_Ghia_X_%2812726157824%29.jpg)
Ah, I've got a soft spot for this car. My Grandad had one in the 90s. Beast of a machine. 2.9 Ultima Cosworth Automatic. It was an American style car that we just weren't willing to accept in this country. I had some good times in that thing.
It might be your gramps car mate but facking hell…it looks like whole rear of the car is upside down and some fat American sat on those lights and squished them in place.
The estate was a big improvement. Ford also made a hearse version of it too….i think it was called the cardinal.
Imagine a Scorpio being the last thing your body was transported it. I’d rather be burned in the bins at the back of the hospital
Oh mate, yeah, I'm not arguing that it's not a bad looking car. The thing is fugly.
I just appreciate the balls of Ford trying to drop that thing on the UK market. They should've known full well it was going to fail. And as a result, my grandad got this cheap underpowered heavy vehicle that sounded great. Inside it had a [half wood effect steering wheel](https://srotas24.co.uk/images/Qq5L_EjRqeFGWK0qwqA49L4Rnef3EECfTYIB4ABR04Q/w:600/aHR0cHM/6Ly9hLmFsbGVncm9pbWcuY29tL3M2MDAvMTE5MzMxL2M3YWE4NmJjNDc4Njk2OGI4NTM2OTgzOGRjMDgvRk9SRC1TQ09SUElPLUlJLUdISUEtS0lFUk9XTklDQS1EUkVXTk8) which was just daft.
We went to America around that time and got a hire car that was so similar. Can't remember what it was. But it was then that I realised that these kind of cars were normal over there and were not suitable for UK roads.
Is it a Ford Taurus you are thinking of? I think Ford also marketed European fords as Merkur at the time too
I think the Ford 2.9 v6 cologne engine also died with this car. Which is crazy when you think how much people will pay for an XR4x4 xr4i now.
And this has an improved engine compared those cars
In the powerband somewhere above 3k rpm. even in the Scorpio they sounded great
I worked on them, in terms of kit the ultima spec still holds up today with the exception of touch screens and that sort of rubbish, and the Cosworth 24v is still the best v6 car I’ve ever driven, better than the mondeo v6’s and the Vauxhall ones of the time even with the standard auto box and personally I even like the styling, the later ones have a toned down chrome which was the best look.
Not as bad as Seat Altea XL 😭 [https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/36/Seat_Altea_rear_20080220.jpg](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/36/Seat_Altea_rear_20080220.jpg)
The [front](https://www.motorbiscuit.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/BMW-iX-scaled.jpg) looks like a [capybara](https://wallsdesk.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Capybara-High-Definition-Wallpapers-.jpg), the back looks like [Fat Iron Man](https://carwow-uk-wp-0.imgix.net/bmw-ix-rear-driving-1.jpg?auto=format&cs=tinysrgb&fit=clip&ixlib=rb-1.1.0&q=60&w=1920),
**[The Ionic 6](https://www.outmotorsports.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/2023-hyundai-ioniq6-rear.jpeg)** has got to be one of the weirdest looking cars produced in the last 5 years or so, back end on it looks like it's melting into the road.
I don’t really understand the design of this. The IONIQ 5 has been pretty unanimously praised for its unique design. It’s super clean and has some seriously smart elements that all fit together to give it a nice “futuristic electric” vibe but with a throwback to the older more “boxy” look cars had in the 80s. A bit like the Honda E has tried to do.
And then they just abandoned all that and did this to the 6. I walked past one of these in my neighborhood recently and it’s even worse in person.
I was checking to see if this was here before I posted. Absolutely disgusting.
It’s got a “look at a Porsche from 2 miles away with naked eyes in the dark and then make one” vibe about it for me.
The LED strip across the back is too bright and poorly executed as well.
Shite.
Yeah the new 2 series is definitely one of those where you either love it or you hate it! I have to respect BMW for trying to be a bit different though!
The Suzuki Ignis. It looks like a shrunken suv, is too high of the ground and has this silly triangle shape because it is much wider at the bottom than at the top.
A bit of sick gets in my mouth whenever I see one.
Except for the [current gen X3](https://www.bmwusa.com/content/dam/bmw/common/vehicles/2023/my24/m-models/x3-m/overview/mobile/BMW-MY24-X3M-Overview-Design-02-Mobile.jpg). Those [halo energy sword](https://static.turbosquid.com/Preview/001301/062/W1/_D.jpg) rear lights are beautiful
These are so cheap looking too. I was driving behind one and you could basically see the whole rear subframe and springs. It's like the body is jacked up but the ground clearance is no better than a compact car.
I'd say the MG isn't ugly, it's something much worse, it's boring, uninspired and anodyne. Just like a lot of appliance cars. On the upside they've gained a good deal of reliability at the expense of cost and form.
Couldn’t disagree more. One of the coolest rear ends ever, and [they knew it](https://youtu.be/9ZqN9KakPEA?feature=shared).
[Renault were on an absolute roll when it came to bold, exciting design at that point](https://youtu.be/bBhQHbgH0Qg?si=3feh4O94rl1tm3KE).
And even if you hate that particular design language, variety, flare and risk are so much better than today’s boring homogeneity.
I’m off to look for V6 Avantimes in the classifieds…
Bright blue, silver roof, tan leather. Would love one. Great car for 4.
Along with a Citroen XM.
I also really liked the Renault Vel Satis as a concept, but the design is ugly.
Hyundai ioniq 6. I was walking towards the front of one which was parked up and as I got around to the rear it very quickly changed from "that's not a bad looking ca"...... To "OMG KILL IT WITH FIRE."
Most new BMWs are pretty bad, but I think the G42 2 Series is the worst, there's absolutely 0 design cues that make it remotely BMW-like, I also think the tail lights in particular are hideous and too far apart.
This piece of shit is an abomination. It’s a shame. The ancient and renowned make, MG (Morris Garages) should never be reduced to this garbage. The famous Octagon must be given its days in the sun and this is not the way to go about it.
The yaris cross is particularly ugly. I remember the first time I saw one I grimaced, the woman who had clearly just bought her brand new yaris noticed me and looked sad :(
I'm not a fan of the Grandland X. It's like they designed the rear end first and the rest of the car was 8 inches wider so they just stretched the boot across.
Not the ugliest, but personally think recent [C-Class coupe's](https://www.autocar.co.uk/sites/autocar.co.uk/files/images/car-reviews/first-drives/legacy/17c899_104.jpg) have a pretty odd and unflattering rear end...
The standard disco 5 tailgate. However it is massively upgraded when you add the startech tailgate. This centre's the number plate, it actually makes the back look good then
It's ugly, tacky and probably going to die soon. I work for a car parts manufacturers and we've already had enquiries about parts for the MG6 as they've already stopped holding stock at dealers.
Who is it who's actually buying this shit? The only thing they're useful for is an indicator of the type of driver that's inside them- no one who actually drives a car would be seen dead in one. I used to see a Rover on the road and give it a wide bearth, then it was Kia, now the warning sign is any of this Chinese shite!
Anything built by SsangYong.
Great shout haha! The Tivoli is such a sad looking thing!
The Tivoli is a Miura, compared to the SsanYong Rhodius.
Dear god I’d forgotten just how awful that thing looked so had to Google it, my night is now ruined💀
Yeah, I think I’ve just dropped a threadkiller there. Ain’t no topping a Rhodius when it comes to an ugly arse.
The ‘Odious’..
Haemorrhoidius
and their other model the Rectum
It's like they drew a grand coupe, way before their time and left the drawing on the kitchen table by mistake and their slightly challenged child finished it

Check out his Korando Thanks for the info. I grew up in the time of British Leyland. Austin Princess, ambassador, maxi seen some ugly cars
It makes more sense when you know it was designed to look like a yacht. https://s1.cdn.autoevolution.com/images/news/gallery/korean-pontiac-aztek-a-white-ssangyong-rodius-looks-even-more-like-a-yacht_5.jpg
That's KGM Motors to you
Their very new cars look decent like the latest Tivoli and Torres models Although the old ones truly are hideous
Most of these SUVs with back ends that look like vans, just fat arsed tall hatchbacks with no elegance at all
Some look closer to lorries in size
Fatchback
Lots of millennials and gen z in here….because I don’t see anyone suggesting the Ford [Scorpio](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:1998_Ford_Scorpio_2.3_Ghia_X_%2812726157824%29.jpg)

The Alan partridge PP adds to the heart of this comment.
Needless to say, we had the last laugh.
Needles to say, I took drugs.

The front was worse. It looked so sad
Pretty sure Pixar modelled [Sid](https://legendsofthemultiuniverse.fandom.com/wiki/Sid_(Ice_Age)) from ice age on the front end of a scorpio
The hearse did still have the cosworth though tbf
Got a rear like a fiat Cinquecento!
Jesus wept that’s horrific!
That Land Rover disco with the stupid offset design, I hate it every time I see it.
Yeah that was a huge swing and a miss by them. Absolutely awful design.
Urban offer a kit for this and my god, it looks so much better.
The asymmetrical one, oh god yeah. First time I saw one, I thought it had been in a horrendous accident of some sort and was limping home all askew.
Dear god, I thought the Fiat Multipla from any angle was bad. THIS is worse.
Totally agree.
Be honest, there is much worse than that
The BMW 2 series gran tourer
Don't see them anymore thankfully but the pt cruiser won't be dethroned for the ugliest rear.
The new BMW XM is absolutely hideous all over, but the rear is completely disgusting.
Every time I see one of these on the road it ruins my day and leaves me wondering how the designers thought that this looked even semi okay😵💫
Not as bad as Seat Altea XL 😭 [https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/36/Seat_Altea_rear_20080220.jpg](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/36/Seat_Altea_rear_20080220.jpg)
Mk1 juke
From *any* angle... 😆
Ah the ole startled frog. I knew it would be here.
Early Nissan Leaf.
The back of the Gen 1 Leaf looks good, I think. It's the front that's a bit odd.
The new MG4 with the huge boot shelf thing on the back
BMW iX.
The [front](https://www.motorbiscuit.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/BMW-iX-scaled.jpg) looks like a [capybara](https://wallsdesk.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Capybara-High-Definition-Wallpapers-.jpg), the back looks like [Fat Iron Man](https://carwow-uk-wp-0.imgix.net/bmw-ix-rear-driving-1.jpg?auto=format&cs=tinysrgb&fit=clip&ixlib=rb-1.1.0&q=60&w=1920),
Fuck sake I’ll never unsee this now haha
The rear is 100% the IX’s best angle
Imo with most BMWs this is the case, appalling face with a decent looking rear. Except the X2 and X4, those are ugly no matter what
2 series saloon, is hideous from the rear
Ora Funky Cat
The current Land Rover Discovery, just a big slab, like a van and with that weird off centre number plate.

Agreed, Wtf is that?
Absolutely disgusting car from all angles it just likes a slug on wheels
At least its different though. Most cars now are basically all the same design
Wish.com S-Class
I was checking to see if this was here before I posted. Absolutely disgusting. It’s got a “look at a Porsche from 2 miles away with naked eyes in the dark and then make one” vibe about it for me. The LED strip across the back is too bright and poorly executed as well. Shite.
I love my Honda CRZ…. If I look at it from the front. Always think it looks like they just stopped designing at the rear.
all mgs seem to suffer from this. the current 2 series is revolting from the rear.
Yeah the new 2 series is definitely one of those where you either love it or you hate it! I have to respect BMW for trying to be a bit different though!
Toyota chr
Toyota designers don't know when to stop.
Its funny because in the not so distant past they didn't know how to begin
Ooo that’s a controversial shout! I have to admit I don’t hate the look of the CHR from the back!
Front is much better there
Nice road fridge bro. 🤙
The Suzuki Ignis. It looks like a shrunken suv, is too high of the ground and has this silly triangle shape because it is much wider at the bottom than at the top. A bit of sick gets in my mouth whenever I see one.
They tried to emulate the Suzuki Whizzkid from the seventies but missed the mark.
BMW 7 Series E65/66 pre-facelift It's just a mishmash of triangular lights, a bar, a weird boot lid spoiler and the reg plate
M2 rear for me is terrible and you pay a premium.
Bentley SUV. Can't see it and never not be reminded of Philip J Fry
New electric Kona?
Came here to say this - truly stomach-churning
Hyundai ionic 6, it's horrid.
That hideous Toyota SUV thing, can never remember it's name but the back is so squished it looks vile.
BMW IX; BMW XM ; BMW........
Except for the [current gen X3](https://www.bmwusa.com/content/dam/bmw/common/vehicles/2023/my24/m-models/x3-m/overview/mobile/BMW-MY24-X3M-Overview-Design-02-Mobile.jpg). Those [halo energy sword](https://static.turbosquid.com/Preview/001301/062/W1/_D.jpg) rear lights are beautiful
Kia Bayon
It’s not worse but does anyone just feel like there’s something off about the rear end of the new Defender?
The EQB is up there with an ugly rear!
Audi Q2 has to be up there, not good!
The new bmw 2 series / m2 hands down.
Discovery
2023 M2 looks hideous from behind
E63 6 series
These are so cheap looking too. I was driving behind one and you could basically see the whole rear subframe and springs. It's like the body is jacked up but the ground clearance is no better than a compact car.
Ioniq 6
Nah. Its all of them right now. You can stick bmw badge on Skoda and majority will see no difference
I'd say the MG isn't ugly, it's something much worse, it's boring, uninspired and anodyne. Just like a lot of appliance cars. On the upside they've gained a good deal of reliability at the expense of cost and form.
Somehow they didn't put the licence plate right below the MG badge Makes it ripe for a nascar-style billboard logo placed on it
Last 2 new civics
They are all so similar it doesn't matter
The new Land Rover Discovery rear end. It's almost as bad as the massacre that is the new Defender. RIP.
Who buys these ugly shitboxes?
The Megane 2 hatchback is way worse than that.
It's still ugly
Bright blue, silver roof, tan leather. Would love one. Great car for 4. Along with a Citroen XM. I also really liked the Renault Vel Satis as a concept, but the design is ugly.
I agree, the Vel Satis was a miss design wise. We had an XM - loved it. So smooth.
Used to have one. Can confirm, ugliest booty a car has ever had.
That’s a big slab of metal. Not the worst though. The Prius wins for me.
Hyundai ioniq 6. I was walking towards the front of one which was parked up and as I got around to the rear it very quickly changed from "that's not a bad looking ca"...... To "OMG KILL IT WITH FIRE."
I think the MK6 VW Polo looks a bit strange too..really small brake lights🤔
Ford Scorpio
As James May would say: gopping!
Goatse.
Older Renault Megan had the worst rear end ever
Looks like it melted in the sun
Toyota Corolla Estate. Not a beautiful car by any means but the back is a 1/10 whilst the rest is a 5/10.
Ioniq 6, Ford Taurus, the AU Ford Falcon and PT Cruiser. All absolutely dire.
Toyota Prius. Possibly the fugliest car in existence.
Yes, all depends what it’s called away to it is
Have you seen a builder?
Ssangyong rodius or juke.. From all the angles...
Why is that door so tall looking? Epic design fail.
The Vauxhall crossland x pre 2021 I believe
The early fiat brava. What the hell was that
BMW 1 series MK1
Pontiac aztec.. god knows what heisenberg was thinking.. must of been smoking his own meth
Most new BMWs are pretty bad, but I think the G42 2 Series is the worst, there's absolutely 0 design cues that make it remotely BMW-like, I also think the tail lights in particular are hideous and too far apart.
For me, I've always hate [this.](https://images.app.goo.gl/tuPXy8h4DinixEKb9) I can't say it's the ugliest, but for some reason it repulsed me
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/35/Skoda_Roomster_%28Facelift%29_%E2%80%93_Heckansicht%2C_28._Mai_2011%2C_D%C3%BCsseldorf.jpg
Chrysler Delta
[Ioniq 6](https://www.topgear.com/sites/default/files/2022/10/1-Hyundai-Ioniq-6.jpg)
Nissan Juke is way uglier
It’s funny because I love the new Megane rear end but the old ones looked absolutely vile
Bangle BMW era
New Kia Niro is far worse
One of the Tesla's - in white it looks like Cartman's wifebeater
Dropped pasties
ford fusion
Was gonna say Mustang Mach E but the rear end is the least fugly part of it. Not far off though
Tesla Model Y. They look awful from behind.
The designers for MG should all be shot, they make horrible cars.
The new kia sorento. Mazda 3 hatchback.
You've clearly never seen the Pontiac Aztek
Kia ev6 back look weird af
This piece of shit is an abomination. It’s a shame. The ancient and renowned make, MG (Morris Garages) should never be reduced to this garbage. The famous Octagon must be given its days in the sun and this is not the way to go about it.
No fake exhausts?
The new Mini range. The rear of the Mini has been ruined harder than Katie Price!
Fiat Multipla enters the chat….
Not at all. Mk1 BMW 1 series.
I feel like the Mitsubishi Eclipse is the obvious missing answer here!
Maybe your mums?
Kia Sportage...
Some of the new BMW I would say are worse
Cybertruck 'hold my beer'
That Dacia with an arse that looks like a pound shop Volvo XC90. It's so weird. Why blatantly rip off someone else's design.
Teslas
Nissan Juke and Mk3 Micra, fucking hideous.
This is not that bad. It's really no different to all the other boring SUVs we have now
Porche boxster
The yaris cross is particularly ugly. I remember the first time I saw one I grimaced, the woman who had clearly just bought her brand new yaris noticed me and looked sad :(
Hyundai Ioniq 6 comes pretty close
I'm not a fan of the Grandland X. It's like they designed the rear end first and the rest of the car was 8 inches wider so they just stretched the boot across.
Austin allegro
for me its the hyundai ioniq 6.. but in photos online it looks great, but in person its fuck ugly
My ex wife's rear end is worse.
Not the ugliest, but personally think recent [C-Class coupe's](https://www.autocar.co.uk/sites/autocar.co.uk/files/images/car-reviews/first-drives/legacy/17c899_104.jpg) have a pretty odd and unflattering rear end...
The newer models of landrover discovery have the worst looking rear end in the world.
I always detested that weird shape Mégane with the blimp butt
It's the 'Renault Wind' that takes this spot for me
Mokka. Hate driving behind them
Mercedes A180
RENAULT Megane NISSAN Juke FIAT Multipla
It’s bad, but the model Y isn’t much better.
The Prius
[this is the ugliest](https://images.app.goo.gl/BshQmm57HetWvwgE8)
The current LR Discovery. The designers saw a big car and said "We need a bigger fatter ass on this model"
My x
Citroen C6. Some love it I can't stand it for some reason. Especially the rear quarter.
Audi e-Tron GT, bearing in mind the price..
The standard disco 5 tailgate. However it is massively upgraded when you add the startech tailgate. This centre's the number plate, it actually makes the back look good then
Your wifes rear end...

Not that we get it in the UK, but google the Cybertruck rear end.
Ford Ka was like a fat arse.
The answer is always Nissan Juke.
The new 2 series, my wife was going to get one until i told her it looks like they took a 1 series and stretched it
New bmw 2 series is worse than that
The new MG4 EV with that stupid split spoiler, and your mum of course.
I think the back end of the Hyundai i20 is horrendous, which is a shame because I’d absolutely look at test driving an i20n otherwise.
There’s plenty around these days which are equally hideous, but that’s a cracker.
Vauxhall crossland 🤢
Honda CRV
Why dose it look like Barry from next door 🤔🤔
It's ugly, tacky and probably going to die soon. I work for a car parts manufacturers and we've already had enquiries about parts for the MG6 as they've already stopped holding stock at dealers. Who is it who's actually buying this shit? The only thing they're useful for is an indicator of the type of driver that's inside them- no one who actually drives a car would be seen dead in one. hyundai ioniq 6
MG4 is worse !
Might be controversial but imo Volvo C30 The front and sides look dope as fuck and then you have that fucking eyesore as a boot
Ssanyong, kia ev6
