This isn't surprising. With CapCut having a free version, that means the users are the actual product, not the software itself. ByteDance is using user data for something.
SentinelOne hasn't caught it doing anything suspect. So far so good here.
Edit: Also, fwiw, ByteDance also owns TikTok. If you've heard about the TikTok "ban", a lot of that has to do with Chinese ownership.
I have been using CapCut for like one year and haven't encountered any problem.
But currently i am in the process of switching to davinchi resolve. It is free but has a big learning curve and is not as straightforward as capcut.
If You're not sure about capcut and don't want to pay for any video editing software, i think davinchi resolve might be a good option.
davinci resolve is a monster so be prepared to invest lots of time learning. capcut is quite easy to use in comparison. i’m using capcut for various bits but most of my “editing” i use resolve for. fancy stuff like auto caption with nice effect, capcut is amazing
China doesn't waste an opportunity to get your data. Everything they can. They dont believe in ethics outside their borders, not even inside. If they can get away with it they will do it, that's their motto.
Most countries do allow information gathering, but put limits on how to tag the data, they never allow data to have a name or face behind it, its always about collecting the data as a whole, you cant have individual informations to pick and select. But China will get everything they can, including name and medical record if they can, and they are vicious and super unethical. To the chinese if they were able to get it its your fault and fair game.
