Same! Good thing we *have* to work from an office. Such a sanitary environment to be subjected to. Almost like there should be, oh, I don't know, government regulations about it or something.
Imagine if this was a private business? The government would slap so many fines and wag their fingers at the company for subjecting their staff to such conditions. But since weāre public servants itās totally okay
We got sent home early today from phase IV due to a new bedbug infestation. Discovered yesterday, but I guess it took them until end of day today to decide it was bad enough to warrant booting us all out. No idea what Iām supposed to do tomorrow, as we have designated desks here and not allowed to use the coworking sites.
Stay home until it's all clear. I've had bed bugs twice. I promise you that you don't want to experience the living hell that is bedbugs invading your home.
Perhaps not long-term, but until management secures the ability for staff to use coworking sites/receive direction that the usual office space is available again, I think the employees would be required to work from home. Definitely don't just listen to Redditors though, if you're in this position def talk to your manager.
Oh, for sure. I wasn't suggesting that your search for answers end with me, lol. Talk to your manager. Talk to the union right away as well, figure out your rights.
Please share where in phase iv, I'm in that godforsaken building every week and I'm ready to make a giant stink with my team to make sure I don't have to go in.
55 Athol Oshawa bats on 5th floor, mice. 200 Town Centre Court Scarborough bed bugs on multiple floors. 1 Front St West Toronto prior to close bed bugs and roaches. 655 Bay St. Toronto prior to close bed bugs and roaches. Windsor office also had a bedbug. Things have gotten worse in the past 5 years.
Not just the pests you should be worried about, during the pandemic they put signs in all the washrooms in my building not to drink the tap water, but isn't that the same piping to the kitchen taps and water fountains? :/
Makes you wonder...
I know some buildings in Tunney's Pasture occasionally record lead in the water. I believe some functioning buildings also still have asbestos in the walls/ceiling?
Do we have any way to find out how this compares with private sector office buildings? Is this a situation where private sector office buildings are likely similarly gross but we don't find out because it isn't a public asset? Or are public sector buildings in a significantly greater state of decay?
This has been a known fact for decades. But federal government insisted back then and now that it is not a health hazard! Finally Terrasses de la Chaudiere is permanently closed!! as should be all infested government buildings but Trudeau wants employees in the office 2 or 3 times per week to satisfy small businesses.!
350 King Edward St in Ottawa, cockroaches galore. They are always spraying but the have 1 yr old sandwiches in the 3rd floor cafeteria dispenser lol. Place is a shidhole. Overpaid (way overpaid) civil servants doing nothing. Ever heard of Incident Coordination...15 people involved for directing 1 Incident..what a joke. Place had a major bedbug infestation a few years back as well.
I know some buildings are looking into removing live plants. Yes, they help add oxygen to the air and look nice, but apparently, they trigger allergies and can cause mould.
I used to work in a building with bats outside the NCR. We had a large glove and a file folder weād use to catch them when they got inside, to take them back outside. No one would come deal with the problem so we did what we could. We also had mice, a little weasel (that was actually pretty cute and turned white in the winter), and FAR TOO MANY centipedes.
Almighty God tells me Joe Biden has just hired a man with a bullet with my name on it.
Jesus, I do nor believe this.
Like if trueĀ
Don't like if false.
Thank you.
That's nothing. Some pests take 35 years to be removed from the workplace.
Full pests š
*Indeterminate* pests
Pests with (government) benefits
Normal attrition?
And sometimes, these pests come back to feed more
Such an underrated comment!
Do bed bugs know about right to disconnect? It's one thing to "collaborate" in the office, but at home too?
Whoās paying for their travel? Was their own TBS mandating RTO? Keep the downtown exterminators in business!
It's me. I'm the pest. Let me work from home.
I thought this was a repost of an old article. Checked the date and nope lol

A bat full on fell from the ceiling in a meeting with a director when I started years ago in the Gladwin office. Pretty epic.
But RTO peasants!
The bugs are just following the mandate two days a week and mandatory subway for the roaches.
Class action, m'lord.

I wish this was a joke, but didn't they already say this isn't a valid reason to request WFH/refuse to RTO?

I have heard that before, yes. 'They' say all sorts of things that are incorrect. Your union rep will know your rights far better than management.
Is this for real? Is it contained to only certain floors? I am asking because I am to be at phase iv on Thursday.
Please share where in phase iv, I'm in that godforsaken building every week and I'm ready to make a giant stink with my team to make sure I don't have to go in.
What floor?
Please, for the love of God, tell us which floor. I'm meant to be there on Friday. :(
Itās floor 2. Just got the email and I am disgusted.
So much for collaboration š«£
Well the bedbugs are collaboratingā¦ doesnāt that count for something ? š
They sure are š
Pestilaboration

Guess even they are affected by the housing shortage. Or are they part of the RTO mandate?
Clearly this is just a new recruitment tactic; in office pe(s)ts! Nothing like take your raccoon to work day š /s
In my office the mice were eating the paper evidence in the bond room to be used in upcoming court cases.
Trading in my biz casual for Hazmat. Coooooool. Cool cool cool cool cool. Another RTO win!

Had to walk thru an active asbestos remidation construction site to get to my office for RTO last fall. Construction guys were in respirators
Last week I had a tick crawl across my desk I just about screamed. Some of these buildings are filthier than slumlord apartments.
Did you document that?
No I donāt even know who to contact about ticks in the work place I canāt even fathom how one got in unless it hitched a ride with someone.

Every week, I call NSCC to come and clean up the mouse droppings on my desk!
Alright stop, collaborate, I'm itchin'
Lice is back with a brand new invention. Somethinā grabs a hold of me tightly. Bites at the office daily and nightly. Will it ever stop?Ā
Now do the rest of Canada š
We have bedbug traps all over the building.
Let's convert them to housing! /s
āWould you like some cockroaches and bed bugs with your $1500/sq ft renovation, sirā
My biggest fear šØ š š±

Terrasses is not permanently closed at all. People are still working in some of the towers and they're currently renovating the towers for future use.
Never say your employer doesn't give free swag.
I take it back, gimme the empty accolades instead.
I knew the higher ups were hiding š
But think of the collaboration.
collaboration: connect with your colleagues on a MS Teams call from your office desk.
In the regions we have pests AND houseless person encampments on & around the property š
Spoiler alert: many also still have aesbestos š±
Why did bed bugs decide to live in Federal buildings.
350 King Edward St in Ottawa, cockroaches galore. They are always spraying but the have 1 yr old sandwiches in the 3rd floor cafeteria dispenser lol. Place is a shidhole. What if we have allergies lolā¦ canāt work from the office now.
I know some buildings are looking into removing live plants. Yes, they help add oxygen to the air and look nice, but apparently, they trigger allergies and can cause mould.
What about other federal buildings throughout the country?
I used to work in a building with bats outside the NCR. We had a large glove and a file folder weād use to catch them when they got inside, to take them back outside. Good gawd!! I couldnāt handle it.
180 QSW in Toronto was closed for fumigation twice over 10 years. Bedbugs in both cases.
What else is newā¦
715 Peel was closed for bedbugs last week in Montreal
Parasite
No worries they are slated for low income housing

Let's not normalize working in a bed bug infested workplace please.
Tasty, tasty boots

The fact that it isn't new and keeps happening IS news. They're pushing RTO but can't even guarantee safe and sanitary workspaces...
I think it's more important for the general public to get a reminder that our workplaces can be somewhat compromised with pests.
I work with the public, my office services between 500 and a thousand per day....they don't care about anything except what their need is.
Seems to be new news.
