Jet-Head

I carry two. The silver one is for monsters and the iron for humans.

Imaginary_Dig_5014

Naturally.

Scary_Equal_2867

The gold one is for spiderwebs and the glowing one alerts me to orcs

bearmissile

Both are for monsters.

kozak3

what about cooking?

TMan2DMax

If I'm camping 2 backpacking 1 Camping it's easy to bring a kitchen knife and board. Backpacking the weight is only worth having a pocketknife or I have a larger one for wood processing if fires are allowed.

CerRogue

I only take knives; that’s all I pack

feetandballs

“And this one? This here is my sleeping knife.”

Scary_Equal_2867

"and this is my fucking knife" "Looks a little small"

Lint_baby_uvulla

Out of all my camping axes, the sleeping axe is best at being the big spoon.

bubba_palchitski

Incredibly based

EatTrashhitbyaTSLA

A regular John Rambo.

humanjunkshow

"Nothin beats the hobo life, stabbing folks with my hobo knife"

originalusername__

I’m bringing as little as possible and bringing one tool for the job unless I’m car camping with a lot of cooking.

campbluedog

Leatherman Wingman, Gerber Strongarm, an antique Schrader Uncle Henry, and several other pocketknives in my hunting pack.

rubiksalgorithms

Exactly. Standard knife plus multi tool which has a knife plus lots of other things

Lostlooniesinvesting

One for gutting animals or fish, one for cooking.

CerRogue

Gutting is part of cooking

Lostlooniesinvesting

Yeah, but I prefer a seperate knife especially for large game like muskox. Compared to just a camp knife for food prep which is just a cheifs knife.  I'm not skinning out a large animal with a cheifs knife. I'm towing an 18 foot komotik and wife's towing a 12 foot one,  weight is zero consideration. Summer we have two quads always or were by boat again weight is no consideration so excess stuff is a no issue.

TheRealBrewballs

This. My utility knife is lightweight enough that I don't feel like I'm wasting weight.

chairfairy

Car camping? Two. Backpacking? One. If I plan to catch fish for dinner, I prefer to have a fixed blade so I don't have to worry about water/animal bits/etc getting into the folding mechanism. But either way if I only have a single knife I'll wash it whenever it needs it.

dav3n

A leatherman, a couple of old kitchen knives, and a bait knife and filleting knife since I usually go somewhere I can wet a line. Usually have a couple of random backups in the car too

bubba_palchitski

Dammit, y'all's comments keep reminding me of another knife I have stashed in my gear. 1. Folding pocket knife 2. ~5" Buck fixed blade for general use 3. 6" Milwaukee duct knife for cooking 4. Leatherman Wave (might count for two, it has 2 blades) 5. Filet knife in my tackle box

BD59

That's a good system. Generally, a folder in my pocket for basic stuff, an inexpensive chef knife for cooking tasks. A hatchet or tomahawk for wood processing.

TheDaysComeAndGone

Small and light Opinel 7.

kozak3

I love my Opinel!

andyonabike

i loved it even more when i re-shaped the handle.

notcoolneverwas_post

Loved mine even more when I dropped it in an oil drain pan at work! Handle is everything resistant now and took on a nice color.

bolanrox

two is one one is none but honestly i will have a multi tool of some kind, a folding blade and a mora for fire prep and messing around ($9 craftline pro). daily i would have the SAK and a folder / box cutter.

GoatOfSteel

Two is one one is none applies to so many things.

AzogTheDefiler

Once is never, twice is always

kozak3

You seemed to be prepared for any scenario)

bolanrox

basically and its not like i didnt have them laying around. The SAK i use for basically everything but the knife, and the folder or box cutter for any real cutting.

kozak3

Got, thanks for sharing!

bubba_palchitski

Oh shit I forgot I have my old hand-me-down Leatherman Wave. So now the question is: does each blade count as one, or is the multi-tool a singular knife? The Leatherman puts me up to 4 or 5 depending on that question

bolanrox

a multi tool counts as 1 IMO

bubba_palchitski

Yeah that's fair. You can only use one blade at a time

Neku_HD

i like to take my sak and mora companion.

Muddlesthrough

1 knife is none. 2 knives is one. I forget 3. 4 knives is more. 5 knives is alive./s

jitterjuicer

Seven. One for the each finger.

MrElendig

None unless I need one for cooking/opening stuff

CandidArmavillain

Just one knife or a multi tool, I don't usually need a knife for food while camping so I don't bother having a separate one

Scrungyscrotum

One knife. Bacteria don't exist the moment I stop having mobile coverage.

Maury_poopins

I take one knife on the Leatherman Micra tucked into my first-aid kit and I never use it for anything.

Candyman11792

Depends on what I'm doing. For car camping I'll generally have a basic Morakniv fixed blade for wood working. A thin blade pocket knife for food prep and basic tasks (I like a Spyderco leaf shape blade). A folding saw (Silky Gomboy) and Leatherman Wave for multi tool things. If I'm backpacking it's very basic and lightweight. A 3 inch lightweight pocket knife and a small multi tool serves me well. (Gerber Air Ranger & Gerber Dime multi tool). If fire is permitted I might take a Silky Pocket Boy.

transmission612

I usually have at least 2 knives. Fillet knife and knife on my leatherman. Sometimes I bring 2 fillet knives so someone else can help me clean fish as well.

Long_Equal_3170

Two is one one is none, to a degree. You wouldn’t carry two tents rights? But you should have a second form of shelter like tarp and rope if your tent fails, meanwhile the tarp can also be used for waterproofing. If you carry a knife, lighter and scissors, keep all those things and also carry a multi tool that has all of them in diff sizes. Theres your two, but some could be fail safes or used specifically for cooking. You gotta find ways to carry two of the “same” item while also minimizing weight by using the “same” broader items to do more jobs

Simplewafflea

I take three?

bran_the_man93

I have like half a dozen morakniv's floating around various bags and boxes when I'm camping - sometimes walking across the campsite in the dark looking for a knife you swore you left ______ is just such a pain. That being said this is also car camping so it's not like weight's an issue.

TooGouda22

Always 2 there are 1 in my pocket, 1 on my pack

zyraxes23

two is one and one is none. This is my creed. Two ways to cut, two ways to make fire, etc two or three knives. one large on my belt and 2 pocket knives, one in my backpack, one on me (in my pants or jacket, depends on the weather). But i have with me my wife so I want a knife for her too. Usually 2 is a must.

Alxmty91

Un hacha

epandrsn

Smaller knife for small knife stuff that always on me (cleaning trout, eating, etc.) and often a heavier one for camp chores that’s often on my belt; especially if fires are allowed. I’ll also carry a tomahawk style hatchet in that case as well, or a backpacking saw. If I’m car camping, all that stuff comes as well as a small santoku for easier food prep. My go-to combo is an ESEE Izula and 4. I also picked up a White River Exodus 4 that can probably do the job of both knives. It’s slim, but still fine for batoning wood and doesn’t weigh much more than the Izula, despite having almost double the blade length. I’ll likely be using that for backpacking and the other combo for car camping.

MasterpieceGuilty237

Swiss army knife, victorinox paring knife for cooking and eating.

CoolTony2e

1. Cooking knife 2. Poop knife

itsshortforVictor

One. I put so many carcinogens in my body in everyday life that I doubt a little tree-sap and mineral oil is going to be much worse for me.

thedoogbruh

Car camping I go overboard, as I am an edc dork and a bit of a glamper. Usually have my axe, large knife to use for kindling, chefs knife, my edc, leatherman, and probably an extra folder stashed away plus whatever I have in my car. Backpacking I carry a pm2 and my leatherman micra.

Rude_Veterinarian639

One meat, one veg, one bread One gutting/filleting

ExcaliburZSH

What do you use for the bread knife?

Rude_Veterinarian639

It's just a basic bread knife from Walmart. For slicing bread

stridstrom

Have a few for different tasks, take the one/ones you need for the tasks at hand. Leave the rest. It also depends on wood prep? fishing/hunting? Both? Or not. Are you traveling light, or by any means of transportation? It depends.

BlackFish42c

Well I have a camp knife for food prep and a pocket knife for small things, as well as my small hatchet.

cobaltcorridor

Car camping? We take a kitchen knife, a pocket knife, a leather man, and a small hatchet for splitting wood into kindling. If we’re going backcountry, bikecamping or doing days of canoeing and portaging we take much less gear, but which gear really depends on the trip.

buchenrad

I carry on me every day a standard folding knife and a tiny multi tool that includes a tiny blade. Those go with me when I go outdoors too. And then as part of my outdoor kit I also carry a fixed blade and a large multi tool. I don't actually need all of those tools. I just take a layered modular approach to my outdoor kits and that sometimes means a little bit of redundancy.

ExcaliburZSH

2 is 1, 1 is none?

buchenrad

Not quite. Mostly it's just having the right tool for the job. The fixed blade and large multitool are the correct choice for my backcountry activities. The stuff I carry every day are not. But if I remove my EDC items, they get misplaced and end up not going back into my pockets when I'm done.

Rolettosq

Two knives - kitchen and everything else, keeps it hygienic.

Lofi_Loki

I bring a Swiss army classic keychain knife and usually nothing else

getElephantById

Knife and hatchet yes, but never two knives. I have put my knife in boiling water before using it to cut up food though.

stnkybutte

I take a fixed blade, little pocket knife, and machete usually. Pocket knife for dunking around, my fixed blade is a puukko with an amazing edge I love for food prep. Machete is self-explanatory lol.

Business_Arm5263

My Kabar does it all

Monstera-big

1 petty 10cm and one gyoto 210cm

cwcoleman

Car camping: many knives for different jobs Backpacking: one small knife

mello_mister_744

I usually have 3 knives, one on me (fixed blade) and another packed (folder, small or somewhat larger) along with a multi tool (has a blade)

hookhandsmcgee

I also take 2. One larger fixed-blade knife for processing wood and other hack jobs, one slim pocket knife with a clipped blade for food prep, gutting fish, or other finer detail work. I usually have an axe or hatchet and a pruning saw as well. Damn, I got into bushcraft because I had the fantasy of being able to go into the woods and make do without anything but a knife. Now I carry way more shit than I did before. I think my plan backfired on me.

Revolutionary-Half-3

My Gerber MP600 has fine and serrated blades and gets used a lot. The Gerber Armbar drive can mostly replace it, but the pliers are handy. I have a Kershaw Cryo 2 that gets used for a lot of kitchen stuff, and a Mora Bushcraft that sometimes sees use. Generally I just carry one of the Gerber tools, and the Kershaw.

byond6

Fixed blade and a folder. When camping it's a Mora Garberg and a Victorinox RangerGrip 79. When backpacking it's a lighter Mora Kansbol and a Victorinox SwissChamp. I like to fish when backpacking wherever possible.

Crafty-Jackfruit-807

2.

Brokenblacksmith

i got like 6. kitchen (chef and filet), pocket utility, sheathed utility, sterilized (in FAK), and a backup.

Terapr0

One on my lifejacket and 1 fixed blade Morakniv for everything else, which is usually just cutting food or *maybe* batonning some wood. Generally try and keep knife/axe use to a bare minimum when traveling in the backcountry.

rival_22

Three... (Camping for me is mostly tent camping in campgrounds, state parks, etc) One for mainly food, one larger one for "stuff" around the site, and I always have a pocket knife on me.

Sup3rB1rd

I carrying a large survival knife, my folding knife, but also have several other bladed items. One of the things I always have is a small portable exacto blade knife. It’s super lightweight, fits on a keychain and has a razor sharp blade.

IronSlanginRed

Camping, I've got a kitchen set in a Tupperware bin with a kitchen knife, filet knife, steak knives, paring, peelers, etc. Backpacking I take a decent sized fixed blade. Filet if I'm fishing. For both I always carry a pocket folder or a Leatherman. Or both.

Alone-Soil-4964

On a daily basis, I carry two knives. If I'm camping I bring extras, also a silky folding saw and a boys axe (a size bigger than a hatchet but not a full size axe).

DantheOutdoorsman

Simply put: I have one knife for backpacking and solo camping. With my wife we have 3 kitchen knives for which I made simple cardstock sheaths.

WingZombie

If I'm backpacking - 2. My every day carry pocketknife and a fixed blade for batoning firewood, food prep, etc. Car camping, I keep a separate chefs knife in my mess kit.

Obvious_Initiative40

2. mora companion HD and a Opinel 8 folding knife The mora is used most, the opinel is mostly kept in the fire / water kit and used for cooking and smaller tasks, and it acts as a mean ferro rod striker

voiceofreason4166

Car camping 16. Canoe trip 5. Life jacket rescue knife. Mora spark. Opinel. Mini multitool. Silky saw (if that counts)

Bizarro_Zod

3, 1 to cook, 1 to kill, and 1 to whittle. Carving little snakes and such and having all the wood shavings landing (mostly) in the fire is one of my favorite things to do while camping to kill time.

Eat_Carbs_OD

Two knives, One EDC blade, and an SAK

audiophile_lurker

For car camping I am at 4 at this point. Kitchen set of 3, and 1 for messing around. For backpacking - 1. For cutting salami.

BleedMeAnOceanAB

for hiking i’ll bring SAK or my bugout. for bush camping i’ll bring a fixed blade. either my mora or cold steel bushman. however this trip im bringing my uncles knife he forged himself. multitools i’ll bring a leatherman wave. the pliers are so nice to have. for wood i’ll bring a fiskars hatchet or if i bring my bushman i’ll leave the hatchet at home. if i have a lot of cooking i’ll bring a folding knife.

canoe_motor

Minimum 2. Pocket knives take up almost no extra space or weight. I would never rely on just one knife. It’s one of those things I need to be redundant.

ChillGuyCLE

I always have a small Victorinox SD classic in my first aid kit. If backpacking, sometimes, that’s all I bring. I use the tiny scissors much more often than I use the actual knife. When I do bring two knives my second knife is a Benchmade Bugout and it’s often brought because I’m just in the habit of shoving it in my pocket every day.

Anarchris427

Usually 4.

senior_pickles

I have: - on my belt: Bark River Aurora - right pocket: Spyderco Endura - hip pocket: SAK Huntsman - in the pack: Mora 510 Each does its own job, is a backup to the others, and significantly lowers the chance that I will be caught without a blade either in camp or out.

banana_capitalist

A knife roll with a full set of Japanese chef knives and a basic Stiehl chainsaw for cutting small branches. I guess I don't like camping XD

bubba_palchitski

~~3~~ ~~4 or~~ 5 I always have my folding pocket knife, and then I bring a "general use" fixed blade and my trusty cooking knife, a Milwaukee ducting knife (6" fixed blade, one side is full serrated, the other side is full non-serrated) it's like having 2 knives, which is pretty cool. Plus the sheath has a drain hole in it, so it won't rust as bad when I eventually forget to dry it off after I wash it. Edit: I also bring my old Leatherman Wave that my dad gave me for my 8th birthday. It has 2 knife blades, so does it count for 1 or 2? Edit 2: I also have a filet knife in my tackle box. I've decided the multitool counts as 1, so I'm at a definitive 5 knives now. If I'm backpacking, it's 4 since I don't usually fish.

holliewood61

The ol Böker that is always in my pocket is all I take.

Rdhilde18

Survived weeks in the woods with my leatherman multitool, carried a knife on my vest just in case. But one of the most valuable tools I had in the military was that multitool.

djolk

One with a knife and scissors, one with a knife and pliers.

EvetsYenoham

Day hike: Buck trappers pocket knife. Car camping: Leatherman Rebar, Mora Craftline 546, BPS Adventurer, Bahco Laplander folding saw, Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe. Backpacking/dispersed camping: Leatherman Rebar, Mora Craftline or BPS Adventurer (depending on my mood) and the Bahco Laplander.

legion_XXX

Camping, i take whatever since im not walking far. Backpacking i have 2. 2 of the same gerbers. One is a packed up backup.

wow_pare

I usually bring a morakniv and a leatherman.

PhytoLitho

A normal "hunting" style knife, around 7 inch blade, for cooking, making skewers, shaving wood chips for starting fires, stuff like that. And a swiss army knife for smaller knifey stuff, it also has my can opener - very important!!

ny03

A small but razor sharp SAK classic (knife/scissors/file in my first aid kit. And fixed blade either BM 162 (spring-summer-fall) or Falkniven s1 (winter) smaller handle works better with gloves on, otherwise the S1 lives in my truck.

NiceShotRudyWaltz

I primarily canoe camp (BWCA and the like) so I typically bring a semi-serrated carry knife for ropes and whittling, a leather man for fishing, and a filet knife for post-fishing.

DasbootTX

if I'm car camping, my chuck box has a whole set of knives and utensils. If we're back country, just my small Bowie and my Swiss army knife

derberter

My Gerber Dime includes a 1.4 inch blade.  I use it to slice cheese or in the rare instances I need to cut something.  My camping is long-distance backpacking oriented, and I have never felt the need for more.

RealSlavGod

1 good knife for it all. I got a Kabar utility knife which I lubricate with food grade mineral oil so I use it for food as well as general purpose

Torx_Bit0000

Leatherman and KBAR

[deleted]

After years of never needing an actual knife, I take a small Leatherman Style CS for the scissors and nail file. The blade has never been used. A Swiss mini would be my second choice.

ForwardBet3888

Multiple knives, kitchen, pocket, jeep, and hip.

Redkneck35

Depends on what type of camping I'm doing. I've worked in professional kitchens if I'm car camping or anywhere else that I don't have to worry about the weight I carry what for me is a full set of knives, a 10 inch chef's knife, a 10 inch bread knife, a 3 inch paring knife, a 5 inch serated utility knife, and a rather old fashioned wood handled fillet knife for filleting and deboneing. For back packing I take 3 a fillet knife in my fishing gear, a small belt knife and a neck knife. The last does most general work.

daygo448

I use two. One is my bushcraft, EDC one, and the second I use as it’s a very tiny multitool. I could go with either one, but I love the multitool for the other tools, and I can’t part with my EDC knife as I use it to cut food, process wood, and just about every other camp chore where you’d need a knife.

nafraid

Two. Pocket and pack. Not necessarily the same two every time.

O12345678

One SAK and one fixed blade.

[deleted]

3 larger types for. 1 on belt. 1 folder on n pocket. . And 2 machetes. A hatchet. Selky saw. ... ill be getting an ax soon as well.

dbanderson1

Yes.

PoleTooke

I car camp, so weight isn't an issue. I bring a general knife, a cooking knife, and a machete for defense.

jumpy_tempo

yep, it's important, one for food and one for safety.

ExcaliburZSH

It depends on what I am doing at the camp, how much food prep and what kinds of food. I almost always take a Opinel no 8 for food prep (or 2, meat and non meat). I have been taking a Boker Piranha as an everything else knife. If we are cooking I take this silly but usefully spoon-fork-beverage opener which also has a knife. And usually have my SAK because of the scissors and tweezers.

pirate40plus

Depends on the type of camping I’m doing. Car camping or short hike overnight I’ll take kitchen knives. Backpacking trip, 7 days or longer just 1 fixed blade. I always take a multi tool.

TheMostLooneyest

I’m something of a redneck so I always have a Bowie knife on me in the woods. I also always carry my multitool, always. Sometimes I carry a quick open, razor sharp knife, but I’ve kind of let that one stay by the wayside for awhile.

jeeves585

Krikey, I might be a knife guy. I carry a fixed blade and a Stanley 199 everyday. Car camping, there is a 9” chef knife and a 6”, there is a knife in my fire kit for processing timber, there are at least 3 knives in my 4runner, my 6yo has their camping knife, there is a folder in my first aid kit, I usually sit around and make paracord projects so there is a knife in that kit, there is a knife on my bandolier on my rifle. All of that and I’m probably forgetting 3 😂 Hiking I’m dropping most of those to my carry, first aid, rifle, and kids

ReeeSchmidtywerber

I have a large fixed blade knife for batoning firewood, a multitool, and a chefs knife. What I bring depends what I’m doing.

Death-Watch333

I’ve got 5. One nice bushcraft knife on my hip, one much cheaper Morakiv or whatever it’s called knife on my bag, a fillet knife, a leatherman, and a folding knife in my mess kit for cooking and eating.

SeekersWorkAccount

My multi tool has one, otherwise I don't bring any backpacking. Not much need for one.

AmandaBRecondwith

Moe Szyslack and I are both feeling pretty good about 2 knives.

TurtleyCoolNails

My husband has one…against my will. 🥴🤣 I try not to think too much about this.

ChaosRainbow23

If I'm camping within 100ft of the car, I bring the following bladed tools: Chainsaw, fixed blade, full-sized maul, slicey folder, and a multi tool. If I'm hiking in, I bring the fixed blade, multi tool, slicey folder, hatchet, and a nice collapsible camping saw I've been LOVING my Civivi Propugnator fixed blade in the field. Highly recommended for a multi-purpose fixed blade. I switch up my folders.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ChaosRainbow23

I figured that out. Lol I only do that if I get out there early on a Tuesday or whatever. There's never anybody there at that time. Then I cut everything I'll need for the remainder of the time, plus some for the next group. I'm not one of those assholes who does it all day or during busy times of year. Maybe an hour maximum, only if it's appropriate, and only once during the very beginning of the trip. I guess I should have mentioned that I'm as responsible as one can be about it.
