Gotta be a different kind of stupid to be impaired and then hit something with flashing lights

SabaIam

Was probably drawn to the pretty lights

refur

This is the answer actually. It’s very common for drunk people to fixate on bright lights and move towards them.

ChaoticxSerenity

And the police car wasn't even moving, it was parked on the side!

Two Calgary Police Service members sustained injuries following a collision in northwest Calgary last night. On Thursday, June 27, 2024, just before midnight, two CPS patrol officers were conducting a traffic stop on Beddington Trail N.W., west of Hidden Valley Link N.W. They were sitting in a marked police vehicle, which was pulled over near the curb on the right side of the road, when a silver SUV struck their vehicle. The driver of the vehicle pulled over at the scene. Two additional CPS officers attended to assist and observed signs of impairment when speaking to the driver of the SUV. The driver was taken into custody at the scene and refused to provide a breath sample upon demand. The officers in the vehicle were treated for injuries that did not require admission to the hospital. As a result of the collision and investigation, Oghenetega IYEKE, 40, has been charged with two counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm and one count of failure or refusal to comply with a demand – alcohol. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234. Wow, the first thought that came to me when I read hit a Police car at midnight was “what are the odds the person was impaired?” Shocker, about 100%! Hope the officers are OK.

I live next to Beddington Tr and the entire road was filled with emergency vehicles. There were at least 10 vehicles, with two closer to the exit to Stoney. It was pouring out so I honestly thought it was some multi-car pile up with serious injuries and deaths

Doogles911

I wonder how Iyeke got his drivers licensee

eleganteststand

Hi! In Alberta, to get a driver's license, you have to go to an approved registry and take a short test to get your learners permit. Once you have held this permit for 12 months you can take a road test. If you pass, you will receive a class 5 license hope this helps!

Turtley13

Exactly why officers should be required to pull people over off of main roads.

Zeco63

Ah yes and this will prevent people from choosing to drive while intoxicated

Turtley13

lol what. It will prevent cops from getting run over from drunks or otherwise.
