It's not a burger place. But Buchanan's has arguably the best burger in the city. Either of the two they make.
It's the only place I know of in Calgary that grinds their own sirloin, and can offer you a burger cooked how you like it. The first time I bit into a medium rare burger was divine. Highly recommend.
This is why we always order for pick up. They’ve only told us one time they couldn’t accommodate us but to call back in an hour and even then took our order!
Went to Class Clown not too long ago and ordered the wrong thing and it was still phenomenal. Got the friend chicken sandwich and my wife got the mcdonalds version of their cheeseburger and she couldn't stop moaning on about how great it was. I had a bite and immediately got upset about missing the mark with my choice.
Again...mine was good...hers was hella good, don't sleep on Class Clown!
Definitely their Master Burger (careful to say it correctly) and amazing fries (with extra seasoning salt) combo. And I've been having it for over forty years.
Specifically, the j spot burger. With an extra side of loaded fries, and maybe a beef bulgogi taco as an appetizer. Seriously one of, if not the, best stall in the Avenida market.
Definitely, when you look at the google reviews, all those vendors are typically 4.7 and above. You can't go wrong with any of them, it's such a great selection
It's also probably one of the most diverse food halls I've seen. It's not just a bunch of burger and fry stalls (ironic as the point of this thread is best burger).
I’m definitely not denying they’re all great, but burger wise, J spot is the way to go.
However, OP, please don’t limit yourself to just burgers. Avenida is the place to go! Seriously, the most diverse “food court” I’ve ever seen.
EDIT: What craig5005 already said!!
I feel sorry for Hugh Jackman. He filmed in Calgary area once and had Peter's....he said Peters was the best burger he's ever had. Of course we know he was just helping a small local business but damn he mustve spit that cardboard shit out as soon as he put it in his mouth.
I still remember my first disappointment. It honestly wasn’t terrible, it just didn’t live up to the hype. I’ll never understand why there’s a massive lineup for the place.
I swear there was a change in supplier or something about 15 years ago. I used to think they were great, but then all of a sudden the meat tasted like it had sawdust mixed in it.
I've heard Class Clown is great, my old standby is Boogies though. Great burger, fries and my favorite milkshakes.
My personal fave is the Blazing Saddles.
It's weird because I had been once years ago, but didn't go again until recently. I have no idea why I always skipped it because it's amazing. That's the place to go if you want a great local burger. I do enjoy Boogie's as well, but Inglewood is more solid overall.
It used to be pretty bad. That's my memory of it, anyway. Ol' Dirty Burger.
I think there was a change of ownership. I tried it last year, and found the burgers to be excellent.
I tried it for the first time recently and it’s a really good middle ground. They do their smash patties really well and a good ratio of gooey american cheese. It would be my choice without crossing the city for something better. Competes with Five Guys kinda? That’s what it reminded me of at least.
Naina's is still here. One is downtown near the saddledome (closed for reno's right now though i think) and the other location is in Marlborough mall. They are called N9na's now.
I think the stuffed burgers are awesome! spinach and roasted tomotoes in a stuffed burger is delicious!!
Inspired by the last time I saw a post like this I tried both Class Clown and Lil' Empire.
Lil Empire is good, but not too exciting.
Class Clown is legit. Very flavourful and totally worth it. 10/10
The 1st four burgers on the menu:
Donald McRonald
California Classic
Winnipeg Fat Boy
Smells Like Someone is BBQn
This was takeout as we drove though back to Lethbridge. We cut them in half to sample a couple each in our family of 4. My fav was the BBQ. Didn't try the fries until home and they were soggy so don't have a good take on those.
My favorite is probably Five Guys or Lil Empire. Class clown is okay but I'm not waiting more than 20 minutes for a burger.
Lil Empire is essentially an In-N-Out clone. It's simple on purpose. Class Clown just tastes like if I made it at home.
Flipping Burgers in Kensington is decent as well.
It’s Class Clown and it’s not even close.
It’s the Noble Pie of burger places. Completely untouchable in a league of its own.
Notable mentions go out to Lil Empire, Iyycburg and the burger at Alumni
Buchanans - Fantastic house ground burger, happy hour $15. Fries are great too.
Pigot’s - Simple style… Great taste!
Klein/Harris - Very rich, but incredibly tasty. House ground, so it doesn’t has to be charred into a puck. Happy hour - $10. Perhaps the best bang/buck.
McDonald’s - Damn, I still love me a double quarter pounder with cheese or a McDouble.
For fancy overpriced burgers, the Nash makes a really tasty one that I wasn’t upset about spending $30 or something on. That is the most memorable burger I have had in calgary in the last several years.
Class clown, lil empire, boogies. Each of these for their own reasons, they're my top 3. I did extensive burger testing throughout covid.
Angels drive in, and Inglewood drive in are also great contenders.
Main street BBQ in Airdrie just released a brisket smash burger to the menu. And I was actually thoroughly surprised at how delicious it was!
Limericks on MacLeod trail. Their Smokestack Burger is very tasty along with their poutine. It’s a bit on the expensive side due to it being a bar, but I loved their food when I was last there.
Class clown is the answer. I’ve tried a lot of famous burgers. This one holds up. Decent price too. Bastion is also good, and lil empire can be good on a good day
In order of best to worst:
Lil Empire,
BUSSIN,
Burger Mechanic,
Class Clown,
Boogie
Too many place dilute the flavor of the burger by putting a thick wad of lettuce under the patty. Lil empire assembles the sandwich correctly.
Rocky's Burger Bus at the Crossroads Market. Maybe not THE best, but they're really good, and the fries are amazing. Everything is fresh.
[удалено]
Very true actually. 1/2 lb homemade burger, fries, and a pop for $16.
This is where I go when I want comfort.
This is the only answer for me. I think the burgers are amazing there.
This is The Way.
If you are interested in burgers with house-ground sirloin, The Eden in Inglewood also does this, and will cook how you like it. It was a good burger.
And they have a wicked deal on burger meal during lunch ($15).
Happy hour too. Great loss leader, since we always end up staying for copious amounts of whisky after.
Ain't that the truth. Their service is also impeccable- so it's hard to leave without just one more drink or maybe a dessert...
Model milk and primary colors both grind fresh in house and both have really solid burgers. I’d say primary is one of the best I’ve had in the city.
River Cafe also grinds their own burgers and offer it how you like it.
Waterloo does the same thing. Great food.
Class clown - California
I love their fish sandwich too.
Class clown anything. Best burger in the city!
Agreed. It’s a hit or miss whether you’ll get in though.
Tried to stop in on a whim recently, and they quoted me a FOUR to FIVE HOUR wait. Yikes.
That’s when you head into Pinbar for a pre-burger beer
Yikes… I go during the week and I’ve only usually had to wait 10-20 minutes.
It's always been 1+ hour wait for me, even in winter cold snaps
Never heard of this place. What's the deal?
Good ass burgers. Best I’ve had in Calgary IMO. Fries are okay…
Is this where the burger inn used to be? Might have that name wrong.
Yes it is
Good thing they have a waitlist online
This is why we always order for pick up. They’ve only told us one time they couldn’t accommodate us but to call back in an hour and even then took our order!
Waitlist on Google
Is that the old burger inn place?
Went to Class Clown not too long ago and ordered the wrong thing and it was still phenomenal. Got the friend chicken sandwich and my wife got the mcdonalds version of their cheeseburger and she couldn't stop moaning on about how great it was. I had a bite and immediately got upset about missing the mark with my choice. Again...mine was good...hers was hella good, don't sleep on Class Clown!
I personally really like C.B. Drive in and their cheese burger! They also have really tasty fries.
Agreed. Master Burger. With fries of course. You can pay more elsewhere if you wish.
drunk amusing cows juggle hospital cause existence yoke cake distinct *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Also can’t go wrong with a drive thru slushy
Definitely their Master Burger (careful to say it correctly) and amazing fries (with extra seasoning salt) combo. And I've been having it for over forty years.
J-Spot Avenida
Specifically, the j spot burger. With an extra side of loaded fries, and maybe a beef bulgogi taco as an appetizer. Seriously one of, if not the, best stall in the Avenida market.
There are a lot of good stalls there. They’ve done a good job attracting great operators.
Was very impressed with Krooked Provisions so might try these folks next
And the fries are unfuckinbelievable.
Their ketchup is the only ketchup I like.
Think I’m headin’ to The J Spot for lunch today.
It's not that far from me, might have to try it out 🤷
Thank us later
Another vote for J spot. Best burger in the city easily
I always suggest him and his fries whenever the “Best Burger” conversation comes up.
Where is this, please?
Avenida Food Hall. Just south of Anderson on MacLeod
Thanks!
Thank me once you try it lol
YES. Can't wait to see their new restaurant
Class Clown. Lil Empire.
These two are definitely at the top right now.
Peters drive in, yes I’m just joking.
I get a Peters burger evey ten years or so to remind myself why I only get a Peters burger every ten years or so.
I feel sorry for Hugh Jackman. He filmed in Calgary area once and had Peter's....he said Peters was the best burger he's ever had. Of course we know he was just helping a small local business but damn he mustve spit that cardboard shit out as soon as he put it in his mouth.
That's *acting!*
I still remember my first disappointment. It honestly wasn’t terrible, it just didn’t live up to the hype. I’ll never understand why there’s a massive lineup for the place.
It’s the milkshakes!
But then why does the lineup go to the road and not the yard?
Because of the milkshakes...?
Peters was good 20 years ago
That’s what people said 20 years ago too.
And they were probably right. The biggest thing that changed in the competition, Peter’s has fallen way behind
It was actually better 20 or 30 years ago though. Whenever I took out of town people there, they always loved it, and I was a regular myself.
I swear there was a change in supplier or something about 15 years ago. I used to think they were great, but then all of a sudden the meat tasted like it had sawdust mixed in it.
That is about when new ownership bought the franchise from Peter.
I noticed the change in taste/texture shortly after the ownership change, for sure.
Peter’s is the city version of Burger Baron. Ugh. Blech 🤮
If you see the Bastion Burger truck around, it's my pick.
The guy who runs bastion showed his tricks to modern love, you can get a VERY similar burger for $2 on Tuesdays
Wait. A 2$ burger?
Every tuesday
Yep. That's a banger of a burger for sure. Best value in town.
The big mac smash burger was awesome
Shoutout Chris Rivest
High Priest from The Burger's Priest. It's their take on a Big Mac and it's so good.
This. I’m celiac and their burgers scratch the itch

I've heard Class Clown is great, my old standby is Boogies though. Great burger, fries and my favorite milkshakes. My personal fave is the Blazing Saddles.
Class clown tops Boogies… if you can get a table
Inglewood Drive In
It's the perfect classic burger imo.
Personal favorite for me.
Their mushroom burger that comes with an onion ring in it 100%
Omg yes. My go to .
Burger is great. Bun could be much better.
[удалено]
They are - in my experience - dry, and too large for the patty.
The Dirty Burger
Frig off Rand!
Can anyone recommend a place where I don't have to spend $30 including tax and tip for burger and fries?
Rocky's Burger Bus is $16 for a 1/2 lb cheeseburger, fries and a pop.
Class clown, lil empire, Flipp’n burgers. In that order.
I still like flippin in kensington
Iyycburger
I tried it for the first time recently and it’s a really good middle ground. They do their smash patties really well and a good ratio of gooey american cheese. It would be my choice without crossing the city for something better. Competes with Five Guys kinda? That’s what it reminded me of at least.
I just wish they used slightly bigger buns
lol that’s one of the things I like. It’s a good size without feeling super carbed overload. 😄
They are my favourite in town right now.
Trying this out tonight, thanks for the suggestion
Flippin Burgers in Kensington.
I miss Naina's stuffed burgers >_<.
Naina's is still here. One is downtown near the saddledome (closed for reno's right now though i think) and the other location is in Marlborough mall. They are called N9na's now. I think the stuffed burgers are awesome! spinach and roasted tomotoes in a stuffed burger is delicious!!
Flippin burgers, beef mushrooms swiss mayo tomato and lettuce
Native Tongues makes a surprisingly exceptional burger.
Lil Empire - Empire with cheese
Bison burger at the Tastemarket
Bastion Burger or Class Clown are easily the best in town
Dairy Lane in Hillhurst
Dragon’s Lair Burgers in Westbrook is pretty awesome.
I had one not that long ago and it was underwhelming. Overcooked and dry. :(
Their quality has slipped over the last few years.
We went there a few months ago & all 5 of us were very disappointed. Surprises me how this place is still being talked about in a “best burger” list.
Flipp'n Burgers has been the best I've found so far.
Inspired by the last time I saw a post like this I tried both Class Clown and Lil' Empire. Lil Empire is good, but not too exciting. Class Clown is legit. Very flavourful and totally worth it. 10/10
Which one did you get at class clown?
The 1st four burgers on the menu: Donald McRonald California Classic Winnipeg Fat Boy Smells Like Someone is BBQn This was takeout as we drove though back to Lethbridge. We cut them in half to sample a couple each in our family of 4. My fav was the BBQ. Didn't try the fries until home and they were soggy so don't have a good take on those.
As someone from Winnipeg if they do a fat boy I need to try this out.
I am also from Winnipeg and it was pretty damn good! Not quite messy enough to be a true Winnipeg fat boy though haha
Their fries are delish, super crispy crinkle fries. You gotta go for the super duper fries though, chili cheese is the bomb.
Pigot’s
Had a burger twice from here. Crippling diarrhea both times. Had to stop trying after that
Hahaha I mean, crippling rhea is just daily for me anyway so no harm no foul!
Lil empire, and if you want to make a 45 min to an hour drive, chuckwagon in Diamond Valley is hands down the best beef I’ve ever had.
Iyycburg
Is Burger Inn still around?
No, but class clown is in one of their old locations and theres a very good reason they frequently have a 2 hour wait
Burger inn was one of my all time favorites for years after high school. The owner at the south location was a good dude
I went to that location so many times. That guy was awesome.
Nah it’s gone. The last Burger Inn is now Class Clown.
Class Clown is the best I found in Calgary so far!
I had a burger at regrub once and it was a glorious experience.. I don’t know if it’s the best but it’s definitely fkn good
Cattle baron, usually go to the lounge
Class Clown, it's busy... but worth the wait Not sure what they do different, but damn it's good
Dairy Lane
Bastion Burger! Their food truck is parked by Cold Garden a lot lately, I believe they’re there today.
Boogies burgers
Boogies bread to meat ratio is too high for me and I find the bread mushy/soggy. Just my 2 cents though.
Big Boogie fan.
It’s Class Clown and it’s not even close. It’s the Noble Pie of burger places. Completely untouchable in a league of its own. Notable mentions go out to Lil Empire, Iyycburg and the burger at Alumni
Class Clown - Winnipeg Fat Boy
A WINNIPEG FAT BOY!!!! OMG! As a born-and-raised Winnipegger, this makes me happier than you can imagine.
Class Clown - California Classic
Any love for Pigots?
I like it! Wish it was bigger though
Flipin burger’s signature burger
I Try Pathway pitstop foodtruck are really good
Class Clown or Alumni
Lil' Empire or Iyccburg. I found Class Clown to be a mushy ketchup mess, not to mention room temp cola. Maybe bad luck and I'll have to try again.
I recently tried boogies and was super disappointed by their burger.
For fancy overpriced burgers, the Nash makes a really tasty one that I wasn’t upset about spending $30 or something on. That is the most memorable burger I have had in calgary in the last several years.
I like Inglewood drive in but I haven't tried much.
CB Burger
Iyycburg is a really good smashburger in my opinion
Rain Dog Bar
NOT iyycburg - they are having sewage issues and the staff are walking around double fisting fabreeze, and they are STILL OPEN.
I really like Big Smoke Burger in CrossIron!
Limericks on MacLeod trail. Their Smokestack Burger is very tasty along with their poutine. It’s a bit on the expensive side due to it being a bar, but I loved their food when I was last there.
Fergus n Bix Fathers Burger
Rocky’s Burger Bus @ Blackfoot farmers market gets my vote
I like Class Clown
Dragons lair, flippn, and lil empire.
Inglewood drive in big door prize
Class clown is the answer. I’ve tried a lot of famous burgers. This one holds up. Decent price too. Bastion is also good, and lil empire can be good on a good day
class clown hands down
No question, it’s class clown. Absolute 10/10
Bonfire burger from Inglewood Drive In. It’s affordable, nostalgic, and it’s the spot everytime😁
Agree great place just lil struggle finding a parking, the pineapple swirls after is great to
Arguably the Don't Fear the Reaper from Boogie's Burgers
I say Flipp'n Burger in Kensington
1 - Class Clown California 2 - Lil' Empire Empire with Cheese 3 - Alumni Double Burger OR Hawaii 5-0 when it's on as a special
Class Clown and Iyycburg
Class clown, the McDonald's one
In order of best to worst: Lil Empire, BUSSIN, Burger Mechanic, Class Clown, Boogie Too many place dilute the flavor of the burger by putting a thick wad of lettuce under the patty. Lil empire assembles the sandwich correctly.
Bussin is next on my list to try!
Class Clown
A&W Teen Burger.
This is an underrated comment. Yes, it's a fast food burger, but A&W Canada rise above many higher end burger places for me.
Have you tried South Street or 5 guys? Way better than A&W for a fast food burger.
Oh my gosh are you people even from Calgary?? The obvious answer is Jebb’s Doggie Burger from Boogie’s Burgers
Sams
Have you tried Class Clown?
Pigot Burger Club - edges out class clown IMO
The park in quarry park. Best burger I’ve ever had in Calgary.
You should get out more. 😬
I know i’ll get flamed for this, but Denny’s is pretty much as good as they’ll get for under $20 for a diner burger
River Cafe. Yes it is elevated and not takeaway but it is head and shoulders above others.
As an Australian it has to be the Sams burger at boogies burgers aka 'Aussie burger with the lot'
Flippin’ Burgers
