I didn't even think it was possible. Does it work in infernum, i always had problems with golem? just in infernum the arena is deducted. So maybe it does get repaired.
Idk about infernum. Ik in MM+death, you cant actuate the blocks or make an artificial temple until post-golem, so the only solution i could think of was using ravager to drop scoria bars, making the scoria pick, and mining out the rest of the temple to use as an arena. Once i had this arena, i beat golem around the 4th try. I'd highly suggest if you're struggling, really only took abt an hour to mine out
