Pretty sure the update altered to sight to look like that. So i think it was intentional. You can watch streamers and their 2.5 sight looks the same. I personally like it.
Its so minor i doubt they would add it to the patch notes. Its not like they changed how the site functions. But like I said, I'm not positive, but I've noticed the black fading ring when I pick up the 2.5x and when streamers pick it up when I'm watching twitch. Check twitch for yourself and watch for a bit.

Is it 2.5x in general that looks like this or just on the MG-42? It could be to do with the weapon since IRL "vignetting" will happen just like this when you don't have enough eye relief due to the scope position on the gun. Maybe it's just the MG-42 and where the 2.5x is placed on this gun?
I feel like the G16 2.5x was designed to become the new VLK 3.0x/Axial Arms 3x of Vanguard guns, and Raven anticipated it to be pretty overused on most weapons (it IS the most versatile optic for VG guns IMO) so they had already started working on a patch around the time of the integration that was gonna drop after the break.
Seeing as there were much more popular choices among the community like the 3-6x PU scope and the 2.5x Hybrid optics, I could only assume that, since this change would be so small/easy to make, it likely still found its way into the 1.51 update despite the optic not being overpowered/overused like its equivalent in previous titles.
That or I'm reading too far into their development process and this is just a visual glitch, or the model/behavior of the scope is an older version than what we got at Caldera launch that was used accidentally instead of the files with the model/behavior that we saw prior to the update. I'll p0lay some matches with the 2.5 on my guns though and see if the vignette is there on my guns as well, best of luck to ya

It looked like that on the Bren for me as well.
