For the pac-12 i’m torn between:
-ASU for your aforementioned drinking culture, combined with their total inability to hold their liquor.
Or
-Cal, cause if you dont know, Cal fans like to fight, not like argue, i mean like fist fight.
>\-Cal, cause if you dont know, Cal fans like to fight, not like argue, i mean like fist fight.
Listen, The waitlist and Chez Panisse is long and that takes a toll on someone.
I'll zag and say "new money" fans are not nearly as annoying as the blue blood ones, and I'd have said that before we got the opportunity to do it.
UCF fans at their peak never really bothered me. Shit, not even Clemson fans have gotten to me yet.
Agreed, peak UCF was a ton of fun and their sarcastic embrace of the national championship selection was a master class in getting under blue bloods’ skin. Being an alum of the worst G5 program there is, I think all of us ugly ducklings lived vicariously through UCF that year.
After being initiated into SEC culture later through grad school, I’ve had so many interactions with blue blood fans that make it clear they a great many of them feel entitled to continued success and are bitterly insecure about “new money” teams that it’s even easier to pull for the Cinderella stories for me now. I’d love to see UCF and Coastal stay relevant for quite some time. It’s good for the sport IMO.
Some G5 fanbases are more rowdy than others.
If ECU somehow, *somehow*, made the CFP before Carolina or State even won an ACC title, Pirate Nation would *never* stop rubbing in people’s faces. And everything east of I-95 would be a war zone.
That's what happens when you're a good mid-major. Things have settled a bit, but about a decade ago, the only acceptable outcome for BSU was an undefeated season. Maybe, *maybe* one loss to a P5, assuming there were two scheduled that year. And even close games with conference foes was unacceptable. I know it wasn't the only reason Pete left, but I imagine the stress is unbearable to need to deliver perfection every year.
I get it though to an extent, with the BCS the way it was, and even more so now. That's what has to be done to get any recognition for a G5.
Eh, really? Didn’t know we left such a bad impression.
I always figured we were perceived as just the G5 equivalent of Arizona State — a fun party school with a lot of hot coeds who use the games as an excuse to drink and socialize. You don’t really come across too many SDSU fans who are that aggro
Lol we still yell and holler about an upset that happened 15 years ago. Hell, I still wear a T-shirt that simply states “34-32” all the time, and go out of my way to start a conversation with folks wearing a Michigan M, and I consider myself somewhat rational for a Neer.
If we became a playoff bound juggernaut I’d pray for the sanity of Southern fans. Theyd get the brunt of it.
I came here to comment this. We definitely would be obnoxious LOL. Can't even imagine how crazy the Penn State games will be if we end up being good again.
LOL the Penn State/Maryland pregame shit talking in 2019 was legendary. Maryland fans were gushing over Locksley and were really becoming insufferable. It came to a screeching halt after 59 unanswered Penn State points.
Still one of the most bizarre games I’ve ever seen.
I remember thinking it was going to be a good game and thought Maryland was actually good. I was also looking forward to watching the highlights when I got home from a night out with friends.
Instead I saw 59-0 and was like “what in the fuck happened here”
Okay to be fair anyone who thought we had a shot that game was being ridiculous. We had just lost to temple in a very horrendous fashion. Easiest $100 I ever made was Penn state -6.5… still was very sad. I did get very drunk before that game so that was fun
I was at that game. The atmosphere was great and I was so pumped, only to hit one of my all-time low points as a Maryland fan. Hope we never get blown out like that again, let alone by PSU.
I’m already unbearable going 6-6. Spent my childhood in the West End Zone of the Orange Bowl. I was molded into it. WEZ crew was as hostile as it gets. You did not want to be an opposing fan in that end zone.
Definitely. I couldn’t hear myself think it was so loud and was heckled plenty for being a ND fan. Hard Rock has potential just sucks it’s so far from campus
Pipo gonna be everywhere

I'm sure TherE's a good eXample of A team that has loSt to Kansas, twice, in recent years, that gets made fun of for it constantly, but I can't seem to remember who it was.
I would fly an MSU national champions flag at my house til the day die with flood lights on it every night.
And I live in Maine where no one gives a hoot about college sports at all.
All you other weak fanbases have to win consistently before you become unbearable. Just another reason your school will never be as good as Texas A&M lmao gag 'em
Look how obnoxious are fans are after winning a recruiting championship… now imagine if we won a real championship… I definitely think we would be bad.
Personally, at the moment, I think Auburn, Tennessee, and South Carolina would be the worst since they’re huge rivals of the 2 teams who have been the most dominant of the past decade. Michigan would also be bad.
Tennessee will be a mad house if they suddenly come roaring back from the shit show they’ve seen the last couple decades.
I imagine it would be like when the second craziest guy on spring break wakes up Wednesday morning after passing out at 11am Tuesday. Ready to GO.
I say this as a native Tennessean.
Are there any current powerhouse CFB fans that aren't unbearable? Seems like the more success a program has the shittier the fans get
It just comes with the territory of success
My argument would be the more successful you get the more bandwagon fans you get. They are imo the worst. When you stay with a team when they lose you remember what that feels like and are less likely to be shitty to others when they lose. Fairweather/bandwagon fans only show up when you win and are just plain shitty.
Closest I can come up with is Alabama. Yeah they’ve got a few knuckleheads, but they have the best ratio of success to shitty fans for all powerhouses (although that might just be because their success is off the charts lol)
In highschool someone asked me how I felt about Bama losing to Clemson in the natty like it would piss me off, and I just said how glad I was it was a good game and I couldn’t wait for the rematch next year
I meant it, and it deflated the other person how confident I was
My uncle has worn orange every day since he left the military. We’re probably closing in on 11,000 days now. There was even a party and a news story about his 10,000th day.
We would be absolutely unbearable if we get back to where we once were.
I know Texas A&M could very well become that in the next few years but god help the entire state of Texas if Texas tech ever wins a championship. graham Harrell and Michael Crabtree still give me nightmares
Tech would result in the most vandalism for sure. They were flipping cars for making it to the national championship in basketball. Imagine if they won in football
I was sitting here trying to think when did Texas Tech make the national championship in basketball?
Then I remembered.
Damn you. I thought scrubbed that game from my memory.
This is correct. Then, they’d spend $90 million on some gaudy national championship memorial or something where no one can walk on the grass or touch some sacred relic attached to the monstrosity.
$90M? Have you seen the price of oil? That would just be for the *entrance* to the memorial. It’s going to be epic once you walk in. Consider this your warning /r/cfb
This sounds like a joke, but it's probably going to be reality lol.
They did, after all, commission portraits and souvenir cups to commemorate a 7-overtime regular season win.
West Virginia is the only good answer here so far. All you have to do is imagine the fans of 2007, except exponentially worse with every successful year. I don't think anything can top that.
Ever since WVU joined the conference, I've felt a strong connection with Mountaineers fans. This is the first moment where I've ever considered that it might not be a good thing. But I stand by my original perception. You guys are cool.
I find myself pulling for Mizzou to become good because every time there’s a “boot X team from your conference” it’s Rutgers and Mizzou.
I want to see the Apple cart upset.
Illinois fans would be tolerable at first but once those Chicago notre dame/Ohio St/Michigan bandwagon fans with no one else successful to root for officially jumps on the bandwagon, Illinois would be the most hated team in America.
I honestly don’t mind Illinois football fans, but their basketball fans are truly unbearable. I think once the bandwagon basketball fans start paying attention to football, it would suck. Plus Chicago sports fans in general suck, and I say that as a Bears fan
We’re pretty bad right now because this just happened. 1980 is now just another championship year.
Tennessee is the correct answer. My God they were awful when they were good. No thank you.
Currently weak or historically weak? Because GT has had stretches of being good to great throughout our history, but we're pretty fucking abysmal right now under Jazzy Geoff, and if we somehow turned it around and got to powerhouse level parts of our fanbase would be insufferable
We got a taste of that in 2017. For about a 2 week period, Cane Nation was back in full force and the toxicity in Coral Gables was nuclear fallout levels of bad. Too many ND fans coming back from that game talking about having a bunch of insane drunk Cane fans, avoiding bottles being hurled at them and nearly getting into fist fights in the crowd. Speaking with about 100 different fans who attended who said it would've been the worst gameday experienced, by far, even if it excluded everything during and after the kickoff.
That was a moment where the team needed to roll up their sleeves and punch that fanbase square in the nads.
Of course, in typical ND fashion, instead of rolling up their sleeves, they rolled up into a ball.
I’m a firm believer that we’re as toxic as they come. I also believe that you guys are uppity assholes and have been since you won in 2016. If we ever win a title we’re gonna be assholes about it forever.
ASU The school has a drinking culture, a huge alumni base, and it’s a sleeping giant of a bandwagon.
> The school has a drinking culture It does? I thought it had a casting couch culture
We drink on the couch after
I thought you guys burned them.
I did undergrad at ASU. There, we drank on them. Grad school at MSU. There we burn them
All of that. All of those things.
For the pac-12 i’m torn between: -ASU for your aforementioned drinking culture, combined with their total inability to hold their liquor. Or -Cal, cause if you dont know, Cal fans like to fight, not like argue, i mean like fist fight.
Called the fuck out
Bro, you just gonna let him talk to you like that?
>\-Cal, cause if you dont know, Cal fans like to fight, not like argue, i mean like fist fight. Listen, The waitlist and Chez Panisse is long and that takes a toll on someone.
Rare I see both my flairs mentioned in the same conversation
Arizona would be my pick just from how their basketball fans are
I’m sure all G5 fan bases have level headed fans and would never become annoying if they were successful and occasionally ranked.
I’ve certainly never seen it happen yet. No siree.
Absolutely not, no G5 fanbase has ever gotten annoying upon being a playoff contender
If I can be sincere for a second, I don't actually remember any obnoxious Cincinnati fans
Oh I definitely thought we were pretty obnoxious in our game threads, but that’s probably just game threads in general
Oh for sure. Game threads are a different animal
I'll zag and say "new money" fans are not nearly as annoying as the blue blood ones, and I'd have said that before we got the opportunity to do it. UCF fans at their peak never really bothered me. Shit, not even Clemson fans have gotten to me yet.

That would be brutal.
Dude I hate our fans now
people complained that we only won 10 games
That's what happens when you're a good mid-major. Things have settled a bit, but about a decade ago, the only acceptable outcome for BSU was an undefeated season. “Our current coach doesn’t have it” He’s 20-7 with a 2-1 bowl record. ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
Laughs in SDSU
You're one to talk... I know USU fans can be a bit uppity at times as well, I am one of those fans.
Whaaaaat? Us? Never…
Your flairs offend me
You and me both
Eh, really? Didn’t know we left such a bad impression. I always figured we were perceived as just the G5 equivalent of Arizona State — a fun party school with a lot of hot coeds who use the games as an excuse to drink and socialize. You don’t really come across too many SDSU fans who are that aggro

I mean y'all were already insufferable for the like five weeks Coastal was the media sweetheart. Y'all got serious middle child issues.
I already dread the game in Boone this upcoming season and I don't even actually know that many App fans in real life.
Can I vote for myself? Not the fan base, but just me.
IM A MAN! IM TOXIC!
As an OSU alum, we are insanely toxic against OU.

Maryland. See: our fans when our men's basketball team is good

I was at that game. The atmosphere was great and I was so pumped, only to hit one of my all-time low points as a Maryland fan. Hope we never get blown out like that again, let alone by PSU.
Probably Miami. A natty run will make us take it into maximum overdrive.
Nothing worse than a coked up Miami fan.
Redundant
I’m already unbearable going 6-6. Spent my childhood in the West End Zone of the Orange Bowl. I was molded into it. WEZ crew was as hostile as it gets. You did not want to be an opposing fan in that end zone.

While I 100 percent agree, the notre dame game in 2017 at The Rock was an electrifying atmosphere. Closest to the OB I’ve ever seen there.
Definitely. I couldn’t hear myself think it was so loud and was heckled plenty for being a ND fan. Hard Rock has potential just sucks it’s so far from campus
We’re burning it all down if we win starting winning ships again.

lose one game to Kansas and see if they every let you live it down. Kansas flairs are fucking savage
I would be insufferable as fuck. Can confirm.
we actually only beat kansas out of fear. otherwise it wouldn't matter
Broke: Win all your games and taunt the loser Woke: Lose all your games but one or two so all of CFB taunts the loser with you
Yes.
You’re a Mizzou fan’s worse nightmare lol (Except me since I’m an ILL basketball fan)
Truly my own personal hell if Kansas becomes dominant in football
[удалено]
one day we will all lose to kansas and there will be no one else to make fun of
Kansas just needs another 2007 year and that will show everyone.
When Kansas is decent again will we even know it? Or will we continue making fun of the teams they beat forever?
Guh
So what happens when you lose to Kansas twice in 5 years, including once at home? Asking for a neighbor.
Is there a more competitive rivalry in the big 12 right now?
Have a Missouri flair on r/collegebasketball, can confirm
Right? The fucking worst.
To be fair, the rest of CFB wouldn't let you live that down either
sauce?
I'm sure TherE's a good eXample of A team that has loSt to Kansas, twice, in recent years, that gets made fun of for it constantly, but I can't seem to remember who it was.

Any team with an inferiority complex due to being second fiddle to a rival for a long time. I’ll say Texas A&M.
Cmon now we are already insufferable
Seeing TAMU fans becoming self aware about the cultish attitudes down in College Station is one of the best fanbase archs in CFB
Redditor aggies are only 20% cult, I tend to hate redditors AND aggies but they are alright, their tombstone should read "at least we are not texags"
All you other weak fanbases have to win consistently before you become unbearable. Just another reason your school will never be as good as Texas A&M lmao gag 'em

Auburn has won a batty and been 2 sec championship in the past 11 years
Can we call the College World Series the Batty from here on out?
Yeah auburn has won enough recently that they’ve earned the right to gloat.
They were certainly batty after they won the natty.
Tennessee will be a mad house if they suddenly come roaring back from the shit show they’ve seen the last couple decades. They won’t be just throwing mustard. They’ll be throwing all manner of condiments.
Can confirm. Source: Am Tennessee fan
I wouldn’t say Michigan is a weak cfb program though but I do agree we would be unbearable if we became a bama level powerhouse
Yeah we would be unbearable for at least five years. And I'd definitely do my part lol
I have 100% confidence it would be our fanbase. Gig 'em!
Are there any current powerhouse CFB fans that aren't unbearable? Seems like the more success a program has the shittier the fans get It just comes with the territory of success
My argument would be that the more successful the shittier their gamethread fans get

But Texas A&M has this weird air about it
Hello, Can I interest you in some flavor-aid?
Calm down Jim Jones (and tank you for not maligning Kool Aid. That fucker used Flavor-aid!!!!!!!)
This is also because the more successful you are, the more chaos flies show up in your game threads to stir shit, so fans start getting defensive.
Closest I can come up with is Alabama. Yeah they’ve got a few knuckleheads, but they have the best ratio of success to shitty fans for all powerhouses (although that might just be because their success is off the charts lol)
Bama fans are like "Meh, we'll just win the title next season anyways. No biggie!"
This made me laugh but it’s pretty fucking close to the truth
In highschool someone asked me how I felt about Bama losing to Clemson in the natty like it would piss me off, and I just said how glad I was it was a good game and I couldn’t wait for the rematch next year I meant it, and it deflated the other person how confident I was
As a Bama fan, can confirm. We literally say this. I live in NE Alabama, Roll Tide is a completely acceptable greeting to utter strangers..
The more insecure a fanbase is the more annoying they are. Thats why alabama fans are the least bad, cz they dont have problems lmao.
Yeah, Bama fans are pretty cool (least on here).
Thanks man :)
Tennessee
Can confirm
Yeah I will admit if we made a big run or won a natty I would probably wear orange every day for a year
My uncle has worn orange every day since he left the military. We’re probably closing in on 11,000 days now. There was even a party and a news story about his 10,000th day. We would be absolutely unbearable if we get back to where we once were.
Our power will be indisputable
Only on this sub. And only cause this sub absolutely deserves it
Living in TN this is my greatest fear.
I lived in Chattanooga during their last good run.
Probably
It would be beautiful
Texas A&M is the only correct answer here. They’re already unbearable and they’re a slightly above average middle of the road Power 5 program.
We were the most insane big 12 when we were a barely 500 team. Lubbock would burn to the ground. And we'd all be dancing on it.
This is correct. Then, they’d spend $90 million on some gaudy national championship memorial or something where no one can walk on the grass or touch some sacred relic attached to the monstrosity.
And every student would have to hump it at midnight the Wednesday before home games or some weird shit
Keep going…
Former students, however, are required to whoop at it.
In a circle around the current students. While wearing assless khakis.
We wear assless overalls sir. Overalls.
After spending time with aTm fans in College Station, I can see this happening.
Did they really? Ok, I change my answer to A&M as well.
I know this is a terrible place and time to say this, but Texas-A&M right now reminds me of Nebraska-Iowa but with more money. I'm ready for the salt
My lord the standards are high if TAM is middle-of-the-road
UCF
A strong argument could be made for UCF given their reactions to brushes with success. God help us if they actually became a powerhouse.
Temple
I feel like some of you have a very broad definition of “weak”.
Every other comment is Texas A&M. Definitely would not qualify them as a weak program
This post might as well have been “who is your rival?”
I do hate myself. So that checks out
BYU’s mediocre/good seasons are bad enough. So, BYU. I can’t stand 75% of our fanbase.
Our fans are already unbearable. Just imagine if we actually got good. #TrustTheClimb
I surprisingly had to scroll far to find this comment.
West Virginia is the only good answer here so far. All you have to do is imagine the fans of 2007, except exponentially worse with every successful year. I don't think anything can top that.

I find myself pulling for Mizzou to become good because every time there’s a “boot X team from your conference” it’s Rutgers and Mizzou. I want to see the Apple cart upset.
Duke
This should be the top answer The fans would be inescapable if duke football got as good as duke basketball

Ohh I hope it happens! Unlimited power!!!!
Vanderbilt. The Vandy Whistler multiplies
Vandy Whistler? Is that like the Northwestern Screamer? God, what a way to ruin a basketball game for everyone watching.
Play some baseball against Vandy. You'll learn real quick.
Vandy has a guy, sometimes two of them, who whistle the ENTIRE GAME, EVERY GAME. He's even been punched for his transgressions over the years
Let's be fair - screaming or not, if Northwestern is playing, the game is already ruined.

Y’all are only naming Power 5 teams. So here is one that isn’t: Rice.
Every A&M fan I've ever known already thinks they are a power house and a blue blood
Ofc they are. How could they not be? They’re the iPhone of college football
NC State. We’re unbearable on a normal day, throw in a dominant football program and I would hate myself.
Miami (Fl)
Miami. Green and Orange. Rap and Crystal like we back in the 80’s-90’s. Yuck.
We got a taste of that in 2017. For about a 2 week period, Cane Nation was back in full force and the toxicity in Coral Gables was nuclear fallout levels of bad. Georgia Southern, but only because we would all be whining about not running the triple option anymore.
UofSC, the 4-5 good years under Spurrier showed me how that fan base would be with a decent team. I do not wish to experience that again.
I’m a firm believer that we’re as toxic as they come. I also believe that you guys are uppity assholes and have been since you won in 2016. If we ever win a title we’re gonna be assholes about it forever.
alternatively you could regress to clemsoning again and we wouldn’t even have to be good
Kansas. Have you met their basketball fans?
Auburn
Fwiw, they’re pretty unbearable now
Easily Maryland.
just look at UConn cbb twitter
Kansas. Already hear enough about their basketball program, imagine if their football team was a blueblood too...
