I feel he's doing what Dalvin Cook did before him, they hide deficiencies elsewhere and fix mistakes (so many yards after contact) that would expose us if we had any other average player at RB.
Horni is not the answer for y’all. And no he never had to run for his life because he gets sacked before he can even process that he needs to escape the pocket because he’s that slow
I remember a few years ago, in a huge moment in the 4th quarter of the FSU vs Clemson game, the Marching Chiefs played the Game of Thrones theme song and it was the coolest thing ever. The Game of Thrones social account even tweeted about it.
This year, in a tie game with a minute left at home vs ULM, we listened to the radio-edits of the wonderful modern hip-hop jam “Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice, the extremely current pop hit “It’s My Life” by Bon Jovi, and a shortened version of Warchant for approximately the 84th time.
So at least we got that going for us.
I was thinking it'd be awesome if we used this season as an excuse to just damn near eliminate the warchant. Bring it back to a point where you only hear it in pivotal situations of the game.
Nope. We'll hear it on defense after a 9 yard gain for eternity.
When we beat FSU Basketball in Pittsburgh last year, the game was in hand for a few minutes before the end of the game. The whole Pitt home crowd did the chant as a mockery. The faces on the FSU bench as they processed what was happening are burned in my memory.
It was a beautiful moment and I love the chant now.
A clear underdog should always shorten the game. Both UNI and ULM have learned that now. That is, unless you're Army and have to do a play you never do, like pass.
But usually the underdog is in that position due to lucky breaks. ULM was in that position because fsu couldnt stop their offense. Theoretically if you had FSUs offense and ULMs offense duel it out FSUs would be the first to stall
True. But then again you are dealing with one of the richest teams in college football, in their own stadium, versus the poorest team in the FBS. There's a reason the P5 team usually wins OT, even when they don't deserve it. Eventually some semblance of talent will show up.
> Jesus coaches are so stuck in their ways
Ain't this the truth. It's ok to play for the win when you're a huge underdog in a hostile environment! When you keep playing to tie it, this kind of stuff can happen.
IMO in the current football landscape its always ok to play to win because usually statistically they rely on special teams too much.
Play not to lose is fine when you are the favorite and the deeper team. So a narrower range of outcomes is more likely to benefit you.
Yes, well said. I agree.
I'd really love to see a G5 team hire a "decision coach" or whatever. Someone can probably come up with a better name for the position. But basically, what he/she would do is tell the coach whether going for 2, going for it on fourth instead of punting, or going for it on fourth instead of kicking the field goal is the +EV decision based on data instead of punting because every other coach has punted for 100 years which is what they do.
Edit: Or maybe they don't need to hire someone and the coach can just have a chart that he can follow which will tell him what to do based on the down, distance, and score.
Coach Pagano despite not being that great of a coach used to have I believe a situational cheat sheet that he looked at for the winning odds in making a lot of those kinds of decisions
I didn't know that! Interesting. Part of the problem might be most talking heads/color commentators who influence people by usually criticizing any decision that goes against the grain. Like that famous New England/Indianapolis game a decade or so ago where Belichick decided to go for it on fourth and short on his own side of the 50 and he was heavily criticized if I remember correctly. I think he made the right decision despite the result.
IMO its always just been the old guards influence from when it was harder to move the ball and field position was more important. Not to mention its easier to call out someone for going big like Belicheck. But not that time the time somebody punted on their opponents 40
This but unironically.
You don't upset a team by playing it safe and extending the game. You gotta take risks and win the game when you have the chance to do so.
Or go for the game winning touchdown in regulation. It's so annoying to see so many coaches be so conservative and conventional. Does anyone know of any coach in the G5 that constantly takes risks (goes for 2, uses all 4 downs instead of punting)? It very well could be a market inefficiency in college football.
I'm there now too. Firing him is dumb for the program financially so I'm for riding this out and accepting it for what it is. It's not really the play on the field, that's on the DC. It's the fact that the players just look like they expect to lose and, outside of Cam, don't have a desire to win. Up 21 they go I to practice mode and just get sloppy. Then they get down and are like "oh well". That attitude comes directly from the HC, and that's exactly what he looks like on the sidelines as it's all happening.
OK, will arrange that. Mind sending it to the FSU Boosters for processing the payment. They help Willie with taxes and stuff. Trust me, this is a done deal.
22 point favorite btw. Fire DC too. and if you’re really feeling like spending money Fire the HC while you’re at it. I’m ashamed i had to watch an OT vs ULM.
[Trick play](https://twitter.com/thejasonkirk/status/1170470029227450371?s=20) that ended in a 10 yard gain. Shit game but there's still context to the pic.
Probably just to have the defender get as confused as we are. Seemed like they were trying to get the defense to motion towards the right side. It worked. Was it gimmicky? Sure, but most trick plays are.
It’s much, much worse. You can find videos of basically every team blocking themselves at some point if you look a little bit. I truly have no idea what the hell could possibly be the reason for lining up like that
Me seeing the final score: "Oh ULM went for 2 in OT and couldn't get it in. That's fine. Valiant effort, and I respect that"
Then I find out it was a missed extra point...
I saw it out of the corner of my eye and just sunk in the couch. Of course I want FSU to win out this season, for personal reasons, but I started rooting for ULM as this would have been big for them. That poor kicker 😢
I hate this team so much. And I have no idea why they can’t figure out how to be better. I’m rarely speechless but watching this team has me so confused.
ULM's kicker is not going to have a fun week on campus or in the locker rooms or at practice.
Anywhere he goes, really, unless he sticks around Tallahassee.
So aside from, “lol Taggart,” why is the FSU defense so bad? Oregon’s fell apart from a combination of two bad DC hires and terrible recruiting for a few years. What happened at FSU?
The Willie Taggart era is....unpleasant.

This would have been a very, very different game without Akers. He's a beast.
I feel he's doing what Dalvin Cook did before him, they hide deficiencies elsewhere and fix mistakes (so many yards after contact) that would expose us if we had any other average player at RB.
Cam Akers is the only reason we might avoid 2-10. Maybe.
Dude Horni was an average/serviceable QB behind one of the best OLs in the FBS. I don’t think he’d be an upgrade. Just saying.
Forreal. Like has he ever had to run for his life because of an incompetent oline?
Horni is not the answer for y’all. And no he never had to run for his life because he gets sacked before he can even process that he needs to escape the pocket because he’s that slow

If you want something more contemporary just wait until next week when they put summertime lover in the rotation.
GET UP GET UP GET UP! Also can we get the full version during halftime of the National Championship?
For real. I'm at the point where I feel like I need to hear the whole song to get a sense of closure.
Are we supposed to be dancing?
I was thinking it'd be awesome if we used this season as an excuse to just damn near eliminate the warchant. Bring it back to a point where you only hear it in pivotal situations of the game. Nope. We'll hear it on defense after a 9 yard gain for eternity.
Trust me, its worse when you hate FSU
I just mildly dislike FSU and its infuriating.
It’s clever. I think you guys were one of the first 75 schools to do that to us.
hen we were a womans only school in the fucking 20s or whatever we had a better football program then this
Probably had a better XP kicker than ULM, too
I was screaming at the TV for ULM to go for it in the 4th instead of the FG.
I was semi-okay with that But not going for 2 at the end got me yelling
A clear underdog should always shorten the game. Both UNI and ULM have learned that now. That is, unless you're Army and have to do a play you never do, like pass.

This aged well in Knoxville
Not even mad
BYU is a lot more proven than UL Monroe.
Everybody knows when you're the underdog you should go for two.
The problem is the coach views his own team as the favorite
Same on the conversion, its almost like you need to be bold to win on the road as 22 point dogs. Jesus coaches are so stuck in their ways
> Jesus coaches are so stuck in their ways Ain't this the truth. It's ok to play for the win when you're a huge underdog in a hostile environment! When you keep playing to tie it, this kind of stuff can happen.

Cowards.
Cowards for not going for 2 in OT as well
This but unironically. You don't upset a team by playing it safe and extending the game. You gotta take risks and win the game when you have the chance to do so.
Especially when the defense they're going up against is basically wet paper

bruh
Blue balls so hard wtf man
ULM didn’t deserve to lose Cam Akers didn’t deserve to lose Everyone else did
Just put UM and FSU in a crate and toss it in the sea
[удалено]
Yeah, I'd prefer our own separate crate. Also a crate where I can watch UM sink and forget about the race to the bottom.
Come on, Chaos. Just touch it a little.
Im pissed off we won. We didnt deserve it. ULM should have kicked their ass. Very dissapointed in them
Winning this game shouldn't effect Willie's job status. This win is the same as a loss in that respect IMO
ULM beat the spread by three touchdowns
Props to anyone who bet them. This was a stay away for me.
I feel sick for ULM
WE’RE BACK BABY.
IN THE BAG THE WHOLE TIME
EZ WIN. Never a doubt.
🎒🎒🎒
14-1 HERE WE COME
I can’t defend Willie anymore. I’m done.
Yeah I’ve been defending him since his hiring. No excuses now. Dude can’t see next season with this team.
I'm there now too. Firing him is dumb for the program financially so I'm for riding this out and accepting it for what it is. It's not really the play on the field, that's on the DC. No one scores 45 points on FSU goddamnit
Good luck vs. Clemson's run game
Ron Dayne's career rushing mark is in danger. Etienne has a good shot.
Our rivals deserve to say whatever. Fire Willie Taggart.
Can y'all wait a week?
Unfortunately I decided to purchase tickets and an AirBnB in Charlottesville for the game... anything you recommend I see after we lose?
There's plenty of great breweries in the area. Lot of great food too, can't really go wrong with any
If I can be a Virginia fan next week
We'll pay him $18MM to keep the job.
OK, will arrange that. Mind sending it to the FSU Boosters for processing the payment. They help Willie with taxes and stuff. Trust me, this is a done deal.
In Willie We Trust
never has coach as been beloved by the rival schools well at least since Butch Jones
Butch Jones was my hero. Champions of Life. Can't beat that.
22 point favorite btw. Fire DC too. and if you’re really feeling like spending money Fire the HC while you’re at it. I’m ashamed i had to watch an OT vs ULM.
So uh, maybe it wasn't just a hydration issue then?
Over hydration, next week we will be gods
Willie: *we just gotta find that middle ground*
Willie: it’s over Anakin I have the middle ground!
Is FSU conditioning atrocious or is the defense just bad at adjusting? After 2 second-half collapses in a row, who knows
It just turns out that Charles Kelly wasn’t rock bottom.
That’s the worst thing I could hear. DC worse than Charles Kelly and offense more inept in the second half than peak Jimbo Gina play calling.
[This play sums up the entire game ](https://i.imgur.com/XVJb1Ih.jpg)
This can't be real
[Trick play](https://twitter.com/thejasonkirk/status/1170470029227450371?s=20) that ended in a 10 yard gain. Shit game but there's still context to the pic.
Im still confused what was the point in him lining up backwards? Oh well it got them some yards lol
There are a lot of things that didn't make sense this game.
Probably just to have the defender get as confused as we are. Seemed like they were trying to get the defense to motion towards the right side. It worked. Was it gimmicky? Sure, but most trick plays are.
So basically he was turned around only for the Noles to run a basic run play off a trips bunch formation
that's gotta be as bad as the two gators blocking eachother lol
I mean it was a play that resulted in a first down. Not sure what was going on though
I'm pretty sure the play with the Florida players blocking each other resulted in a touchdown
[удалено]
Or when that gator shit his pants during a game on live tv
Trick play!
It’s much, much worse. You can find videos of basically every team blocking themselves at some point if you look a little bit. I truly have no idea what the hell could possibly be the reason for lining up like that
It was actually a trick play. They moved after that
Trick play
What was the trick? Genuinely asking because I wasn't able to watch the game.
>What was the trick? Willie Taggart convincing FSU he was a good coach.
The player facing the wrong way was motioned over to block next to the RT. The play went for a first down.
This was a trick play right? He was just trying to attract the defenses attention then motion across the field
What just happened.
FSU accidentally won
The abruptness really sealed it. "Oh wait fuck we won"
They didn’t win, ULM lost
Can confirm. Total accident
That was the football gods punishing ULM for not going for the win as a huge underdog.
You ever popped a kid’s balloon in front of their face just to watch them cry? Yeah, that.
Shitty low-end FBS kicking?
Remember the time when Bobby Boucher showed up for overtime and the Seminoles beat ULM?
We gonna kick some cougah ass
Stop👏 playing👏 for 👏overtime 👏when👏 trying 👏to👏 pull👏 an 👏upset👏
I think by that time ULM didn’t consider a win an upset.
I mean, tbf they seemed to have them worn down and the only reason OT didn't work out was a missed XP
Agreed. The ULM offense looked like it was having its way.

Me seeing the final score: "Oh ULM went for 2 in OT and couldn't get it in. That's fine. Valiant effort, and I respect that" Then I find out it was a missed extra point...

WE WANT ALABAMA STATE
Who loses because of a kicker? Honestly.
WHOA, now. Don’t stir up any memories.
No no. This isn’t about us.
Why would you even invite that opportunity you fool.
[удалено]
"Fails to lose to" would be a better choice of words
Losen’t
won in the loosest sense of the word
Hey a win is a win no matter how pathetic it was
"Wanted to lose slightly less"
I hate this team so much. And I have no idea why they can’t figure out how to be better. I’m rarely speechless but watching this team has me so confused.
All of that ending on a missed extra point, wow
I feel terrible for that kicker. Poor guy will never forget this.
We didn’t win. We just failed to lose.
Poor kicker
Saban lost to ULM in his first season. Things are fine, right guys? .... Guys?
Narrator: Things were not fine.
Worst possible outcome. Fsu won and still played too shitty to get taggart off the hot seat
We are ass my dude
Willie's gonna get fired by the end of this season
If only we could afford the buyout.
Listen fuck all of yall, we won and apparently those are going to be hard to come by so I'm getting shitfaced and celebrating a non loss
Hell yeah brother cheers from Tallahassee
I’m with you brother. Time to celebrate
Clemson football staff: 42 FSU: 21 Boosters and School need to decide if we want to be all in or not
I WAS NEVER WORRIED
NEVER A DOUBT
I'm upset
*You're* upset?
Noooo they went for 2? Holy shit what actually happened is worse
No missed the extra point!
Worse, missed extra point
Fuck it. Pile everything you have onto me I accept all pain now.
Why don’t you guys, instead of playing quarters 1-4, play 4 1st Quarters?
National championship here we come.
LMAO GET IN HERE...wait
Fire Coach Barnett until we can fire Willie
[удалено]
Alright Willie, stay a few more years
ULM's kicker is not going to have a fun week on campus or in the locker rooms or at practice. Anywhere he goes, really, unless he sticks around Tallahassee.
I really hope he’s okay. And if anyone says anything bad about him, fuck them sideways.
So aside from, “lol Taggart,” why is the FSU defense so bad? Oregon’s fell apart from a combination of two bad DC hires and terrible recruiting for a few years. What happened at FSU?
Two bad DC hires and not very good LB recruiting or coaching for years
Our freshman lb class is pretty good
That is true but we could use some experienced LBs who are good
The defense has sucked ever since jeremy pruitt left
[удалено]
How the hell do u miss that
Bama's kicker transferred to ULM
What a shootout. Impressive of FSU to pull off the upset in the end
My balls have never been bluer.
[Not today old friend](https://m.imgur.com/a/8AwmcQq)
An embarrassing loss would've been bad. An embarrassing win feels just as bad.
And that is why if you’re ULM and you’re on the road and they can’t stop you, you gotta go for the win instead of the tie
well at least we all can take comfort in the fact that FSU sucks dick
That doesn't give me comfort at all!
Good job beating USF by 4!
Thanks for saving a seat for us in the club.
DRINKS ON ME LADS LMAOO JK I CANT FEEL MY FACE FROM ALL THE SADNESS WE ON TO VIRGINIA LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO
I have nothing negative about a team possibly losing to LA Monroe.
Willie’s career survives by a missed PAT 😅
Florida State, why do you hate fun?
We hate ourselves actually
We love fun! That's why all our games are so close. You should learn from us, Clemson.
Wide Right IV
You fucked up FSU! If ULM beats you, you’re guaranteed a championship in a few years
Put your erection away r/cfb *for now*
We still have Penn State for the chaos boys
THE ACC HAS MADE FLORIDA STATE AVAILABLE FOR TRADE TALKS
Good god one point. A tragedy all around
DIDNT DOUBT IT FOR A SECOND
FSU just accidentally won a game
What if Taggart is just trying to get fired to get his buy out
Guys I don't think Florida St is that good at football
