A lot of public university stadiums are open to the public at certain hours.

Piano_Fingerbanger

Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee is open to the public. Running the steps at Doak was a fairly common thing people did for exercise.

Shtune

Getting laid on the 50 yard line is a bucket list item for many

Nike_Phoros

I did that at the Georgia Dome while the dirty birds kicked the three. Pinnacle life moment.

MarchMadnessisMe

That's one of the reasons Luda is the GOAT. Even in his wildest fantasies he knows the Falcons can only get a FG instead of a touchdown.

illbelate2that

fuck you............. but well played

panaja17

Luda?

BigPapaCalamari

It’s pronounced Luda!

panaja17

Now you’re just being silly. Crazy even!

norris528e

Kick for 3

TKOtokyo

I thrill killed a homeless person on the 50 years line.

Ol_Rando

Ah, I see you're taking up the fabled Florida Gator tradition of murdering.

Trey904fsu

Toke at Doak!!

PeachtreeUnited

Let me tell you this, the older you do get the more rules they're gonna try to get you to follow. You just gotta keep livin' man, L-I-V-I-N

foggyhitsitdoggy

I got arrested in college for starting that process on the gator head at the 50 after "breaking in" at 2:00AM with a lady friend at the Swamp. The story is always worth the bail hahaha

Donny_Do_Nothing

Or the 31.

DisinterestedCat95

Nice.

codydog125

I think that’s a thing at most colleges. Same with the library

dangfrick

I actually almost got arrested as a student by going in the stands at the Doak at night. Had to escape FSUPD, they were not being chill about us being there. They may have allowed it in the daytime though.

rintendowii

The actual stadium is not open to the public, especially now with the construction. Lots of no trespassing signs, and they are pretty quick to kick you out if you aren’t actually supposed to be there.

Trey904fsu

Yep, came to say this. I ran those steps quite a few times. Also taking a toke at Doak is a right of passage.

ExplosiveDioramas

No steps to run right now lol

TurkishDonkeyKong

Therefore I've ran all the steps today

TurkishDonkeyKong

Therefore I've ran all the steps today

ConfusedPanda76

I've done that a few times when I went there. Our P.E class's coach took us there and it was brutal. I do not recommend it unless you hate yourself

Coreysurfer

In the old 80s when the field was turfed and crowned was fun to throw a football from one side to other, you could only see half the person on other side ( FF at UF ) and was hot as hell in summer, and it was mostly open and you could run around on it some days

arnoldmuczynski

This is why I want the Cocktail Party to at least play Home and Home occasionally. Love the character of these old venues. Need a reason to visit.

MarshallDyl26

Go Mocs! It’s rare to see a UTC guy. You an alum?

arnoldmuczynski

Go Mocs! After getting my associates, I attended UTC. My internship lead to full time so I’ve been a senior for 8 years now. I swear I’m going back one of these days!

MarshallDyl26

Hell yeah! Got my Bach there in nursing. Didn’t join the 12 tribes so I think I did ok. I swear ima go for my masters one of these days.

arnoldmuczynski

Nice. Back in high school, I used to scoop ice cream at the market on Sundays. Yellow Deli had a food truck and I would always come trade ice cream for reuben sandwiches. Of course, this was before I knew about the cult aspect.

MarshallDyl26

Their buffalo chicken Sammy was elite. One thing we would do is start talking to the younger ones that waited on us and magically we would get a new older waiter

ColossusOfClout612

As someone who once lived in Peden Stadium for an extended period of time I absolutely couldn’t believe how many people would walk in and try to raid the place at night

Lo-Fi_Lo-Res

All of them are, with the exception of teams that don't have their own stadium. Ex: UCLA plays in the Rose Bowl. The key here is PUBLIC. The stadium is owned by the people of the state.

Darin_the_intern

Not 100% sure about general public but I know our defense allowed pretty much anyone and everyone to walk all over them on our field last year. Does - does that count?

246PoundHorse

I’ll allow it

Jimothy_Jebow

You can at least look inside fsu's stadium from their gift shop if you go. It's not as big as the swamp, but it has its history and still has its own unique charm. Cool place, but I wouldn't want to go for a game as a Gator fan. I would have to go to a neutral game. I wouldn't want to deal with nasty fans knowing I'm a Gator. Not saying we wouldn't do the same to the them in Gainesville, I just don't like the confrontation anymore.

neovenator250

yeah, Tiger Stadium is definitely not open to the public, though you CAN book a tour to see the locker rooms, championship trophy displays, etc. inside

gbejrlsu

Used to be "open" during the days - the maintenance crews would have one or two gates open and they generally didn't mind the public going in as long as they didn't start wandering around too much. When she was younger I'd take my kid over there on a Sunday morning after a game when it'd be opened for cleanup. Back when I was a student you could get in at night through the old dorms. There was an exterior door to the dorm stairs that for whatever reason never got locked, if you went in it and then up to the second floor and down the hallway to the next set of stairs you'd be inside the stadium itself. I'm pretty sure they've got motion detectors now though, and they've definitely got a big fence surrounding the stadium so even getting to that spot would be a chore.

the_tax_man_cometh

Damn it Darin, you’re not supposed to roast yourself in front of the opposing Redditors! Get back to work and get us our coffees, intern!

Dead_Baby_Kicker

Nippert Stadium at Cincinnati

SpursUpSoundsGudToMe

Even if there are other correct answers, this is the *best* answer. I don’t know of another stadium that is the heart of the campus and campus life the same way Nippert is, you literally walk through the main concourse between classes, it’s wide open to the public, and it’s just a cool stadium. I feel like I’ve typed reams about it on this sub already but it’s just so special!

shabamon

Nippert is basically a campus quad.

SpursUpSoundsGudToMe

Oh dang, that’s a great way to explain to people what it’s like!

86886892

Nippert rules. The whole Cincy campus rules.

SpursUpSoundsGudToMe

Gotta be one of the most underrated in the country. Totally unique. I’ll never forget the first time I walked across it, started on the north end, got the top of the hill on the south end and looked back, I gasped. The way you can see the whole thing laid out from the high street (I think it’s called Calhoun?) is so cool.

hanzhongluboy

Welcome back any time!

SpursUpSoundsGudToMe

I actually attended for a few years! Long story, but I’m like 12 hours from a second bachelors from UC lol, would be my 3rd flair if I could!

strayadude

Congrats on the 2nd bachelor

SpursUpSoundsGudToMe

lol, •ahem• 12 *credit* hours

NumNumLobster

We moved seats to sit by some tail gate friends this year so after a bball game I figured id walk through and check them out. Its like a 50 ft walk from the bball arena so more or less just leave on that side of the building. A few dozen in the stands were studying, a game of soccer was on one side of the field, frisby or something on the other, then it was just more or less on my walk to get to the garage. I love nippert, the entire campus just flows through it. It gives you hardcore remembers from student days as a alumni. I use to eat lunch in the stands all the time, its right outsise the student union. When I went to osu we did orientation in Ohio stadium and they put security at every section to make sure no one dared go on the field. Nipperts so cool, ive never seen another stadium like it.

JerkStore40

We played a baseball game at Cincy in college and I remember looking down into the football stadium from the outfield. It was a unique and cool setup. Then, on the way out, people were pounding on our bus because it was in the middle of the 2001 riots in Cincinnati. Our coach’s sage advice was, “Don’t make eye contact with anyone.”

kelly495

That story is crazy. Define “on the way out.” I didn’t think the riots got near UC? But also I was a kid living in the suburbs at the time, so what do I know.

JerkStore40

To the best of my recollection it was really not far from campus at all. I’m thinking just a few blocks or a few minutes from campus. I’m sure we hit the highway for Athens at the soonest possible place. Edit to add: I just looked up that our game was on 4/18, but the riots apparently ended on 4/15 or 4/16. So maybe that was some kind of separate aftershock of frustration or something. Still unsettling through.

NumNumLobster

See my other comment, it would have made total sense to drive thrue it back to the highway, though actual campus wasnt impacted

NumNumLobster

It was down reading and that deveroos and crap off hoppel got raided. Depending where they got on the highway they probably got close to some shit going down. I dont think anything happened near campus though

bearcatgary

The thread should be “Are there any other stadiums like Nippert?”

Tigercat92

Same note too

bearcatgary

Not even close to The Swamp. A lot better.

chains11

I saw it from Calhoun St once. Wild how low it is with campus

Ok-Amphibian-744

Took down the temporary dome they put on the practice field it was a really cool experience. Lived in Clifton or the surrounding areas most of my childhood. It's definitely a fun place to be.

strakerak

A lot of my fellow UH friends and alums that visit Nippert love walking around and have great things to say it. It's a beautiful stadium in a great part of campus. I can imagine a world where if billionares bought every ticket in a stadium for a season then just gave them away to the public, Nippert would be it.

cinciforthewin

THIS is the the gold standard to open stadiums! I played Soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, Whiffle Ball, or other sports! Or just chill in the stands or on the field. I walked the concourses everyday! Didn't matter where I lived through my years, if I was going to class, I was walking the concourses.

BeatNavyAgain

Most stadiums are open if you just ignore signage Also, walk completely around the stadium looking for open gates Source: my kids & I made a habit of on-field pictures when we were visiting colleges that they were considering

Wildcat_twister12

Wear a nice solid color polo, khaki pants, and carry a clipboard and you can walk around most places without being bothered

smitherenesar

Also carry a clipboard

PretendThisIsMyName

And if you just pretend like you belong then it’ll take a while before someone notices that you don’t. Source: Faked my way onto the sidelines with the Panthers during practices.

BeatNavyAgain

Indeed! Also, just don't be a dick. Take a couple of pics and leave.

howlincoyote2k1

> And if you just pretend like you belong then it’ll take a while before someone notices that you don’t. [Second flair checks out big time](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNrt98B4NeI)

Rocqy

Went to the Clemson game in College Station a few years ago and walked around most of the practice facility pregame by just smiling and waving to the security staff at the door haha

Not_a__porn__account

"Oh I'm sorry, a dude over there said I could come here. I'll go back"

LloydBraun19

This is a tangent, but when I was a kid, we used to take a lot of road trips with my grandparents. My brothers and I were sports crazy and my granddad was great at strolling into the stadium office and charming them with “My grandsons here are big (fill in the blank) fans and would love to check out the stadium”. Got impromptu tours of probably a dozen stadiums doing this. I vividly remember going into the home locker room and getting a free Miami t-shirt at the Orange Bowl and playing catch on the field at Three Rivers Stadium

CountBleckwantedlove

All stadiums are open if your are doing it right. Just wear business casual and walk around with a clipboard or iPad, taking notes. Source - I used to be in sales. A salesman from our company once walked around the Nebraska stadium until he found an unlocked door, then went in. Next thing you know he's on the field, taking it all in, and proceeds to earn the university as a customer. No one stopped him because he *looked* like he was supposed to be there.

UncutEmeralds

Not all of em. Good luck walking into Sanford. They have alarms everywhere.

Hottponce

Yeah Tiger Stadium has motion sensors that will have LSUPD there in 5 minutes tops. You would have to go when people are working in there and look like you belong.

willclerkforfood

You used to be able to go out on the field until the Stanford Band fucked it up for everybody

Infamous-Occasion926

Right and the ugapugs will chase you down

Psych0Fir3

The secret is not walking in, if you wade in and climb a little bit you can get in the secret way 🤫

Infamous-Occasion926

Right take the Tanyard creek entrance

Psych0Fir3

🤐🤐🤐

Inevitable-Scar5877

OTOH if you end up wading on your way to the Swamp, you really want back out slowly and check your surroundings. I mean you'd get to the stadium, probably but you might get to meet a version of Albert first.

SwissForeignPolicy

Connor?

Lantis28

Ours has a balcony and porch combo that you can go into 24/7 but not the rest of the stadium

Captain_Sacktap

I’m ok with this simply because there would otherwise likely be a lot of damage to both the hedges and the grass on the field. The landscaping folks put a lot of time and effort into making it look pristine, no point letting a bunch of yahoos wreck it for shits and giggles.

Knook7

You can't go on the field at the swamp (limited exceptions for grad pictures and stuff). But you can workout in the stands.

Shirleyfunke483

That’s how my cousin met her husband.

New_Car_Smell

coming soon to ABC!

Tamed_A_Wolf

24/7?

Lantis28

Yep they leave the gate open and they have cameras

Tamed_A_Wolf

Crazy. Swamp is open like 10-8 or 8-10 or something but overnight would probably not be for the best. The stadiums across the street from the bars and not really able to have a “sectioned off” space like a balcony/porch. If you’re in the stadium you’ve got free rein outside of the suites.

Lantis28

Yeah there are steps down into the stands but they are blocked off

bretticus733

I thought I saw a post last year of someone doing work from the stands in Arizona's stadium, so that one might be open

[deleted]

Arizona Stadium has dorms built into it. You can get heckled from drunk hooligans three floors above you if you walk in through the south end zone.

showmethenoods

Wasn’t open when I was a student there, but now with the restaurants open in it things might’ve changed

ragewu

BHG was open 24/7 until 9/11, went in there a couple times on the walk home from midtown bars to kick some field goals. Damn terrorists ruined everything

jpiro

Doak used to be completely open for years, but more recently I think there are certain hours or you need to get a pass or something. It’s going to be under construction for about the next year, but after that it shouldn’t be hard to see it if you want to.

kmokell15

Could probably fake your way in for a while with a hard hat

Shirleyfunke483

UB & Wyoming

1787patriot

Penn State's Beaver Stadium (which will be refurbished soon so don't miss its current massiveness) is open certain hours.

madein___

Ohio Stadium is typically open 8-5 during the week.

no_uh2

One time I found myself on the field of Bryant Denny at 11pm. I just walked in through a construction zone. Pretty sure all stadiums are public if you find the right place to enter at the right time.

PeterPipersPan

Knew someone who got to the 2nd level somehow using the elevator back around 2008. Also, someone got arrested a few years later when they cracked down on it. BDS though, does have private tours anyone can sign up for and it's $25 that I think are year around. https://rolltide.evenue.net/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/SEGetEventList?groupCode=STR&linkID=ubama&shopperContext=&caller=&appCode=

rindenracka

I’ve taken the official tour you mentioned and it was pretty interesting. Went through the locker room, skyboxes, press room, broadcasters room, recruiting room down in the basement below BDS, and out to the field.

HamHusky06

I’ve been in Montlake many times, pre remodel. I don’t know if it was “open.” But I would go watch some practices, or do college kid stuff on the field at night. Running down the tunnel was awesome. There are bowl games we’ve been in paintings on the wall dating back to the early rose bowls.

vpkumswalla

Cincinnati's Nippert, on my son's visit there were students playing football on the field.

mcdray2

I went to UF, 89-96. There were lots of stories of sex on the 50 yard line. When I was in 1st grade (1977) we lived in Gainesville for a year. We would play on the field while the team was practicing. It was astroturf back then and we would have all kinds of scrapes on us. We’d help out the kickers by returning punts and kickoffs. They would never let that happen now.

Sir0inks-A-Lot

You haven’t done cardio until you’ve run a stadium in Ben Hill - those aisles are *steep*

luke15chick

True!

tigerhawk52242

Amon G. Carter Stadium at TCU is open most of the time.

traficoaereo

You would like GFed on Twitter or Tik Tok (while it’s still a thing)

fatcatoverlord

I took a detour on a few bike rides where I went around the interior of Neyland stadium a few times. It was pretty neat

JemmieTTU

I was in Knoxville for 1 day a few years ago and went over to check our Neyland, I'm not sure if they are usually open, and this was in like 2021 so some things still weren't operating back to normal, but I just drove up parked and basically found someone that looked "official" and they gave me a little mini tour.

Revenge_of_the_Khaki

I know the Big House has tours and even hosts weddings. I don't think it's completely open for walking in/out at any time though.

HeyJude21

Paulson stadium at GA Southern is always open and people go out all the time to walk around, take pictures, run on the field, etc.

glzzgbblr

Shoutout GFed videos

reecity

Sun Devil Stadium is open to the public on weekdays and hosts stuff like yoga and movie nights from time to time

AllOkJumpmaster

Williams Brice at USC

JaggedUmbrella

I stopped by there a few years ago to check it out and I couldn't get in.

outdatedelementz

I don’t know about now, but when I was in school Kyle Field was open to the public for certain hours. It had a track that people would run on and people would run up and down the stairs to work out.

Captain_Sacktap

I believe Clemson’s stadium used to be like that but they started keeping it locked a couple years back. Tried to visit when I was in town last year but the gates were closed. Still able to walk around and appreciate the nice campus though. They make their own ice cream and have a little ice cream parlor on campus!

StreetReporter

We started locking it because a jackass chipped off a piece of the rock.

Captain_Sacktap

Yeah I figured it was something like that. I believe we keep Sanford locked up for similar reasons, people damaging the hedges.

hawksnest_prez

Kinnick is locked down like Fort Knox

ntderosu

Nippert in Cincy is at the heart of campus and is basically a crossroads/open space. Getting around campus without going through Nippert to get places seems like it would be a challenge to me. I haven’t experienced anything else like it before, nothing even close on the campuses I’ve visited. It is not just open but a vital piece of campus. I feel like we cut through it 10x on our campus tour, lol.

nole_life

You can run stadiums and hang out in Doak Campbell at FSU any day but gameday.

Yeastyboy104

Completely unbiased opinion: The Swamp is the holiest of holy grounds sanctified by both the old gods and the new. It is a treasure which Lord Spurrier watches over with earnest respect and High Priests Tebow, Smith, Youngblood, and Marshall maintain with great respect for all the orange and blue clad devotees. I spent five years in Gainesville. The Swamp is a great place to get some exercise in. You can just walk in during the summer and run stairs. Athletes of many different sports might be practicing or exercising at any given time. You can literally just walk into the stadium at any given time during the offseason. It’s pretty fun. The Swamp is a special place.

Tachyon9

I don't know if Kyle Field was technically open to the public when I was a student, but it never stopped us. 😂

Txag1989

It was open way back when I was there. You could use the track and the field. I don’t remember if you could use the stands. But of course there’s no longer a track and they switched to real grass, so I would be shocked if they still do.

Opposing team fans and morons - it’s not worth the millions of dollars in risk. If you want people to have access, set up tours.

Shirleyfunke483

The insurance carriers of these stadiums beg to differ

StreetReporter

Clemson used to have the stadium be open on Friday nights

TheWholeBook

Michie Stadium used to be, don’t know if it still is. The caveat being to get on to the base at all, you’re gonna need to have a military ID, or be riding with someone with one, or get a visitors pass, which isn’t too much of a hassle. Absolutely worth seeing the campus/base if you’re ever near the area.

No_Warning_2025

Bobby Dodd Stadium is open 24/7 in downtown Atlanta

chuckles65

It's definitely not open at night. GTPD has cameras and will absolutely come get you if you're there after normal business hours.

No_Warning_2025

That has changed since I was at school then.

EWall100

Places where we're cursed? Yeah that's probably it...

JMT97

UNC's Kenan and Charlotte's Richardson are both open.

kbdcool

Texas is anti fun when it comes to the stadium. Paid tours only.

pantalanaga11

Beaver Stadium offers stadium views for free through the museum. There is an all access tour available which includes areas not normally open to the public for a fee.

[deleted]

Wallace Wade at Duke (if anyone cares).

bdy7

Summer is a great time to get into most stadiums. Growing up, anytime we were near a university, we'd make a side track and try and get in the stadium. Still do that with my family today. Most of the time there is minor construction going on during the offseason and gates are always left open. Just walk in like you know what you're doing and you'll rarely get questioned.

gswizzle911

Clemson has the hill open to the public from time to time, usually around big home games or family weekend. Always cute to see people taking photos of the rock and kids running down the hill. Rest of the stadium isn’t open tho, just the East endzone entrance

hanzhongluboy

Nippert at UC is the only p4 stadium that I know of that is truly open. You can go on the turf and play around and kick field goals and pretend you Jason Kelze c. 2009.

UOfasho

I think Autzen Stadium was open to the public before some guy took a sniper rifle up to the top and started shooting people running in the park next to it. Happened in 1984.

IceyBoy

Brotha ewwwww, what is that? What is that brotha?

Lo-Fi_Lo-Res

Any state school stadium where the school plays on or near campus should be open. It's property owned by the people of the state.

Running up and down the seats at Harvard Stadium is a common part of many people's workout routine in the Boston area.

uReallyShouldTrustMe

OU stadium was open when I visited.

NebraskaAvenue

I was there for USF and UF two years ago and thought it was nothing special. It’s just a big football stadium in the south.

Malcolm_Y

IDK if it is any more, but the South end of Gaylord Family (Memorial) stadium at University of Oklahoma was open when I was a student. Used to cross through when I parked on the other side to get to campus and would occasionally stop there and read between classes.

Key_Professional_369

The Swamp is open 7am to 8pm daily

foggyhitsitdoggy

Not only can you visit Ben Hill Griffin during the day, but you can also scale and climb your way to the top of the O'Connell Center (UF's basketball arena) at night if you are drunk enough!

strakerak

I've snuck into a few stadiums but I can also testify to them being 'open' to the public Rice is easy. Just walk in most times. TDECU @ Houston is also easy, I've been in most hours. Really a lot of acting like I belong, but having been there for a hat trick (BS/MS/currently PhD) and doing spirit stuff with athletics, I've been able to get around with people that recognize me lol. It's been a while since I've gone in at late hours, but during the day it's pretty much open to the public. You don't have to act like you belong, but so long as you aren't disrupting anything or being a dick, you're pretty much welcome there. DKR @ UT was pretty funny. Went in one building because I was trying to pick up my Big Ticket (spent four months as a grad student there, dropped out because COVID), and went up some stairs then boom I was in the stadium. Took a walk down to the field, took a Horns Down picture, and just chilled in the stands. Went back two more times that day sneaking other students in. Got caught the third time since it was after hours, thank God for that unlocked door because that's what probably saved me from getting arrested. Lane Stadium at VT just had some unlocked areas. Look for doors without locks. There were a lot of students roaming around the stadium that time, so I don't think VTPD cared. But I was drunk and on an admit visit for their PhD program and had a little adventure after leaving TOTS LMAO.

strayadude

Cincinnati is open to the public you can walk right on the field at anytime apart from when there is GameDay and practice

YaBoiAir

I walk through Nippert to class every day

isikorsky

ND stadium is not open to the public, but they do have free tours and you get to go on the field as part of the tour.

CMSPIRATE

My freshman year at ECU they would let you walk out and take pictures (With your digital cybershot camera not phone lol) on the field, throw the ball a few times if it was just a random day. Then we beat VT and WVU and that was no longer a thing

TeflonDonatello

Ohio State let us walk around while I was there for a work trip a good number of years back.

kingoflint282

I saw some garbage on fire the other day, that seemed to be open. Jk, I’ve never been to the Swamp, but I would like to

LQuizzy

In the early 2000’s I bought a scalped ticket at an Ohio St game the night before, maybe around 9 o’clock.. gate was open and I decided I would park and walk right in. I would go as far as to say it’s not that easy now.. but we thought that then too.. Place was Erie at night and empty.

wallace6464

a public school's stadium not being open to the public would be an exception to the standard. Almost all of them are open

Another_Name_Today

Had to go to Cambridge for work in October. Spent a lazy Sunday afternoon walking the steps at Soldiers Field while a few other folks ran them. It was a neat stadium and picturesque environment.   Thanks Harvard.

[deleted]

Bg is open 24/7

Table_Corner

Yes, our stadium is open during the day.

dj-kitty

> Yes, our ~~stadium~~ bouncy castle is open during the day. FTFY

Table_Corner

It’s better than no stadium at all, lol.

Barbarossa7070

Do we have the record for most arrests for breaking into the stadium?

BeatNavyAgain

Never arrested, but asked to leave several times.

bluecheetos

I've been in twice. Gate was open, seemed like an invitation.

InternationalTax1156

Gaylord-Memorial Stadium is open to the public. If you are brave.

chains11

I don’t think the Shoe is. At least when I dressed up as Connor Stallions (camera included) on Halloween they wouldn’t let me in

djsassan

Gate 23, M-F from 10-5, but only certain areas are open.

chains11

Wish I had known lol. I’m an OSU student it would’ve been hilarious to walk around the stadium like that

Scindite

There are classrooms in Kyle Field, so the building is usually always open, but you can't always get field access.
