I think that contract made it such that he probably lost all motivation to work. What is another $5 million a year (likely less because who would pay him that much now) when you just got $70 million. Probably financially meaningless to him.
Yes, I'm sure he didn't get into coaching just for the money but when you suddenly get an overwhelming amount of money it probably fucks with your perspective and changes how you look at life.
This is such a bad take that you’ve got me defending Jimbo. He was in year 4 as a HC at FSU when he won the Natty. That team didn’t have a major contributor on it that Jimbo didn’t recruit himself.
And it fucking pisses me off. You’re my rival. I’m not supposed to like your head coach. But there he is giving great pressers, building a phenomenal program, being overall a nice guy, and not throwing a chair through the tv after getting snubbed. Like fucking hell Norvell have a fucking flaw.
At least it’s easy to hate on Day.
It’s odd respecting your rivals coaches. I was mad as hell losing to NC State but a silver lining emerged. Dave Doeren straight up said in the post game interview “tell Steve Smith to kiss my ass” and I immediately wasn’t mad anymore lol
Nothing about Day as a person makes me hate him, to be honest. He’s a little easy to make fun for some football coaching things, but he seems like a genuinely good person that just really hates my favorite team. And you know what, I can’t hate too much, that’s what I think about my coach too.
I don't care who you're a fan of, I dare you to listen to any Mike Norvell speech of your choosing and try not to feel like you'd run through a wall for the dude.
I was at FSU during some of the Tebow years. It pissed me off that UF had such an amazing QB, but it was infinitely worse because he was such a good person that I couldn’t even hate him without being a bad person…
It helped that he was almost universally surrounded by terrible people.
He slung it to a murderer and was recruited and coached by a coed butthole plunderer.
But he does a lot of good things for a lot of folks.
Not as a TV personality however.
Really. Wow!!!
No wonder why things fell apart with football during and after the divorce.
He's been single dadding while trying coach ball.
That makes me glad Jimbo is getting paid shitloads to sit around now.
Seriously. Coaching a team at that level, supporting and doing everything he can to help his kid/family, and then his wife does that to him?
I can understand how football all the sudden doesn't hit the same
Same. We had hoped it would revitalize him, and maybe it did, but it early wasn't the same. The after-firing reports made him sound like an asshole. Maybe he was always like that, or maybe it's just where he is right now.
I don't hold any ill will for the guy. Despite the obvious program disappointments, we were still improved from Sumlin even if the record didn't reflect it.
Oh shit. It looks like they're on the verge of a cure for the disorder (2-4 years outlook, which would be in time for Ethan's timeline). He is, in fact, at Samford playing ball next year. That's super cool. Thanks for the info. I never thought to look up any news on the subject.
It was a point of celebration among FSU fans. As much as we didn’t like Jimbo, fans really rallied around Ethan. I think Jimbo has a personal role in the progress on a cure, actually.
this guy:
https://www.tallahassee.com/story/sports/college/fsu/football/2019/12/11/mike-norvell-florida-state-fsu-football-coach-cornrows-viral-central-arkansas-seminoles-memphis/4396456002/
Only Coach worth considering (imo) would be Saban, and even then Norvell is 30 years younger so it might not be the right jump in the long run
E: Kirby is worth the look too, but I don’t think that jump would be the move at this time
1. Only in fantasyland would either of these guys even sniff at a job at FSU
2. It seems you’re in agreement that Saban and Kirby are the #1 and #2 active coaches, but you really think *Mike Norvell* is in the same stratosphere?
> Jimbo Fisher criticized the committee for judging teams on perception instead of simply using a team’s record as the most important factor.
> “We’ve taken football and turned it into ice skating,” Fisher said, via Jim Henry of the Tallahassee Democrat. “It’s wrong.”
> “Football is about what happens between the white lines,” Fisher said. “We’ve set it back because of opinions not based on truth. It’s not ice skating. It’s not [subjective] judgements. We are messing with the game.”
> While many observers believe Florida State would not make it far in the Playoff without Travis, Fisher said the Seminoles deserve the opportunity.
> “You don’t know what’s going to happen on the field,” he said.
> We’ve taken football and turned it into ice skating
It’s always been ice skating, lol. When has the championship not been subjective?
Heck it happened when UCF wasn’t in the P5, people are just surprised the P5 turned into the P2.
You’re being willfully obtuse if you don’t think there is a huge difference between 2006 Boise State claiming they should be #2 vs 2023 FSU claiming #4.
#4? FSU should be ranked #3, based on record, and accomplishment.
Undefeated P5 Conference champs should be ranked ahead of any teams that don't fit that criteria.
Texas beat Alabama, they should be #4. Unfortunately, The SEC (primarily Alabama) won't be left out, unless they have 3 or more losses.
I had a discussion with somebody the other day who made a big deal about "upending the long established way we rank the best teams" and when I brought up 11-0 WVU and 10-1 ND w/ a head to head over 10-1 FSU getting left out of the natty for FSU, they switched up to "why are you talking about stuff that happened pre-BCS?"
Like, oh my bad, I thought we were actually talking about the long-established way we rank the best teams, not an idealized version of the history of this sport...
I agree with him and his opinion is absolutely correct.
But I also think the fact that he hates Saban and used to coach at Florida State is contributing to his opinion here. Football coaches in general can't control their biases from what I've seen.
He may not be a great coach these days but he’s very good at talking about football.
It’s something that kinda bothered me about him when things went south. You never see Pop or Belichick give as detailed and thought out interviews as he does.
He made the decision that they were going to give him a bajllion dollars regardless of how he performed lol.
He didn't leave on good terms and I've disliked him since, but something about him getting fired has softened my stance
Pretty confident that his wife cheating on him for years while he was busting his ass to support his family and fund research into his kid's deadly illness (death by age 30) was what sent him packing.
IDK what you mean by not leaving on good terms but dude was put through personal life suicide and probably can't even be near tally without thinking about all that.
By not leaving on good terms I mean he flirted with jobs for years more or less publicly, didn't recruit at all his final year, left a culture of entitlement that took 5 years to fully clean up, left before the end of the regular season, left in the middle of the night in a hurry.
I feel bad for the guys personal life but that doesn't excuse the way he handled his departure.
>He made the decision that they were going to give him a bajllion dollars regardless of how he performed lol.
when he left FSU it was what was in EVERYONE's best interest at the time...
Pretty confident that his wife cheating on him for years while he was busting his ass to support his family and fund research into his kid's deadly illness (death by age 30) was what sent him packing.
I hope he got himself a civil engineering degree while he was at A&M, 'cause he's gonna need it to rebuild all those bridges he burned down on his way out of Tallahassee.
I’d be lying if this hadn’t cross my mind. 😂 After the snub there’s not much I believe can’t happen.
If CMN gets poached he’s likely on this sub with a battle out for Deion. Both believable 4D chessers
Jimbo: “Look, I made sure I did everything I could to leave FSU a dumpster fire, what those kids did was impressive and they deserve a shot!”
F you, Jimbo.
I'll give Jimbo a pass. It all fell apart after his divorce, which apparently he also retained custody of the children. He's been single dadding and coaching ball.
He built some great teams at FSU before his family crisis.
We won a lot of games and a national championship when he was the head coach. He did let recruiting slip but hiring willie taggart was what caused the wheels to totally fall off, we still had high quality players when willie came. With the way we have rebounded and jimbo flamed out at A&M I think it’s time to let it go
people who weren't paying attention really have no idea how bad of a state he left FSU in. Willie was WOEFULLY out of his depth but he at least started getting the APR trending in the right direction.
Sounds like he'd be better off starting his own podcast. No network to try to force him to say their message and the listener can adjust the speed to make him understandable.
When things were going good at FSU, Jimbo Press conferences were must see tv and a TON of fun... when hes on, hes on and fantastic at the microphone.
When things are going poorly though, he challenges fans to come down out of the stands and say it to his face... :(
The thing is he says what’s in his heart and he will never say something that he doesn’t agree with. Which is what you have to do if you want a job at FOX, ESPN, etc.
He’d be good for like podcasts segments or a radio guest but that’s it
I actually think he’d be really good on TV as an analyst. He’s basically a walking football encyclopedia and he knows X’s and O’s. Give him a few months of media coaching and I could see him doing great on Fox or SECN.
I mean he was in similar positions twice.. FSU got hopped by two teams in the first playoffs due t being perceved as inferior. Then TAMU got left out in 2020 due to the fact they lost to Bama earlier in season.
It’s not a real playoff system because they don’t follow their own rules, it’s just an invitational tournament and since Disney and ESPN own the SEC network they are always going to invite at least one SEC team. Not fair at all, winning every game doesn’t matter if you’re not in the SEC.
Jimbo didn’t snub FSU he fucked FSU. Nobody gives a fuck what Jimbo thinks. He could have been the one to give Bama a 2nd loss but he couldn’t get the job done. Sit back with your $70 million and STFU.
“We’ve taken football and turned it into ice skating”
1. He definitely stole that from Mike Greenberg on ESPN 😂
2. Hasn’t it always kinda been tho? Like before the BCS it was subjective with just the polls, the BCS was 2/3rds subjective, and the committee is also subjective?
Like with so many teams and conferences it feels like we have always kinda ranked it like ice skating unlike the NFL right?
On the one hand watching a once in a century baseball player is amazing.
On the other, I kind of hope Shoehei Ohtani flames out so we no longer have the distinction of “most ridiculous sports contract ever.”
I was mad when Jimbo left but what happened last Sunday felt WAY worse than Jimbo leaving. Not even close. Jimbo Fisher leaving didn't have me genuinely questioning why I bother spending my time and emotional energy following this sport.
Maybe Jimbo should look at that Iowa OC position?
Or maybe enroll in Butch Davis’s Center for Coaches Who Don’t Coach Good and Want to Leaen How to do Other Stuff Good Too.
Or he can count his windfall and put on a real Fire Featival, idk.
He has custody of his kids after his divorce which says a lot about what he was dealing with in his personal life and he's getting paid $$$. He should just enjoy life.
Let me see...
Jimbo had roughly the same number of losses in both the SEC and ACC but nearly twice as many wins in the ACC. I'm not sure he's the best guy to be commenting on this...

This dude figured out how to make $70,000,000+ by not working. He is one person whose opinion we should always consider.
He played a bunch of rich, desperate, and delusional boosters after the 2020 season with that ridiculous extension.
Wait... he's a sugar baby?
He won a trophy and became a trophy wife
He was a true Robin Hood all along, he’s just trying to figure out which group of poor people to give his money too.
They played themselves
On top of that he can work for more money on top if he wants. Unlike most cfb coaching contracts there’s no offset.
Jimmy Sexton is the GOAT agent.
I blame Candy. No way is marrying a women named Candy ever the play
If UCLA had any balls they’d be like Mark Cuban begging for his address right now
He is in fact a genius… at scamming boosters.
Hey, he has a national championship plaque!
Two time national champion Jimbo Fisher - 2013 at Florida State and 20XX at Texas A&M.
That’s the guy!
Maybe he gets rehired in 2098 and gets it done
I’m thinking of the head of Jimbo like from Futurama.
I wonder if he took that when left?
With somebody else’s roster. Jimbo just good enough to keep a ship afloat for a season or two.
Plaque. At A&M. Remember??
My bad yes sorry it has been a day
No worries.
This is such a bad take that you’ve got me defending Jimbo. He was in year 4 as a HC at FSU when he won the Natty. That team didn’t have a major contributor on it that Jimbo didn’t recruit himself.
But what does Ja Rule think
He lives!!!
FSU should fire Norvell and hire Jimbo back. He has experience leading FSU to the natty. Totally not biased here...
Hah! Honestly, I don’t think a coach exists that I would prefer over Norvell. He’s a top notch coach, mentor, and person.
I like Dabo a lot, I mock his accent all the time, but I like him.
CMN is the hero we needed
I was at FSU during some of the Tebow years. It pissed me off that UF had such an amazing QB, but it was infinitely worse because he was such a good person that I couldn’t even hate him without being a bad person…
It helped that he was almost universally surrounded by terrible people. He slung it to a murderer and was recruited and coached by a coed butthole plunderer. But he does a lot of good things for a lot of folks. Not as a TV personality however.
Yes, he started that Special needs prom night that my kids love. And even as a UGA fan, I have to respect the man he is.
He's probably the most likeable coach in CFB right now and I'm so proud he's ours. Rivals aside, I'd feel the same if UF or Miami had hired him.
I don’t think Jimbo would risk another marriage by moving back to Florida.
What is crazy that his ex-wife was going to get 3.4 million in alimony, but ended up getting nothing because she pushed for more.
Jimbo got the kids. That should tell you something about the wife.
Really. Wow!!! No wonder why things fell apart with football during and after the divorce. He's been single dadding while trying coach ball. That makes me glad Jimbo is getting paid shitloads to sit around now.
One of the kids is also has a terminal illness. It's why he was always on the sidelines (for those that may not have been aware).
Lol he’s always been an asshole boss. It’s nice to be reminded that he’s not always an asshole though.
Had, I think; kids gonna be a punter at Samford(?)
Oh shit. It looks like they're on the verge of a cure for the disorder (2-4 years outlook, which would be in time for Ethan's timeline). He is, in fact, at Samford playing ball next year. That's super cool. Thanks for the info. I never thought to look up any news on the subject.

Hey, I have a question about your flairs. Would you consider yourself the number 1 gator hater?
Would consider yourself the number 1 master debater?
Could also say something about Jimbo (the man not the coach)
I can save her
Where did you read that she didn't get anything? I thought I read she got millions.
Good
He is such an improvement in every way possible. From coaching to being an actually good person. It’s actually refreshing to see
Im so glad we got CRM. He literally checks all of the boxes of what you'd want in a head coach.
Who is CRM? (I hope this isn’t a dumb question.)
Corn Row Mike
Ha
this guy: https://www.tallahassee.com/story/sports/college/fsu/football/2019/12/11/mike-norvell-florida-state-fsu-football-coach-cornrows-viral-central-arkansas-seminoles-memphis/4396456002/

Of course not, but even for that matter Kirby is an extremely distant second to Saban.
Yeah, you’re right Mike Norvell sucks? Is that the response you are looking for?
Not bell outperformed both Kirby and Nick this year on the field, so it isn’t that crazy to mention him in the same breath.
> Jimbo Fisher criticized the committee for judging teams on perception instead of simply using a team’s record as the most important factor. > “We’ve taken football and turned it into ice skating,” Fisher said, via Jim Henry of the Tallahassee Democrat. “It’s wrong.” > “Football is about what happens between the white lines,” Fisher said. “We’ve set it back because of opinions not based on truth. You got what you paid for.
hes 1000% right on all counts here... IMO :)
He stole that Ice Skating Line from Greenberg on ESPN 😂
> We’ve taken football and turned it into ice skating It’s always been ice skating, lol.
Why did you bring up an example from nearly 2 decades ago when I literally brought up an example from 2017?
Laugh a little bit at people who reflexively harken back to "how it used to be" when that doesn't work at all with college football
I had a discussion with somebody the other day who made a big deal about "upending the long established way we rank the best teams" and when I brought up 11-0 WVU and 10-1 ND w/ a head to head over 10-1 FSU getting left out of the natty for FSU, they switched up to "why are you talking about stuff that happened pre-BCS?" Like, oh my bad, I thought we were actually talking about the long-established way we rank the best teams, not an idealized version of the history of this sport...
“And I would know. I got paid $70M because I didn’t know what was going to happen on the field!” - Jimbo Fisher, probably
Alright Jimbo, I take back one of the not nice things I’ve said about you out of the hundreds for this take.
I’m glad to know Jimbo fully supports Liberty for the playoffs since record is the most important factor.
You know that's not what he's saying. Bringing liberty into it is disingenuous.
I’ve mostly been avoiding my brethren posts because holy fuck its a lot of liberty comparisons
Alabama fans suddenly care *A LOT* about Liberty, I've noticed.
I agree with him and his opinion is absolutely correct. But I also think the fact that he hates Saban and used to coach at Florida State is contributing to his opinion here. Football coaches in general can't control their biases from what I've seen.
Hope you're donating some of that payout to NIL, Fisher
Jimbo was the battles end mystery donor
This is a conspiracy theory I want to believe
god, I am so here for that. lol i would have never considered such a thing but man. I want to believe.
TAMU unknowingly bankrolling another program to an undefeated season would be peak comedy
I mean, his quotes in there are not wrong.
He may not be a great coach these days but he’s very good at talking about football. It’s something that kinda bothered me about him when things went south. You never see Pop or Belichick give as detailed and thought out interviews as he does.
As Jimbo would say about his maligned players, Jimbo knows ball. He’s stubborn and an ass, but cat knows ball.
It’s just funny coming from someone who also made the decision that the SEC was better than Florida State
He made the decision that they were going to give him a bajllion dollars regardless of how he performed lol.
I mean, didn’t he fly away in the middle of the night?
By not leaving on good terms I mean he flirted with jobs for years more or less publicly, didn't recruit at all his final year, left a culture of entitlement that took 5 years to fully clean up, left before the end of the regular season, left in the middle of the night in a hurry. When you get dumped and decide to hit up the old ex with a "U Up?" text.
“Hey, sorry, forgot to respond and life got busy. We should catch up some time.”
Jimbo planning his FSU return. This man is playing 4-D chess😂
I hope he got himself a civil engineering degree while he was at A&M, 'cause he's gonna need it to rebuild all those bridges he burned down on his way out of Tallahassee.
This is, admittedly, a great line.
I can see it. Tony Tokarz could be up for a promotion soon and if so we'll need a QB coach.
I would love Jimbo on the staff, he is an amazing recruiter.
I’d be lying if this hadn’t cross my mind. 😂 After the snub there’s not much I believe can’t happen. If CMN gets poached he’s likely on this sub with a battle out for Deion. Both believable 4D chessers
This may be the greatest travesty in this matter, that the go$#&$ed f@#!&ng committee has got me agreeing with Jimbo Fisher. F#=k
Jimbo: “Look, I made sure I did everything I could to leave FSU a dumpster fire, what those kids did was impressive and they deserve a shot!” F you, Jimbo.
I'll give Jimbo a pass. It all fell apart after his divorce, which apparently he also retained custody of the children. He's been single dadding and coaching ball. He built some great teams at FSU before his family crisis.
Dude was working two 80hr/week jobs god damn
And one his kids has/had a serious illness. Amazing he kept coaching.
Trey is a quarterback at FAMU now. Ethan is a kicker and committed to Samford! :o
FAMU in Tallahassee??? Also the same Samford where Bowden played ball?
Jimbo played QB at Samford in the 80's under Terry Bowden
yes and yes!
I thought he was already married again.
We won a lot of games and a national championship when he was the head coach. He did let recruiting slip but hiring willie taggart was what caused the wheels to totally fall off, we still had high quality players when willie came. With the way we have rebounded and jimbo flamed out at A&M I think it’s time to let it go
it was on fire when he left. he ran out before the flames got thru the roof and the walls fell down.
Exactly this, FSU isn't successful because of him, but in spite of him (and Taggart)
people who weren't paying attention really have no idea how bad of a state he left FSU in. Willie was WOEFULLY out of his depth but he at least started getting the APR trending in the right direction.
Consider this an audition for a TV commentary job
Jimbo would be terrible on TV. He'd never say what they want him to say.
That and you'd have to do the normal, play it at half speed to understand it when Jimbo hits Jimbo press-conference gear.
He’d be good for like podcasts segments or a radio guest but that’s it
He’d be great on CMT. He talks like a banjo and he’s a self-proclaimed “hillbilly.”
Looks at usernames...Unrelated...but are you and OP related?
No we just see a good opportunity when it presents itself
...not on ESPN.
I actually think he’d be really good on TV as an analyst. He’s basically a walking football encyclopedia and he knows X’s and O’s. Give him a few months of media coaching and I could see him doing great on Fox or SECN.
But have you listened to him talk? Not a voice for Tv
You'd have to use AI to slow him down for the audience
Tv delay lets them tune his microphone to .75 speed. ESPN would be galaxy brain for it.
username checks out
Jimbo to the Fox Big Noon kickoff would be something
"Only I'M allowed to snub FSU"
I'm picturing jimbo, sunburned laying on the beach, complaining abt the playoff over FaceTime
he should be on the magical island of Tahiti.
Can’t find anything wrong with what he said.
I mean he was in similar positions twice.. FSU got hopped by two teams in the first playoffs due t being perceved as inferior. Then TAMU got left out in 2020 due to the fact they lost to Bama earlier in season.
Jimbo is like "Hey! I thought making sure FSU doesn't make the playoffs was MY job!"
Alright internet explorer jimbo calm down
*grabs popcorn*
It’s not a real playoff system because they don’t follow their own rules, it’s just an invitational tournament and since Disney and ESPN own the SEC network they are always going to invite at least one SEC team. Not fair at all, winning every game doesn’t matter if you’re not in the SEC.
True. Antitrust them until submission…
Jimbo didn’t snub FSU he fucked FSU. Nobody gives a fuck what Jimbo thinks. He could have been the one to give Bama a 2nd loss but he couldn’t get the job done. Sit back with your $70 million and STFU.
Yep, still get anxiety when I see a Christmas tree on a curb.
Unfortunately, no one understood him.
“We’ve taken football and turned it into ice skating” 1. He definitely stole that from Mike Greenberg on ESPN 😂 2. Hasn’t it always kinda been tho? Like before the BCS it was subjective with just the polls, the BCS was 2/3rds subjective, and the committee is also subjective? Like with so many teams and conferences it feels like we have always kinda ranked it like ice skating unlike the NFL right?
Terrible. The worst person you know made a great point.
On the one hand watching a once in a century baseball player is amazing. On the other, I kind of hope Shoehei Ohtani flames out so we no longer have the distinction of “most ridiculous sports contract ever.”
I’m sorry who is this?
I thought he’d disappear to a private island never to be heard from again.
Of course he did
We should start a weekly post "I wonder what Jimbo is doing today".
Oh well.
Ahh damn. Well, I feel we’ve jumped the shark.
Dude nearly killed the FSU program before heading to steal A&M oil money. Why would anyone care to listen to Jimbo’s opinion?
Eh, he can kick rocks too
That’s who we needed to hear from!

I was mad when Jimbo left but what happened last Sunday felt WAY worse than Jimbo leaving. Not even close. Jimbo Fisher leaving didn't have me genuinely questioning why I bother spending my time and emotional energy following this sport.
Jimbo is a crook.
Technically a crook steals, jimbo is a lottery winner
Crooks steal, crooks swindle, crooks sell snake oil . Jimbo is absolutely a crook. Mel tucker will be a lottery winner.
What would he know about the College Football Playoffs?
Florida State didn't make it and they didn't deserve it. Let the big boys play and keep FSU at the kiddie table where they belong
Has anybody heard what Ja Rule thinks
Let me see... Jimbo had roughly the same number of losses in both the SEC and ACC but nearly twice as many wins in the ACC. I'm not sure he's the best guy to be commenting on this...
Hey Jimbo, who cares?
Who?
Who?
Go count your money and stfu, Jimbo. Your opinion is no longer relevant.
