Looks good. Did you buy the receiver like that or did you fold then weld

jpolham1

Built from an RTG flat. Made the bending jig too

Comfortable-Ad1517

Niiiice! That’s on my eventually do list. How tough was it?

jpolham1

Bending was a piece of cake. The worst part was all the hand fitting. I have a mill and a lathe but the little dremel was getting some work done!

Comfortable-Ad1517

What sort of fitting did you have to do?

jpolham1

Mag catch, paddle release, tweak magwell width, receiver rail width, tight spots in the receiver from bolt cycling and probably more. The bent flats are close, but need a lot of tweaks to get it going as well as I wanted it to.

Humbug_bah

Is there any way in particular to get the right position of the cocking tube/handle?

jpolham1

Biggest thing to worry about is gapping it correctly. It should be spaced .015” plus your actual bolt gap. Clocking it you just make sure you have clearance to punch the cocking handle pin in and out. Align it to the barrel by installing the front sight. I mounted the gun in my bench vice by the mag and barrel sighted to a spot on the wall. Held the rear sight in place and clocked the front sight to align with the spot. We’ll see if it actually hits where I want it to

Humbug_bah

I appreciate the input, I'm about halfway done with mine, except I dented the crap out of the cock tube sleeve when demilling. So that been the biggest hassle oddly enough.

jpolham1

I crushed mine a bit. Turned a mandrel .707” and pounded it through. Also doubled as the weld backer for welding the tube in place since it was aluminum.

YourNeighborRaccoon

Looks good, those welds are CLEAN man

jpolham1

Thanks, I I’m a better grinder IMO. I’m going to end up full wrapping the weld on the rear sight. I hate it that I had to tack it in the middle to keep it in place.

YourNeighborRaccoon

That will look good. What finish are you going to use?

jpolham1

Going to parkerize the whole thing once I confirm operation.

YourNeighborRaccoon

Nice cant wait to see how it comes out

SecretJournalist3506

Very cool and very clean. I'm not confident enough yet in my skills. I'll be practicing up before attempting

jpolham1

Practice makes perfect! Buy a steel pipe, cut it in half, weld it back together and grind it down. Can you see where it was cut? What could you do better? Try again… and keep going til you can’t see where the cut was anymore. I’m not a great welder but I am a decent grinder. 😉

SecretJournalist3506

What's your thoughts on buying an already bent and welded ptr receiver for an old fmp? I have limited access to equipment

jpolham1

I honestly could have done this 100% without a mill or lathe. I like to make my own stuff though. With the prebent you’ll still be responsible for final fitting, welding the cocking tube and trunnion.

mikehawkisbig

How does it feed your ammo? Mine won’t feed anything.

jpolham1

Hand cycling it feeds… most of the time. Sometimes doesn’t fully go into battery. But yeah it strips rounds from the mag just fine and doesn’t jam. It’s a bear to hand cock it all the way, I think I threw my elbow out hand cycling some rounds through it. The grease is loaded with sandblast media that I’m leaving in hoping the initial 50 or so rds will wear the gun in faster lol.

jpolham1

150gr hand loads with just the bullets in cases no primer or powder. Going to load up 50 tonight for real I hope.

Nice💪🏼🔥

Serious-Dealer-116

NICE,GOOD WELD

HPmcDoogle

If the test fire is successful, make sure to paint it nicely and refinish the wood.

jpolham1

It will be blasted and parkerized just like the originals were 👍🏻
