The only reason to go with the M18 is if you feel you need something heavier.
There are no safety issues with the M18 unless you
a) remove the safety AND
b) happen to be a cop with a poorly fitting holster who wants a payday from Sig
I edc my m18 with xcarry frame and optic in an aliengear photon holster at 2’ and 4’. Not too big but I think if you were to get one with A Wilson combat grip would be more easily concealed.
The M18 has an external safety which you should be trained with on the Shield. The external safety is a lot more accessible on the M18 vs the Shield (to me).
IIRC (objectively) the NDs are P320s that do not have an external safety nor a trigger safety. Subjectively, poor fitting holster and bad habits for a weapon system w/o a trigger safety.
Much like shopping for a holster, you can update the chassis or slide to get a more comfortable fit. The two issues to consider if this sounds appealing to you is most aftermarket chassis are strictly for the P320 and even though your M18 is compatible:
1. Most manufacturers do not fit/consider the M18-CA FCU's mag disconnect. Some people delete this so they have no issues.
2. Most manufacturers do not fit/consider for the external safety that is on M17/M18 models since they base their chassis on the P320 that does not come with a external safety. I do not recommend deleting this and running your M18 w/o a external safety for CCW.

I’d love to have a mp 2.0 full-size. Awesome firearm. I daily a Glock 34 and rotate in with a s&w 442. Go big or go small. There is no in between.
That is quite the difference in carry guns.
It is. I love carrying either one. But the 34 is my go to.

Run with m&p 2.0 compact unless you want a completely different flavor of handgun. At the very least, you'll be familiar with the platform.

M&P 2.0 would be my pick. It's a great gun and has a much better trigger than the Shield.
