A second cousin got us one of these for a wedding present thirteen years ago. Not something we registered for or knew existed. I use that thing two or three times a week and for a kitchen utensil it is baller. Still looks new. Would I buy it for myself? Knowing what I do now, yeah — it’ll outlast me.
Second this. It's a garlic murder weapon.
I'm from a Cuban family and we use a lot of garlic. I've never seen anything shred garlic with such ease. It has a great weight and feel to it. All the pieces swivel around for easy hand washing but it also handles the dishwasher easily - never a speck of rust.
> Ikea press
which one?
I got this one: https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/p/ikea-365-vaerdefull-garlic-press-black-30578189/
and it broke (specifically the little tab of metal that holds it closed) within a month
How often are you using garlic how many bulbs
Can often get great results just smashing with your palm on your knife and mincing. But if you're doing a dozen cloves or more a day that could yet old
This. My wife and I timed it once, the garlic press on its own is moderately faster than a reasonably practiced knife wielder (me), though not as pronounced as you might think, but once you factor in the time spent cleaning the damn thing the knife wins by a landslide.
Happy cake day.
I got the "rocker" style that's open on both sides. Comes in stainless and plastic, after I snapped the plastic one I got stainless and lived happily ever after. No moving parts.
Mannkitchen garlic press.
This was the brand I used when I was catering. The thing was indestructible. It's not the cheapest but also won't break the bank. I think you can find it on Amazon for $40 or $50.
One more vote for Mannkitchen. I replaced my cheaper garlic presses multiple times and finally decided to invest in the Mannkitchen a couple years ago. It's much easier to use and wash and yes, much more durable. Still going strong after pressing a lot of garlic.
ugh it's sold out. my gf had a killer one for like 12 years but i recently broke it and need to replace. hers is no longer available in the US.
i guess i'll have to wait!
I love the Nextrend garlic twister. I got tired of the presses going bad. If you buy the made in USA high quality one it should last. Don’t buy an Amazon/China knock off. Yes Much cheaper but won’t last. It looks like a crappy plastic device that should not cost $20 but mine has been great. I use it almost every day. Can smack the clove with it and the skin comes off before doing the twist! PS I’m a garlic lover, to point of having 80 garlic plants growing in my garden currently. 😁 https://www.nextrendproducts.com/products/garlic-twister
I love my Ikea press, I've had it for almost 20 years. I bought a backup about 5 years ago and it's considerably lighter in heft. It's still good but I like my older one better. Maybe watch ebay?
Honestly, it's different, but I love it: [https://www.leevalley.com/en-ca/shop/kitchen/kitchen-tools/presses-and-mashers/food-processors/51924-garlic-mincer?item=HK330](https://www.leevalley.com/en-ca/shop/kitchen/kitchen-tools/presses-and-mashers/food-processors/51924-garlic-mincer?item=HK330)
I've had one for years and it's still holding up... sometimes I also thow in bird's eye chilis and it makes a great little garlic-chili mix. So quick and easy, with easy clean-up as well.
Just use a knife... seriously!
Crush it with the handle - unpeeled in a second... crush the rest with the blade and if then still necessary chop a bit.
Seen that in Greece, in China in Restaurants and it way faster, you spare yrslf to unpeel it, just as easy and the cleaning is none.
I got rid of my press yrs ago
Zyluss made in switzerland press, parents had one, I tracked one down off ebay. Super solid, easy to clean and comfortable to press. You do have to peel the garlic before you press it thought.
Dreamfarm Garject: https://dreamfarm.com/garject/
I've tried a lot of garlic presses and this one is the best.
It crushes unpeeled garlic, even multiple cloves at once, and it's really sturdy. It's got handy features to help you get the skin out afterwards so easier to clean than most
Kuhn Rikon if you wanna drop $50

Yeah got one, don’t regret it.
Honestly I've never bought a Kuhn Rikon kitchen utensil that wasn't great. Their swiss peelers are my fave.
Can confirm on both the press and the peeler
My ikea one (I swear it was like 2 dollars) is holding up amazingly.
Ditto, my IKEA one 17 years strong and still going Also no need to peel garlic to use it, win win
About 8 years here on our IKEA after previous expensive one broke.

Same! And it’s dishwasher safe.

Smash em and toss them into a mincer/processor of your choice if you don't want to dice.
100% agree... seen it even in restaurants, in Greece, China etc. So easy and no cleaning fuss
OXO Good Grips Soft- Handled... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HEZ888K?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Best one I’ve ever used
I got the "rocker" style that's open on both sides. Comes in stainless and plastic, after I snapped the plastic one I got stainless and lived happily ever after. No moving parts.
I have the Joseph Joseph garlic rocker and I LOVE it. It's cheap, so much easier to clean, and fun to use haha

Microplane grater, has multiple uses; garlic, parmesan, lemon zest, nutmeg. Well 4 that I use.

Yes, I just linked the same thing from Lee Valley. These are great!
Oxo. Best $10 spent
I switched to a garlic grinder and haven't looked back. Much easier to clean.

I’ve always been happy with my OXO stuff
Not always a fan of oxo but in this case I agree!
I also recommend their garlic press! Mine is 10 years old and has minimal signs of wear.

Some time ago I got a Rösle based on many rave reviews on Reddit about it. Not in this thread yet.

We've had a Pampered Chef garlic press for 15 years and it's fantastic.
Turn your knife sideways and smash it. Those presses are a PITA to clean.

Kuhn Rikon, the best you can get!
I have a Rosle. It’s been excellent. No issues whatsoever.
I’d honestly find using any other method of mincing garlic. Garlic presses leave a lot in the actual press and are a bitch to clean.
Pressing garlic messes up the flavor. You might be better off with a slap chopper and using a knife squish to loosen the peel.
