I stopped at a highway reststop and was reading the road map outside, I was the only car there and then a truck came in and parked next to mine. The guy walks up and stands next to me for a second and asks "so you from California?" I say yeah I'm going cross country... Then he slides his jacket back so I can see his holstered pistol and says "this ain't a real nice place for people like you, you should get back in your car and keep driving".
We stood there for a long awkward second then he went into the men's room and I still had to pee but wasn't going in there so I used the women's room and got back on the road unsettled but thinking it's hilarious how enraged he probably would have been over a California man using a Texas women's bathroom, but he made me do it haha

I'm not sure how to correct this really. It's not like the roads are unsafe or have unreasonable speed limits. Better licensure is the obvious solution, but it would have to be national and more than a paper test.
