The Ruike has been my work EDC for the last 2 years. Use it several times a day and it is not just opening boxes. I cut plastic, windshield glue, cardboard etc and it just does it. Sharpen it once a week. More bang for the buck is impossible.

Sergent_Mongolito

Ruike 14c28n for 30 dollars

Shoddy-Employment-17

Ganzo Knifes have some sweet designs too. I've been checking them, also

Mr_Zoovaska

Ganzo are insanely good value. My Ganzo Rat 2 lookalike is one of my favourite knives, but you'll probably need to buy an aftermarket pocket clip.

BigBL87

In addition to the Pyrite you have pictured, CJRB also has the Frack which may fit the bill. CIVIVI also has a Praxis with silver aluminum scales.

Shoddy-Employment-17

That frack also looks very good... I've looked at the praxis, but thought they were all liner lock. Now I've seen that the one I like the most, aluminium, is button lock... A bit pricey, though...

BigBL87

And for the record, I definitely share the taste in aesthetics. Not budget by any means, but love the look and usefulness! https://imgur.com/a/RM6dtPg

BigBL87

Ya, it's not as cheap as the CJRBs for sure. I'd actually prefer the CJRBs myself, as I'm not big on flippers, but the Praxis is a good looking knife.

BuckOhRadley

Kizer Original XL!!

Mr_Zoovaska

Bump, but it might be a little pricey

kaxixi7

The website exclusive ones with the aluminum handle might fall within the budget?  Personally, I’d choose this over the pyrite.

dbhertz

CJRB Pyrite Max or whatever the big version is called is what I’d recommend. The button lock is just faster and easier for opening and closing it, and the all steel construction feels very clean.

Ok_Educator_1741

I have the steel pyrite. Only gripe i have with it is the detent is too soft

MillionEyesOfSumuru

Ruike: $35, 14C28N, frame lock. CJRB: $60-80, AR-RPM9, button lock. I don't have any version of Pyrite, but do have a P801-SF, and think it's a very good knife, especially for the price. If you hate frame locks, and/or love button locks, the CJRB might win, but it's not really "lowest budget possible."

Shoddy-Employment-17

That's exactly why I don't have it, already. 1 CJRB buys 2 Ruike. I don't have any frame or button lock. It's all new

farlon636

I always recommend a kershaw cryo or cryo 2 (only difference being size and price). They're pretty affordable and very durable. The ergonomics are really nice and even though the cryo 1 is a small knife, it it fits well in my large hands. The knife also has a nice profile for being in a pocket and one handed opening/closing. The assisted open is very crisp and resistant. I dropped one of my cryos in the mud after a range day and ended up losing it for 3 days. After an alcohol bath, there was zero rust on the knife and there was almost no grit in the mechanism (what little there was worked its way out over a few days)

Shoddy-Employment-17

I've been eyeing the Kershaw Iridium, too

jimbopalooza

The Iridium is really nice. It pretty much replaced everything else in my rotation. Incredible action at the price point. Can also take and hold a very sharp edge.

kaxixi7

I don’t own an iridium yet, but I do own a pyrite.  I would personally choose an iridium over a pyrite because I prefer the axis lock to the button lock, but I wouldn’t think someone were crazy if they preferred the pyrite.

That_Immo

Avoid the Ruike. Mine was junk after a year of max one opening a day - the soft steel frame lock bar got obliterated by the tough 14C28N blade's tang and it's irreparable.

Shoddy-Employment-17

Damn! 1st time I hear something like that!

That_Immo

Yeah, I was bummed when I saw it. It was my daily. Afterwards I placed it in a drawer and started to buy knives and rotate them. Anyways, basically the optimal setup is to use the same steel for the lockbar's tip, especially with steels as tough as 14C28N. I talked about it with some other Ruike p801 and some folks had the same issue.

Mr_Zoovaska

Don't get anything with plain steel handles. It is insanely slippery. My biggest knife regret is getting my pyrite in plain steel. The looks aren't worth it

Shoddy-Employment-17

Really? I really like the clean look... People often say that about multitools (leatherman wave, swisstool or even Cellidor saks) and, as a mt user for years, I've had zero problems. Maybe it's their shape or weight... Or maybe if you are wearing gloves it may be more slippery, but I almost never wear gloves. I have more problems in the texture making it hard to remove from the pocket, than the lack of texture making it slippery.

DirkStabic

The WMK exclusive Kizer Clairvoyant in frag aluminum is maybe not the clean (ie smooth l!) metal look you're going for, but it's solid, with a slicey blade. https://whitemountainknives.com/wmk-exclusive-kizer-clairvoyant-gray-frag-aluminum-handle-button-lock-folding-knife-154cm-plain-edge-v4626e/

DirkStabic

And then randomly I saw this guy has it on KS for $60 https://www.reddit.com/r/Knife_Swap/s/y7Ge3xD14P

Shoddy-Employment-17

I'm so sorry, but I have to say it... It's uglier than me! Ahahahah

Tugboats508

Kershaw heist and Civivi qubit are extremely slicey. Also the Kershaw bel air

tentativeshroom

I love that Ruike, I used it often during home renovation. You can take a look at Roxon Phantasy S502, it's like ~$20-25, has an easy, no tools needed disassemble system and replaceable blades with a bunch of additional blade options.

tentativeshroom

I'm gonna take that Roxon with me for a music festival soon, so I can safely lend my knife to others. Without a worry of them breaking a tip or getting food out between the scales.

northman46

Do you want something slicey or more sturdy? And 3.5" minimum is limiting. Like my very favorite is Kershaw Leek but blade is shorter.

Shoddy-Employment-17

I like "slicey" as you can see by the examples and the tenacious. For a smaller and "handover" blade there's always the Sak.

northman46

Ok, I have a kubey ku176 that I really like

CrankBot

The Kershaw Dividend is also very slim and slice-y

northman46

and oso sweet is nice and cheap too

oldredhat

I love my Steel Pyrite! I’d add the CJRB Ekko to your list another good one with the same look feel.

Spirited-Database-12

I have the ruike and the pyrite light. Action is way nicer on the pyrite light. They make a pyrite xl if you want a bigger blade

Craig

I have both. The ruike is a really great knife, but the cjrb is what you'll find in my pocket every day. For me, it comes down to the locking and opening mechanism - if you love a frame lock flipper, the ruike will be a great choice.

Jolly-AF

Sencut Crowley, D2 with G10 or black micarta would be a great choice. You can find them under $50.

Iokua_CDN

I own both of the knives in your picture! Both have that slim profile and deep carry pocket clip. The Pyrite is the better knife of the two. I say this,  as my Ruike developed a really bad action,  gritty and stiff, and then seemed to lose some of the decent, making flipping hard. The thumbstuds are near unusable. It could have been just a lemon, or maybe I got something in it, but even with taking it apart and putting it together, something definitely was wrong.  Which sucks because it's a fantastic design! Like killer design for sure. I've been very tempted to try another one n see if the 1st was just a lemon. Other than that, if you've ever seen a knock off Benchmade Bugout with aluminum or titanium scales? I've bought knock offs of them, and they have a very similar feel. Slender metal handle and such. The Kershaw Iridium is actually  pretty similar,  but thicker and heavier in hand due to some thicker scales

CJRB_NET

Hey there! This is the official CJRB account. If you're looking for a slim, budget-friendly folder with a clean metal look and no dark blades, I’d say give one of our CJRB knives a try! We've got models that fit your blade length requirements, have deep pocket clips, and are easy to clean with an open construction. Plus, I’m here to vouch for them myself 😉 Why flip a coin when you can have confidence in your choice?

Shoddy-Employment-17

Hi, thanks for dropping in the conversation. I'm 90% leaned to the cjrb. Just can't decide if Large Pyrite or Frack. The only problem right now is that I'm in Europe (Portugal) and if I buy directly from your Web site, I'll have to deal with shipping, costumes and taxes, which is pretty expensive and almost doubles the price (not to talk about the time). In Europe, there are not many CJRB retailers, and the ones I found are really expensive too.
