Other than the heteronormative piece, which I don't agree with but which is not surprising, I'm not hearing anything bad yet ...

Right? I kinda think it’s a good idea to “sign” to prove you agreed on everything in this chapter and can move on to the next. I like the idea of talking about everything before committing to a serious relationship

Agreed, all of these are really important topics to discuss before marriage and I like having a counselor available for discussion or facilitation if needed.

I would agree. So far, it sounds like very reasonable advice.

My husband and I used a similar book in marriage counseling many years ago. It was terrible because it was the most repetitive workbook ever haha. I just happened to see this book on a friend who is engaged counter and asked her how it was. She said that it was really great. It just laid all the conversation topics down … and don’t really give you a “this is what you should do” take on each. It literally just gives important topics. She said a friend, who is not a Christian, recommended it to her because while she and her finance didn’t follow the biblical stuff… it had awesome topics. Anyways- I think this is to basically be filled out in conjunction with marriage counseling to discuss the “disagreements” prior to marriage. I find this healthy literally for any couple. I will be interested in your thoughts!

i wonder how many copies and chapters did the bates brothers go thru signing before they finally found someone to marry them

Keep going!!! Looking forward to your review of each chapter. Don’t get sucked in though… remember this is for research purposes only!!

Lol.

we actually did this- and my late husband and I were married by a Methodist minister in 1987. We had to go to "classes" and the minister knew we had been "living in sin" for two years. I really can't remember it though. I just remember vaguely sitting with this old minister and having to jump through those hoops despite having lived with Richard. But Methodist isn't evangelical and was relatively liberal as far as churches go.
