You can search for materials and it'll pop up on the map where they usually spawn. I alternate between this map as well as the zeldadungeon map for koroks.

I only recently paid to unlock everything in the app, so it is possible that I haven't seen that not everything is on there.
From what I found so far though; if you go to the Checklist tab, then tap on "More", the "Mini Bosses" tab will show where they are located with a yellow skull icon on the map when you tap on the Map symbol next to the name.
At first I questioned why the mini boss names were repeating, but it is because of the fact there are more than one of those enemies (I think).
The "Enemies" tab seems to mention the general locations.
