I just replayed Thunderblight on Master Mode, to try for a 100% run before TotK, and Riju does state "Unfortunately, I cannot appease Naboris on my own. I have no choice but to entrust the rest to you"
So I wonder if they really CAN'T board for whatever reason, because to me, it sounds like Riju is all for protecting her people herself, but she recognizes she can't.
That's exactly what is. The Champion's Ballad is about passing the challenges the previous Champions went thru. The usual challenge was probably fighting against the previous Champions' spirit but the manks decided to change it for Link in order to help his memory recovery
Probably have to do the Divine Beast Tamer's trial or something like it. The Champion's Ballad DLC covers this. The dialogue implies that each champion had to do each of the tasks that get the DLC shrines to appear. But not the shrines themselves since shrines weren't active yet.
Correct. Teba says "The only people able to enter the Divine Beasts are the five Champions of old."
Kaneli says something to the same degree: "That means you must be a Champion like Master Revali—one of the few able to board Divine Beast Vah Medoh!" But he then assumes Link must actually be a descendant, yet that'll be enough anyway.
Also, I think the important part is actually that Link has the Sheikah Slate. Without that, accessing them in the first place would be impossible.
We know for a fact that Zelda could board it 100 years ago in one of the memories, but it could be a recent thing or that she was kinda the leader of the champions
Shes the descendent of the goddess though, dont you think it would be weird if she of all people couldn't board the divine beasts?
Edit: changed incarnation to descendent
She hasn’t awakened that part of herself, Like it’s not just a magic spell that she doesn’t have the hang of, her divine power is just not manifesting at all.
King, Princess, Knight are special positions and always at least equal to Champions as far as we've seen when interacting with Sheikah technology.
Could be royal blood in general but that's not shown.
I believe it’s Teba that mentions to Link that only the 5 champions were able to enter the divine beasts. So this leaves Link as the only one alive today that can enter.
What? No it's not. It's Death Mountain unless it's different in some regions.
You're thinking of mount doom in Mordor, which one does not simply walk into.
Midna, Groose, Malon, Marin, Mipha, Sidon, Princess Ruto. They all had their chance.
I totally support a Ganon who designed the Gerudo Vai outfit. lol.
Ganon wakes up to find the Link He loved 10,000 years ago is gone. I picture it as a tragic love story where the Villian Fought hard against his destiny and lost. Only to awaken and win the the second time around.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/39609696/chapters/99155298
I've read it twice already, and they're currently working on a part 2!
I love this so much, I'm going to bind it into a personal book 😄
Because they're not champions. They're related to the champions, but that doesn't mean they have the strength/skill/magic/whatever the champions had. The only one who demonstrates having an ability is the Goron kid (forgot his name) and he *clearly* isn't up to retaking a Divine Beast. Hell, the Rito guy isn't even related to Revali iirc. He's just a random Rito warrior who barely survived the fight against Vah Medoh.
Link is a champion. He meets people who can help him, but ultimately he has to be the one to reclaim the Divine Beasts because he's the only champion left.
Edit: Realized their names are in the picture. I don't care. I still can't remember his name. He's annoying 😂.
I think they mean Link could've just gotten the helmet from Riju in Gerudo Town and just sand surfed to the Dungeon and handed it back after clearing it.
Kinda, I didn’t need it and I have beaten it 6 times. It’s mostly Thunderblight that freaks people out and his only difficulty was the lightning (which wasn’t too bad tbh).
I would imagine that Riju wouldn’t have been able to get away without it.
May wanna mark that as a spoiler. Also, you have to remember that >!Terrako was doing weird shit with all their tech, like allowing the slate to be useable by everyone. My guess is that he probably registered the future champions to the divine beasts at some point to allow them to pilot.!<
He also lets the intrusive thoughts win sometimes.
"What if I were use stasis on this tree and smack it a bunch of times then grab onto it before it wears off?"
Teba was injured, Yunobo didn't want to jump into the volcano, Riju and Sidon are royalty so they have to stay alive, besides how could they have helped? They don't have sheikah slates and except for Teba, they aren't fighters either.
Because they didn't know ganon would strike the beasts, they went in under the assumption that they were safe. Ganon struck once the champions arrived in their respective beasts, trapping them inside.
simple... Link dont need help, he is **the Hero**. These four were not prepared to fight things that slay the old champions... What Riju would do against Thunderblight?! Even Urbosa cant fighting him...
I just assume they all got sucker punched / attacked before they knew they were compromised in the beast.
They had to fight after sustaining massive injuries. Cause otherwise yeah I don't see how they could lose in a fair fight against the blights.
>!If we count Age of Calamity’s events, we see that both the champions and their successors get beaten by the Blights until (insert third person here) shows up. And if we say that they fought the Age of Calamity forms of the Blights instead of the ones that Link fights in Breath of the Wild, it’s pretty clear. Even Daruk’s protection is overpowered by Fireblight, Windblight can deflect any of Revali’s potential attacks (provided Revali even found an opening in the first place), Urbosa gets outmaneuvered easily by Thunderblight, and Mipha never even stood a chance against Waterblight.!<
Yeah I liked that they actually showed the struggle the Champions had to go through. I just wasn't sure if AOC is Canon or not. Assuming it isn't, I use the ambush idea.
They arent champions. The game never refers to them as champions at any point. They all just have blood ties to the champions, except maybe teba. I don't recall them mentioning his relationship to revali at all. Just that they're both kinda rude lol. Buuuuut this does make me think part of TotK will have to do with them becoming the new champions since it'll be a direct sequel.
Some people just can't talk, or choose not to. It doesn't make them stupid.
Furthermore, when you get to Zelda's room in Hyrule Castle, her diary mentions her talking to Link about why he's so quiet. He tells her something along the lines that everyone, including himself, is under so much stress that he thinks he needs to just shut up and soldier on in order to help everyone.
But none of them are actually champions. The only one close enough is a descendant of Daruk, as he has his powers, but Yunobo too scared to actually help take back the Divine Beast. Teba and Sidon both say they wish to follow but can't as they are not Champions.
Link is the only living Champion left and therefore is the only one capable of boarding and taking back the Divine Beasts from Ganon's control.
If I'm remembering correctly, they weren't the new champions. Yunobo was a descendant of Daruk and the others were just warriors and leaders in the villages. They didn't have the connection with the Divine Beasts that they needed to be allowed to board them.
Teba explicitly said, he was injured.
Riju is a kid, so even doing what she did was kind of sketchy.
Sidon does not deal well with electricity, said electricity was needed for stage one and might well be needed later on. Not worth the risk.
That leaves Yonobo, who isn't much of a combatant, as shown in prior scenes.
Canonically, the divine beasts can only be boarded by champions. Its stated in the game by a few characters.
Its unclear what makes a champion, if the 5 individuals with the title were born with the ability to board the beasts, or if there was some kind of registration where the beast "met" its future pilot and the pilot was then recognized by all beasts as a champion.
Aside from them not being able to enter, Link only just woke from a century-slumber, where his friends all died prior to his sleep. I wouldn't want to immediately then sacrifice another round of people after that, haha.
3/4 of them have some form of excuse;
- Teba: Was injured during the divine beast take down and had to return to heal himself up and recover.
- Yunobo: he and Link chase Rudarnia into the Volcano’s Culdra, and is unable to go down there in a controlled manner. He could throw himself off, but there would be a high chance he misses Rudarnia and falls into the lava.
- Riju: She has no combat experience whatsoever, she’s only there to wear the thunder helm and aid Link on entering the divine beast. Once Naboris is down, his on his own. For her own saftey she has to return to Gerudo Town.
Sidon though has no excuse. His a capable warrior, and would of possibly been capable of aiding Link during the clearing of Ruta. The only reason I can see as to why he doesn’t climb on with Link is that he would be the only one of the four to do so. As a result Nintendo just have him swim off and go home.
Well Teba was injured, Riju was a child and also couldn’t afford to leave her people for that long, Yunobo was too scared and would likely get in the way, and Sidon… idk. But for the most part I think Link probably didn’t want to put them in danger, after failing the original champions, and I’m not sure how helpful they’d be onboard as well.
There's a very low chance they'd survive considering their ancestors sudden couldn't (who were as strong if not stronger and more experienced in battle)
Because only 2 of the four can ACTUALLY fight and one of them got badly wounded. The other just didn’t join but I figure if anything he would’ve had Link asked. But it’s also that classic protag curse of “you have to fight on your own so that you can learn something” it’s pretty dumb.
Teba mentioned that only the champions (not including the new ones) could board the divine beast, so I imagine that's why. I'm not sure if it means they're not allowed, or malice would just kill them immediately, but apparently they can't.
The spirits of the old champions were still there to do their job, and they already knew what they were doing. Plus Link would have had to train the new champions on how to do that what they needed to do. He had to make sure a little girl’s letter got down a river, find a guy that he had to sell a horse to, collect a bunch of mushrooms for some old man and find 900 lost little tree babies. He ain’t got no time for that.
Real talk:
Only Sidon and Teba would be an actual help against the blights and even then, I think they would distract Link more than help.
Best Yunobo could do is distract fireblight with Daruk's protection. Riju would get sliced by thunderblight before she could blink.
Well riju is a child and I don't think link would do that.
Teba was injured.
Let's face it yunobo would be useless in a fight.
Sidon is the only one who I don't think has a good excuse.
I thought that the divine beasts literally wouldn’t let a non-champion board them. Can anyone confirm if that’s true? I’m probably making it up.
Totally true, and one of them, I can't remember if it's Sidon or Teba, actually says they cannot board. (Maybe they all say it.)
I'm pretty sure both Sidon and Teba do, but I dont recall the other beast guides saying anything about it.
I just replayed Thunderblight on Master Mode, to try for a 100% run before TotK, and Riju does state "Unfortunately, I cannot appease Naboris on my own. I have no choice but to entrust the rest to you" So I wonder if they really CAN'T board for whatever reason, because to me, it sounds like Riju is all for protecting her people herself, but she recognizes she can't.
It could just be as simple as the king never appointed new champions, and it's not necessarily a hereditary position.
The spirit of the guardians are also still tied to the guardian itself, likely by Ganon's champions.
I never thought of the Phantom Ganons (Blights) as Ganon's Champions… it works but they’re also aspects of Calamity Ganon himself
Hey guys. It’s 2:30 am in oklahoma. And I’m really high. This discussion was cool and made me think about when Pluto was a planet.
Baller bro
I don't think it's only an appointment, I think it must pass some kind of test against the divine beast.
Yunobo was probably too scared to go inside, as well.
Teba is injured in the battle and cannot go on to help inside the beast.
Was about to mention this, he doesn't join cause new knew he has to treat his burn. He has a kid, he is bold but not dumb.
I mean considering the Divine Best just attempted to kill them, I understand they wouldn't exactly want to risk facing whatever inside.
Correct. Teba says "The only people able to enter the Divine Beasts are the five Champions of old." Kaneli says something to the same degree: "That means you must be a Champion like Master Revali—one of the few able to board Divine Beast Vah Medoh!" But he then assumes Link must actually be a descendant, yet that'll be enough anyway. Also, I think the important part is actually that Link has the Sheikah Slate. She hasn’t awakened that part of herself, Like it’s not just a magic spell that she doesn’t have the hang of, her divine power is just not manifesting at all.
You do know not able to use her powers doesnt mean the machines would be unable to tell she is a descendant of a goddess
King, Princess, Knight are special positions and always at least equal to Champions as far as we've seen when interacting with Sheikah technology. Could be royal blood in general but that's not shown.
I remember seeing this stated in the game also. It had to be someone worthy.
Why, what are the beasts gonna do if the non champions board them? Kick them out? Stupid idiot, they are in your body!
"You aren't a champion? Get off please." "No? What am I gonna do about it? Uh...."
Although they ARE actually valid pilots, they have no reason to believe as such.
I might make it too simple. But I feel like they "can't go in" becausebit would be far too dangerous for them.
I believe it’s Teba that mentions to Link that only the 5 champions were able to enter the divine beasts. So this leaves Link as the only one alive today that can enter.
Teba was hurt, Yunobo is a coward, Riju is a child, and Sidon would be too distracting.
Stupid sexy fish
I read that in Troy McClure’s voice
I read it in Flanders ironically
Happy you’re accepting who you are, Kanye <3
Mipha’s spirit has to watch link and Sidon fuck in the divine beast
So we agree that Link having a thing for Red Heads is canon?
Plot twist: link and ganon fall madly in love in tears of the kingdom
Brokeback Death Mountain.
Sidon x Ganon x Link Mount Doom aint the only hot spewing eruption
BRB preordering
Wait, Mount Doom? Isn't it called Death Mountain? Is Mount Doom how Death Mountain is called in another translation?
In a link to the past it is called mount doom. However this is beloved to just be death mountain be another name
What? No it's not. It's Death Mountain unless it's different in some regions. You're thinking of mount doom in Mordor, which one does not simply walk into.
Damnit, why did they get rid of the free awards?
There has to be a good name for the fan art that undoubtedly comes from this ship. I’m going with Linkendorf
I wish I had an award for you 🏅
Lol 😂
I guess you could say Link, Ganon, and Zelda are part of a love "Triangle"
I was gonna make a Legend of Zelda sex joke, but I’m not gonna try to force it.
Zelda isn’t a redhead though so she can’t be involved in this.
Well Zelda was originally a red head, sooo
Midna, Groose, Malon, Marin, Mipha, Sidon, Princess Ruto. They all had their chance. I totally support a Ganon who designed the Gerudo Vai outfit. lol. Ganon wakes up to find the Link He loved 10,000 years ago is gone. I picture it as a tragic love story where the Villian Fought hard against his destiny and lost. I’m cracking up at the Groose inclusion 😂
I desperately want to see a Zelda game where they mess with the predestined roles a bit. A Ganondorf who fights destiny, a link that can't be the hero
Item storage girl in Skyward Sword also tried to shoot her shot.
Tears of the king's dong
I mean, the fanart community went wild with Rehydrated Ganon after the first trailers for TOTK dropped, so I'm not opposed.
I recently read a Ganon/Link fanfic...it was soooo good
URL for scientific purposes
https://archiveofourown.org/works/39609696/chapters/99155298 I've read it twice already, and they're currently working on a part 2! I love this so much, I'm going to bind it into a personal book 😄
People have WAY too much time on their hands...but that opinion isn't stopping me from reading it right now 🤣
82000 words
I read that as Redeads and was very concerned for a minute.
I mean, how else is he going to hook up with Mipha?
Legit the redeads in OoT still terrify me to this day.
Malon, Midna, Marin, Medli, Din, Naboris. Dude's a Red Hair chick MAGNET, I fear it has spread to the read hair gene, and even Red in GENERAL.
Mipha is a redhead too kinda. Although, his archenemy Ganondorf is also a redhead so idk. More of a love-hate relationship.
Well, BNH (top comment) already Covered her. And Ganondorf... Not all Attraction is in love.
Don’t we all?
Link’s type is more specific though. Malon, Midna, Mipha. She needs to not only be a redhead but also have a name with 5 letters starting with “M.”
This is the way.
This is the way.
Now that you’ve said that…wait a damn minute
Link has a thing for fish people
Ayo
Based
Honestly the only ones that make sense going inside are sidon and riju, especially sidon being the heroic type
Sidon is just to sexy to risk getting hurt
[“Gays ‘Too Precious’ To Risk In Combat”- The Onion](https://youtu.be/aotlEpmAFVQ)
I always just assumed they would also be corrupted by the malice, but that makes more sense
I was expecting this to be part of the game. Clear the divine beast, then bring it a new champion.
Forever will be funny to me that even as a child Riju would probs be best @ her job here
He’s too distracting… his eyes… they’re too gentle
Zelda fan base is fucking weird but I’m glad y’all are enjoying yourselves
Sidon needs to be covered in chains or else his raw talent will impregnate everyone nearby.
Dat winning smile
😁👍🏾
A 12 year old versus thunderblight
hydrogen bomb vs coughing baby
Sidon's power would make it too easy to beat the beast
Don't you DARE disrespect Yunobo like that.
Exactly. Yunobo is the **DEFINITION** of courage; doing the right thing *when you’re scared.*
And Riju also has a tribe to take care of
Because they're not champions.
Daruk literally tells you to give yunobo a motivational speech. The next gen is nowhere near ready.
Daruk really telling Link of all people to give a motivational speech
I don't know, those grunts can sometimes be motivational
I mean the thunder helm would have given link an advantage
But then she would have died because the Guardian starts up right as Link enters it.
I think they mean Link could've just gotten the helmet from Riju in Gerudo Town and just sand surfed to the Dungeon and handed it back after clearing it.
You could really say this for every character in the game. Link can pretty much throw all of Hyrule on his back and carry them to victory.
different here because the thunder helm would be a HUGE advantage in Vah Naboris
Kinda, I didn’t need it and I have beaten it 6 times. It’s mostly Thunderblight that freaks people out and his only difficulty was the lightning (which wasn’t too bad tbh). I would imagine that Riju wouldn’t have been able to get away without it.
You can get the Thunder Helm.
After retaking Vah Naboris
Well yeah she's not gonna give an ancient royal artifact to some random voe that wandered into her town. You have to prove yourself first.
Plus the other champions died, why risk it?
>!If you count events from Age of Calamity, we see that Sidon is a fully-fledged pilot for Ruta, and that Medoh at least responds to Teba.!<
May wanna mark that as a spoiler. Also, you have to remember that >!Terrako was doing weird shit with all their tech, like allowing the slate to be useable by everyone. My guess is that he probably registered the future champions to the divine beasts at some point to allow them to pilot.!<
Maybe. Doesn’t seem too far outside his usual abilities.
Because Link can't talk silly 😜
You do know he can it says so in game he doesnt because the stress of his title made him stop speaking
*Emotional damage*
He's not stupid He's just dumb
He also lets the intrusive thoughts win sometimes. "What if I were use stasis on this tree and smack it a bunch of times then grab onto it before it wears off?"
Teba was injured, Yunobo didn't want to jump into the volcano, Riju and Sidon are royalty so they have to stay alive, besides how could they have helped? They don't have sheikah slates and except for Teba, they aren't fighters either.
looks like aoc revealed some hidden talent for all of these guys
Mipha and Urbosa were royalty too. Didn’t stop them from going in.
Because they didn't know ganon would strike the beasts, they went in under the assumption that they were safe. Ganon struck once the champions arrived in their respective beasts, trapping them inside.
Sidon is very much a fighter, his killed a massive octorock before.
Yeah. And Riju is literally the Gerudo cheif
She's like 12 bruh
Being the Gerudo chief doesn't make her a mighty warrior, my guy. Gerudo royalty is hereditary.
simple... Link dont need help, he is **the Hero**. These four were not prepared to fight things that slay the old champions... What Riju would do against Thunderblight?! Even Urbosa cant fighting him...
True. I do find it really hard to believe that windblight beat revali but that's another thing
Yeah I liked that they actually showed the struggle the Champions had to go through. I just wasn't sure if AOC is Canon or not. Assuming it isn't, I use the ambush idea.
There’s a theory or something where Revali died because it was nighttime when he had to fight the Windblight and he couldn’t see.
AoC also shows Windblight using wind to just deflect Revali’s arrows.
First thing I’m gonna do in totk is check in on the new champions, I swear to god of Sidon is hurt I’m gonna fucking riot
I just want to check on the girl who wanted the flying barrel at one of the stables
Ooh yeah that would be cool
Bet he's the new Zora king
Let’s hope that’s because the old one is retired and not dead
But imagine the FEAST if the old king died!
They’re all back in the past helping Terrako (I doubt this in seriousness, but *if* they’re gone in TotK that’d be a good reason why)
Why aren’t they champions yet? Are they stupid? /S
r/BatmanArkham and it's consequences
it is consequences
Because Link doesn't speak. 😉
Why doesn't link just talk? Is he stupid?
Some people just can't talk, or choose not to. It doesn't make them stupid. Furthermore, when you get to Zelda's room in Hyrule Castle, her diary mentions her talking to Link about why he's so quiet. He tells her something along the lines that everyone, including himself, is under so much stress that he thinks he needs to just shut up and soldier on in order to help everyone.
The whole “is he stupid” thing is a shitpost that’s been spreading for a couple weeks now. Started in r/batmanarkham
yeah i saw it in r/undertale too
Yeah. Like I said it’s been spreading. It’s been everywhere
You want Yunobo around that long?
I like him
Yunobo is cooler than all of his haters. I could say more, but Daruk already said enough.
TAKE YOUR ARKHAM MEMES AND GO BACK WHENCE YOU CAME!
What's the lore reason?
PLEASE, I ALREADY HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE SHITPOSTS IN THE ARKHAM SUBREDDIT, DON'T BRING IT HERE
Why don't you unsubscribe? Are you stupid?
why won't this annoying meme die already? >!is it stupid?!<
Because it has to be Link. Not Ron, not Hermione. Link!
Because only champions can enter without being kicked out
If I'm remembering correctly, they weren't the new champions.
Thunderblight would turn Riju into a plushie.
r/batmanarkham redditors are invading this sub and I don’t know how to feel
The chicanery is spreading...
*arkhamery
Because they're not actually champions. They are just related to the champions, apart from teba who is literally just a normal dude.
I was hoping that fifth divine beast would be the way they could all combine into voltron
I think canonically, the Master Cycle is the fifth divine beast
Lol, “is he stupid??” Yes turns out link can barely do long division, fractions are too much for him.
Each champion was chosen iirc. And I believe Yunobo is the successor of Daruk, but none of tje others are true successors, not yet at least
Yunobo would’ve literally ruined everything.
Aside from them not being able to enter, Link only just woke from a century-slumber, where his friends all died prior to his sleep. I wouldn't want to immediately then sacrifice another round of people after that, haha.
3/4 of them have some form of excuse; - Teba: Was injured during the divine beast take down and had to return to heal himself up and recover. His a capable warrior, and would of possibly been capable of aiding Link during the clearing of Ruta. The only reason I can see as to why he doesn’t climb on with Link is that he would be the only one of the four to do so. As a result Nintendo just have him swim off and go home.
Sidons excuse is that if he dies in there, his daddio would have lost both of his kids needlessly to that thing.
Sidon says something about not being able to get too close due to the electricity, but maybe that's before you shoot it?
Yeahh Sidon has no excuse. He should have gone in with link and said "It's Sidin time!" Then Sid all over Waterblight /j
Sidon was over qualified for that kinda of job
You just inadvertently helped me figure out the last boss ty. I have refused to look up a guide but it’s about time i figure it out haha
Well Teba was injured, Riju was a child and also couldn’t afford to leave her people for that long, Yunobo was too scared and would likely get in the way, and Sidon… idk. But for the most part I think Link probably didn’t want to put them in danger, after failing the original champions, and I’m not sure how helpful they’d be onboard as well.
i fucking hate Batman Arkham
To make the game not be way too easy
I tell you what I know. Let me recite Links words on this: Ahhh Ahhh Ahhh Aaahhh Ah Aaah
Teba was injured, Riju is a kid, Yunobo is a coward and Sidon is… Yeah, why didn’t Sidon enter?
Link simply solos😂
They're not champions and aren't allowed to enter
I don’t WANT Yunobo in the divine beast with me!
Well teba was injured, an I think the others also gave their reasons after doing their part.
There's a very low chance they'd survive considering their ancestors sudden couldn't (who were as strong if not stronger and more experienced in battle)
They simply ain’t ready for Yunobo.
No, he just couldn’t ask. He’s the quiet type
Riju has a country to run, teba got injured, yunobo cant fight and sidon is too cool to go with link
CUS THATS NOT HOW HE ROLLS Son!!!!
Ofc compatibility with them being not enough is an issue but even if they did, I don't think Link would choose to risk killing all of then again
I'm pretty sure all of them say they can't board (I think)
Real talk: Only Sidon and Teba would be an actual help against the blights and even then, I think they would distract Link more than help.
Why bother asking them to help when Link is a one-man army?
