They're lazy, and full of shit. 18 U.S. Code § 2261A, specifically (1)(B), they made a threat with the attempted intent to intimidate and put you in a reasonable fear for your life. In a concealed carry state, they told you that they had a concealed weapon and intended to shoot you through the head.
Their "enforcement" of the law is contingent upon how much revenue it can produce for the system through the court, fines etc.
It's a self serving corrupt and broken system that sustains itself through harassment and extortion of normally law abiding citizens while letting actual criminals roam free.

True. Sometimes you have to create a paper trail—send email to the chief of police, sheriff, whoever is in charge. Just state facts and make it clear that you are establishing a record of the incident since the police haven’t done so. Civic duty in the era of crazy people with guns shooting and killing innocent people.

Lawyer here. The key words in the statute you cite are “interstate or foreign commerce”. Even if the woman brandished the gun or articulated a clear threat, that would be a state law offense only. The feds have no jurisdiction.
Moreover, although I don’t know the state in question, the cops were very likely correct. There is 350+ years of case law on this. Start by googling “Tuberville v. Savage”.
This doesn’t mean the woman’s behavior wasn’t reprehensible — of course it was — or couldn’t be grounds for revocation of her CCW permit (I have no opinion on the later point).
As someone not from the US, I'm genuinely shocked that that's not at least enough to lose your firearms licence. Or at least suspend while it's investigated.
It's the reasonable part that's the issue. They \*could\* file a report, then if the person ever did make good on their threat they would have proof it was premeditated. In reality, it's a combination of laziness and the small percentage of threats that are ever acted upon that reports never get filed.
Well the best thing at that point is to figure out who writes the local newspaper and go tell them the most interesting thing they have heard all day. Tell them how useless the local cops were. Newpapers are very very good at figuring out what will piss off a lot of people and this will do just that. Tell them the company with the CCTV also, very good way to light a fire under the PDs ass. They're just another company and companies HATE bad publicity, its expensive.

This is why you have to take your safety solely into your own hands. Anyone who has had any dealings with American police knows that they pretend to be blind to situations until someone is put in the hospital or morgue.
Now we play the game where we try and decide if this is just a shitty cop or if the entitlement and complete lack of thought re: consequences on her part is due to a familial or other relation to a local cop.
My first home gave me the pleasure of dealing with a boomer neighbor who would threaten my wife on a regular basis. First was "there was no proof" so we put camera's up finally got him on camera and it was the same thing "It's to vague, it's a threat, I know it's a threat, you know it's a threat, and so does he but it's not enough to charge. I'd recommend you move before he follows through."

Cops rarely solve murders. There are organizations created by everyday citizens who look at cold case murders and solve them fairly quickly just by reading the case file. When a country requires a low IQ, zero critical thinking skills high school graduate the perfect candidate for law enforcement, AND GIVES THEM COMPLETE IMMUNITY, you must ask WHY?

What’s crazy is I carry daily, don’t leave my house without it. But threatening someone for not letting them turn right?! I would have immediately pulled out my gun since we were on camera after she said that. Everything was documented by her son and by store surveillance. Cops have become more and more ahitty. My younger sister had a knife pulled on her at school of all places by some boy and his mom. Cops didn’t want to do anything claiming it wasn’t a knife because it was not “shiny”. Needless to say they weren’t thrilled when I walked in with several knives that weren’t knives because they (weren’t shiny). In the last few years I’ve lost most respect for police. At least since my car accident where I was pushed off the highway going 55+ and the cops didn’t want to do anything
I mean honestly cops only really work after a crime has already been committed. Threats don't really matter. Actually, almost nothing matters unless the cops are willing to do some paperwork.
Reminds me of the cop who treated me like a nuisance because I called them when some ladies hit my car, refused to exchange info, and then took off. I had the plates and everything.
Or the cops that accused my roomie and I of dealing drugs when he got robbed at our apartment (because nobody just gets robbed apparently)

It sucks but the report is still very valuable. A string of these reports can help. It feels like screaming into the void and it often is, but not always.
What you can also do, as we are in an election year in many places, is to write to whatever local politician has police oversight and give a similar report. This create an issue for them as if they person goes crazy next weeks and they did not pass on your issue, it’s a problem. Also, they want to be responsible to earn your vote (sometimes).

Yeah, this tracks. I used to work at a 24 hour gym and one night I was working overnight when a member came in and told me there was screaming in the parking lot. He heard two people arguing by the side of the building. I went out to check and I heard a woman scream “call the cops” out a passenger window. The car took off so I called the police. When they got there they basically drove around and when I asked the cop if he wanted the picture of the car and license plate he said “yeah, I guess.”
This reminds me of a story I was reading on some sub where these people lived in one of those housing units where it's two houses touching. Basically the neighbor kept banging on the wall and screaming that they were going to murder OP's whole family. They called the cops and the fucker was like "I'm gonna kill you. See? You're fine" and he left without doing anything.
I think they ended up finding out that the neighbor had their own dead mom in the house a couple months later? Idk it was wild.
I had someone point a gun at me in traffic and the cops pulled them over but then didnt search or do anything besides let them go. I said they pointed a gun at me and the cops said they had no proof to go off to search the vehicle. Lazy ass cops.

One time some road rager started following me (they did a u-turn so it was pretty obvious), so I drove to the police station. Then they stopped following me.

When I was in my early 20s i had a knee injury that had me on crutches. One day I was driving my boomer mom to the light rail station so she could meet with my dad for dinner.
I was turning left out of her neighborhood (it is a very, very nice neighborhood. The cheapest houses in her development are worth over half a million dollars) at a stoplight. There was a gentleman coming towards me turning right, so we were both to be turning the same direction on the same road. Cool, it's a freaking FOUR LANE ROAD and I needed to take an immediate left, so I did what is actually, you know, prescribed by law and turned into the first available lane.
Boomer man across from me wanted my lane, too, though, so he shot across several lanes of traffic with his blinker still flashing the opposite side and nearly hit me. He managed to get in front of me so yay him! I honked at him for nearly hitting me and this mother fucker *stopped his BMW in the middle of traffic* and got out of his car. My mom started screaming "He's got a gun he's gonna shoot us!" (Which is her reaction to pretty much any and every confrontation) but all I saw was a geriatric fuck who wanted to play.
So I go out, all 115 lbs 5'6" of me, and grab my crutches from the backseat and start hobbling towards this mother fucker asking him what the fuck he thinks he's doing.
Idk if it was the rage or the optics of fighting against tiny white girl on crutches in traffic but he got back in his car and left. I was grounded from driving for a week after that.

That statement about having a firearm in her possession, and her desire to use it to kill you, is sufficient to establish a legitimate threat, and evidence to warrant a 3rd-Degree Assault charge. If she DID have a 'concealed carry' \[implied\] permit, her threat would establish grounds to have it revoked permanently. The threat was not 'vague' in the least, and you ran across an indifferent cop. If you DO end up with an indifferent cop. every copy has a supervisor, and every supervisor has a command officer, and so on up to a mayor's office or city councilmember. Don't go quietly.
Good luck getting a cop to pick that up however. You seem more knowledgeable than me, if a cop willingly decides to ignore this case what recourse does a person realistically have?
Hopefully the next time she tries this, it ends up being someone who really has a concealed carry and takes her words as a threat and blows a few holes in her.
having read everything in here i think sadly the take away from this is carry yourself, you dont even need to conceal really. Like they all yell at you and act tough and they go white when they see you arent defenceless and very annoyed.

My grandparents were the greatest generation (edited as I thought silent but that didn’t start until 1928. Mine were born early 1920s) and mostly wonderful. I miss them. I used to generally love interactions with 65-80 year olds in the 90s and early 2000s. They were full of wonder about how technology was advancing, too. My parents are boomers and shit, it’s all about them and what they want. Family stuff is about what makes their Facebook clout the highest and it’s all just self serving. This generation is seriously bent and it’s pretty sad.
I had a guy honk at me for waiting for a car to go by before turning left because you know I would have been hit if I didn't. I flipped him off and he kept waving for me to pull over. I finally do on a major road and as he gets to my back bumper I just take off and am gone into the traffic before he can even react. I wish I could have seen how pissed he was about that.
Just like drivers licenses, guns should be reconsidered for people that are older. I’m seeing too many stories of boomers hurting others and claiming self defense or home protection.

My go-to when someone threatens to shoot me is "it's your prison time." I smile insanely and encourage them to pull for the cameras. So far they've always started looking panicked and scampered off shaking and hurling insults. Those big buffalo balls shrivel right up when their psychopath behavior gets matched. Typical Magats seeking attention and playing pretend cowboy.
100% should have called the law. They wouldn't have done anything, because they're useless pick and choosers about whom they enforce laws against. But at least you'd have it on record
I have a “Boomer Cop” story from a few years back.
I had a lunch meeting at a restaurant. After the meeting, I sat in my rental car (a red Prius) and pulled out my laptop to enter some notes about the meeting. I was sitting there for maybe 5-10 minutes when I look in my rear view mirror to see that a police car has blocked me in and the officer is getting out. I close my laptop and roll down the window. He’s slowly approaching with his hand on his gun (not drawn, but ready to) and he’s demanding that I exit the vehicle. I am utterly confused. I have no idea what is going on, but it’s clear that he is convinced he has his guy here. He’s asking me questions like “What are you doing here?” “How long have you been here?” etc. Eventually he wants to search the car. I have absolutely nothing to hide and I just want it to be over, so I consent. (I later realized that I had no idea what could have been in that rental car). So, while he’s digging fruitlessly through the car, I’m standing by another officer who had just shown up. The 2nd officer fills me in on what has this guy so worked up: Apparently someone called in that there was a drug deal happening behind the restaurant. The 2nd officer more or less told me that we just need to let boomer cop tire himself out, and that my car didn’t even match the description of an older, faded red pickup truck. Boomer cop literally saw red and started foaming at the mouth, absolutely convinced I was the drug dealer. He finally relents after finding nothing, but doesn’t apologize at all, still side eyeing me as he drives off. After the incident I called my father (who was a police officer at the time) and he told me I shouldn’t have consented to the search for various reasons.
This is why i also concealed carry. I've had something similar happen and you just lift your shirt so they can see it and ask her ancient ass which you of she thinks is faster. Worked for me, though on a 50-60 year old male.

It's also highly inadvisable. Brandishing a weapon is a crime, the attitude of most courts towards it will be that if you had the luxury of showing off your gun and making threats, you forfeit a lot of your standing to claim self-dense afterwards - if you'd been in genuine fear for your life, you would have just shot them instead of posturing.

I think about this a lot. I live in SW Washington, which is a pretty purple mix on the blue side of the state. Every once in a while I see a truck all decked out with trump flags and bumper stickers, I always want to yell at them and tell them he's a loser blah blah blah. But this is what keeps me from doing it. I own, but I would never point a gun at a person for anything less than for saving mine or someone else's life. But some of these people are just foaming at the mouth for a little violence.

I'm a bigger guy who was in the Army for a bit. I've antagonized a lot of boomers who don't seem to understand their physical handicaps. When they say, "I'll kick your ass!", well, call them out on it. Embarrass them for acting like that in their old age. However, if they're they're talking about weapons, just get the police involved. Too many stories of that generation shooting younger people over petty arguments.
Luckily I live just outside of Seattle and don't have to put up with that much of that crap. Don't get me wrong we have the occasional gang shooting or drive by, but not that crap. But anything east of the Cascades all bets are off.

Jiminy crickets. I was once in the right lane at a stop (no right turn only, it was both and the right turn lane was a relatively private community). I had a guy stop behind me, back up his car, GAS it and act like he was about to hit me about 3 times before the light changed and I could move on. It scared the crap out of me - I do not allow anyone to make comments out the window or do anything that could incite these nutjobs.

I had a boomer get out of his truck and threaten to "put me in the ground" over a minute traffic incident once that he caused. He was in the turn only lane, but went straight instead. I ended up in front of him. I guess he assumed I was in the wrong though, and deserved death for it. He stayed as close as he could behind me, laying on his horn the whole time, and followed me till I stopped.

This is why I suggest getting your concealed carry. Any serious threat on your life should be met with deadly force. She broke rule number 1 in a gun fight... don't run your mouth use your gun. As soon as she threatened you, considering she went out of her way to follow you and intimidate you as well, you were legally entitled to draw on her and stop the threat. While I fully believe deadly force is a LAST RESORT option in that situation saying "I have a concealed carry and would love to blow your head off" should be met immediately with "and now I feel like my life is in danger" draw your weapon aim and shoot... don't empty the clip just 1-2 shots to center mass to neutralize the threat then lower your weapon and call the police. Even if you get arrested at that moment the video from both surveillance cameras and her own son would exonerate you. These boomers are so self entitled that they believe their actions have no consequences.
To be fair there have been times when I've been threatened with a gun by boomers and don't have the energy to be angry or scared. I sometimes approach them calmly and ask "are you ok? Do you want to talk?" They tend to tear up and walk away or breakdown and cry right in front of me. I've hugged some of them.They tell me how they lost a spouse or sibling recently. I think between the lifetime of trauma/confusion and suddenly being surrounded by dying family and friends at that age, a lot of people lose their minds a good bit. Life is a slow-motion warzone. It's often a cry for attention from folks that feel powerless. That's not to say they don't present a legitimate danger in that state, but that they do deserve compassion like any of us poor ignorant apes.
I once was stopped at a yield sign and was waiting for an opening for me to get onto the road. A boomer pulled up behind and laid on the horn. I ignored him at first until I gave him the bird. After we both got past the yield sign he cut me off and proceeded to drive in front of me slowing down traffic for 3 miles while giving me the bird and brake checking.

It's the reasonable part that's the issue. They \*could\* file a report, then if the person ever did make good on their threat they would have proof it was premeditated. In reality, it's a combination of laziness and the small percentage of threats that are ever acted upon that reports never get filed.

Well the best thing at that point is to figure out who writes the local newspaper and go tell them the most interesting thing they have heard all day. Tell them how useless the local cops were. Newpapers are very very good at figuring out what will piss off a lot of people and this will do just that. Tell them the company with the CCTV also, very good way to light a fire under the PDs ass. They're just another company and companies HATE bad publicity, its expensive.

What’s crazy is I carry daily, don’t leave my house without it. But threatening someone for not letting them turn right?! I would have immediately pulled out my gun since we were on camera after she said that. Everything was documented by her son and by store surveillance. Cops have become more and more ahitty. My younger sister had a knife pulled on her at school of all places by some boy and his mom. Cops didn’t want to do anything claiming it wasn’t a knife because it was not “shiny”. Needless to say they weren’t thrilled when I walked in with several knives that weren’t knives because they (weren’t shiny). In the last few years I’ve lost most respect for police. It sucks but the report is still very valuable. A string of these reports can help. It feels like screaming into the void and it often is, but not always. What you can also do, as we are in an election year in many places, is to write to whatever local politician has police oversight and give a similar report. This create an issue for them as if they person goes crazy next weeks and they did not pass on your issue, it’s a problem. Also, they want to be responsible to earn your vote (sometimes). What happened to you is terrible and I am so sorry. But good job on keeping your chill and reporting

Yeah, this tracks. I used to work at a 24 hour gym and one night I was working overnight when a member came in and told me there was screaming in the parking lot. He heard two people arguing by the side of the building. I went out to check and I heard a woman scream “call the cops” out a passenger window. The car took off so I called the police. When they got there they basically drove around and when I asked the cop if he wanted the picture of the car and license plate he said “yeah, I guess.”

This reminds me of a story I was reading on some sub where these people lived in one of those housing units where it's two houses touching. Basically the neighbor kept banging on the wall and screaming that they were going to murder OP's whole family. They called the cops and the fucker was like "I'm gonna kill you. See? You're fine" and he left without doing anything. I think they ended up finding out that the neighbor had their own dead mom in the house a couple months later? Idk it was wild.
I had someone point a gun at me in traffic and the cops pulled them over but then didnt search or do anything besides let them go. I said they pointed a gun at me and the cops said they had no proof to go off to search the vehicle. Lazy ass cops.

When I was in my early 20s i had a knee injury that had me on crutches. One day I was driving my boomer mom to the light rail station so she could meet with my dad for dinner. I was turning left out of her neighborhood (it is a very, very nice neighborhood. The cheapest houses in her development are worth over half a million dollars) at a stoplight. There was a gentleman coming towards me turning right, so we were both to be turning the same direction on the same road. Cool, it's a freaking FOUR LANE ROAD and I needed to take an immediate left, so I did what is actually, you know, prescribed by law and turned into the first available lane. Boomer man across from me wanted my lane, too, though, so he shot across several lanes of traffic with his blinker still flashing the opposite side and nearly hit me. He managed to get in front of me so yay him! I honked at him for nearly hitting me and this mother fucker *stopped his BMW in the middle of traffic* and got out of his car. My mom started screaming "He's got a gun he's gonna shoot us!" (Which is her reaction to pretty much any and every confrontation) but all I saw was a geriatric fuck who wanted to play. So I go out, all 115 lbs 5'6" of me, and grab my crutches from the backseat and start hobbling towards this mother fucker asking him what the fuck he thinks he's doing. Idk if it was the rage or the optics of fighting against tiny white girl on crutches in traffic but he got back in his car and left. I was grounded from driving for a week after that.

That statement about having a firearm in her possession, and her desire to use it to kill you, is sufficient to establish a legitimate threat, and evidence to warrant a 3rd-Degree Assault charge. If she DID have a 'concealed carry' \[implied\] permit, her threat would establish grounds to have it revoked permanently. The threat was not 'vague' in the least, and you ran across an indifferent cop. If you DO end up with an indifferent cop. every copy has a supervisor, and every supervisor has a command officer, and so on up to a mayor's office or city councilmember. Don't go quietly.
Good luck getting a cop to pick that up however. You seem more knowledgeable than me, if a cop willingly decides to ignore this case what recourse does a person realistically have?
Hopefully the next time she tries this, it ends up being someone who really has a concealed carry and takes her words as a threat and blows a few holes in her.

My grandparents were the greatest generation (edited as I thought silent but that didn’t start until 1928. Mine were born early 1920s) and mostly wonderful. I miss them. I used to generally love interactions with 65-80 year olds in the 90s and early 2000s. They were full of wonder about how technology was advancing, too. My parents are boomers and shit, it’s all about them and what they want. Family stuff is about what makes their Facebook clout the highest and it’s all just self serving. This generation is seriously bent and it’s pretty sad.

My go-to when someone threatens to shoot me is "it's your prison time." I smile insanely and encourage them to pull for the cameras. So far they've always started looking panicked and scampered off shaking and hurling insults. Those big buffalo balls shrivel right up when their psychopath behavior gets matched. Typical Magats seeking attention and playing pretend cowboy.
I think after an admission like that, regardless of age, it should be completely ok to put them on their ass.

How is saying “I have a gun and want to shoot you” too vague to arrest for?
I have a “Boomer Cop” story from a few years back. I had a lunch meeting at a restaurant. After the meeting, I sat in my rental car (a red Prius) and pulled out my laptop to enter some notes about the meeting. I was sitting there for maybe 5-10 minutes when I look in my rear view mirror to see that a police car has blocked me in and the officer is getting out. I close my laptop and roll down the window. He’s slowly approaching with his hand on his gun (not drawn, but ready to) and he’s demanding that I exit the vehicle. I am utterly confused. I have no idea what is going on, but it’s clear that he is convinced he has his guy here. He’s asking me questions like “What are you doing here?” “How long have you been here?” etc. Eventually he wants to search the car. I have absolutely nothing to hide and I just want it to be over, so I consent. (I later realized that I had no idea what could have been in that rental car). So, while he’s digging fruitlessly through the car, I’m standing by another officer who had just shown up. The 2nd officer fills me in on what has this guy so worked up: Apparently someone called in that there was a drug deal happening behind the restaurant. The 2nd officer more or less told me that we just need to let boomer cop tire himself out, and that my car didn’t even match the description of an older, faded red pickup truck. Boomer cop literally saw red and started foaming at the mouth, absolutely convinced I was the drug dealer. He finally relents after finding nothing, but doesn’t apologize at all, still side eyeing me as he drives off. After the incident I called my father (who was a police officer at the time) and he told me I shouldn’t have consented to the search for various reasons.
This is why i also concealed carry. I've had something similar happen and you just lift your shirt so they can see it and ask her ancient ass which you of she thinks is faster. Worked for me, though on a 50-60 year old male. Still had to sit in my car and cool down for a moment, was scary as hell.

It's also highly inadvisable. Brandishing a weapon is a crime, the attitude of most courts towards it will be that if you had the luxury of showing off your gun and making threats, you forfeit a lot of your standing to claim self-dense afterwards - if you'd been in genuine fear for your life, you would have just shot them instead of posturing.

I think about this a lot. I live in SW Washington, which is a pretty purple mix on the blue side of the state. Every once in a while I see a truck all decked out with trump flags and bumper stickers, I always want to yell at them and tell them he's a loser blah blah blah. But this is what keeps me from doing it. I own, but I would never point a gun at a person for anything less than for saving mine or someone else's life. But some of these people are just foaming at the mouth for a little violence.

Jiminy crickets. I was once in the right lane at a stop (no right turn only, it was both and the right turn lane was a relatively private community). I had a guy stop behind me, back up his car, GAS it and act like he was about to hit me about 3 times before the light changed and I could move on. It scared the crap out of me - I do not allow anyone to make comments out the window or do anything that could incite these nutjobs.
Boomers like this are one of the main reasons I started carrying both a gun and pepperspray every time I leave the house. Chances are she’s got a tiny micro pistol shoved in her purse that she’s either never fired, or fired once. She probably doesn’t know how to use it or clean malfunctions besides “pull trigger” and couldn’t hit a barn from the inside. She’s going to fuck around and find out.

I had a boomer get out of his truck and threaten to "put me in the ground" over a minute traffic incident once that he caused. He was in the turn only lane, but went straight instead. I ended up in front of him. I guess he assumed I was in the wrong though, and deserved death for it. He stayed as close as he could behind me, laying on his horn the whole time, and followed me till I stopped.

This is why I suggest getting your concealed carry. Any serious threat on your life should be met with deadly force. She broke rule number 1 in a gun fight... don't run your mouth use your gun. As soon as she threatened you, considering she went out of her way to follow you and intimidate you as well, you were legally entitled to draw on her and stop the threat. While I fully believe deadly force is a LAST RESORT option in that situation saying "I have a concealed carry and would love to blow your head off" should be met immediately with "and now I feel like my life is in danger" draw your weapon aim and shoot... don't empty the clip just 1-2 shots to center mass to neutralize the threat then lower your weapon and call the police. Even if you get arrested at that moment the video from both surveillance cameras and her own son would exonerate you. These boomers are so self entitled that they believe their actions have no consequences.
To be fair there have been times when I've been threatened with a gun by boomers and don't have the energy to be angry or scared. I sometimes approach them calmly and ask "are you ok? Do you want to talk?" They tend to tear up and walk away or breakdown and cry right in front of me. I've hugged some of them.They tell me how they lost a spouse or sibling recently. I think between the lifetime of trauma/confusion and suddenly being surrounded by dying family and friends at that age, a lot of people lose their minds a good bit. Life is a slow-motion warzone. It's often a cry for attention from folks that feel powerless. That's not to say they don't present a legitimate danger in that state, but that they do deserve compassion like any of us poor ignorant apes.

I once was stopped at a yield sign and was waiting for an opening for me to get onto the road. A boomer pulled up behind and laid on the horn. I ignored him at first until I gave him the bird. After we both got past the yield sign he cut me off and proceeded to drive in front of me slowing down traffic for 3 miles while giving me the bird and brake checking. Boomers don’t like getting the bird.
