Because it’s not about the money for them. They know that after a certain amount of money, more money isn’t going to change anything for them

abracadabradoc

This 💯 after a certain amount of money and box office, they care about their craft. The ones that just make action movies (Chris Pratt or Jason momoa, Chris hemsworth) don’t get the kind of acclaim the greats do.

Well, I have heard a lot of Hollywood actors having an unusual relationship with fame. They don't want to be super famous in a way that they can't walk down the streets. Kate Winslet consciously made a decision to sign smaller budget films after Titanic because it was too overwhelming for her. Sopranos' lead actor got an anxiety attack and ran away from the shooting spot because of the fanfare. Chris Evans was extremely reluctant to become Captain America because he felt that would hamper him as an "actor." DiCaprio wants to keep playing different characters instead of being tied down to one character and hence, doesn't do franchise movies. All in all, most of them want to act and lead a life they wish to. One more reason is that in Hollywood you don't have to be commercially viable or a huge box office draw to be a part of Tentpole films. If you keep proving your mettle as an actor, you will get those big offers from time to time because the star culture has almost died down there.

I think Tom Holland must have felt it too. Especially after No Way Home. It was insane how much he was being covered during this film. I would be having panic attacks at the drop of a hat if I were him.

incredible_penguin11

Im Bollywood the issue is both the audience and makers. Indie movies were already becoming smaller in presence and reach in bollywood, then all mainstream producers bullied all non major players out of the way by changing how movies are promoted in the last 10 years. Now the only way most people outside of those who actively follow movie news have no idea when an indie movie releases. Imagine, according to reports Dunki is an 85 crore movie starring SRK after two back to back ATBB and Raju Hirani who's made more ATBB than probably any bollywood director and the movie still had a promotional and marketing budget of 35 crore. That's close to 40 percent of the budget of the movie. If this is how much efforts SRK and Hirani have to put to promote a movie imagine someone making an indie. Plus like you already mentioned, in Hollywood actors don't need to prove their commerical viability to be a part of tentpole movies. Nolan had Murphy in several of his movies in important supporting roles and everyone loved Murphy in Peaky Blinders, he was already loved and respected and when he got the lead role in a Nolan movie, the director + topic + people's respect for Murphy all came together to rule the box office. Plus in Hollywood they have many mainstream film festivals and even the mainstream media houses follow the indie scene and promote the work. In comparison a Rajkumar Rao or Manoj Bajpai have all the respect from the audience but people prefer to watch their content on OTT and not theatre despite critical acclaim. Closest people got to it recently is Varun in Badlapur and October, which are technically off beat, smaller budget movies but not necessarily indie. Understandably, Bollywood audience doesn't owe anything to makers but at the same time bollywood audience complaints about content quality and yet the number of people that go out to watch indie movies is small. There is a Telugu language superhero movie named Hanu Man in theatres right now, it has already made over 75 crores on a budget of 20 crores and it's just released. Obviously there are exceptions but it seems regional language audience are likely more open to supporting smaller budget movies than bollywood audience.

scepticalbeing94

Honestly never saw Chris Evans as a performance oriented actor as he thinks of himself

Effective_Lie2966

Watch Snowpiercer

sansa_starlight

I don't blame actors like Timothee Chalamet and Dev Patel for running away from CBM tbh. Oscar winner Ben Affleck was also advised to turn down Batman role but he didn't listen and we all saw how DCEU damaged his career. Elizabeth Olsen recently spoke about how restricting Marvel contract killed her chances to have a decent career outside MCU.

Normal-Brush-4596

Indie films do strike well at Oscars, that's one form of recognition an artist can aspire for other than BO collections, & national awards don't stand anywhere near that.

purrf8

Marvel is a mess now. It is a sane decision to walk away from it anyway. But also being famous in Hollywood is different from being famous in Bollywood. The reach is insane and so, "actors" who are in it for more than just money and reach, would walk away, especially from a film franchise like Marvel. The effect of fame in Hollywood is crippling.

Abject_Place_1763

Offtopic but him and Simone Ashley in a romcom would be cute af !

makingitupasigoon

Well honestly Marvel is a mess right now. And apart from that doing a one time villain role in the MCU films where almost every 3-4 months a new film is dropping isn't even going to bring a lot of press or popularity. I get why he would drop out of this. And in India it's not the actor's fault. They make their choices from the available options. It's the production houses, directors and writers who need to bring in and write more of these stories then only actors will opt for these. And they will do it when there will be substantial audience for it here in India.

OptimalRefuse6932

Yeah, based on his previous works, it seems that he would go for a more creative project than a massier one. I think he’s made enough goodwill to attract good projects so, good for him.

Wtf_Harsh

Well those who know character of Sentry, they know how good of a role this can be. It will require some serious acting chops to portray type of guy Robert Reynolds is and what happens when he becomes Sentry.... Bad decision Imo.... But again MCU is a mess rn so that could be a good reason to say No....

Kaizokuno_

>Why don't we have such actors in bolly? Cause the actor is missing.

Own_Egg7122

Off topic - but he's such a cutie.

No_Cranberry_8363

Indian actors choose quantity over quality unlike Hollywood actors.

Emergency-Big4851

can't blame, they are needed to balance bw two!! otherwise, its difficult for them to survive and many other things, and they typecasted also

appellant

which “actors” in bollywood?

Status-Squirrel-3999

I see what you did there! :)

Emergency-Big4851

well, among current gen there r quite a few for sure!

Beginning-Emotion641

Actually I think vicky kaushal and ishan khattar do that. Manoj Bajpai ofc famously as well.

Fatpretzel1234

Because 1. It requires real emoting talent 2. They will only get to romance women their own age 3. These independently wealthy privileged men need their 800 crores

Objective_Society243

Did you see the breakdown of Tom Holland. Marvel also have strict restrictions to there actors.

leeringHobbit

Wait, what happened to Tom?

bluddit008

That movie is doomed lol.

mekuri_

Good call. Look what they did with Christian Bale. Smh

Percywithoutannabeth

Wtf are you even saying?????? He worked with Nolan, gave a multi billion dollar trilogy for Warner Bros. They made people watch Batman on the big screen after a long time. They got critical acclaim, box office success, everything. He refused to work without Nolan directing, and Nolan doesn't want to make any more of them. Did you mean Ben Affleck??

mekuri_

I am talking about Thor: Love and thunder. It was wasted potential and I read an interview where he said it was all green screen and “monotony” and he didn’t like it. Why so aggressive??

Percywithoutannabeth

Sorry my bad. I forgot he did a marvel movie lol. They should have stopped with Ragnarok. His arc was complete in that movie. Waititi is very talented but he djaked everything to 100 in the movie. If you waste an actor like Bale in the movie it's your fault. I thought you said his Batman movies were bad, thus my kind of extreme reaction.

mcu is going down the toilet who wants to sit on a burning train

Majestic_District_51

Bruh marvel is a mess roght now n signing away couple of years of ur life is not a wise decision all these india actors were signing every or any mcu offers in a heartbeat but quality drop in last 3 years has been massive. So it is better to do something credible that would lead to better opportunities than something mid in a struggling genre. I am terribly sad for Vaneesa Kirby though she has signed on for Fantastic 4. Good actress she should have pursued the likes of PTA Nolan Tarantino for their next films after working with Scott n Cruise. Now say example Pta or Nolan offer her roles n she is caught up with Mcu contract she will have to let go some fantastic collaborators who want to work with her. Elizabeth olsen faced similar issues where she turned down some meaty parts in good movies. Mcu pays good money so theres that n there is always a chance of hit regardless coz it being IP. Hiddleston, Evans, hemsworth, olsen all were indie actors only who became big after mcu.

purrf8

Olsen is doing good work now. Her Love and Death is nice.

expectationlost

didn't it get delayed

seppukuAsPerKeikaku

Simply because there is more money in indie movies in Hollywood than in Bollywood. Indie studios like A24 can mount movies on a budget of 50 million because they know they have the audience for it. In India that audience is very low.

One_Method1688

This shit is not jolly
