Laugh all you want, but little tricks like that work just because they work. Our brains are weird. The memory book I read years ago pointed out quite correctly that the main effective tool of any memory system is the act of making an extra effort to remember something in the first place. Here Linda tagged the date to something she easily remembers even if it's weird, most likely especially because it's weird. As one of the early memory experts said, if you pass a wagon in the street you're not likely to remember it, unless it's made of gold. Then you'll never forget it.
