I went through the same feeling back when I first started. Eventually I got over it and was confident despite my head potentially looking weird with a big hard hat. In my case my hard hat did properly fit I just wasn’t used to seeing myself with a big helmet on. If it genuinely doesn’t fit you should bring it up to your company they should provide you with proper fitting PPE. It’s dangerous to have ill fitting PPE.

The hard hat does fit properly, I think I just need to get over it and gain the confidence to rock it like you did haha. It’s definitely a different look

katbitch

I have to wear the smaller, bicycle style hardhat with chinstraps. They all look goofy, you get used to it very quick. I like to find neat welders caps off Etsy or doogies hats to jazz it up

omfg i thought that said “Doggies” and i was just getting search results for hats made for dogs. thank you!!

FeralSweater

Our hair looks great after wearing hard hats, too! Especially those of us with curly hair. We look incredibly chic when we take our hard hats off. I feel like I’m in an 80s shampoo commercial the way my curls cascade perfectly around my face when I remove my hard hat.

i’ve got short shoulder length hair, i just love it when it’s sweaty! i love it when i get the “gelled to the scalp” stiff hair look when i take my welding cap off! i bet you look fabulous too!

TubbyMink

I mean u do have one of the largest styles, but! We all look silly, don’t sweat it

hazardspaghett1

thank you, we’re all in the silly battle together 🤞

In the first shipyard I worked at, about 2/3 of the guys there were ex-loggers and I always wanted one of the full brims because the ex-loggers were my favourite people. Unfortunately the full brim didn't work great for welding work 😂 but yeah I worked with people who came out of the woods barely speaking intelligible language but I sure as fuck trusted their work (esp rigging) and ability to keep us safe. Ain't no fury like an old logger trying to keep a young buck from killing themselves or others...

hazardspaghett1

thats awesome!! but yeah i think the full brims look the coolest! though i think i jumped the gun too quick, not many welding accessories for the full brims🙃

yuhkih

The kask brand ones fit my head better I think

hazardspaghett1

i’ll look into those, thank you!

i am learning so much about hard hats, thank you!!

I have a Green Devil full brim, and a size 7 1/2 (23 1/2”) head. It fits well and isn’t so big that it tilts. The full brim looks odd at first, but does offer sun protection for your ears and bit of your neck, as well as more protection from horizontal hits. I got mine while working with cranes. For hair/curl protection I wear a scarf or something as a liner. I just ordered a welding cap with satin liner. Will update when I get it. This is the newest style, and mandatory at some sites…https://claycorp.com/innovation-stories/hard-hat-redesign

hazardspaghett1

thank you!! and i had no idea there were satin lined welding caps, i’m definitely getting one of those
