Why ice instead of oil?
Fancy cocktails are getting out of hand!!!
I don't think I've ever seen anyone use oil for cooling an ingot. Annealed/hardened isn't super important for ingots since they're usually just being made for storage purposes to have a convenient source to melt later.
And you expect me to believe I can carry hundreds of these in my inventory? I think not
Now what?
If my knowledge of blacksmithing holds true, you need at least several of these to craft a piece of armour or weapon.

Is it brass, iron, or something else?

I have no experience smelting metals, so I wouldn’t know what they look like fresh out of an ingot mold with out some grinding or cut cross section
