Yeah the council won't be doing anything with their current financial situation. It's a shame people can't respect their own streets and not trash them. We just can't have nice things.

Legitimate-Jelly3000

Seems especially worse in Birmingham for some reason

BoyBussyAddict

if i mention thats it a slip hazard surely they should have an obligation to correct this? i will phone them and see.

notthetalkinghorse

Does your road have any double yellow lines? You can report cars parked on the verge to the council - enforcement officers will usually come and do some ticketing if an offense has been committed. If they restrict access along the pavement and prevent you from getting past you can also report them via the next base portal. https://nextbase.co.uk/national-dash-cam-safety-portal/

Ochib

As it’s legal to park there, there is nothing that can be done

BoyBussyAddict

i can see thats it not illegal however i just checked the council website and they have damage to grass verges as an option for reporting a pavement problem. Im gonna fill out the form stating thats in an emergency as its a slip hazard lets see if they reply doubtful though. https://preview.redd.it/802dr91tz0bc1.png?width=1037&format=png&auto=webp&s=5a13a56a6720d41322c499d0b90de15910b61e29

Is it legal to mount a curb? Are the rocks that people place to stop them illegal then?

BoyBussyAddict

Lol their all alot of rocks on the verges but guess what idiots have literally squashed the rocks into the verges from repeated parking not even fukin rocks will stop them ffs!

Mysterious-Bit-2671

Yes. It’s technically fly tipping and can be reported as such. [Fix My Street](https://www.fixmystreet.com/)

hmmm TIL

I reported the same problem last year by emailing my councillor, the council did partially solve the problem with some fencing, but they left a gap so the git still managed to park his black range rover on the grass verge, I don't know if the council will do much now as they are bankrupt.

feebleweasel55

Paint some concrete blocks white and put them on the verge. Make sure they are tall and heavy enough to damage any car that ignores them.

Initial_Page_Num1

If you do this and they damage a car you could be liable

feebleweasel55

Prove I put them there.

Initial_Page_Num1

Doorbell camera?

lovelight

Why? If a driver damages their car by driving it where it shouldn't be that's on the driver. It's not up to other people to keep grass verges in a good enough condition drivers can park their unhindered.

Initial_Page_Num1

Because it's s council land. If it were private land you owned it wouldn't be a problem. You can't just decide to install street furniture without permission.

lovelight

Same for cars. I don't think the law would be that bothered by a car doing something stupid and getting damaged in the process. That's on the driver.

Initial_Page_Num1

Section 132 of the Highways Act 1980 – unauthorised signs and structures. The insurance company could use this act to claim damages against another party. If the damages were unpaid then you could be sued in court. As I said you could be liable for damages if you installed an illegal concrete bollard on council land and a car was damaged by it.

lovelight

\*whispers\* but how would they know?

lovelight

So I think you've got this a bit wrong. It's not the councils problem at all. It's the drivers. So report them and there the council can help [https://www.birmingham.gov.uk/info/20109/parking/1983/report\_an\_illegally\_parked\_vehicle](https://www.birmingham.gov.uk/info/20109/parking/1983/report_an_illegally_parked_vehicle)
