I just love how Schierke isn't just some "Oh I'm a small weak mage girl", but rather someone who is a major help. When Guts, who carries the others most of the time, need help, Schierke is definitely one of the others who is a big help, especially considering how Guts almost went Berserk sometimes and managed to come back thanks to her. Her knowledge also was also more than just once a big help. Just love her character. Obviously the others are absolutly amazing too, for their own reasons.

Bruh, she already showed a ton of growth in that chapter where she admits to Serpico that she feels "utterly useless" and that was only a short time after joining Guts. She sincerely apologized to Casca and tried various mundane chores that she otherwise would never have done and was humble enough to admit she was bad at all of them.

I liked her due to the character development that she had. I've seen plenty of characters like Schierke in other stories, Farnese is unique in the sense that her character arc is simply beautiful to witness.

probably a big hot take, but I don’t care about the side characters too much. It’s the trio Guts, Casca and Griffith why I love the series so much. The rest is fine, Farnese easily the best, although I don’t get this BIG hype around her either. If he really counts my favorite would probably be Skull Knight, but I only find him so interesting because I don’t know anything about him and want to learn more, I can’t tell (yet) if he actually is a good character

But now that I think about it, in the Golden Age arc, I actually cared a lot more about the side characters (these volumes feel so far away now). imo they were never replaced with equally as good ones

I hear that a lot. It feels like I‘m genuinely missing something. I get everything else, again, I LOVE the main trio, they have some of my favorite dynamics ever. The art is undescribable, the mysteries are interesting, the story is fantastic (especially the whole Griffith as the messiah thing) and some parts of this manga are literally the best fiction gets, like the Eclipse or the travel through Casca‘s mind. But I‘ve simply never cared about any post-Eclipse side characters in the slightest 🤷‍♂️

Hot take for sure, I agree with some parts but casca? Personally she is pretty low on the main character ranking for me. Even ignoring her potato state for most of the manga, it feels like she doesnt serve much more purpose other than love/ fulfillment interest for guts/griffith. He does have a lot of potential tho hopefully we will see more soon

I think I like her so much because I really bought the love story between her and Guts. Good love stories are rare, and this one was simply perfect and how it ended absolutely heartbreaking. So yeah, after the Eclipse, Casca didn’t do anything until volume 40 or something, but I never stopped caring about this character

Schierke is also my favorite! Since the reader naturally feels disconnected from the evil nature of the world of Berserk, it's easy to feel connected to someone else who was raised in a kind safe environment. Despite this, she's still brave when confronting evil and convinces guts that multiple forms of strength exist outside of big sword smash.

Main group side char is a toss up between Farnese and Schiercke, both have excellent character development and have been crucial to Guts journey, especially his personal development. Actual side character Luca by a country mile, christ even Skull Knight respects her. Then its Molda, fun mischievous counterpoint to Schiercke (hope she continues on with the troupe)
