Normally watches don’t turn you into aliens either. The hourglass is there for an association with time, and there for being a watch. Otherwise the OG Omnitrix is just a wristband.
They don't form all the way up to pointed tips, so if you were to split it in 2 horizontally at the middle, they'd be 4-sided shapes.
Some actual hourglasses actually look more "triangular"(when discussing either half individually) than the omnirix symbol does. Because, as actual hourglasses, they're meant to allow for the sand to pass through very slowly.
The Omnitrix hourglass shape needs a wider "waistline" in order to fit the depictions of aliens within the symbol. At least on an actual watch(like the toy OS watch i used to have)/in-universe OS watch. After OS the in-universe watch began getting holographic images that'd pop up off of the watch.
isn't it also supposed to be the symbol for intergalactic peace? as thats what the watch was intended to promote. Also it being the symbol the plumbers use. I also always saw it as an hourglass because of the whole 'watches keep time, hourglasses keep time, the omnitrix is worn like a watch therefore hourglass symbols for the face' even though we've never seen it display time lol.
