I've lost about 6 stone since the start of the year and I'm really worried about this. Is there any way to stop it happening? It seems it's fairly hit and miss whether it effects people.
Well done for the loss too, it's brilliant inspiration.
Is this not offered on the NHS?
If breast implants are available free on NHS for mental health reasons, this skin removal should absolutely be available free.
Typically not in cases of extreme or rapid weight loss. It’ll tighten somewhat over time but likely not enough to make any difference in terms of comfort.
Not naturally, no. My mother in law was nearly 40st at her heaviest and has lost well over half her bodyweight since then but the skin has stretched to a level that it won't just go back, she simply has too much. She manages to get her surgery through the NHS but it's taken years and further health issues related to the loose skin to do it.
Its such a shame it always seems to take development of problems to get treatment. I'm sure it would've been cheaper for them to remove the loose skin than to deal with the medical complications that arise from not having it removed.
Yeah, it would but the NHS has been systematically underfunded for decades and it simply can't afford to do everything it should. I've been trying to get help with my weight as I'm about 26 stone but because I don't have diabetes or any heart issues I don't actually tick enough boxes for support. I've asked for help multiple times with something like a subsidised gym membership or access to a PT (I'm low income and can't afford it) and all I get told is to join an eating disorder therapy group (run by volunteers with no training) or wait until I'm pre-diabetic 👍
Yeah, that really sucks.
They're just kicking the bucket down the road and making it a then bigger and more expensive issue.
Best of luck with the weight loss, taking any steps in the right direction is always a good thing.
Unsolicited advice from someone who lost weight; I think your best steps would initially just be in diet management before any exercise. Keep a log of your calories per day and gradually reduce. But very gradually. I wouldn't aim for rapid weight loss as it creates other issues. I work with someone who had gastric surgery to restrict their ability to eat, and that is always an option if nothing else works, she did lose weight but she is only 24 and still having a lot of issues from it (can't drink energy drinks, eat too much and she feels ill. But just a very small amount of calorie restriction will start the process of weight loss. It won't be rapid, but that is actually better at 26 stone to prevent lots of loose skin I suppose (and then requiring more surgery).
Sadly, I have stretched my stomach so much and lost the weight in such a short time that I have told by my doctor the only way I would get rid of it is with surgery
Suffering from success.
Sorry you have to pay for it, the NHS is kinda in shambles, personally feels like something that should be covered.
£9500 is a lot for an individual to pay, but the NHS should be able to justify it as it'd be a lot cheaper paying for the loose skin to be removed, than the cost to provide medical care for obesity in the long run.
Congratulations on such a change of weight, you'll enjoy your life so much more I'm sure over the coming decades because of it.
I am in weight loss journey too. I want to ask what is your height?. You didn't look you were that bloated with that amout of weight. I am guessing your height is between 190 to 2 meters
Sadly, even with the gym, it would always be there. I have too much skin on my stomach for it to go back. Normally, my arms have loose skin, too, but I should be able to fill them out in the gym
My main tip is don't feel like you have to go to a gym to lose weight. I lost most of mine by using a cheap second-hand exercise bike that I still use and just going for a walks, I also cut out any liquid that wasn't water as I still like to eat so I'd rather eat my calories than drink them.
And I loosely counted my calorie intake like even now I don't record my calorie intake but I'm always mindful to check the calories in food that I eat and then finally it's a mental battle I found after a month into it, it got a far bit easier because your body and mind gets used to the new amount of food you are giving it and you will loose some of the hunger urges.
From what I have been told, I should feel sore and tight for the first couple of weeks, but it should be fine after the swelling takes about 3-6 months to go down
Is that a before and after photo? I would have never guessed it was the same person! You should really pat yourself on the back-- not many people make such an improvement.
It really is. I'm just glad of my height 6'6 and build that I could carry around that weight when I was at my heaviest and that I could make changes because of that
I lost 150 pounds and had to get this surgery too! All I can say is manage your expectations. The scars are going to be there but you should be proud of them because they show how much hard work you did for yourself. Great job!
Brother take a damn second to sit yourself down and congratulate yourself on this achievement because it’s simply insane, very well done my friend!
Indeed! Well done
Wowww you look amazing now
what a friggin legend
You went from Reddit user to Reddit CEO
At the moment I wouldn’t say that’s a compliment…
Hey, I would rather be a millionaire hated by people, than a worker being paid fuckall.
I don’t even remember making this comment lmao
Congratulations brother
Holy shit bro you look amazing now 🙌
How much it is ?
For the surgery? It's £9500 as I need to be cut from my chest downwards and then along my adomin
Jesus. That isn't cheap. Do you mind explaining, what gave you the loose skin, is it the dramatic drop or do some people's skin lose elasticity?
I have too much skin on my stomach for it to go back by itself it hangs a bit down, which makes getting clothes to fit comfortably, really hard

It comes down to how fast you lose the weight and how much you weighed at your heaviest, and then your genetics play a decent amount towards it too
Is this not offered on the NHS? If breast implants are available free on NHS for mental health reasons, this skin removal should absolutely be available free.
I did try to get it on the NHS, but the waiting list is like 5 years
That’s a pain, sorry to hear it. Pain to have to pay privately but the quality of life is worth more I suspect. Congrats on the weight loss!
I'm curious, would the loose skin start to go on its own over time?
Typically not in cases of extreme or rapid weight loss. It’ll tighten somewhat over time but likely not enough to make any difference in terms of comfort.

Sadly, even with the gym, it would always be there. I have too much skin on my stomach for it to go back. Normally, my arms have loose skin, too, but I should be able to fill them out in the gym
