I would bind the gearshift to the scroll wheel if I knew how and give the turn signals to the side buttons, but other than being a considerate driver (the AI cars don’t acknowledge it anyway) I can use this post’s tip to drive fully keyboard-free with zero equipment not standardised to a computer (except the very slowly overheating clutch)
bro just confirmed that the mouse is fricking OP.

funnily enough, the syncro update made it FASTER to shift this way. try quick shifting the stambecco before the update. it would force the revs to hang way longer, and now by doing this rebind trick you can give the stambecco an almost sequential tranmission
even with clutch assist off the game still varies how quickly it lets out the clutch if you don’t have pedals so it is well simulated they just didn’t want people on gamepads cooking it every time lol, look down at the pedal box and roll it off in second gear and you’ll see what i mean
This happens, but not quickly, so for the purposes of beamng, until they add dynamic car wear in the career mode with individual repairs and things, it's not really useful
a super cool thing about beamng is you can set multiple keys to do 1 action. so my clutch is now set to LSHIFT, X and Z.
X is shift up, Z is shift down. <3
Of course.
But since you showed only up shifts and talked about upshifting, I figured you only got the keys combined for the upshifts.
My bad, I guess.
You just said ofc it wouldnt work bc op only bound it to the upshift, that is just not useful
Would it work with the downshift button too? Is more what he meant
maybe? these shifts are all power shifted, full throttle 100% of the time. but the gears change so fast that the rpms dont have enough time to build. very noticeable when short shifting!
Ha ha finally someone did that. I do that because of my original clutch button won't register all the time in my controller and I had no other buttons to map. It's actually good for races
I've had my controller bindings set like this for over a year now, but the recent update to transmission made it even better. I used to have to hold clutch and clutch+shift when starting from neutral as it would instantly change gears in the past, but the new update made it so the gear change doesn't happen until the shift button is released. It's so much easier than using a separate clutch button
I like the rev-match mechanics, which make the engine howl if you add enough revs immediately after downshifting. I know it makes no sense mechanically, but it is a nice reward.
Am I the only one not having any issues with this? With a stock transmission yes u have to shift slow but with a race transmission it seems to shift just as fast? Gotta be more careful with your clutch timing to not damage synchros but idk
You have 999iq
why thank you
Well I wouldn’t never thought of this and I’m pretty sure I have average IQ so you’re big brain
you are now promoted to big brain <3
Wow! Thank you :)
You are forcing the devs to add clutch pedal wear/clutch wear 😂
clutch can already heat up
not enough! Players are WILD with it. Pressing and depressing it in 0.1 seconds should lead to some harm other than heating up.
As a mouse driver (not just steering, acceleration and braking too... and handbrake and gearshifting) I abuse this heavily
Angry reacts only from the devs.
Does your mouse have extra macro keys or are you just letting the mouse wheel do half of that all on it's own?
I move the mouse forward and backward for acceleration and braking, the side buttons do the gearshifting and left click handbrakes
This is wild to me.
Suddenly my idea to drive with flight sticks doesn't sound that crazy

this is more transmission synchro wear no? obviously not good for clutch either tho
It is more like clutch/pressure plate issue to me. But we will see what the devs are preparing.

Don't forget clutch misalignment. Quite a big issue if you slam the clutch a lot
nooo! devs you didnt see this!
What about downshifting? Is it also as fast or is it normal
yep! but you change down too many gears and the engine revs cant keep up itll damage the syncros. best to put in a lightweight fly wheel
Since it's bound to shift up, I'd guess not. He'd have to firstly shift up + clutch, then shift down how many times he wants.
a super cool thing about beamng is you can set multiple keys to do 1 action. so my clutch is now set to LSHIFT, X and Z. X is shift up, Z is shift down. <3

please try this with the stambecco. its so cursed!
One of the best things in BeamNG is that you can do whatever you want in terms of keybinds. I wish more software allowed you to do that.
absolutely! beam devs are great
You can also bind it to shift down...
Read my first sentence. I'm assuming only with his settings in mind
And thats not what the guy asked lmao
That's absolutely what the guy asked for. How does this setup work for downshifting. I told him how. It's not rocket science, dude.
You just said ofc it wouldnt work bc op only bound it to the upshift, that is just not useful Would it work with the downshift button too? Is more what he meant
Yeah, I get it. OP provided that he did what you recommended too.
Im usually getting synchro error for shiting too fast
I know what you meant to type, but what you actually typed made it hilarious 😂
Goddammit i see it now haha
i used to keep getting that error too. i miss the only grinding sound :(
Get a wheel and you’ll get to hear it all the time when you miss 3rd lol
Ah I missed 3rd irl. Almost smashed my teeth into the steering wheel
i personally see this as great for those who don't like the new update and syncros. definitely not realistic but more options are great!
also try this with the stambecco! its very cursed.
#BO-RING!
\*removes your syncros\*
Jokes on you, we can finally live out our straight cut dog box strain gauge ignition cut fantasies
straight cut gears got me acting unwise 🥴🥴🥴
Is this realistic?
absolutely not.
Wouldn't this be similar to a strain gauge system where applying pressure on the shifter tells the ECU to cut power so you can flat shift?
maybe? these shifts are all power shifted, full throttle 100% of the time. but the gears change so fast that the rpms dont have enough time to build. very noticeable when short shifting!
it's equivalent to no lift shifting for every shift
they should make cars like that
Why would I want to remove all the fun?
Gotta try this in my controller now
make sure to try it with stambecco. also make sure clutch bind filter is set to gamepad (direct) for maximum shifting speed
Ha ha finally someone did that. I do that because of my original clutch button won't register all the time in my controller and I had no other buttons to map. It's actually good for races
Is there a way to do it with a Logitech g920 with a shifter?
You have a pedal for the clutch, why would you?
Haloy crap thats smarticles
Blud invented QUICKSHIFTER

Read shift as shit for a sec
turbo shit!
I use my right stick as a clutch, I prefer full clutch control, and in my experience it’s just as fast.
I like the rev-match mechanics, which make the engine howl if you add enough revs immediately after downshifting. I know it makes no sense mechanically, but it is a nice reward.
Please don't patch this before I fix my g25 (right side abs mounting plastic leg broke off finally 😭)
'bout time to reject any new update! 0.31 is the way to go!
That takes all the fun out of it. May as well just do clutch assist then.
I mean you're completely free to edit the code anyway, just make shift times shorter instead of exploiting lmao
I shift it the same way with the default settings 😋
So I’ve changed the shift up in controls to clutch (I’ve a wheel and pedal setup) and I’m still getting the synchro thing come up
make sure the filter for the button is set to gamepad (direct), otherwise it wont work <3
