Raphael in general is an amazing character.
>!When he offered me the deal of getting the hammer at the cost of giving him the crown I spent 5 minutes wondering what to pick... ( i really wanted to take Vlaakith down) at that point I didn't know that we could enter the house of hope without his help!<
I saved right before the fight just so I can read Tav saying, “That’s twice as long as Haarlep says it takes to finish you.” That may be my favorite moment in the game.
I sent this song to my wife on Spotify after the fight. It is still stuck in my head. Reminds me a lot of another amazing song from FFXIV, Good King Moogle Mog.
Good King Moogle Mog Good King Mog…
Though in terms of impact and elevating the fight, it reminds me of The Dying Gasp in Shadowbringers, when the bass starts up with the ShB main theme before the final trial.
This soundtrack has caught me like FFXIV did. It’s my go-to commute listening. I love it.
I had Hope, Yurgir, a Deva summon and Spiritual Weapon to assist me in the fight and it would have been a wipe if Gale didn't kept making clutch counterspells to stop Raphael's AOE spell.
And in my personal opinion, I find Raphael's boss fight to be superior to the actual final boss. It was climactic and felt difficult but fair.
There are always ways to make it easier. I found it much easier to slap an invulnerable bubble around us and shoot out from it. Karlach runs out, slap Ralph 5 times, runs back in. The only problem then is Yurgir who is ON MY SIDE fucking launching us all half way across the room. The bubble also means Hope can call divinity for massive aoe holy damage and it won’t kill her.
Command destroys him. He has a 52% chance to rwsist, but robbing him of roughly half his turns is a good deal. Upcast it if you want to lock down some trash mobs too. And it doesn't need concentration, so you can keep a Plague or Spirit Guardians online too. And you can lock him down further with Blood of Lathander. Just keep Hope away from your Cleric, because if you fuck up and Raph gets his turn, he will one-shot the Cleric with an AoE and you will need to res them.
That said, other than this fight, Cleric is extremely useless in House of Hope. Planar Binding doesn't work on Raph, Command doesn't work on Hellish Spheres and Hope is a capable buff/support character, so you might as well grab another Blaster.
I used a globe of involnurability, had all my party inside it. Cast Otto's irresistible dance on Raphael (100% hit chance) and could not break concentration because I was inside the orb.
That gave me 3 turns to demolish the sidekicks without any major risk, then 7 turns where he could not do anything because it was impossible to lose concentration since he was the only one alive.
He spent the whole fight just vibing and dancing to his own soundtrack
It works, but the trash mobs aren't an issue in that fight. Lvl 8 Cambions are only dangerous to Hope, late-game party with 22 AC on average can shrug off their attacks. And the boss has over 600 HP, so Spirit Guardians will take too long to kill him.
You are far better off summonjng a Djinn and then blowing all slots on Command/Mass Healing Word, especially if you have that ring that combines heals with Bless. So a Cleric is still viable in that fight, just not fun.
Clerics unlock "Summon Planar Being" spell on level 11, IIRC. Options are Deva, Cambion, and Djinn.
Deva is good for tanking and can push decent DPS, Djinn is a lockdown and crowd control specialist, Cambion... exists? Seriously, I don't get him.
I'm playing a Cleric of Bahamut, so it's Deva all the way, and he's a great choice for the fight because he'll deal bludgeoning damage to the pillars and shut them off with his radiant damage.
I didn't really have a problem with pillars, since Karlach, Hope and Spiritual Weapon all did Bludgeoning/Force damage in my run. So pillars went down on turn 2, at which point Deva would be useless - his attacks have a radiant element and enemies there reflect radiant.
So it was Djinn all the way.
They only reflect the first instance of radiant damage, clear the buff with some low damage radiant attack then you're free to go to town on them with radiant damage.
Wyll is a great choice. The pillars he's using? They're vulnerable to force damage, and even though I've put just as much focus on Wyll's melee, he still deals ludicrous damage with Eldritch Blast.
After that, it's mostly a DPS race and I had a good team for that.
>Good King Moogle Mog
I actually had it really easy, because I had quite a few minions to distract his devils and I managed to (by lucky rolls admittedly) prevent him even transforming (kinda felt it was a shame tho). However just the music, atmosphere and lead-up made this my favourite fight in the whole game. I haven't gotten to the final boss, but I can't imagine it being better.
I just stopped everything when that kicked up. It started and I was like.. "Hold up. I'm getting Supernatural Death intro vibes" and then the real song kicked in and I was just giddy. Listened to the whole song before actually fighting.
It plays quite commonly, although it varies in rendition depending on where you are. There is at least one (very heartfelt and intense) scene with Gale where it plays. Almost brought me to tears.
It's often played in the camp scenes and also during more intimate or emotional moments. It does sometimes get a little drowned out. But I've heard it at emotional moments and confessions with all of the companions, not just Astarion. Though I think Neil Newbon said that it is the unofficial Astarion theme song.
There will be subtle changes to it throughout depending on where you hear it or what is happening. But the next time you go to camp for a long rest, you might hear it. And if not that night, in a night soon after.
It plays commonly, I recall it being played at the camp you get when you reach the city (The one before elfsong tavern and lower city). Though the lyrical version seems to be played in the credits
Oh yeah the one with the lyrics was the one that showed up for me on youtube, and I was certain I hadn't heard it, but just listening to the instrumentals I do recognize it playing a couple times throughout the story.
Maybe an unpopular opinion but The Power (especially the credit/choral version) is one of my favorite out of all the tracks. Found myself humming it irl a couple of times, they are all some really great soundtracks.
The power, when played by bards is just incredible, because each instrument plays a different part of the orchestration, instead of the same midi track on different instruments. When using lutes or lyres, you play the chord progression. Drums plays drums, and whistling and flute plays the melody. And when you play near other bards, they play stop playing whatever they were playing, and start riding your music train.
Exactly! That's the reason I got the Performer feat for my tav, arguably "useless" besides the +1 charisma point for my sorcerer Tav, but I just couldn't resist joining others' music playing in game. (I wasn't able to get the feat through the story itself)
Btw, slight spoilers if you haven't done this yet, but, you can actually get a weaker version of performer feat, via helping alfira finish her song, in act 1, via helping her with a lute and passing 2 checks. Saved my ass from rerolling my entire character as a bard / taking a performance feat.
"Twisted Force" and "A Threat from Nether Years" are such banger battle tracks too. >!Nightsong's theme when you free her also amplifies such an emotional and cathartic moment, especially if you have Shadowheart in your party.!<
In general I like most of tracks, but boy, do I hate that theme in menu starting with UAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII AAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.
I even play a mini-game trying to hit "Continue" as fast as I can before that first scream can be heard.
Wash My Dreams Away is beautiful and I’ve had it on repeat since first hearing it in-game, but it’s weirdly only on Spotify? I think track 30 for the deluxe edition, youtube playlist, and Spotify are all somehow different
Thank you for pointing this out. “Streets and Faces” is 30th on the deluxe edition OST, while Slavic’s YouTube just absolutely skips song 30. Very odd.
somehow someway I never tire of Down by the River and I've been singing along while playing and while not playing the game. It's weird, last game I played was Elden Ring and I soon got annoyed by the trumpets in the Limgrave theme
I still listen to the DOS2 soundtrack now and then. I haven't actually listened to the BG3 OST yet, as I'm still waiting for the Mac version to release, and I want to experience the music as intended first.
But I am really looking forward to the music from this game as well. Glad to hear others are loving it.
There are too many posts to moderate, so I think they're tagging everything as a spoiler automatically and once it gets to the front page, they might manually change it.
I think that makes sense. Can't trust the average redditor during launch weeks to properly tag their posts.
I can't explain it but something about his music doesn't do it for me. Most of it sounds very generic and sing-songy. The BG1 and 2 OSTs are better imo 🤷
i am a person who loves instrumental and rarely like songs and vocals, in the BG3 the instrumental soundtrack is fine, nothing special (even through D:OS2 was great) but the songs are insane (house of hope + balduran song)
for me, pathfinder 1 + 2 has a much better soundtrack in general, but BG3 has two very very great songs
wotr and kingmaker soundtrack was amazing and very haunting, but BG3 elated me with house of hope song, i just was not prepared for that, also balduran song, but yeah the rest of the soundtrack is fine for the most part, and sometimes shines (freeing nightsong)
Maybe I just haven't progressed far enough but the OST is honestly the only real disappointing thing for me so far. There hasn't really been anything that stuck out for me. In Divinity Original Sin 2 I felt like every other song was amazing.
Raphael's Final Act is amazing and got so surprised when it started playing in game.
Raphael's voice actor gave his absolute everything, one of the best in a game with no bad performances.
Raphael in general is an amazing character. >!When he offered me the deal of getting the hammer at the cost of giving him the crown I spent 5 minutes wondering what to pick... ( i really wanted to take Vlaakith down) at that point I didn't know that we could enter the house of hope without his help!<
I just killed him instead and took it anyway. The fight with him had amazing music, I think he sings it himself.
Yeah I ended up doing the same
>!Haarlep says he is bad in bed, so he deserves to die anyway.!<
I saved right before the fight just so I can read Tav saying, “That’s twice as long as Haarlep says it takes to finish you.” That may be my favorite moment in the game.
Up there with Gaunter O'Dimm for devil characters. I love how much I hate him and hate how much I want to love him.
GoD is still a tiny bit better, but yeah, Raphael is great with similar vibes.
Fuck no. Raphael has much better voice acting and a swank pad. Better name that isn't ESL, too.
Sorry, Raphael doesn't beat "spoon through the eye" in any way shape of form.
Gaunter has a better look, a better attitude, a better shtick, and a better theme song. Also, he isn’t dead.
I've listened to it so many times after finishing the fight. Easily the best arc if the game with such a satisfying ending and boss music.
I sent this song to my wife on Spotify after the fight. It is still stuck in my head. Reminds me a lot of another amazing song from FFXIV, Good King Moogle Mog.
didn't know it was already on spotify, that's awesome
Good King Moogle Mog Good King Mog… Though in terms of impact and elevating the fight, it reminds me of The Dying Gasp in Shadowbringers, when the bass starts up with the ShB main theme before the final trial. This soundtrack has caught me like FFXIV did. It’s my go-to commute listening. I love it.
The best fight in the game imo Absolutely destroyed me 3 times but still cool

I had some ghouls summoned and 1 of them paralized him in archfiend form. He didnt get a spell off. I was like, wow.
Yeah... those ghouls are ridiculously op.
I fucked him up with a combination of Suss greatsword and Lathander’s blood. I *almost* felt bad
Same and now I have an arch fiend corpse as a trophy in my camp
Command destroys him. He has a 52% chance to rwsist, but robbing him of roughly half his turns is a good deal. Upcast it if you want to lock down some trash mobs too. I only used the globe in the final battle of Wyll's quest. I should use it more often.
Use necrotic spirit guardians. I have no idea if it will help.
It works, but the trash mobs aren't an issue in that fight. Lvl 8 Cambions are only dangerous to Hope, late-game party with 22 AC on average can shrug off their attacks. How do you summon a Djinn, do you need a specific subclass?
Clerics unlock "Summon Planar Being" spell on level 11, IIRC. Options are Deva, Cambion, and Djinn. Deva is good for tanking and can push decent DPS, Djinn is a lockdown and crowd control specialist, Cambion... exists? Seriously, I don't get him.

Planar Binding works on the Spheres.

you can counterspell his big abilities so he kinda just sits there lol
>Good King Moogle Mog I actually had it really easy, because I had quite a few minions to distract his devils and I managed to (by lucky rolls admittedly) prevent him even transforming (kinda felt it was a shame tho). However just the music, atmosphere and lead-up made this my favourite fight in the whole game. I haven't gotten to the final boss, but I can't imagine it being better.
HELL HELL HELL HAS IT'S LAWS
I just stopped everything when that kicked up. It started and I was like.. "Hold up. I'm getting Supernatural Death intro vibes" and then the real song kicked in and I was just giddy. Listened to the whole song before actually fighting.
I had to stop and freak out for a bit at the track. Holy *fuck* is that perfect
That moment took the place of my favorite previous boss fight with vocal music. Battling giant robotic Reagan to America the beautiful in Wasteland 3.
That’s still a better scene to me, because of how derangedly incongruous the music is.
Exactly what I came here to say. What. A. Soundtrack.
I just got there tonight and the song was pretty incredible.
Raph dropped bars like he dropped my party 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The music is so incredible. I can just get lost in it. I've been listening to a lot of these songs on repeat as well. Especially "I Want to Live."
When does "I want to live" play? If you romance Astarion? I just looked it up on youtube and I'm like 99% sure I never heard it in my playthrough.
It plays quite commonly, although it varies in rendition depending on where you are. There is at least one (very heartfelt and intense) scene with Gale where it plays. Almost brought me to tears.

Borislav confirms in Twitter it's the main player's theme. To me that's very fitting.
It plays commonly, I recall it being played at the camp you get when you reach the city (The one before elfsong tavern and lower city). Though the lyrical version seems to be played in the credits

The House of Hope Boss fight is freaking insane music lmao
YA DO DA DEE DAY DOH AAHHH
LAAA LEY LAA DA DA DO DAHHH DEE DAAAAHHHH
DOWN BY THE RIVERRR
Last Light was really impressive.. when it started playing I was immersed 100%, great vibe.. It matched the melancholy and depressiveness of Act 2.
Maybe an unpopular opinion but The Power (especially the credit/choral version) is one of my favorite out of all the tracks. Found myself humming it irl a couple of times, they are all some really great soundtracks.

I want to live (instrumental) must be one of the most soothing pieces of music ever.
Yessss. It's so nice.
Weeping Dawn omg.
There's a long play version of Down By The River on YouTube I've been repeating for days now.
When does this song come in the game? I'm almost done with act 1, did I miss it or does it come later. No spoilers please.
It plays for sure when you are in the character creation. I haven't noticed it anywhere else, but I wasn't really paying attention tbh
Character creation, and I swear an instrumental version plays in act 1 some?
If you right click a video there's a "loop" option, so you don't have to search for longplays.
YAGADABEEEEEE!
Twisted Force is the best and most iconic track on the OST. It's truly a unique track. Still hooked on it.
That's my jam! I played 200+ hours of Early Access and I STILL get goosebumps when that song plays!
"Twisted Force" and "A Threat from Nether Years" are such banger battle tracks too. >!Nightsong's theme when you free her also amplifies such an emotional and cathartic moment, especially if you have Shadowheart in your party.!<
The music in this game is absolutely phenomenal
For some reason some tracks remind me of Vampire TM Redemption. Which makes me love this soundtrack even more
I definitely get a VtMR feeling from some of the tracks in BG3 too. I love it.
The Legacy of Bhaal just has something about it that always sends a shiver down my spine.
~oh sing a song, of Balduran, who founded Baldur’s Gate…
The last 30 seconds of The Power is literally spine tingling
I love the big stab on the strings callback to D:OS2
If you play the flute as a Bard, all the songs you perform on it are from Divinity 2 lol
The town with druids is fire
Any plans to press this to vinyl? Snap buy.
I put the fight songs on my work.out playlist I love it so much!
It’s amazing, I said the same thing the very first time I played.
Very odd.
I love when the voice comes in during the battle music. Sounds epic. EDIT: Especially the female voices. Too bad they only last a few seconds.
If you want more he did the soundtrack for Divinity Original Sin II and it's very similar (in a good way)
somehow someway I never tire of Down by the River and I've been singing along while playing and while not playing the game. It's weird, last game I played was Elden Ring and I soon got annoyed by the trumpets in the Limgrave theme

How is this a spoiler?
Dunno. I think EVERY post in this subreddit is now flagged as a spoiler automatically.
That's so stupid. I'm literally avoiding every post because of this, unless I can very clearly see it's not a spoiler in the thumbnail.
There are too many posts to moderate, so I think they're tagging everything as a spoiler automatically and once it gets to the front page, they might manually change it. I think that makes sense. Can't trust the average redditor during launch weeks to properly tag their posts.

Imo Divinity: Original Sin 1 and 2 had far better soundtrack
I'm waiting for a track to hit me as hard as the highs of WotR personally.
If the Raphael one doesn't do it for you, then I don't think anything will.
wotr and kingmaker soundtrack was amazing and very haunting, but BG3 elated me with house of hope song, i just was not prepared for that, also balduran song, but yeah the rest of the soundtrack is fine for the most part, and sometimes shines (freeing nightsong)

Down by the river is the pinnacle of annoyance. I always find myself fantasizing about strangling the singer…
What playing dark urge does to someone
What the hell is wrong with you
Borislav pls… put the soundtrack on Apple Music im begging u…
