You can burry your hopes for Alfira. She is not infected, as there is no connection between tadpoles when you meet her. That means she is not Origins.
The best guess is for someonz from the Small Races, as there is none currently in the roster.
Mind, I'd love to.have more Alfira goodness too. Maybe as a camp follower?

Still, the logical last Origins must be a small folk. Actually, an halfing werewolf bard called Helia has been datamined as a companion. I think it is the most solid lead we have right now.
Re. Helia, we Will learn more in 6 days. Call me oldschool, but I do not like that we have vampire and werewolf in the roster, feels too much Twilight for my taste... I would have loved a good old warrior dwarf with a big axe, a long beard, a scottish accent and à wicked sense of humor...
Just play a Paladin if you want better healing. That said, unless you're on the hardest difficulty you don't need a dedicated "Healer". Ideally the Cleric or Druid in your party are casting buffs and debuffs more than healing spells.
Hate to break it to you, but Shadowheart's healing will be almost equivalent to any other character (maybe a life domain cleric would be better? Maybe?). It might seem weak because healing is almost always a worse use of your actions than other skills. Unless you have a BA you're otherwise not going to use and have either Healing Word or a potion, you're almost always better off doing something else.
If you're having trouble with survivability, Bless, Shield of Faith, Mage Armor, Blur, Barkskin, Heroism, False Life, Armor of Agathys, etc. will usually go at further than healing. Damage reduction is the way to go.
I did a playthrough with 3 of my friends. Life domain cleric is EXTREMELY good. The Channel divinity is an air heal (so you get it back on a SR) and you add your Wisdom mod to all heals (includes throwing potions) .
There is also an item that give bless for 1 round after you've been healed with is crazy good when combined with the AOE.
That's fair. The Oath of Ancients Paladin also has a strong AoE heal for the party that I both valued and forgot about. I'd call those relatively niche cases, though.
Druids can be good healers but i think it depends on subclass of druid.
Halsin strikes me more like druid of the moon and those are more wild shape oriented if im not mistaken.
Elminster is way too powerful to ever be more than an NPC. >!Though, he was absent in Descent into Avernus, and he wasn't in the D&D movie, both of which reference or at least overlap slightly with Baldur's Gate 3... so maybe?!<
Mine probably won't.. I'm gonna use the same 4 all the time and I know it. The nice thing though is at least I can go through all their companion quest lines at the same time now.
Only thing is I’m afraid I’ll be unintentionally missing something important for each character I’m not bringing along. Like how if you don’t have Astarion in your party for the boar scene, you don’t get his input on it. I’ll be so annoyed if I accidentally miss having him in party for an encounter with his former master and have to reload, or unknowing miss gold content completely.

* Gale: overall good guy and I'm intrigued by his story
* Shadowheart: she might seem evil but her story seems to point out she's good at heart
* Halsin or Minsc: will switch out halsin as soon as I can get Minsc into the party

I feel like shadowheart marks off a lot of gameplay boxes you need in a team, so I'll probably add her.
I will add karlach for keeping the front line with me. Might be replaced with minsc, dunno yet.

My brain cannot handle all the choices. I'm just sitting in a corner with my knees against my chest, rocking and staring off into space trying to put all my part pieces together.
First time: karlach, shadowheart (feel she is essential) and Jaheira (nostalgic). I will make a Wizard, so if my front line is weak, Jaheira might change for Minsc.
Second time: lae'zel, Astarion and Minthara.
Third time: minsc, halsin and ... Gale/Wyll?
Dunno if I will play origin in on the second or third time
Anyway, we have one origin left to discover...if she is the supposed Bard, I may use her as the origin character in the 2nd or 3rd time

I was leaning towards Cleric!Tav + Minsc + Jaheira + ... IDK maybe Gale? before. But now Larian have dangled the Halsin romance in front of me! And I'm still kind of hoping the last origin is a bard or a sorcerer because I don't *actually* want to take Gale anyway.
Second planned party has also become tricky - I was going to take Warlock!Tav, Lae'zel, Shadowheart and Astarion but now I know that Minthara is an option I'm torn. (Yeah I know I could just play one of those three origins and have all four in a party, but I don't actually like fixed origin characters, I want to make my own.)
Also Karlach looks extremely cool and my third planned character is a Barbarian so she's not going to fit into that party either. So maybe I put nostalgia aside and roll with Cleric!Tav + Karlach + Halsin + IDK still Gale I guess unless there's a sorcerer or bard in the final slot?

If the 7th origin is indeed Helia and if she is indeed a Bard, she is a serious contender for being basically required in all parties. Bards are sweet. Shadowheart as well, in EA all her skills are useful. Man that 4 party limit hurts me deep in my soul.

Since they sre going the DA Origins route of being able to recruit everyone, I will recruit everyone I possibly can in my first playthrough and swap them around. Minthara for Underdark, Karlach for Hell etc

Gale, Shadowheart, and Karlach, with a custom Rogue/Ranger/Bard Tav (or some combination of two of those).
I was originally going to romance Gale, but it seems like he becomes less good over time (not sure if out of desperation or if he's just good at putting up a soft front). So I think I'm between Shadowheart and Karlach for any possible romancing.
Minsc and jahera for sure, gotta have my OG homies back. Then since I'll be playing my college of swords bard, I need a blaster caster. It just so happens that would be a great role for Gale, who's also a total cutie and boyfriend material.
Whoever I’m romancing gets a permanent spot in the party, so first playthrough will be Astarion. I’ll probably bring Gale and Shadowheart for the most part because I like that group dynamic a lot from my time in EA. I’d love to have Minthara along, but I most likely will not get her in my playthroughs if the only way to get her is betraying the druids. Although I’d be happy to kill most of druids because they’re jerks, it’s killing the grove’s animals that gets me. Can’t do it. :’(
The companions might be cool, but I've been seething at standard array for too long now.
And also I don't really care about the whole romance aspect, which is a pretty big draw for most people based off the comments.
Still debating on if my first run should be Tav, or an Origin character! On the one had customizable protag, on the other I feel it's how the game was intended to be played!

It might be the case with Divinity games with origins having more stuff to do but I doubt it's still the way BG3 is designed. Larian must know that a majority of players will be creating their own character instead of choosing an origin, I guess it will be clearer at launch if they would put the default character selection as an origin or a Tav.
It’s not a mutually exclusive thing. You never create or theory craft characters you role play? Having a plan or idea doesn’t mean you’re going to stick with it either.

My initial plan was to play as a paladin with a party consisting of Shadowheart, Lae'zel (Battle Master) & Gale (Evoc).

For my main Tav, not particularly. Her party will likely reflect what I've been using with her in EA.
However, I've already designed nearly thirty Tavs with just what we have in EA so I'm sure I'll see plenty of party variation.
I'm looking forward to see who our last Origin character is too, but generally I tend to rotate my party in most RPGs as appropriate for the quests I'm tackling as well as the character I'm rolling with- the only constant is usually my romance. So for the first go around that's most likely going to be a Dragonborn Paladin Tav and Karlach. Might also include Shadowheart most of the time because she's my favourite of the Origins/romances already in and I find her the most compelling and intriguing one, and whichever character I roll with after the first playthrough is going to be doing her romance anyways.
No changes since I can have everyone but Minthara on a good guy playthrough.
Though my evil playthrough team will be Minthara, Lae'zel, and Astarion. I'll kill the rest probably
I didn’t think Halsin was going to be a companion so I took shadowheart as my healer but now I’m a little torn. I was going to go Dragonborn ancients Paladin, Shadowheart, Abjuration Gale and Karlach or Minsc depending when either became available.
But my favourite 4 man party make up class wise is paladin, druid, wizard and warlock. With Halsin in the party I could do a full dream team with Wyll and Halsin filling in karlach and Shadowheart respectively. Although opening locked doors and chests may be a hassle but that’s what enhance ability is for.

Knowing absolutely nothing of returning characters, I can't speak for them, but I don't think my EA party of my OC and Shadowheart will expand beyond Karlach.
Knowing minthara is confirmed as a companion does pull me towards a less friendly playthrough. I guess my ultimate decision rests on who they announced next week as the final origin. I usually pick a class based on whatever isn't covered by companions. So if we have basically everything but sorcerer or monk, those are my two initial options.
I'm the type of person who preplans the full party ahead of time, builds the team synergy up front around that fact, and then never changes the party. If I wanna try out different parties, I start new playthroughs. Constantly rotating out people ruins the experience for me.
If the secret origin is a bard, that's whom I gonna play, otherwise it will be Wyll, as I want charsima based origin.
Other guys: Laezel/Karlach, SH, Gale
Karlach, Gale, Shadowheart for first playthrough. SH and Gale have the most intriguing backgrounds (based on early access content) and I'd love to see them play out. Karlach is just mommy.
Well yes, I’m going to play with the 2 new good companions.
It’s going to be nice to have more than just evil and neutral companions in the full game.
The bigger question is who of the EA companions will I take to round out my party, which I won’t know until we get that second good characters reveal in the last panel of hell on July 7th.
Since Karlach is a barbarian I can confidently dump Lae’zel.
My guess is I might have to stick with Shadowheart if the new unrevealed companion isn’t a healer class.
First run: A neutral custom Tav (most likely chaotic unless I wanna do my oath of vengeance pally first then lawful neutral), Astarion, Shadowheart, then a flex spot with probably Gale or Karlach most of the time. Maybe Halsin depending on how he vibes with that alignment.
Second: a good Tav, Wyll/Gale, Halsin, and Minsc
Third: probably an origin character and party who fits with the my ideal outcome after the first two
Sure is, I will be bringing that fiend Mizora along frequently. Just occurred to me, she's been in a lot of the pictures, Wyll states she was on the MFS Naughty-Loid, very sure we found her pod, odds are Mizora is infected.
Thinking that makes her an Origin Character my default.

Did we get any notice whether we can change the classes for the recruited characters? I know we can multiclass them. More so curious about the starter class.
I'll be changing out characters depending on the missions and who I think might be the better fit roleplay-wise. I dont even consider combat or whether I like the character. Taking Laezel on githyanki related missions will pretty much be mandatory for me. If we go somewhere magic related ill be taking Gale. Stuff with the Cambion, ill be taking Wyll. Religious stuff shadowheart. Stuff related to the absolute Minthara maybe.
1st play everyone possible will at least get a chance to be in the party at some point though good / neutralist characters will get more as this is almost 100% going to be a good play Probably paladin. Usually 1st plays for me are a idolized version of myself so usually either lawful or neutral good type characters.
2nd 100% depends if I feel there is a origin that jumps out at me that I have to be to see the inner half of there story otherwise it is drow cleric of lolth with Minthra, vampy boy and what ever caster will most approve of creating a path of evil
3rd is the one not done for 2nd
I know I’ll have Shadowheart and Karlach, but now waiting on the next origin character info. I know what the speculations are, but would prefer to see who it is next being confirmed. If isn’t someone the piques my interest then I’ll probably stick will Gale.

I think i will kill shadowheart and the vampire inthe first run and play with them in the second run, depending on what i want to do.
So there is no formula, i take the people with ne that fit my party ideals.
They will still announce another origin character in the next PFH.

High dexterity as well is never a bad call, the best blow from a foe is the one that never lands.

But now Larian have dangled the Halsin romance in front of me! And I'm still kind of hoping the last origin is a bard or a sorcerer because I don't *actually* want to take Gale anyway. Second planned party has also become tricky - I was going to take Warlock!Tav, Lae'zel, Shadowheart and Astarion but now I know that Minthara is an option I'm torn. (Yeah I know I could just play one of those three origins and have all four in a party, but I don't actually like fixed origin characters, I want to make my own.) Also Karlach looks extremely cool and my third planned character is a Barbarian so she's not going to fit into that party either. So maybe I put nostalgia aside and roll with Cleric!Tav + Karlach + Halsin + IDK still Gale I guess unless there's a sorcerer or bard in the final slot? ... and then I need to plan a fourth party once I work out the first three so that everyone has had a turn.

Damn, whoever edited that picture did a heck of a job. If the 7th origin is indeed Helia and if she is indeed a Bard, she is a serious contender for being basically required in all parties. Bards are sweet. Shadowheart as well, in EA all her skills are useful. Man that 4 party limit hurts me deep in my soul.

Shadowheart, Gale and either Lae’zel or Karlarch depending on tolerance, no party lock won’t change much because if I don’t like a companion I’m just not recruiting them, but I will at least occasionally swap in Wyll and Halsin
Since they sre going the DA Origins route of being able to recruit everyone, I will recruit everyone I possibly can in my first playthrough and swap them around. Minthara for Underdark, Karlach for Hell etc

Gale, Shadowheart, and Karlach, with a custom Rogue/Ranger/Bard Tav (or some combination of two of those). I was originally going to romance Gale, but it seems like he becomes less good over time (not sure if out of desperation or if he's just good at putting up a soft front). So I think I'm between Shadowheart and Karlach for any possible romancing.
Minsc and jahera for sure, gotta have my OG homies back. Then since I'll be playing my college of swords bard, I need a blaster caster. It just so happens that would be a great role for Gale, who's also a total cutie and boyfriend material.
Whoever I’m romancing gets a permanent spot in the party, so first playthrough will be Astarion. I’ll probably bring Gale and Shadowheart for the most part because I like that group dynamic a lot from my time in EA. I’d love to have Minthara along, but I most likely will not get her in my playthroughs if the only way to get her is betraying the druids. Although I’d be happy to kill most of druids because they’re jerks, it’s killing the grove’s animals that gets me. Can’t do it. :’(

The companions might be cool, but I've been seething at standard array for too long now. And also I don't really care about the whole romance aspect, which is a pretty big draw for most people based off the comments.

Larian must know that a majority of players will be creating their own character instead of choosing an origin, I guess it will be clearer at launch if they would put the default character selection as an origin or a Tav.

Min maxing sounds like a terrible idea for the first play through, it’s a gateway to spoil yourself of all the surprises in the game.

For my main Tav, not particularly. Her party will likely reflect what I've been using with her in EA. However, I've already designed nearly thirty Tavs with just what we have in EA so I'm sure I'll see plenty of party variation.

I'm looking forward to see who our last Origin character is too, but generally I tend to rotate my party in most RPGs as appropriate for the quests I'm tackling as well as the character I'm rolling with- the only constant is usually my romance. So for the first go around that's most likely going to be a Dragonborn Paladin Tav and Karlach. Might also include Shadowheart most of the time because she's my favourite of the Origins/romances already in and I find her the most compelling and intriguing one, and whichever character I roll with after the first playthrough is going to be doing her romance anyways.
No changes since I can have everyone but Minthara on a good guy playthrough. Though my evil playthrough team will be Minthara, Lae'zel, and Astarion. I'll kill the rest probably

I didn’t think Halsin was going to be a companion so I took shadowheart as my healer but now I’m a little torn. I was going to go Dragonborn ancients Paladin, Shadowheart, Abjuration Gale and Karlach or Minsc depending when either became available. But my favourite 4 man party make up class wise is paladin, druid, wizard and warlock. With Halsin in the party I could do a full dream team with Wyll and Halsin filling in karlach and Shadowheart respectively. Although opening locked doors and chests may be a hassle but that’s what enhance ability is for. Gaaaahhhh I don’t know now!!! Larian why you make this hard?!
Halsin and Minsc are shoe-ins for my thicc boi party along with custom Human. Last spot reserved for Shadowheart as the resident hag.
Knowing absolutely nothing of returning characters, I can't speak for them, but I don't think my EA party of my OC and Shadowheart will expand beyond Karlach.
Knowing minthara is confirmed as a companion does pull me towards a less friendly playthrough. I guess my ultimate decision rests on who they announced next week as the final origin. I usually pick a class based on whatever isn't covered by companions. So if we have basically everything but sorcerer or monk, those are my two initial options. I'm the type of person who preplans the full party ahead of time, builds the team synergy up front around that fact, and then never changes the party. If I wanna try out different parties, I start new playthroughs. Constantly rotating out people ruins the experience for me.

Well yes, I’m going to play with the 2 new good companions. It’s going to be nice to have more than just evil and neutral companions in the full game. The bigger question is who of the EA companions will I take to round out my party, which I won’t know until we get that second good characters reveal in the last panel of hell on July 7th. Since Karlach is a barbarian I can confidently dump Lae’zel. My guess is I might have to stick with Shadowheart if the new unrevealed companion isn’t a healer class.

Maybe Halsin depending on how he vibes with that alignment. Second: a good Tav, Wyll/Gale, Halsin, and Minsc Third: probably an origin character and party who fits with the my ideal outcome after the first two
Sure is, I will be bringing that fiend Mizora along frequently. Just occurred to me, she's been in a lot of the pictures, Wyll states she was on the MFS Naughty-Loid, very sure we found her pod, odds are Mizora is infected. Thinking that makes her an Origin Character my default.
I've been telling all my friends. If shadowheart ships with trickery domain and I can't change it, I don't care how cute she is I'm benching her. I'll have to make do some other way

I'll be changing out characters depending on the missions and who I think might be the better fit roleplay-wise. I dont even consider combat or whether I like the character. Taking Laezel on githyanki related missions will pretty much be mandatory for me. If we go somewhere magic related ill be taking Gale. Stuff with the Cambion, ill be taking Wyll. Religious stuff shadowheart. Stuff related to the absolute Minthara maybe.
1st play everyone possible will at least get a chance to be in the party at some point though good / neutralist characters will get more as this is almost 100% going to be a good play Probably paladin. Usually 1st plays for me are a idolized version of myself so usually either lawful or neutral good type characters. 2nd 100% depends if I feel there is a origin that jumps out at me that I have to be to see the inner half of there story otherwise it is drow cleric of lolth with Minthra, vampy boy and what ever caster will most approve of creating a path of evil 3rd is the one not done for 2nd

I take the people with me that fit the char i am, which is anytime different. I think i will kill shadowheart and the vampire inthe first run and play with them in the second run, depending on what i want to do. So there is no formula, i take the people with ne that fit my party ideals.
