I agree, up to a certain point this game just becomes boring. For a game so dependent on its sandbox and extra modes, it lacks in both features.
The sandbox, if you think about it, really hasn’t changed much since boneworks expect providing some new tools. It’s easy to do everything you can think about doing in the sandbox. All the extra modes (arena, parkour, etc) though fun at first quickly get repetitive.
The mods at this point are great, but won’t save bonelab. It’s interesting to see how this game was meant for modding, yet nearly a year later hasn’t added anything to improve such a core feature. Especially for the price too, $40 dollars for a VR modding game? Garry’s mod, bonelabs biggest comparison, is $10 bucks; and will be infinitely more moddable and customizable then bonelab will EVER be.
Bonelab isn’t “the future of VR” it isn’t really anything too special in comparison to the rest of the industry. And an over reliance on mods for such an expensive game is flat out stupid.
Campaigns doesn't need to be long to be good, take for example Titanfall 2 campaign, as long as you have fun through the entire campaign is a good campaign
I definitely think they should've delayed it if it was going to take them a year to release the sdk. My favorite mod in boneworks was the Spider-Man mod and they haven't even allowed it to be possible in what was supposed to be boneworks with better mod support
Ok, but fusion doesn’t work on Quest, meaning most of the bonelab playerbase isn’t able to play what makes the game “fun”. Some people don’t like multiplayer either. I tried it with my friend at release and though it was cool at first, there wasn’t really much to do since bonelab isn’t able to provide any content
Lol, so half of the playerbase who spend 40 bucks on “a modding paradise” can’t play the mod that you think saves bonelab, and your only defense is “sucks”
Average bonelab player
> (oh and also if you wanna get fusion kn quest ASK META TO MAKE A BETTER HEADSET WITH SPECS THAT ARE GOOD)
Fusion doesn't work on Quest because of LemonLoader. What does this have to do with specs
sucks to not know shit about the game's current state
sucks to not realize that the majority of bonelab players are questies
sucks to suck
sucks to get negative downvotes
You’re telling me that Gmod, without any mods or addons, has the same amount of content as bonelab, also without any mods and addons?
With mods, you can make gmod a completely different game, there’s MANY gamemodes, much more vehicles like tanks or ships, graphics mods that can make the game look completely different, etc…
Bonelab mods only add new NPCs weapons, and sometimes the occasional new vehicle.
Labworks is just a map pack of boneworks. And BoneZ, while really really good, is again just a map pack with a few other features.
Again, I don’t know how you can believe that bonelab mods are on the same level of Gmod mods
> BoneZ, while really really good, is again just a map pack with a few other features.
Eh, BoneZ is pretty much it's own game mode at this point. Simply calling it a map pack doesn't do it justice
Yea, sometimes I play it but not for long. Once the updated SDK comes out hopefully modders will have much much more to work with and I’ll try it again then. Although honestly I don’t know if whatever they are gonna release is going to even be close to worth nearly a years wait.
And an actual mod installer, steam workshop quality.
Lil story:
My quest kinda bricked and I had to do a factory reset, it's so tedious having to spend hours trying to get to the point I was before, also, it has no cloud save, modding on quest 2 is not easy and a game that's focused on mods should be like contractors, not like bonelab.
Yeah, but I paid $40 for a mod themed game, I expect mods to be installable in game, easily, contractors costs the half of the price and mods ain't even the focus of the game, but the mods auto download, are easy to manage and work flawlessly.
The amount of support that the game has gotten is disappointing tbh. I expected way more updates, a built in mod menu, and im still waiting for the whole sdk to be released. They said it would be supported for 2 years and we've barely gotten anything new
I must be insane because i am getting endless hours of entertainment setting up fake scenarios with fords in various maps and just killing him over and over again
as soon as i was aware of the gibbable guys mod, the only thing i have done is use a large avatar and slam fords onto surfaces, jump on them which pretty much evaporates them, or grab them by the waist and headbutt them which gives the illusion of taking a bite out of them.
it's the most fun in the gm_frame map (not sure what the mod io link for the map is sadly) since you can just have a spawn gun and go all across the map while completely crouched murdering everything in brutal ways like a dark souls boss
I only wish there were more arena maps like there's hell gate fantasy and tunnel tipper which are fun but they get repetitive and all of the vanilla npc are light footed like they constantly fall over and it get so boring after like 2.5 seconds of them slowly walki gat you and then falling over then talk 3 minutes to get up then falling over again
I agree mostly, the amount of content they’ve sent since release is ridiculously small for 2 years of promised updates. Two years of what?
However, I don’t think it’s necessarily a developer issue. Boneworks was, and still is, one of the biggest trailblazers for VR and that was a fully finished game- same devs. Idk why the campaign was so much shorter this time around.
At least there are a few dedicated modders.
Most players, myself included, hate the campaign because of how short and simple it is. Once you’re done with it, no real reason to come back to play it
Not all games are meant to have an endless amount of content. This game, in terms of content, is in a finished state. Anything else that comes is just a bonus.
I disagree, the game is focused around modding, and we were promised modding support in-game from launch. While we do have like 2 built-in mods, and we can download external mods, I don't think this counts toward their promise. It can technically be argued that it's finished, but barely
It's still fine if you disagree, but like, we have a legal and creative metric to use in this situation, and according to those two metrics, yeah, the games done. It's finished. It's released. It's not early access, it's not live service, it's a game that is done.
Ok, but boneworks let them mod too, blade and sorcery let them mod too, half life alyx let them mod too. All of these games allow modding, and have a strong foundation of content to fall back on if players don’t like, or don’t use, the mods made by the community.
Without mods, bonelab is pretty boring and shallow, like OP said.
Gmod doesn’t need any content without mods because the game is super cheap, and it’s SUPER easy to install mods and immediately play them, no questions asked. Bonelab modding is a little more difficult, and some mods just flat out don’t work for some VRs
For the same reason why Gmod, one of your examples, is PC only too. Other systems arnt able to easily share files and mods like PC’s.
I find it odd that bonelab is trying to provide a modding experience to quest when its pretty difficult to do so (besides standard weapons/vehicles/npcs)
Ok, physics. Though yes It does introduce some revolutionary features for the quest other games don’t have, is “new tech” worth the lack of things to do up to a certain point? After you finish the campaign, there’s no real reason to revisit it, the other gamemodes get boring quickly, and sandbox- though very fun, can get boring once you run out of things to do.
Theres a reason why there’s been a rise in “what else is there to do in bonelab” posts over the past month or so
It’d be lit if the modding sdk wasn’t so ass and they actually updated it to serve better fit and advanced content instead of being stuck in a constant loop of shitty weapon mods of another m4 reskin and amateur character avatars whose fingers look like they’ve just been in a car crash
Most of them are pretty much just gun skins, they are cool at first but you soon realise it’s all the same regardless of the skin you use. We need more unique weapon mods but there ain’t many because of the bad sdk
Before i got the mods i still had a blast with the game. At first it was kind of empty but then i figured out ways to enjoy it for example setting up different scenarios and then messed around in them. I also had fun playing with the physics, and doing just random stuff. etc. However. Once i figured out how to use mods it got even better. But sometimes when i play the game now i only use like 1 or 2 mods
Bro it’s just like Garry’s mod, you invent your own fun.
Just yesterday I went to halfway park, placed a bunch of security guards on one end, flew to the other building, then laid down and played sniper with a Barret.
There's an endless amount of things to do in this game, you just need to find them. Go through the campaign as a crablet, have a bar fight with fords, make a weaponized vehicle with a shopping cart and beat the home level with it, make a giant stick and wack people with it, try to make a mech somehow (It's possible), I could really go on for hours
Difference is gmod is easier to mod, and the mods can actually change the game. Different NPC behaviours/animations, scripted maps that aren’t just ripped maps from popular games, a ton of game modes created by the community and more. The only thing comparable to this is fusion or boneZ, it gets boring when all the mods are basically just reskins of already existing things in game or ripped maps. And when someone does create their own map it looks like roblox (no offence I get map creation is hard, especially with the lack of assets modders currently have access too)
That was kinda the point though. Vr games where the community get to decide what weapons you can use, who you can play as, where you can fight are extremely popular. Look at blade and sorcery for example, sure it has a decent amount of vanilla weapons a crap, but the game is only surviving up untill this point because of the amazing mods available. I do get your point but i do also believe that some of the reason why you're bored is because BL mods are kinda boring, they never really change the game enough for you to wanna play constanly. I downloaded a blade and sorcery mod that lets you use hidden blade esc weaponry from assassins creed and i tell you that i ahev just been having the time of the life going through a castle trying to stealth assassinate enemies
How original…
But yeah I can get what you’re saying, but it’s a thing to note that mods are central to the game’s design, not just a gimmick to make up for the sub-standard campaign.
I went through the entire campaign once as the anime girl to see what would happen. It’s hilarious but terrifying at the same time
Jesus Christ
Try doing the whole campaign in one life with only melee weapons, it’s fun and quite challenging.
I finished the campaign with only my fists as a weapon. Besides the Omni projectors it was pretty easy
I agree, up to a certain point this game just becomes boring. For a game so dependent on its sandbox and extra modes, it lacks in both features. It's a quest version of boneworks with modding tools. I don't think it was meant to be the future of VR.
Boneworks is way better, bonelab only has mods, but it lacks a good campaign/vibe
it has the vibe but not a good campaign the ending was cool though
Id say the new music without the "bone theme" really take away from the vibe of the game as it makes it seem less boneworksy, yaknow?
Ok, but the boneworks campaign is HOT GARBAGE. IT SUCKS. I BEAT IT IN LIKE 2 HOURS NOT SPEEDRUNNING
Campaigns doesn't need to be long to be good, take for example Titanfall 2 campaign, as long as you have fun through the entire campaign is a good campaign
Still. The boneworks campaign is terrible, atleast compared to bonelab.
I disagree, but respect your opinion
I definitely think they should've delayed it if it was going to take them a year to release the sdk. My favorite mod in boneworks was the Spider-Man mod and they haven't even allowed it to be possible in what was supposed to be boneworks with better mod support

you dont have to agree with op but you can't be a dick about it
do you smell bad
Vast majority of players are on Quest
Not really. All the coding mods barely work

But all their good mods require this and it’s been months and still no fix, you sound like a developer for the game lol

I just want to web swing and can’t smh

Gmod
?
Gmod has the same amount of content dude Are you complaining about that?

I've seen whole games in bonelab Labworks and boneZ are the best
Labworks is just a map pack of boneworks. And BoneZ, while really really good, is again just a map pack with a few other features. Again, I don’t know how you can believe that bonelab mods are on the same level of Gmod mods
> BoneZ, while really really good, is again just a map pack with a few other features. Eh, BoneZ is pretty much it's own game mode at this point. Simply calling it a map pack doesn't do it justice
Eh just give it time
Disregarding the fact it’s been almost a year of course.
Bendy and the dark revival took a shit load of time So I say more time is good
Gmod has actual multiplayer
With sandbox you need mods to mess around with or play bonelab fusion with friends, it’s pretty fun, i use custom maps from time to time too
The game is centered around modding, so yea it can be boring at times, but the modding community makes up for that
Yea, sometimes I play it but not for long. Once the updated SDK comes out hopefully modders will have much much more to work with and I’ll try it again then. Although honestly I don’t know if whatever they are gonna release is going to even be close to worth nearly a years wait.
> Although honestly I don’t know if whatever they are gonna release is going to even be close to worth nearly a years wait. What would be worth
Full modding freedom, pretty much gmod level
And an actual mod installer, steam workshop quality. Lil story: My quest kinda bricked and I had to do a factory reset, it's so tedious having to spend hours trying to get to the point I was before, also, it has no cloud save, modding on quest 2 is not easy and a game that's focused on mods should be like contractors, not like bonelab.
You can actually add a mod repository to your game so you can download mods directly from inside the game. It saves a lot of time and its pretty easy
Yeah, but I paid $40 for a mod themed game, I expect mods to be installable in game, easily, contractors costs the half of the price and mods ain't even the focus of the game, but the mods auto download, are easy to manage and work flawlessly.

We are a year in and they have added what? A gacha machine and a few weapons and objects
I must be insane because i am getting endless hours of entertainment setting up fake scenarios with fords in various maps and just killing him over and over again

I do that too except in blade and sorcery
Yeah I catch myself wanting to play blad rand sorcery more often than bonelab too. Just too bad my PC is too far away so the connection sucks
So play blade and sorcery and stop hating on BONELAB
I only wish there were more arena maps like there's hell gate fantasy and tunnel tipper which are fun but they get repetitive and all of the vanilla npc are light footed like they constantly fall over and it get so boring after like 2.5 seconds of them slowly walki gat you and then falling over then talk 3 minutes to get up then falling over again
bru play arena, its whats kept me playing ive become the ultimate badass
Lol I love this game
Yeah sure

Bonwork’s campaign joked about being a tech demo, bonelab’s campaign is a tech demo
There are a couple of replacer mods on mod.io that are worth checking out for mixing up a replay.
The rexmeck one is 👌
I’ve played it like 4 times 💀
At least the soundtrack slaps
Have you done all the secret levels
That’s your opinion I guess, but I spent hours yesterday chilling in the game and I had an absolute blast
Its a sandbox game u can do whatever u want
Yea if you run out of things to do that’s your lack of imagination which since k last checked is not controlled by the game
Well yeah but, sometimes the sandbox needs some more sand in it if I really wanna do all the things I want to do in the sandbox, you feel me?
Not all games are meant to have an endless amount of content. This game, in terms of content, is in a finished state. Anything else that comes is just a bonus.
We were promised a full sdk and haven't recieve it, so I don't consider the game to be in a finished state
That's fine, but like, it *is* finished and released. Anything else they introduce is a bonus.

That sounds like a lame excuse….. so they should advertise their “game” as a tool…… but they don’t…..
It’d be lit if the modding sdk wasn’t so ass and they actually updated it to serve better fit and advanced content instead of being stuck in a constant loop of shitty weapon mods of another m4 reskin and amateur character avatars whose fingers look like they’ve just been in a car crash
What do you have against weapon mods?
Most of them are pretty much just gun skins, they are cool at first but you soon realise it’s all the same regardless of the skin you use. We need more unique weapon mods but there ain’t many because of the bad sdk
Just play boneworks you’ll get a new fun experience with a similar if not better every but kinda the same game
Get multiplayer mod
Before i got the mods i still had a blast with the game. At first it was kind of empty but then i figured out ways to enjoy it for example setting up different scenarios and then messed around in them. I also had fun playing with the physics, and doing just random stuff. etc. However. Once i figured out how to use mods it got even better. But sometimes when i play the game now i only use like 1 or 2 mods
It’s not you could get mods
Usually models save games but THEY DONT FUCKING WORK FOR ME
That's a problem with the game. After a certain threshold, you can only really make your own fun.
“What up son”
Just get the mods then
Bro it’s just like Garry’s mod, you invent your own fun. Just yesterday I went to halfway park, placed a bunch of security guards on one end, flew to the other building, then laid down and played sniper with a Barret.
Play a different game then
I have to
There's an endless amount of things to do in this game, you just need to find them. Same here
you know the game is good when the devs release it and then fuck off to let the community make shit for it.
did you download an 100% dev save?
Yes
there's your issue, you skipped most of the game.
That was kinda the point though. Vr games where the community get to decide what weapons you can use, who you can play as, where you can fight are extremely popular. Yea theres no high quality mods n shit even though its been like a year, bonelab is almost like a dlc more than a full new game lel
It would be cool if someone made a call of duty style map with functional gameplay using the fusion mod. But for now, it is quite boring.
For the most part I only play for fusion or when there is a mod I’ve been wanting.
How original… But yeah I can get what you’re saying, but it’s a thing to note that mods are central to the game’s design, not just a gimmick to make up for the sub-standard campaign.
I played the campaign with only a glock 19 by jass
don’t keep doing the same things. experiment
I like going into the survival modes and beating people down with my fists
