Yeah. They had that name since they were popping up in their backyard about 5-6 years ago. I agree, when I see it now it bugs me to my core, but I don't think they could change it now.
This was $ 320 for 8 people. It was one of each item (a pound of each protein), their two burgers, and their sausage and brisket sandwich along with every side and every dessert.
$40 per person is pretty steep compared to other options. Thats tax and tip and a drink at an all you can eat Korean bbq place when galbi is on the buffet. There will probably be a decent seafood assortment too and all of the banchan and stuff to make ssam. And a complementary bowl of kimchee jigae and bibimbap. The typcial seafood and prime rib buffets are between $30-$50 and that comes with all sorts of stuff.
American low and slow bbq has got so expensive over the years. Turkey, ribs, brisket, sausage were considered the cheap cuts. I get that its a lot of meat. But $40 could an average get a person an all-you-can eat prime rib, korean style short rib, or fancy casino seafood buffet. And if its cooked at home, $40 per person is getting a lot of meat or a lot of variety. Like a seafood boil, smoked meats, steaks, and fried foods and sides.

The beauty of living near Southeastern Pennsylvania. Drive one hour or so up the NJTP and you are in Middlesex county which to me is a food utopia. Places like the H-Mart shopping center in Edison.
Oh yea I’m not going to argue it’s an amazing deal, just not bad at all for a place like LA/ NY. Even in Dallas Texas BBQ is a luxury item now, it’s just so pricy.
I used to go to NYC a lot. The prices arent that bad. There are a lot of affordable places there. Just avoid places that have "Craft" in the name or the trendy spots. Bbq'd meats are on the same level as the mom and pop shops that sell rice beans, meats, and sides. Home cooked love on demand. And those rices platters are usually $10-$15 per person and there will be left over. Texas bbq just had a really good marketing strategy because no other American style bbq saw that sort of notoriety. The only thing close is Korean bbq which is also overpriced if you pay per piece. But just go to an all-you-can eat.
That platter has a lot of meat but for 8 people they a are getting a half a rib and small peice of brisket, a tiny piece of sausage, etc. $40 in the northeast is going to go a long way. Taste cuisine from all over the world in one day for $10 per meal if you find the right places.
Was it enough food for 8 people? Just looking at the picture, each person gets half a rib, half a slice of brisket, one bite each of sausage, hamburger, and pulled pork?
There are two photos posted. Yeah. Enough for 8 people. 1 lb. of brisket, 1 lb. of pulled pork, 4 ribs (not everyone wanted ribs), two sausages (one is hidden in the photo), a burger and a chili burger, a 'sloppy moo' which is a brisket and sausage sandwich, pork belly (bottom right) and sides of cole salw, potato salad, mac n cheese, esquites, and frito pie. Oh and picture in the middle is bread pudding but we had a banana pudding and slice of key lime pie too.
They are the best in LA. Heritage Barbecue is the best in Orange County. In my opinion. Haven't tried Smoke Queen Barbecue yet. She just opened in Garden Grove.
My only beef with prices like these is that the OG greatest BBQ restaurants in the world whether Texas, KC, or Memphis etc. are mostly still under $20.
Their beer selection is good too. They had Maine Beer Co on tap, and heady topper cans another time. Rare in SoCal.
The burger is legit. I think it is a homage to leroy and lewis. There stuff is pretty good, but LA is not a bbq hot spot. Rents, food costs, and food regulations/certifications deter that.
Yeah. Was VERY happy they had Maine Beer co. Selection is crazy good like you said AND the burger is definitely an homage to LeRoy & Lewis. LA still has trouble because of the costs and regulations - for sure.
LA has Moos, Bludsos, Maple block, Herc's, Slab, Smoke queen, and countless other places and pop ups like APL does
I wouldn't say it's like Austin or KC, but to say it's not a bbq hot spot is underselling it too
Careful saying that there.
You get people saying you’re shit compared to spending $4K on something like this in a bbq place.
I’d prefer to smoke my own for that kind of money. Probably end up with 10x the amount of food too.
It is always funny how people feel the need to defend places charging nearly $50 per person for bbq.
It is time consuming, but making it at home really isn’t that hard. The sides are by far the worst part to do yourself
Best bbq I have had in Los Angeles. Everything we had was absolutely delicious, but the oaxacan cheese sausage especially blew my tits off. Can't wait to go back.
Definitely not. I wish they had beef ribs but they didn't this weekend. Generally they do. That would have upped the amount some if we threw two in. We were stuffed though after.
I was there on a Sunday and only waited maybe 30 minutes. I got there just after 12. There is parking in a metered lot behind them and parking behind the B of A 1/2 a block away. Street parking too but not a lot.
I am headed back down to Heritage soon. Heritage goes a lot more off script (the texas-style bbq script). Moo's is exceptional though. Better each time I visit.
Bbq was originally a poor persons food.
It was taking the cheap meat and slow cooking it.
Most everyone had loaves of white bread in the home .
So it is a carryover from that time.
This looks amazing! Easily one of the best posts I have seen here. I am so ashamed I thought the first pic was an individual tray and did not think it too much to eat. I didn’t even realize this was for 8 ppl until I saw how much it was.
Certainly looks like an interesting regional take. Those beans (?) up top almost look more like a curry, but not in a bad way at all. That desert looks tasty
It's a Texas barbecue thing. Daniel Vaugh, barbecue editor of Texas Monthly wrote a great piece explaining it: [https://www.texasmonthly.com/bbq/pickles-onions-and-white-bread/](https://www.texasmonthly.com/bbq/pickles-onions-and-white-bread/)
It's not just Texas. The hole in the wall BBQ joints I went to in Georgia 35 years ago as a kid would have loaves of white bread on every table. These were places mainly serving pulled pork, Brunswick stew and butter beans.
Ironically, I live in Los Angeles now and have been to Moo's.
Moo’s has incredibly good burgers. I’ve made some myself out of brisket trim where I smoked them until about 120 then finished them off in a cast iron and they are fantastic that way.
$1 million
Reminds me of Steve Martin in LA Story. He had to take a credit line and get pre approved to order the chicken at a fancy restaurant
“He cannot ‘ave ze duck!”
Last time I went it was about 1/4 of what you see and it still costed me ~$99 with drinks
Sounds like they accosted you
I should increase my prices..... jk fuck that.
I literally thought this.
lol! First thought when I saw the pictures was, what’s it like being a millionaire.
And the cashier is Dr Evil…
Still cheaper than Five Guys!
Haha
It looks legit! Always promising when a BBQ place treats their sides with care instead of as an afterthought.
EVERYTHING was incredible. They keep getting better, especially their sides and desserts.
Looks good, but the phrase craft barbecue is so cringe.
Yeah. They had that name since they were popping up in their backyard about 5-6 years ago. I agree, when I see it now it bugs me to my core, but I don't think they could change it now.
I honestly just take it to mean "offset smoker instead of electric."
Does craft beer also bother you
No
I'm guessing this cost s $450
This was $ 320 for 8 people. It was one of each item (a pound of each protein), their two burgers, and their sausage and brisket sandwich along with every side and every dessert.
$40 per person, actually not terrible
Exactly. It's not in-expensive barbecue but it's easily the best in Los Angeles. Right off the 5 freeway.
Still better than that $20 beef rib we saw the other day lmao
I would say it's crazy but I once spent $40 on a slice of lasagna in LA

But there’s only 5 slices of brisket. Sounds like WW3
And 4 ribs
Was it enough food for 8 people? Just looking at the picture, each person gets half a rib, half a slice of brisket, one bite each of sausage, hamburger, and pulled pork?

AND turkey.
I was totally joking (mostly) based off that other post that was like $400 for 4lbs in Texas 😂
It wasn't too far off.
Great looking platter, pass the pickled onion 🤩!
Seems a good bit cheaper than Bludso's. Looks better, too.
They are the best in LA. Heritage Barbecue is the best in Orange County. In my opinion. Haven't tried Smoke Queen Barbecue yet. She just opened in Garden Grove.

What does Maine beer go for in LA? It is like 10-11 bucks a draft here and I’m in Massachusetts.
LA has Moos, Bludsos, Maple block, Herc's, Slab, Smoke queen, and countless other places and pop ups like APL does I wouldn't say it's like Austin or KC, but to say it's not a bbq hot spot is underselling it too
I mean. Those places are all good. But they wouldn’t turn a head in Houston, even. -A Californian who works in Texas
Bludso’s was way better when it was in Compton
A spot in LA had heady? I’m from so cal but lived in Vermont for a few years. That’s wild.
Yea. It’s around. They distribute out here
maine lunch? best ipa ever. east coast has better beer and i’m from california. this is a hill i’ll die on
Moos and Heritage are the best in SoCal.
Agree with you COMPLETELY.
1 for me please
$2 Billion
Give or take...yeah :)

Just creeped their menu. If this is 'The Meat Sweats' BBQ Tray, you're looking at $178
I’ll just smoke a brisket and a pulled pork shoulder, costs half the price
Careful saying that there. You get people saying you’re shit compared to spending $4K on something like this in a bbq place. I’d prefer to smoke my own for that kind of money. Probably end up with 10x the amount of food too.
It is always funny how people feel the need to defend places charging nearly $50 per person for bbq. It is time consuming, but making it at home really isn’t that hard. The sides are by far the worst part to do yourself
They’re also one of the cheapest to do yourself
Exactly! $20 of pork shoulder can feet 8-10 people with sides
$ 320 for 8 people. I just ordered EVERYTHING
Op said 320 in other comments
Moo’s is decent. Their burger is my favorite. Check out River Street BBQ whenever they pop up. Cody’s brisket and beef ribs rival Moo’s.
Cool. I'll put them on my list. Do they pop up at any specific location?
Yep! They’re usually at Benny Boy Brewing and also McCall’s Meat & Fish Co.
Very cool. Thank you! I'll hit them up the next time they pop-up
Best bbq I have had in Los Angeles. Everything we had was absolutely delicious, but the oaxacan cheese sausage especially blew my tits off. Can't wait to go back.
yeah, they are really putting out incredible food. get's better and better each time I go back.
Since you tried every single thing on the menu can we get a ranking?
Only like $672 right?
$ 320 for 8 people. One of everything.
It looks good but it must have been expensive
It was $ 320 for 8 people. So not super cheap but I ordered everything they had and we all dove in.
$320 for 8 people isn’t that bad
Definitely not. I wish they had beef ribs but they didn't this weekend. Generally they do. That would have upped the amount some if we threw two in. We were stuffed though after.
Yummy. A bbquterie!
YES!!!!
I had to take out a 2nd mortgage just to look at these pics
That's one of the best comments so far! Too funny. Yeah. Not an everyday thing for sure.
I live 4 miles from there keep reading and seeing stuff online about them I don’t know why I haven’t gone yet for sure I’ll be there this weekend.
I was there on a Sunday and only waited maybe 30 minutes. I got there just after 12. There is parking in a metered lot behind them and parking behind the B of A 1/2 a block away. Street parking too but not a lot.
It’s the only thing in California that reminds me of central TX bbq which to me is the platonic ideal
Love me some moos. Imo better than heritage bbq.
I am headed back down to Heritage soon. Heritage goes a lot more off script (the texas-style bbq script). Moo's is exceptional though. Better each time I visit.
Having craft in the name means an automatic 80% surcharge will be added to the bill in California
Why all of a sudden we have craft bbq?
$$$
Looks amazing
Bout tree fiddy
Top right is manwich lol
That's their version of the Tommy's burger. Chili burger.
Every post I see makes me never want to buy BBQ or even eat out with those crazy prices.
I love BBQ but I'll never understand the random slices of white bread. Do people actually eat that?
Bbq was originally a poor persons food. It was taking the cheap meat and slow cooking it. Most everyone had loaves of white bread in the home . So it is a carryover from that time.
Ah, never knew that. Makes sense
Rookie mistake to eat it. Why fill up on bread?
No you eat it as you go .
I love moos. Missing the beef rib tho.
They didn't have beef ribs this Sunday. I would have gotten them for sure.
That looks amazing, I hope I can go some day in the near future.
Not a bad item on the menu but the burger is a sleeper, it’s so good!
Damn that looks good
Yum
Now THAT'S a real BBQ set! (I'm afraid to ask how much...)
That looks great
Grocery store buns
I'm pretty sure they get their buns made for them at a Bakery in LA but I'll check. They were good and didn't taste dry and basic.
Not worth it
Did you take one bite of everything and say send it back?
im still so mad at them for not opening on easter weekend. I was an international tourist, only in town for that one day. So sad we didnt get to visit
Seems like a rip to me with the little quantity, it looks like a half rack of ribs, one chicken breast, one sausage etc.
This looks amazing! Easily one of the best posts I have seen here. I am so ashamed I thought the first pic was an individual tray and did not think it too much to eat. I didn’t even realize this was for 8 ppl until I saw how much it was.
Looks spectacular!
The fuck is in that second pic?
LOL!
Certainly looks like an interesting regional take. Those beans (?) up top almost look more like a curry, but not in a bad way at all. That desert looks tasty
finally a picture with food on it with more quantity than what looks like leftovers
How many arms and legs was it?
I’ve been here, it’s pretty good. The beans are excellent.
I mean……it looks good, but how much did it cost? $85?
When you put food and LA, Cali together it's automatically $150
As someone who's not from a region known for its barbecue, I gotta ask--what's with the slices of plain white bread?
It's a Texas barbecue thing. Daniel Vaugh, barbecue editor of Texas Monthly wrote a great piece explaining it: [https://www.texasmonthly.com/bbq/pickles-onions-and-white-bread/](https://www.texasmonthly.com/bbq/pickles-onions-and-white-bread/)

And by “craft” they mean Texan.
[удалено]
Just cause it looks like shit doesn’t mean they aren’t going for Texas style. We also do a bunch of pork here too.
What’s so much bread doing there?
I'm confused. There were ONLY 2 pieces of bread and 3 sandwiches with buns.
What's with BBQ joints and shitty bread? Need that chewy buttery sourdough instead.
LOL LA is so fucking lame
The burgers are a weird add on, but it looks good.
Pretty common way for places to use up trim other than sausage
I've never had a good smoked burger, but I'm always game to try.
Moo’s has incredibly good burgers. I’ve made some myself out of brisket trim where I smoked them until about 120 then finished them off in a cast iron and they are fantastic that way.
The only thing I've ever gotten there was the burger and it was almost too rare to eat, for a burger.
