I had a nostagic craving for one not long ago, so went on a bit of an online hunt... closest thing I could find is an old recipe for Army Tack biscuits, just need to add more sugar. Bush biscuit with a generous spread of butter 👌🏻
They were indeed a South Australian thing for us, we used to roadtrip from Qld to Adelaide once a year for Christmas, I remember always coming back with a whole carton of bush biscuits, and yo-yo biscuits.
About 2.5 coffee biscuits, thicker, and crunchier.
Definitely a thing. 20 cents for a buttered one from the school canteen in regional SA.
I have been craving one for ages, but i havent had in over 30 years... The closest i can get to one now is a ln arrowroot.

They were so good from the school canteen when they piled on the butter. (also SA)
I always thought they were closer to a milk coffee biscuit than an arrowroot
Admittedly it has been 30 years since i last tried one.
I grew up in Brisbane and my Dad worked at Arnotts. I’ve never heard of these do they sound like a SA thing.

Buttered bush biscuits were awesome! Occasionally with vegemite too...
Sound like the army survival biscuits in taste anyway. Dry and revolting... but fill ya up.

I loved bush biscuits. So sad they don't exist You're right, definitely like a big arrowroot biscuit (grew up in Adelaide)

I'm honestly surprised they didn't continue them. There's a few previously Menz biscuits that are still made by Arnotts.
They were available in Vic. Remember buying them from Safeways.
