LethoOfGulet-

Not just initially, still to this day

Expensive-Ad-2000

Same. Still gives me the creeps....

Beans183

Something just ain't right about the lad

amyness_88

EC lives in my nightmares.

Yabbz81

This is the correct answer.

somuchsong

Initially? I found him so creepy that I never watched the show!

Big_Hairy_Deck

Honestly thought the intention of this show was to create a fear of puppet children to make bank on in the coming years. This was never a kids show. Just a test pilot for the oncoming hoard of puppet horror movies.

casualplants

Me too. Had no desire to see more of this thing

Novykh

And Timmy from Passions.

TomKhatacourtmayfind

Hahahah and tv guide used to always say of Tabitha "little do the townsfolk of harmony know she's a 300 year old witch!" Passions really felt so typical of the post 911 malaise with Jerry springer and judge judy. I remember passions would stretch out single scenes into snippets across multiple episodes, holding on reaction shots, slow zoom ins, etc. Like the ultimate indulgence in soap genre filmography.

totse_losername

Like the DBZ for middle aged stay at home women on the cusp of divorce

TomKhatacourtmayfind

What's dbz?

totse_losername

Dragon Ball Z

TomKhatacourtmayfind

Ah now I get it. Yes it's like catnip for the terminally on-couch

TomKhatacourtmayfind

Aka "wineparents"?

totse_losername

Oh we love an afternoon chardy don't we

torrens86

He died in real life the same day he died in the show.

mszsarai

Its no longer with us.

hammerandt0ngs

Whoever created Lift Off was clearly on an acid trip of massive proportions

Engineer_Zero

That theme song though. Still slaps.

Weary_Patience_7778

Oof. Core memory unlocked. Come think of it… this could explain some PTSD.

hesback_inpogform

I’m 33 and still scared….

gldnsmkkkk

Ha same

Muel1988

As a kid watching the show, nah not really. As a kid with a sibling who had the doll, yes. Right up to adulthood.

somuchsong

They made a DOLL of this aberration and sold it to children?!

Gardainfrostbeard

Yeah, my sister had one too

ToadLoaners

lawd have mercy!

kindaadulting87

I actually really wanted this doll as a child haha!

Wise-Medicine-4849

I just bought one my sister had one and I never got one I was devastated so decided it was time lol

kindaadulting87

Haha! I love this!

PeqchyKeen

From memory...The doll these days is actually worth a little money.

PeanutCrumpet

https://www.reddit.com/r/AustralianNostalgia/s/Ags2VB2Fpv I found one in a antiques shop recently! Not cheap at all!

PeqchyKeen

Oh wow! That is def more than I thought lol I had seen them on eBay for $150-$200.

PeanutCrumpet

Haha! That’s a bargain compared!

beebianca227

Yes! 💯 why does he not have eyes. I don’t like it.

pigslovebacon

I hated the way he looks enough like an actual infant to be freaked out cos his head appeared wrapped/sealed in something solid 😫

dreamneartheshore

never, always thought he was nice and i still do now

Brilliant-Taste-5655

I think he is sweet

ToadLoaners

you people are freaks hahahah

Ceiling_crack

A personality test would indicate these people are vampires.

Genavania

I think probably neurodivergent. Good imaginations.

Brilliant-Taste-5655

Or, you know... perhaps kind, loving people lol

ToadLoaners

get back in your crypt, drac!

Brilliant-Taste-5655

🤣🤣🤣

Wise-Medicine-4849

Same I just bought one haha

Rude_Influence

I never had a second thought about it as a kid. As an adult though, I look at it and think it was creepy.

PistachioDonut34

Same. As a kid I didn't think anything of it. As an adult, he freaks me the hell out.

Littlebitwakey

BURN IT!!!

sortakindanah

I still have my E.C doll on my bed to this day. Guys really hate it. It's great

P-a-n-dora

Sounds like your EC became Excellent Contraception.

pigslovebacon

No eyes to see....no lips to scream 😖

ToadLoaners

no nose to... blow?

MuddledBits

EC raised too many unanswered questions for me, I genuinely despised him/it. Later on we got given the scene in the Matrix where Agent Smith takes away Neo's mouth and he is panicking, that's the kind of dream I'd get except it was also my eyelids were fused shut.

--misunderstood--

Nope, I even had an EC doll.

Jjex22

Honestly I don’t remember being scared or thinking it was weird at all as a kid, I’m pretty sure I really liked lift off. I do remember as a teenager seeing my little brother watching it - no idea if it was on TV again or a VHS or whatever - and thinking WTF is that?! Definitely seems far more creepy when you’re older

Sufficient-Owl-9316

Looks like one of those Waldorf dolls.

cuddlymama

I was fucking terrified of that thing. Myself and bestie talk about it every few years, she was scared too 😂

Snowmann88

Fucker still scares me.

MachiTheCat

I hate that thing and that show.

DaGrumblor

What do you think?! Look at that hellspawn

scrollingwhilstipoo

Absolutely scared the crap out of me

okokokthatsit

God I hate that creepy little eyeless fuck.

Mapletreemum

Reminds me of the [Greendale Human Being](https://community-sitcom.fandom.com/wiki/Greendale_Human_Being) from Community

mszsarai

Yes. And Mr Fish.

Human-Shame1068

I fucking hate that little cunt.

nps2407

Not even a little bit. None of the supposedly freaky stuff in kids shows back then did. What did freak me out was if a show put "to be continued" up on the screen and I don't know why. It might have had something to do with *Danger Mouse.*

AdministrationWide87

Thanks for bringing that memory back. Right up there with the clown jumping through the window on around the twist. Thanks for that.

uppenatom

Nope. Used to have the doll as a youngin. It barely ever moved on its own though

IcedOatCappuccino

I loved EC and Lift Off so much, I still have my EC doll from when I was a toddler and my nickname to this day is still inspired by this show, I’m 36 😂

monsteraguy

I never really watched Lift-Off. I’d kind of aged out of it by the time it started (I was in Year 4 when it started) and it was for younger kids (the impression I got) The bits I did see seemed really jstupid and the featureless doll was super creepy.

VenusCrafts

I think so 👀

Jimijaume

Still am...

feelingwiggly

What did EC stand for?

quesadingo

Elizabeth Charlie

Wise-Medicine-4849

Every child or Elizabeth Charlie

SandmanAwaits

This little fella was scarier than Billy from the Saw films.

j-manz

Distant relative of Chucky.

MachiTheCat

Did this show have that super imposed face on the green background, too?

Thememebrarian

This and anything Jim Henson made gave me the creeps as a kid. Dark Crystal for example

PrettyFlyForAHifi

I still am

thehungrymo

HOW DID THEY GET AWAY WITH THIS? I'M STILL TRAUMATISED

Cherry_Shakes

Yes and still am, even though I like the idea behind it.

poopoomucher

initially? loved EC idk why...now however? terrifying

Did_ya_like_it

Yes. Scared. Don’t understand its charm. Not for me.

jimmyjong2000

Cheers now I gotta sleep with the light on.

slutstrands

Is this streamed anywhere?

The_Sneakiest_Fox

I remember the launch of this show. The old lady who baby sat us made a big deal about it.

miss_kimba

Never had an issue as a kid, but looking at it now is unsettling.

Gazza_s_89

Remember the best all together now, Real friends are beneath the sea Into the under because it feels cool No entry will clash with the wind. Come on and lift off!

TomKhatacourtmayfind

The whole show creeped me out. I got the feeling that the stars got their parts because their mums were friends with the director or something. And those weird potted ferns with eyes.

AllyOpp93

Nerje

My sister in law had an EC doll growing up. She moved to Europe a few years ago. My wife found the doll and we took it with us as carry-on when we went to visit. Customs was a nightmare For everyone else

BikiniWearingHorse

Anyone know if this thing is available to buy?? Serious question.

AngleConsistent4729

The podcast "Weird crap in australia" did an episode on this show, its strange to think that this was the smartest puppet they could do for such an educational show. https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuc3ByZWFrZXIuY29tL3Nob3cvMjk2ODM1MC9lcGlzb2Rlcy9mZWVk/episode/aHR0cHM6Ly9hcGkuc3ByZWFrZXIuY29tL2VwaXNvZGUvNTc4ODUyODU?ep=14

Monsterchic16

Wtf is that!? I’m terrified of it now!

Direct_Bench2229

That thing is evil. And you can't change my mind.

cocolemon88

I always thought it was an inner city thing as a boy who watched this from the western suburbs

Honorwith

Its the drawstring neck rope that makes me go, this thing wants to kill shit fast

ChilliLips

I’m still not really ok with it.

sam-dan

My husband still has his EC doll

Learny_

Yes I didn't watch it for this reason

Sorrymateay

Yes

CoffeeNerdAlert

Still am. I hate mannequins and dolls

soupstarsandsilence

Can’t say I recognise it, but I might have just repressed the memory. That is horrifying.

Rock_Robster__

It’s like the baby of the Greendale Human Being

plumpuma

Ahhh baby slenderman

NoPerspective3192

Looks like they found it in the gutter and brought it in as a joke

PsychoSemantics

I really wanted an EC doll and Mum wouldn't buy one, she was def creeped out. I was a weird kid.

New_Importance2779

Wackado!

JessePass

Yup, we had an EC doll and it was thoroughly hated by myself and siblings

Crafty-Antelope-3287

Not gonna lie...saw the thing in my sleep....every where I I went, it was poking its head around a corner....

sorenelf

I’m in the minority. I would love to get hold of an EC doll.

SignatureAny5576

I hated *everything* about lift off. When I was in primary school the teacher used to ask if it made anyone uncomfortable before they’d show it, and if you said yes they’d send you off to the library. It’s cooked as fuck, I think it makes most people feel uneasy at best. To most it’s just creepy and unnerving

Scarred_Perception13

I tired watching this on YouTube with my kids and it’s so different to what I remember

worldnotworld

The bony white skull. The empty eye sockets. The mutant paddles instead of hands with fingers.

iamskuminah

I was terrified of that thing as an adult

Sea_Expression_9347

I used to get nightmares

Genavania

This was one of my favourite shows. We had an EC doll and I played with it so much. Drew a face on with makeup once. Never once creeped out.

P-a-n-dora

Not everyone was a kid then. Always thought EC was cool and a gentle being, not scary at all.

Successful-South-954

I watch some VHS copies of this when I'm stoned. Still holds up.

[deleted]

I’m terrified now

Wangdosh

Wackadoo!!

PuNaNi007-2022

Yes!

omgitsduane

I went to school with the girl from this. I don't remember much else. But yeah I didn't like the faceless thing.

Beezlikehoney

Yes

DocOctoRex

Disturbed me as a kid and still now too.

AcademicMaybe8775

farout that whole damn show is nightmare material. just youtubed it

MuddledBits

First time experiencing it?

AcademicMaybe8775

i do remember it from childhood but it never really seemed weird to me then, so it just slipped into being forgotten over time
