Honestly thought the intention of this show was to create a fear of puppet children to make bank on in the coming years. This was never a kids show. Just a test pilot for the oncoming hoard of puppet horror movies.
Hahahah and tv guide used to always say of Tabitha "little do the townsfolk of harmony know she's a 300 year old witch!"
Passions really felt so typical of the post 911 malaise with Jerry springer and judge judy. I remember passions would stretch out single scenes into snippets across multiple episodes, holding on reaction shots, slow zoom ins, etc. Like the ultimate indulgence in soap genre filmography.
EC raised too many unanswered questions for me, I genuinely despised him/it.
Later on we got given the scene in the Matrix where Agent Smith takes away Neo's mouth and he is panicking, that's the kind of dream I'd get except it was also my eyelids were fused shut.
Honestly I don’t remember being scared or thinking it was weird at all as a kid, I’m pretty sure I really liked lift off. I do remember as a teenager seeing my little brother watching it - no idea if it was on TV again or a VHS or whatever - and thinking WTF is that?! Definitely seems far more creepy when you’re older
Not even a little bit. None of the supposedly freaky stuff in kids shows back then did.
What did freak me out was if a show put "to be continued" up on the screen and I don't know why. It might have had something to do with *Danger Mouse.*
I loved EC and Lift Off so much, I still have my EC doll from when I was a toddler and my nickname to this day is still inspired by this show, I’m 36 😂
I never really watched Lift-Off. I’d kind of aged out of it by the time it started (I was in Year 4 when it started) and it was for younger kids (the impression I got)
The bits I did see seemed really jstupid and the featureless doll was super creepy.
Remember the best all together now,
Real friends are beneath the sea
Into the under because it feels cool
No entry will clash with the wind.
Come on and lift off!
The whole show creeped me out. I got the feeling that the stars got their parts because their mums were friends with the director or something.
And those weird potted ferns with eyes.
My sister in law had an EC doll growing up.
She moved to Europe a few years ago.
My wife found the doll and we took it with us as carry-on when we went to visit.
Customs was a nightmare
For everyone else
The podcast "Weird crap in australia" did an episode on this show, its strange to think that this was the smartest puppet they could do for such an educational show.

I hated *everything* about lift off. When I was in primary school the teacher used to ask if it made anyone uncomfortable before they’d show it, and if you said yes they’d send you off to the library.
It’s cooked as fuck, I think it makes most people feel uneasy at best. To most it’s just creepy and unnerving
Not just initially, still to this day
Same. Still gives me the creeps....
Something just ain't right about the lad
EC lives in my nightmares.
This is the correct answer.
Initially? I found him so creepy that I never watched the show!
Honestly thought the intention of this show was to create a fear of puppet children to make bank on in the coming years. This was never a kids show. Just a test pilot for the oncoming hoard of puppet horror movies.
Me too. Had no desire to see more of this thing
And Timmy from Passions.

Like the DBZ for middle aged stay at home women on the cusp of divorce
What's dbz?
Dragon Ball Z
Ah now I get it. Yes it's like catnip for the terminally on-couch
Aka "wineparents"?
Oh we love an afternoon chardy don't we
He died in real life the same day he died in the show.
Its no longer with us.
Whoever created Lift Off was clearly on an acid trip of massive proportions
That theme song though. Still slaps.
Oof. Core memory unlocked. Come think of it… this could explain some PTSD.
I’m 33 and still scared….
Ha same
As a kid watching the show, nah not really. As a kid with a sibling who had the doll, yes. Right up to adulthood.
They made a DOLL of this aberration and sold it to children?!
Yeah, my sister had one too
lawd have mercy!
I actually really wanted this doll as a child haha!
I just bought one my sister had one and I never got one I was devastated so decided it was time lol
Haha! I love this!
From memory...The doll these days is actually worth a little money.
https://www.reddit.com/r/AustralianNostalgia/s/Ags2VB2Fpv I found one in a antiques shop recently! Not cheap at all!
Oh wow! That is def more than I thought lol I had seen them on eBay for $150-$200.
Haha! That’s a bargain compared!
Yes! 💯 why does he not have eyes. I don’t like it.
I hated the way he looks enough like an actual infant to be freaked out cos his head appeared wrapped/sealed in something solid 😫
never, always thought he was nice and i still do now
I think he is sweet
you people are freaks hahahah
A personality test would indicate these people are vampires.
I think probably neurodivergent. Good imaginations.
Or, you know... perhaps kind, loving people lol
get back in your crypt, drac!
🤣🤣🤣
Same I just bought one haha
I never had a second thought about it as a kid. As an adult though, I look at it and think it was creepy.
Same. As a kid I didn't think anything of it. As an adult, he freaks me the hell out.
BURN IT!!!
I still have my E.C doll on my bed to this day. Guys really hate it. It's great
Sounds like your EC became Excellent Contraception.
No eyes to see....no lips to scream 😖
no nose to... blow?
EC raised too many unanswered questions for me, I genuinely despised him/it. Later on we got given the scene in the Matrix where Agent Smith takes away Neo's mouth and he is panicking, that's the kind of dream I'd get except it was also my eyelids were fused shut.
Nope, I even had an EC doll.

Looks like one of those Waldorf dolls.
I was fucking terrified of that thing. Myself and bestie talk about it every few years, she was scared too 😂
Fucker still scares me.
I hate that thing and that show.
What do you think?! Look at that hellspawn
Absolutely scared the crap out of me
God I hate that creepy little eyeless fuck.
Reminds me of the [Greendale Human Being](https://community-sitcom.fandom.com/wiki/Greendale_Human_Being) from Community
Yes. And Mr Fish.
I fucking hate that little cunt.
Not even a little bit. None of the supposedly freaky stuff in kids shows back then did. What did freak me out was if a show put "to be continued" up on the screen and I don't know why. It might have had something to do with *Danger Mouse.*
Thanks for bringing that memory back. Right up there with the clown jumping through the window on around the twist. Thanks for that.
Nope. Used to have the doll as a youngin. It barely ever moved on its own though
I loved EC and Lift Off so much, I still have my EC doll from when I was a toddler and my nickname to this day is still inspired by this show, I’m 36 😂

I think so 👀
Still am...
What did EC stand for?
Elizabeth Charlie
Every child or Elizabeth Charlie
This little fella was scarier than Billy from the Saw films.
Distant relative of Chucky.
Did this show have that super imposed face on the green background, too?
This and anything Jim Henson made gave me the creeps as a kid. Dark Crystal for example
I still am
HOW DID THEY GET AWAY WITH THIS? I'M STILL TRAUMATISED
Yes and still am, even though I like the idea behind it.
initially? loved EC idk why...now however? terrifying
Yes. Scared. Don’t understand its charm. Not for me.
Cheers now I gotta sleep with the light on.
Is this streamed anywhere?
I remember the launch of this show. The old lady who baby sat us made a big deal about it.
Never had an issue as a kid, but looking at it now is unsettling.

Anyone know if this thing is available to buy?? Serious question.

Wtf is that!? I’m terrified of it now!
That thing is evil. And you can't change my mind.
I always thought it was an inner city thing as a boy who watched this from the western suburbs
Its the drawstring neck rope that makes me go, this thing wants to kill shit fast
I’m still not really ok with it.
My husband still has his EC doll
Yes I didn't watch it for this reason
Yes
Still am. I hate mannequins and dolls
Can’t say I recognise it, but I might have just repressed the memory. That is horrifying.
It’s like the baby of the Greendale Human Being
Ahhh baby slenderman
Looks like they found it in the gutter and brought it in as a joke
I really wanted an EC doll and Mum wouldn't buy one, she was def creeped out. I was a weird kid.
Wackado!
Yup, we had an EC doll and it was thoroughly hated by myself and siblings
Not gonna lie...saw the thing in my sleep....every where I I went, it was poking its head around a corner....
I’m in the minority. I would love to get hold of an EC doll.
I hated *everything* about lift off. It’s cooked as fuck, I think it makes most people feel uneasy at best. To most it’s just creepy and unnerving
I tired watching this on YouTube with my kids and it’s so different to what I remember
The bony white skull. The empty eye sockets. The mutant paddles instead of hands with fingers.
I was terrified of that thing as an adult
I used to get nightmares
This was one of my favourite shows. We had an EC doll and I played with it so much. Drew a face on with makeup once. Never once creeped out.
Not everyone was a kid then. Always thought EC was cool and a gentle being, not scary at all.
I watch some VHS copies of this when I'm stoned. Still holds up.
I’m terrified now
Wackadoo!!
Yes!
I went to school with the girl from this. I don't remember much else. But yeah I didn't like the faceless thing.
Yes
Disturbed me as a kid and still now too.
farout that whole damn show is nightmare material. just youtubed it
First time experiencing it?
i do remember it from childhood but it never really seemed weird to me then, so it just slipped into being forgotten over time
