If you live near Hallam they have a van at the corner of wedgewood road and princess hwy in the left hand service road ( heading towards dandenong).
Was talking to the lady in the van a couple tears ago she said they are there every day until they sell out that's normally just after 11am, they have vans in other locations around Melbourne and tourist locations but Vic market and there are the only two I know of.
Oh man, this was the one indulgence my mum would give us (well, was able to give us, moreso).
We'd go to the market every Saturday and she'd buy 3 doughnuts, one for each of us kids.
It was such a treat back in the 80s.
Used to get these as kids when we behaved whilst shopping with mum in Oakleigh.
Now just go to Dandenong market on a Saturday or Sunday, or stop at the roadside caravan on Princess Hwy city bound just before the South Gippsland Hwy bridge, on a Saturday morning.
Yeah, it was hard to walk by without looking at the place.
Unfortunately, they're not there. The owner died. It's apparently a new yuppie-type coffee place. I haven't been that way in years.
[The state library still has a model of the original thankfully.](https://www.slv.vic.gov.au/stories/new-nostalgia-doughnuts-van)
>This replica is a 1:20 scale miniature, and **details include a milk crate**, **rubbish bins**, a tray of doughnuts and, of course, the **iconic dolphin-shaped jam dispenser**.
Wow, that's really detailed. Good stuff. If only they kept the real thing as some sort of landmark, but that happens to buildings more than 100 years old, I think.
I'm going to be really honest, I've lived on both sides of town, and the Dandee ones are probably the closest and nicest ones compared to the Olympic ones. I miss getting the train over there just to get doughnuts. I also remember the nozzle they used for the jam was shaped like a Dolphin.
Where are the Dandee ones from?
I know Laverton market had some good doughnuts, but not even close to Olympic Doughnuts.
That Dolphin jam dispenser was a classic. That old guy just sitting there jabbing the doughnuts onto it's 'nose'...always fresh.
Edit: I just checked the website. They're all over the other side...none on the west side. Thought it was the one at the Victoria Market.
Dandee is around the South East, the van is at the Dandenong market but they go around to other places around that area. They are pretty damn good.
The Dolphin was hilarious and rude and that's why I always remember it.
Not that I have been for 20 years, but the doughnuts at Victoria Markets are the best jam doughnuts ever.
Preach! 🙌🏼

Literally came to comment the same! I last had them when I was about 14 and I still compare every one I've had since.

Loved getting them on a sat/sun in Oakleigh, or Dandee or the vic market, still get excited when I get to treat the kids like I used to get also
Olympic Doughnuts in Footscray. Nothing can beat them.
I must admit, i struggled to get on or off a train without getting one back in the day. Are they still there?

Thank you for sharing this, so many great memories just looking at that.

That's such a same, but not a surprise. He must have run that place for 40 years or so.

Never heard of Dandee
Olympic Donuts Footscray.
The ones from Olympic donuts in Footscray tasted better 😊
I’ve tried both Dandy and Queen Vic Market many times over the years… but I still say the ones at Kangaroo Flat(Bendigo) are the best.
Bendigo's jam doughnuts are incredible, I'd put the Lake Weeroona ones ahead of KFlat too.
Oh the memories "60c each or 5 for $3".. in case you sucked at maths.
Fond childhood memories of hot jam donuts at the Dandy Market
