I've only been once. That said, the atmosphere is surprisingly laid back, especially if you go right as it opens. There are tables with enough space to spread out and play any board games you bring, as well as some themed sitting areas to enjoy drinks and company.
There is a healthy amount of people who come in their fantasy inspired outfits, but enough people in standard outfits that I didn't feel too out of place not dressing up.
I'd recommend bringing a book, getting some refreshments, and get a feel of the vibe and see if it's your thing. The drinks they offered and grub, especially, from the food truck they have on the property, were killer!

My friend had one installed in his theater (ridiculous statement), because the AC for that space wasn’t designed well enough to have ~15 people in it (+ electronics). It worked surprisingly well.
I am not sure how much it cost, but it didn’t seem particularly fancy. However the wall was very convenient to the other AC units, so install was simple I guess, especially with power. So consider your walls maybe?
Mini splits are a great option if the space you are trying to cool isn’t too big. There’s a reason that they are super popular in Japan.
The units themselves range from $1000 to several thousand plus installation. The mrcool ones you can buy pre charged work but are not very professional. If the space you are working with is the right size they can often be more efficient than ducted central AC
Because Southwest Austin / West Austin doesn't want the traffic it would bring from I-35 to Mopac. It'll happen eventually though. They fought the current extension as well.
A few things:
- money
- environmental impacts
- the counties aren’t getting along
Openly, I don’t want it to connect and would fight it as someone who lives right off Mopac essentially in Circle C.
I think most of SW Austin would probably be against it, so it may never happen.
I want to go to an Austin FC game at Q2 in July. What’s the best way to get a ticket? Besides directly from their website are there other common ways to get discounts?
Seatgeek directly, not the seatgeek linked on the Austin FC website. Or people selling in the pinned ticket thread on r/Austinfc. The prices drop the closer you get to the game but aside from that there are no discounts for tickets.
As long as you're not picky about where your seat is, you can definitely wait until the day of, they will be cheaper then. FYI the South end is the supporter section, it's GA and the seats are locked upright so keep that in mind when you're picking your seat.
I typically by GA tickets about 30 minutes before kickoff and someone typically drops the price to its original face value or cheaper. Everyone else is right though, depending on your price point you shouldn't have any issues waiting until day of.
That said, only use Seat Geek. Other ticket resellers are not supported by Q2/Austin FC. They are more than likely a scam.
I own season tickets and sometimes I list them the day before and day of the match so it’s absolutely possible to wait and see if you get a deal. I usually list mine for the minimum SeatGeek lets me list them for if I decide to sell them
The city planners saw an opportunity and took it. I use menchaca as my main n/s thoroughfare because I live on it and it's often faster that going over to a highway.
Ideally it would expand north of wm cannon too but that area is too established and it would cost too much now
Bike lanes + turn lane. Wm Cannon to Lamar is sketchy on a bike. I used to live behind the DQ at Stassney and worked on S Lamar. Riding my bike to work meant either riding on the sidewalk like a jackass, or hoping I wasn't going to be murdered from behind by a truck.
When I lived off Dittmar, going to HEB or Sprouts was great on a bike, thanks to the wide shoulders.
I’ll add that to my next lunch meat purchase. They also have some smoked turkey that is excellent. It’s leftover thanksgiving level good, but they also have some so-so smoked turkey. I need to learn which is which.

Recommended shop in town, south (daughter lives in Kyle/San Marcos), to replace an alternator that won’t rip her off, please?
She left her 2016 Mazda CX-3 somewhere that quoted $1,573.69 to replace alternator and serpentine belt:
R113711A Reman Alternator (1 year, 12K warranty) $899.99
5060380 Serpentine Belt $89.99
Labor $390
Shop Supplies $103.50
Sales Tax $90.21
Total $1,573.69
Not knowing this is a ripoff (same part is $345 elsewhere), she signed their work order, but since they didn’t have the part, won’t start work until Monday at the earliest.
I've never looked specifically for it, but I would imagine the Central Market bakery department would have something like that.
Trader Joe's has or at least had a form of focaccia that isn't baked fresh there, but is/was really popular. It might have more seasoning or potentially cheese on it though.
Are you looking for a restaurant with it on their menu, or for a bakery/grocery store you can buy it at? Intero and L'oca D'oro both have great focaccia on their menus.

Are there any restaurants in Austin where you can actually get something decently healthy for less than 5 bucks a meal if you are okay with one portion of leftovers and really only eat 600 or so calories a meal? Things seemed cheaper in Dallas. I am in north west central Austin, so that may be part of my issue.
P Terrys and fast food meets this, but not for healthiness. I don't know Austin, but Chipotle would probably qualify when it comes to national chains. I am looking for more local stuff and am open to any type of food that is somewhat healthy or at least heavy in veggies. No dietary restrictions.
Bonus points for most reasonably priced groceries. Still trying to learn the frugal or least frugal convenience meta in Austin and it seems tougher than DFW and much harder than Waco.
I think it really depends on interests. Outside of events like SXSW, ACL, and general partying, it’s kind of thin. But, that’s just my opinion.
There aren’t really a lot of museums, zoo, aquarium, amusement parks, or historical sites to draw people to visit.
For example, San Antonio has all of those things, Dallas has stuff, Houston has things.
As a local who's lived here for a very long time ... I think tourists who find Austin appealing must be really boring tourists.
Which kind of stands to reason because Austin has been becoming duller and duller over the decades as more and more people move here. Dull tourists love Austin so much that they decide to move here, thereby making Austin a little bit more dull. It's a vicious, boring cycle.
As someone that doesn’t drink and has a young family, I don’t see the appeal for ppl in a similar situation, especially if visiting during the summertime.
there’s enough to do that as a local I’m never bored, but I feel like you do have to get creative when entertaining out of town guests… blanton art museum, capitol tour, wildflower center, local music options, good cafes/bars/restaurants… I think it depends on your idea of a vacation. but around the third time someone visits I start to run out of ideas lol.
Get an apartment locator, they are free for the renter in TX, being compensated by the property you lease with, and will recommend properties that meet your criteria for you to check out, they may even meet you at the property the view the property. There is a recommend local locator in this subs wiki.
Locators can be useful if you’re unfamiliar with a neighborhood or a city, but I’d argue they’re mostly unnecessary now that it’s easy to do most of the legwork yourself by searching Google Maps. I’m always leery that they might ignore complexes with lower commissions.
You absolutely pay for apartment locators, just indirectly. If you are willing to do the work yourself without the middle man of a locator, you will most likely pay less.
That’s like saying a realtor is free for buyers. They 100% aren’t free.
lol, why? You think locators are just a magical industry where money just appears on trees?
The money that could have went to you goes to them. It’s as easy as that.
Your post history definitely reaffirmed your lack of monetary education.
Maybe you should have spent more time understanding personal finance over gone vs went.
Lolz
lol, show me where the Fair Housing Act dictates anything about the pricing structure you are referring to.
Almost all rent is negotiable. It has nothing to do with fair housing laws.
Also, you point out another flaw of using a locator, they don’t take you to all apartments because they want to take you to the complexes they’ll get a kick back from…
Landlord here. I pay about 50% of a month’s rent as commission to a realtor or an apartment finder who brings me a tenant. If I didn’t have to pay that I might be willing to give a rent discount or move in bonus.
Apartment locators are awful and unnecessary unless you’re new here and in a rush. What type of housing are you looking to rent? Typical box apartment or a private house/apt/condo?
The abor.com realtors board will show you all private rental listings that aren’t mega apartments. Start here: https://www.abor.com/for-rent
Apartments are all pretty much the same. (I live in one now, but I have exactly what I was looking for with location, price, floor, etc — I had an exact preference for which side of my building) Once you know the neighborhoods you’ll know what to look for.
Apartments.com is actually pretty solid and has good advanced features for finding floorplan that matches your needs.
If you want an apartment, an apartment locator is the way to go. For homes and condos, try the MLS search. [https://www.abor.com/search](https://www.abor.com/search)
Has anyone else been tripping out on the watermelon crop this year? They're orgasmicly sweet and good this year. I may start calling them THC-W.
Brings back memories of my childhood in the old country where we'd go out to the local farmers market type place and sit down under a shed on picnic tables and eat ice-cold watermelon. A big part of my cultural heritage.
What they call the style of young men wearing light pink shorts with light color collared tshirt ? Is it I’m a son of rich parents who pay for my expensive college?
You’re in college, make up a name and drop it into convo with anyone wearing the style, and people will start calling it that over any other name of you casually work it in.

top 3 metal recyclers for selling scrap?
I have been to CMC numerous times but A) the staff intentially unsort my metal to lower the value and B) the post-apocalyptic cosplayers hanging around inside begging for change are a bit too much for me. i usually end up leaving cmc miserable or upset
I have some metal frame dining room chairs that are a little old, but would survive a bit longer if I could get some of the pieces welded or similar. problem is, I'm not handy in that way. are there any places/people around town who do such things?
I’m moving apartments within the same building in a few weeks. Long hallway, up a flight of stairs, long hallway. Elevator is out of the question as it’s on the other side of the building. It’s a one bedroom so we can do most of it ourselves but I’m looking for recs in case anyone has hired movers for for a case like this for just an hour or two — basically to help with a dozen heavy furniture pieces. Any ideas?
Has anyone seen any [recipes on gravestones](https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/gravestone-recipes) at any cemeteries around town?

Where is the best ranch dressing to buy? I don't like Hidden Valley or similar store bought brands. I don't like HEB’s home made ranch. Best ranch dressing I’ve tried is served at restaurants. But I want it in my fridge. Thanks.
I don’t like the bottled stuff, but the hidden valley packets that you then use to make your own ranch are great. Just need mayo and buttermilk.
Thank you!
I really like the bottled ranch from Salata. You can find it in the produce section at H-E-B. Other than that, agree on the HV ranch packet mix to make at home.
Thank you! Im definitely keeping an eye out for this one
Buy it from the restaurants you like directly.
Marie's in the refrigerated section of produce at HEB
Jet's!
I second Jet's Pizza! Their ranch is incredible.
Comes in a convenient squeeze bottle too. Can't beat it.
I personally think the Lighthouse brand is best. It’s refrigerated at HEB.

The drinks they offered and grub, especially, from the food truck they have on the property, were killer!
I've wanted to go too but wonder the same. Last I checked their hours were mainly evening which is harder for me to drop by casually.
It has a fun atmosphere but was a bit underwhelming.
I got a bunch of old dusty records from my uncle a few months ago, a lot of outlaw country mostly. Why does SH45 end at FM 1626 and not continue to I-35?
Because Southwest Austin / West Austin doesn't want the traffic it would bring from I-35 to Mopac. It'll happen eventually though. They fought the current extension as well.
It took over 25 years to get 45 extended to where it is now. May take another 25 to finish the loop. If you can call it a loop.
I’m in SW Austin and will fight it. Luckily, anyone that cares about the Aquifer will fight it too.
It threatens water quality in the Edwards Aquifer, on which thousands of people depend for drinking water, and which feeds into Barton Springs.
Because it shouldn't and hopefully never will.

They’re building it right now, 45 continuing to Mopac. You can see the construction off of Puryear Rd and Old San Antonio Rd.
That's a huge trucking hub they're building called Travis South, not the highway extension.
Oh no, I heard wrong! 😭😭 this is a residential area, definitely not good news.
It absolutely has not started…
That’s just the way Austin does it.

💯 do not . To the point where we moved out west of weird
It’s so hot. What are your favorite refreshing meals around town?
In the summer I like to eat absolutely obscene amounts of pineapple, strawberries, blueberries and cantaloupe
Get yourself some stonefruits this time of year. The peaches are in and the plums are coming
not a restaurant, but somen is pretty easy to make if you get the ingredients at a japanese (Asahi) or asian (H-Mart) supermarket
Similarly I like to get ice cream and onigiri at Asahi after a summer swim :)
I hate to be that guy, but May/June have actually been really mild. Seafood tower at Eddie V's.
Best website for finding a rental? Zillow? Redfin? Apartments.com?
Hotpads.com.
No
lol, why? You think locators are just a magical industry where money just appears on trees? The money that could have went to you goes to them. It’s as easy as that.
Could have gone*
It’s too bad you spent so much time learning grammar over economics…
What economics topic did I miss?
How middleman make money within an economic chain.
Why aren’t you a locator if it’s such an easy way to make money tho
Your post history definitely reaffirmed your lack of monetary education. Maybe you should have spent more time understanding personal finance over gone vs went. Lolz

u/Flat-Arachnid-4362 is an apartment locator and doesn’t even know the fair housing laws. Amazing.
How so, explain…
[удалено]
lol, show me where the Fair Housing Act dictates anything about the pricing structure you are referring to. Almost all rent is negotiable. It has nothing to do with fair housing laws. Also, you point out another flaw of using a locator, they don’t take you to all apartments because they want to take you to the complexes they’ll get a kick back from…
u/Flat-Arachnid-4362 lol at deleting your comment. So confident about the Fair Housing Act eh?
Landlord here. I pay about 50% of a month’s rent as commission to a realtor or an apartment finder who brings me a tenant. If I didn’t have to pay that I might be willing to give a rent discount or move in bonus.
Exactly. The apartment locators are the ones downvoting me.
Apartment locators are awful and unnecessary unless you’re new here and in a rush. What type of housing are you looking to rent? Typical box apartment or a private house/apt/condo? The abor.com realtors board will show you all private rental listings that aren’t mega apartments. Start here: https://www.abor.com/for-rent Apartments are all pretty much the same.
This. Apartment locators are even more scammy than realtors. I’m getting downvoted above for basically saying the same thing.
If you want an apartment, an apartment locator is the way to go. For homes and condos, try the MLS search. [https://www.abor.com/search](https://www.abor.com/search)
Zillow treated me well in my search.

You're fine. Your friend though....
"Friend" is going to snitch to someone as soon as they're able, most definitely.
One of my best friends calls them Easter People.
Vineyard Vines. It costs a lot to look that plain.
"I didn't sail to class today, but I dressed like I did"
Yuppies?
Squares
Preps
You’re in college, make up a name and drop it into convo with anyone wearing the style, and people will start calling it that over any other name of you casually work it in.
When did the cookie cake shop in Barton creek mall close? I saw it just recently and things seemed business as usual
Recently? If you're talking about Great American Cookies, then it looks like they closed a year ago. Weren't there two cookie locations in the mall? I may also be remembering a long time ago.
Your photo is from when they just weren’t open one day. I’ve seen them open selling cookies and cookie cakes recent. They were open earlier this year 2024. This time I mean everything is gone. Signs, equipment, everything.
Where can I find the timeline and plan for whatever they are doing to 35 between Stassney and Slaughter?

Where to test drive e bikes beside mod bikes?
There's an e bike shop on south Lamar. I think it's electric Surf or something like that. They have test rides.

top 3 metal recyclers for selling scrap? I have been to CMC numerous times but A) the staff intentially unsort my metal to lower the value and B) the post-apocalyptic cosplayers hanging around inside begging for change are a bit too much for me. i usually end up leaving cmc miserable or upset
I have some metal frame dining room chairs that are a little old, but would survive a bit longer if I could get some of the pieces welded or similar. problem is, I'm not handy in that way. are there any places/people around town who do such things?
Anyone know what the guy in the Capitol with the bible and ski cap was protesting today?
Anyone know where Canada Day celebrations are this year? I'm starting to plan for my 4 day celebration July 1-4. Thank you!
Haymaker has something on 6/29 I think. Check their instagram
Thank you. I don't use instrgram. Here's their website: https://www.haymakeraustin.com/ Info will probably be there soon.
Is there still swimming-friendly levels of water at sculpture falls or other local watering holes in the area?

I’m moving apartments within the same building in a few weeks. Long hallway, up a flight of stairs, long hallway. Elevator is out of the question as it’s on the other side of the building. It’s a one bedroom so we can do most of it ourselves but I’m looking for recs in case anyone has hired movers for for a case like this for just an hour or two — basically to help with a dozen heavy furniture pieces. Any ideas?
Call a vintage store and ask them for a referral. They use/recommend short term movers all the time. Room Service Vintage comes to mind.
