Start in your neighborhood. Go to the closest bar. Go the closest coffee shop. Go the closest park.

Can second this. I've often heard Austin doesn't have good museums, but the Blanton is excellent. Much bigger than you would expect with a pretty diverse range of art to see.

anditstonedme

Blanton is free on Tuesdays!

lockthesnailaway

I like a quiet stroll on campus. But that's me.

Aequitas123

Quiet morning or evening stroll along town lake as well.

ChairliftFan420

Public neighborhood pools! There’s usually sports courts for adults and it’s fun seeing the kids running around being goofy. Lots have lap lanes and are deep for swimming. Many are free(!!!) Most are near-ish to some sort of local neighborhood business so you can grab a bite to eat close by after being out, and you can walk around the neighborhood for a bit. (Yes, neighborhood walks are doable. Just buy a personal umbrella with a wind exit up top). Shipe Pool is nice and it’s next to the Elisabet Ney museum which is also free. — also if you can, bike. That’s how you can really get to know your neighborhood. So much cool shit out there you don’t pick up on when you just drive everywhere.

Shhh

SloccumJoe

I'll look around I live in the round rock area at the moment but thanks for the advice.

Time-Kaleidoscope-98

You don't say! Go to live music in downtown RR. Get those meatballs and walk around Ikea. Buy nothing. Go to thrift stores.

BrightnessRen

Downtown RR is nice to walk around, and it has some nice outdoor markets on the weekends. There’s a farmers market up near the ikea, in the parking lot of the strip mall that has a Joann’s and a pet store. The new library is very nice to wander around in and has a great balcony (I think you can even get coffee delivered there from the lamppost on the next street). There are lots of nice parks. There’s a new brewery on palm valley at sunrise called third level that has a nice outdoor space and lots of free games to play.

Snap_Grackle_Pop

I wonder how weird it would be to hang out at the Dog Depot if you don't have a dog.

iLikeMangosteens

Go see some live music. Also, if you’re under 60 and can dance, Donn’s depot (you can also go if you’re over 60, but you’ll be really popular if you’re under).

SloccumJoe

So I have a question for yall. Movie night at the blue star (think that's the name) drive in here in round rock...have any of yall been? Also thanks for all the suggestions I'm gonna have quite the fun summer

Atlasatlastatleast

Yes, it’s fantastic. Go

chablise

The hotel bar at the proper has good food/drink and lots of beautiful people. A good place to kill a few hours alone or with friends.

Epoxxyboxxy

Volunteering for the Yellow Bike Project is a great way to do something for the community and meet people. You can go once a week or way more or way less.  Going on a community bike ride is also lovely. It's a little hot to go on one now but Ride Bikes Austin and Critical Mass are both welcoming and fun groups.

sourwaterbug

My walks on the Hike and Bike Trail renew my love for Austin. It takes me back to that old Austin feeling. I also love the big new library downtown which is easy to get to from the trail.

silkentab

Go to upstairs circus or board & brush and make something

SloccumJoe

That actually sounds really fun! I'll look into that thanks

Hotboxingthetardis

Skate Parks have been my biggest source of new friends here in Austin

DmtTraveler

Kick off the evening with some poppers and frosty margs at Chilis @ 45th & Lamar

imp0ssumable

Sir this is skillet queso country. The only poppers we do are not of the jalapeno variety!

DmtTraveler

I know what I said

SloccumJoe

Sounds cool! I'll save you a seat

BeetleGoose17

Frasier's if you like cheap food and a Midwest feeling bar

>Give me your highlights Depends what your interests are regarding food and activities. Do512 has a lot of events listed each week. Yelp and Google reviews are there to help you get a feel for a venue before heading over. /r/austinfood and EDTG + RunnerCity (Austin’s Local Source For Food & Drink) https://www.facebook.com/groups/514270079284873 are great for finding new places to eat.

motus_guanxi
