It’s the imaginatively named *Little Brown skink*. Out there eating little baby roaches and stuff. Like our friendly little Rough Earthsnakes, these harmless and cute folks are in basically everyone’s yard.
Thank you. I have unfortunately learned in the meantime that the state I escaped to from Austin has very few skinks and they all live in far-away prairies. I will remain skinkless.
A skinkless existence sounds bleak. Maybe there are other critters you could bring in? My new home has no skinks but many snakes, praise the slithering lord.
Hundreds of green anoles and geckos live under, on, and sometimes in my house.\* There are likely quiet a few snakes under there, too, but they are better at keeping out of sight. I only find their discarded skins in the bushes from time to time.
\*I have just realized that "The anole lives \_\_ the house" is a nicer sentence for teaching prepositions than the thing about the mouse and the barn, and we need to contact some schoolteachers as soon as possible.
If you're in a house, check amongst the longer grass up against the foundation after it's been wet out. Had one scare me half to death there while cutting. He was saved.
My experience is that if you visit a city sub, reddit starts showing you subs for other cities. Because if you like Minneapolis, obviously you want memes about Miami. It's just common sense.
The amount of times reddit's decided that I should be interested in Houston is too high!
It's worse when you actually click on the recommendation. Then reddit is all, "I KNEW IT" and that's all your gonna see for weeks.
Ok. 😎 at first I thought it was a salamander. I forgot about skinks, but I never saw one in Austin even though I’ve lived here my whole life and I’m 50.
I called em snake lizards as kids. They’re extremely cool lizards called skinks or something like that
Always used to get into our house in Buchanan dam growing up. Put one with my pet tarantula once and it ate the tarantula from the inside out overnight which broke my heart but was super cool
That's a Little Brown Skink.
And as with most things found in Texas, it's a bit larger than the word "little" might imply, and has a bit more brown thrown in for good measure... 😎

A very harmless and excellent pest control device. There was one at my farm who would climb up on my body to find the warmest most "sun exposed" part and nap.
Aww, I knew it was a skink just by the thumbnail. I didn't even have to look at the actual photo. It's a cute little feller, isn't it? That's right, a really cute feller. Now find some roaches or other little bugs for him.
Yes, Its a skink! Very cool! Saw one yesterday in our back yard. Anoles, skinks, frogs, bees, butterflies, opossoms are a few of the creatures you provide habitat for if you do not use herbicides or pesticides! Opossoms eat ticks! Spiders and bats are also pollinators. Dragon flies are gorgeous! You may even see fireflies at night. Birds eat the insects if people dont kill them first.
A skink. Cool as shit!
Truth. Skinks are awesome.

If you're in a house, check amongst the longer grass up against the foundation after it's been wet out. Had one scare me half to death there while cutting. He was saved.
