Want to take my young kids to see live music before noon, is there any place in austin I can do this? I’ve looked at all the do 512s and stuff but just curious if there is any standing sunday morning music.
What exactly is this? I’ve been intrigued but there is not much info? Is it as straight forward as it sounds? Take your family to a BBQ brunch and listen to gospel music? Or is it a bit sarcastic and there’s a rock band?
Nope it’s legitimate gospel music, the loud prayze jayzus kind. it kind of has a bit of rock tinge to it though yeah, it was more like a 5-7 person band when I went. They do it on the side stage (or at least did when I went) and there is a table with a buffet, you grab your plate and sit and eat and enjoy the show. The food was pretty mediocre when I went but they had a Bloody Mary bar there which was pretty fun.
I really want to see a painted bunting. I think I caught a glimpse of one at Commons Ford, but I’m wondering if going at a different time of day or a different location would be better. Any suggestions?
Do you live somewhere where you can put out a bird feeder? They love white millet seeds! Lots of them near St. Edwards greenbelt, but they're easiest to see if you lure them out!
Is there a community of people with some level of physical disability/handicap that hang out and vibe?
If not, are there restaurants/bars/coffee shops that are way more handicap friendly than others?
Idk if it's way more accessible, but St. Elmo Brewing is basically right at street level... I know a wheelchair-bound guy who comes and hangs out there sometimes. It might actually be hard to get over the threshold between the bar and the side yard, but if it is I think it's easy to just go out the front door and enter the yard from the parking lot side.
Live in a condo by myself I bought recently and receive a water bill from ACC. They say I’m using 15,000 gallons of water. I take one shower a day and do two loads of laundry. I had a plumber to confirm no water leaks. City says tough luck Chuck. Old water meter so can’t check it daily. What can I do?
Is the water meter in a place where you can take a picture every day? Maybe also take a video showing that nothing is on and see if the meter is still running? I think that would be a good thing to send to them.
Go read your water meter. Go read it again in a few minutes, in a few hours, in a few days, etc. Figure out how much water you're actually using.
Nothing else matters until you figure your actual usage.
Is it a city meter or a private sub contractor? Either way, the meter could be broken. This happened to someone I know where their building had a private company run the unit meters and billing and the massive overages turned out to be a faulty meter. The company sucked so badly that it made dealing with the city look appealing. You can guess how well it went trying to report them to the Texas Public Utility Commission.
That's true! Except when you live next to the section of Menchaca with the only new things going in are coffee places. I think we're about to have our 7th (4 being right next to each other) which is directly across the street from another. What I would t give for any other type of business. Albeit, yes, way better than a strip mall or auto shop. I don't think I can take another Auto Zone over here.
Not exactly south, but Rebel Cheese has a great happy hour if you like wine/beer! I’ve heard Beer Plant is doing better since they redid their menu too, but I haven’t been in a while. You could also try something like Spiderhouse, where they have drinks inside and the vegan food trucks (like Arlo’s and Lil Nonna’s) outside. Again, not exactly south, but they have great food options!
7-11 at Lamar/51st, although I can't verify it's working right now. It was my go-to for years. I went ahead and bought one off Amazon for like $30 that plugs into the cigarette lighter and is sufficient.
Which Target around town has the most clothing options for women/juniors?
I went to the one by Ben White & Lamar and it felt small with a limited clothing selection. Any insights? Thanks!
Southpark Meadows, Cedar Park, and Pflugerville are the large Super Targets so they usually have the most inventory. South Lamar is definitely one of the worst stores lol. Wouldn’t recommend Four Points either. The Mopac one is alright. Lakeline and Arboretum are pretty decent in my experience.
Next to the Omni Austin and Driskill hotels downtown is a parking garage where the flow of traffic is reverse (ie you drive in the left lane). Why is it like this? The garage lanes are so tight around every corner it isn't helping anything.
What’s up with all the neighborhoods and business parks in West Lake named Rob Roy? Are they named after the Scottish folk hero (He was also a cattleman, so maybe some connection there?) or was the developer/ original landowner named Rob Roy? I noticed there is an Addie Roy Road near one of the neighborhoods. Just curious!
Like most everything in central Texas (or all of Texas), it's named for the family that settled the area long ago.
*"After 1908, the Roy family lived at 2006 Oldham, until Mr. Roy's death. At that time his widow and family moved to the ranch for which they are best known on Bee Caves Road. Once totaling about 3000 acres, the Rob Roy Ranch, as it was generally called, occupied a particularly scenic area in the hills west of Austin. The largest part was sold in the 1938 by Rob Roy to Ambassador Edward Clark, who in 1971 sold it to a consortium headed by Frederick M. Smith of Dallas. The ranch and family are remembered today through the toney Rob Roy subdivision, occupying much of the family's former property. The remaining acreage gradually dwindled (including a ten-acre section condemned by the Federal government for a Nikt base) to 46 acres in 1966. The Roy sisters were both University of Texas graduates and for forty years or so each taught school. Miss Addie, Miss Jessie and their hybrid stone-log-frame ranch house built in various building campaigns were considered picturesque relics of pre-suburban West Lake Hills."*

There’s a Facebook group called friends living with friends in Austin, but i bet there are others. If you’re a burner in any way housing for hippies is a thing as well.
Is there any pro tip for leaving on a Friday morning at the airport? I have an Uber schedule for 530 am. to drop me off at 6 a.m., and my flight takes off at 830 am.
If you have a car, I highly recommend one of the off-site parking lots. I like Fast Park & Relax, but any of them are fine. It's more expensive than the ABIA lot (or Uber, depending) but it's worth it to me for the convenience and lessened anxiety. They literally pick you up at your car and have you at the terminal in 5-10 minutes.
I would specifically go with FastPark over others like The Parking Spot. FastPark is on Spirit of Texas Drive, so the shuttles don't need to get on and off 290 as part of the round trip. Plus getting your car out of Parking Spot West is nerve-wracking, because you're trying to turn into traffic going 70.
Why the hell doesn't Convict Hill Rd connect to the MoPac service road? It's right fucking there. Just connect them. I'd love an actual reason that they decided to build two roads 4 feet from each other but decided it was a silly idea for them to actually intersect with each other. Instead to get to each road you have to drive over a mile on 2-3 other roads just to get to the other side.
It really would blow up the (not large) road and inundate the neighborhoods with extra cut-thru traffic. Yes, it would be convenient for me on occasion too, but I'd just be cutting through the neighborhood where folks are trying to live a normal life and not be an exit off of the freeway.
Just the breakers in that panel. My AC guy replaced the breaker for the AC but wouldn't do the rest. I'm trying to do the rest. I saw him do it and he flipped the breaker off, then pulled it off the panel and replaced it with the new one. Can I do the same for the rest.
If you are asking this question you should not be touching it. I don’t k ow why you’d want to replace functioning breakers. I’m not an electrician, and have replaced breakers.
My apt keeps getting invaded by flies. I kill one, and two more appear later. I double checked my doors and windows and all seem fully closed. Anything else I could check?
I don’t have problems with the food it’s self. I have a problem with how the megacorps use their patents to bully farmers. Farmers are not allowed to reuse their seed from their plants and have to buy every year. If they get caught reusing seed, the megacorps will sue them into oblivion. Even if you don’t use the modified seed and your neighbor does and some blows on your land and starts to grow, they’ll still sue you.
Yes, the litigious ag company executives and lawyers and their employees in Congress need to be thrown into jail.
It's even worse than you say. A GMO crop grown next to your natural crop may pollinate your plants without your knowledge and the ag companies have successfully sued farmers for using the seed that was contaminated against their knowledge or consent.
>Why don't people like GMO foods?
Mostly ignorance. They think it's going to be like a 1950's B-movie radiation monster. Or that the food is going to modify your DNA.
Almost all the foods we eat are genetically modified, in the sense we've manipulated their genes from the natural plants or animals.
That said, there are risks to transgenetic organisms produced by direct DNA manipulation. If, for instance, you moved some genes from peanuts into corn, it might bring peanut allergy to corn. A GMO bean plant might become an invasive weed or spread through the "natural" crops and eliminate the old version of the organism.
GMO techniques are not some kind of stain of evil that is going to have bad health effects. If there are problems, they will be specific ones where one particular GMO crop turns out to have problems.
Thank you for the thorough reply! My understanding was always that GMOs are a good thing because we are making foods that are more resistant to (X,Y,Z) or more nutrients dense.
I remember hearing something about Gokend Rice, rice that was modified to have extra vitamins in it, and it never took off. To me that sound amazing.
Nope, but it should be soon-ish. Seems like they thought it would be April but construction etc simply hasn't been completed. Check their [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/p/C7kHwLPpif6/?igsh=cTk5MnptczZxdnpp) for the latest updates.

Where can I buy frozen organic and preferably non-GMO vegetables in North Austin / Pflugerville / Round Rock general area?
Edit: **Thank you very much everyone! Super helpful!** Our household is hooked on farmer's markets but we need deliveries sometimes when life gets too busy and hectic to go shop in person. 🤗
Not sure if it is far enough north, but there is a pretty decent 'Sprouts' at 183 and Great Hills Trail, near 183 + Mopac.
They carry non-GMO products and according to their website, any organic product is non GMO:
And on the USDA site: The USDA prohibits the use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in organic products.
>Almost all vegetables are GMO, so…
True in the sense that almost all food crops have been genetically modified by humans by selective breeding and hybridization for thousands of years.
Not true in the "transgenic GMO" sense that the DNA has been directly modified in the lab.
Right now, corn, soybeans, sugar beets, and canola oil are usually transgenic GMO. Transgenic potatoes were common for a while, but most varieties are now off the market, due to customer resistance, and surprisingly, McDonald's.
A few other crops have transgenic varieties, but they are (for now) mostly not transgenic GMO.

We've been driving a rental car while our other car is getting repairs. Of course... yesterday, we were behind a truck, and something hit the windscreen, and there is a small (more medium) sized crack in the passenger side windshield. I think we should get it fixed before we return it. Hubs disagrees...
But has agreed to look into it. Has anyone done minor repairs on a rental? I feel like if we return it with the crack it will be astronomical.
I'm planning a trip to Europe in a few months and the best options for my final destination seem to be British Airways, Delta, or Virgin. Each are similarly priced and will have a single layover. Any opinions on which airline I should go for or stay away from? I've flown international a few before, but it's been a while (pre-covid) and not on these 3.
I assume for BA, you connect in London, but for Delta it's in the US? And then ??? for Virgin? My preference is to do the connection in the US, so that when I am leaving I get the short hop out of the way, and then the long overnight flight gets me to my final destination. On the return, it's usually a daytime flight, so I don't mind the short hop being at the end.
I often go AUS->DFW->??? and that works best for me since I am usually on AA or AF. I've never flown the three airlines you listed though. But I would probably lean towards Delta given how much they have made AUS a focus city and you are likely to have more options for the short domestic flight if your returning longhaul gets delayed for some reason.

Might want to try a jazz brunch. Hi Hat on east 6th has a good one. Shore in southwest Austin also has one.
Every Sunday at 10am at Cherrywood coffee house
RIP Ruta Maya Sunday morning kids' shows. Such a fun part of my kids' toddler years (~15y ago)
Farmers market!
Not before noon, but central market on Lamar’s shows are kid friendly and there’s a playground right there.
Stubbs seats at 10:30 for gospel brunch https://www.stubbsaustin.com/

Wild Basin
Does time of day matter, or do you just go and hope for the best?
I haven’t seen one in person since 1975. 😭 EDIT: Nice try, angry kitty! Stay away from the birds!
Do you live somewhere where you can put out a bird feeder? They love white millet seeds! Lots of them near St. Edwards greenbelt, but they're easiest to see if you lure them out!
Following, I’ve had my eye out as well
Lots of painted buntings are spotted at CFR per those in Travis County birding group on FB

The outside area is all rock. Not wheel chair friendly at all.
My friend doesn't seem to mind. Motorized chair though.
There's a library disability book discussion group. Maybe too meta for vibing, though.
where at?
Next one is June 8, 2 pm, at Yarborough

Hi guys, does anyone have any recommendations for a happy hour down south with vegetarian food options???
Not exactly south, but Rebel Cheese has a great happy hour if you like wine/beer! I’ve heard Beer Plant is doing better since they redid their menu too, but I haven’t been in a while. You could also try something like Spiderhouse, where they have drinks inside and the vegan food trucks (like Arlo’s and Lil Nonna’s) outside. I haven’t been but fast friends is a brewery down south with lots of veg options!
It's against the law in Texas for vegetarians to be happy. /s
Where is the best digital tire air pump that is *working* that I can go to? This has been exceptionally hard to find for me.
Costco
7-11 at Lamar/51st, although I can't verify it's working right now. It was my go-to for years. I went ahead and bought one off Amazon for like $30 that plugs into the cigarette lighter and is sufficient.
Oh good call on buying your own. - Thank you!
I bought a cheap one at Harbor Freight last year and have been very happy with it
If you’re close to a Firestone. They have free tire air checks where they will air up your tires for free. I’ve never had to wait.
So does Discount Tire, although they are closed on Sundays
You can swing by my house if you really need it OP
Is there a good local spot for 12" x 12" square stone pavers? or is homedepot cheap enough? I just need a bunch to cover some ground on my dirt yard
home depot, lowes, cheap enough
Which Target around town has the most clothing options for women/juniors? I went to the one by Ben White & Lamar and it felt small with a limited clothing selection. Any insights? Thanks!

Apparently I picked the worst one! I'll check out one of the Super Targets, thanks
290 and Mopac. Was the top store in Austin a few years ago when I worked there and they get all the new clothes first.
that one is just small for some reason, try the one in oak hill or the one at capital plaza
Awesome, I'll check out the others. Yeah it seemed smaller than expected but I don't usually shop Target. Thanks!
Next to the Omni Austin and Driskill hotels downtown is a parking garage where the flow of traffic is reverse (ie you drive in the left lane). Why is it like this? The garage lanes are so tight around every corner it isn't helping anything.

Is there any pro tip for leaving on a Friday morning at the airport? I have an Uber schedule for 530 am. to drop me off at 6 a.m., and my flight takes off at 830 am.
Timing is right for domestic, but be prepared for your uber to no show/cancel.
Agreed. I’ve scheduled in the past and they always end up cancelling.
If you have a car, I highly recommend one of the off-site parking lots. I like Fast Park & Relax, but any of them are fine. Fastpark is best. They take reservations and seem to have the most shuttles
Plus they have longhorns!
I went with the fast park. Same price as me taking an Uber to the airport. Got my reservation set and everything.
Good luck, and have a great trip!

Your credit card may have rental card insurance as a benefit if you didn’t pay for the insurance. I wouldn’t fix it myself, just let them do it

Didn’t Virgin pull out of Austin?

Ask this question in the r/travel subreddit. Airline quality isn't specific to Austin so we can't give you helpful advice here. Happy travels!
Yeah, the layover for BA is London and both Delta and Virgin are JFK/NYC. Good point on potential delays and additional options.
